I love to support local businesses with s. But though the joint was a solid 3, it didn't wow me. It's not a mom and pop local joint. The sign says it's local, and it feels like it's a local chain? We walked in at 8:30 pm on a Tuesday evening while passing through town. It was empty and kinda looked like the guys working were slowly getting ready to close. The sign said it was open till 10. So unfortunately, all the food was food that had been sitting in the warmer since the afternoon. I asked what time was the last meat cooked, and which one was the freshest, and was told they were all cooked around 2. This is probably the number one reason I can't bump up the stars. I have a feeling the place would've definitely earned another star had the food been more fresh. The beef was not ground beed or steak, but pulled. So if you like pulled, go for it. Personally, not a fan. And the seasoning wasn't that great either. Thankfully I had ordered chicken. The young gents working were nice though not friendly. Typical highschoolish guys. Look to the right of the counter for suggestions on going gluten-free, low-calorie, etc. Close to the interstate and near a gas station if you are just passing through (take the Merle Hay Mall exit). The burritos at Bandit Burrito are very tasty and quite reasonably priced. I like the burritos here better than Chipotle and Pancheros. They have a variety of tortillas to choose from plus every type of tasty meat you would want and lots of other ingredients. The only thing I wish they would change is to train one guy, out of three, who prepares burritos how to properly wear a mask during COVID time. This place is amazing! I ordered a pork custom burrito on a jalapeño cheddar tortilla and a coco puffs Rice Krispie bar. The pork was generous and flavorful. They have some interesting rice options - white, Spanish or wild rice. I tried the Spanish rice, black beans, the hot salsa, cheese, black olives and veggies. It was monstrous and full of taste. I drive past this place every day on the way home from work and decided to stop in and give it a whirl, as I felt they may have some healthier options than my usual spots. I ordered a burrito bowl with wild rice, grilled chicken, pinto beans, cheese, and a couple of different types of salsa. The different sour creams were very tempting, but they aren't part of my current meal plan. The service was pleasant and efficient and the food was very good. It was nice to taste some chicken that tasted like chicken. The chicken had a pleasing smoky taste to it, along with some other seasonings. The hot salsa was definitely that. I wanted to start off talking about how the place looks and feels. I love how the cooking area is decorated with the tiles, has pots hanging nicely and it is clean! The dining area also has a good look to it. They took time to even add details above you. They were cleaning a lot of the time we were eating which is always nice to see. Those working were very friendly and asked if we had ever been there before. Since we had not, they were very willing to guide us along in the process. On to the food. It is good! I loved that there were so many unique options. From the multiple choices of tortillas, salsas, sour creams and 'hot' stuff, your options are endless. If you aren't quite sure about something, ask them if you can have a taste test first. I went for a slim with pork and had plenty of food. My fiancé had the burrito with beef and also had plenty. We got a side of chips and guac as well. The guac was good but I like it with more spice. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because although the way the burrito is packaged is convienant to prevent a mess, it also causes the foil to stick to the tortilla some. Even through the chaos of a large group orders that included vegetarian wishes and how to feed a baby, they accommodated us with smiles. The counter already displaying food allowed us to each walk through the line to custom make our burritos and bowls. Only had breakfast burritos at the time, mine was simply eggs and veggies with the sauce (I liked it) but it did the breakfast body good. Also really appreciated that each one of that ordered the burrito without meat they made sure to warn us that the sauce was made from pork broth. So many places would just choose to ignore that, glad they were honest about tellin' ya. Bandit Burrito falls in line with the other assembly line style burrito places like Panchero's, Chipolte, and Qdoba. The difference is Bandit Burrito is significantly more awesome. I would highly recommend the beef and pork. Both fantastic. The beef has great flavor, and the pork will absorb the salsa heat better, so if you like it spicy, go pork. All of their toppings are really fresh - most times you'll see them working on making more while you're there. The guacamole is always about an hour old or less. It is a comfortable place with always friendly service, even when they're busy. And now in the good farmer's market time, they're using fresh, local fruits and vegetables. They've had different seasonal vegetables available for their burritos like cauliflower, squash, and they did a cantaloupe salsa that was apparently very tasty. My only suggestion for Bandit Burrito to improve on is to advertise their special seasonal options better. So many sound great but I forget to ask up front. read more

It's a place where you at the counter and watch them make your food. They have great protein selections, including vegetarian and vegan options. On this visit, I chose the chicken burrito on a red pepper tortilla and stuffed it full of toppings like a lime sour cream, tomatillo salsa, black beans and rice. The guys working were laughing and having a good time, and it made the environment a lot of fun to be in. They have great guacamole and fresh chips. Far and away the best burrito place in the Des Moines area. When presented the choice between Bandit or Chipotle or Qdoba, I will choose Bandit every time. I have been going here for years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. The most distinctive part of Bandit's menu is their vegetarian chorizo. I am a meat eater, but I never order chicken or steak for my burrito. It will always be the chorizo. It has a flavor unlike anything you can get at any other burrito place. So sweet and subtly spicy. It does take a little bit longer for them to cook, so you have to ask for it right when you walk in, but it is worth the extra minute of waiting. If I have to think of any suggestions, it would be that they have started putting slightly less of everything on the burritos. I'm sure this is done with an eye toward maximizing profit, so I can't blame them too much, but let's just try putting more than like, one scoop of beans in there. Beans aren't going to financially break your back! But yeah, Bandit Burrito is excellent, and if there was a location right by my house, I would probably eat there three times a week. read more

The owner is very particular as his one worker was making my burrito that had too much in it for him to close properly, The owner made him put it in a different tortilla that wasn't messed up. Bandit is my favorite burrito joint in the area, and it is local so that is always a plus. I love all of the options. They always have fajita-style veggies, but everyday they have another different veggie to choose from (carrots, cauliflower, mushrooms, etc). Some of the add-ons are extra, but they usually do a good job of telling you beforehand. I do think that charging extra for some sour cream is kind of dumb. I get that queso and guacamole should be extra, but a scoop of sour cream? Overall, very good and staff is very helpful/friendly. Get a giant rice krispy treat to share also. Support Local!! read more
