Great food, drink and service while traveling on the road for Tacquila Tuesday. Definitely recommend the Street Tacos with Lengua and Pastor. The Quesabirria was very tender with a flavorful consume as well. The house margarita on the rocks was not too sweet and tasted refreshing. The restaurant itself is small with an outdoor patio and was just right for this traveler. We have Mexican food weekly on Tuesday no maytter where the road takes us. read more

Best tacos in West Des Moines- hands down!!! If you haven't been, I urge you to add this to your list of places to check out: you won't be disappointed!! I have lived in West Des Moines just shy of 3 years and have been on the hunt for something close to my neighborhood ever since my arrival. I'm originally from Sioux City where the taco/Mexican fare is top-notch. I have found a few really good places in the DSM metro, but hoped to find something that wasn't a 45+ min drive round trip. Nothing hit the nail on the head, especially in this area of the metro, until Los Alegres opened! Everything I have tried has been fantastic. The wait time is minimal and the service is excellent! Landed here with 7 family members when our reservation got screwed up at a nearby Brew pub. Our son and family live in Clive and suggested Los Alegres. We consider it to have been a wonderful accident that our first option went bust! We were able to be seated right away; nice atmosphere, wonderfully accommodating servers and hosts, yummy food and beverages! The chips and salsa were the perfect accompaniment to my generous margarita! WE WILL BE BACK! read more

Really wanted to like place as it's got a nice patio albeit faces a busy road and broken Dunkin' Donuts sign. Seated on patio took waitress ten minutes before taking drink order although entire restaurant was empty. Stopped in for chips and queso and a few drinks. Queso was Nothing to write home about. Los Alegres Sabor Mexicano took over the location where the previous El Guapo used to be. This new restaurant is renovated on the inside so that there are now booth seating (which we prefer). We arrived at around 8pm and there was no wait. The server was very attentive and friendly. We were immediately served complimentary chips and salsa. The menu is HUGE and it was hard to decide what to order. I ordered the seafood dish of Camarones A La Cream (shrimp in cream sauce, onions, mushrooms) and the boyfriend ordered two beef enchiladas with rice and beans. My shrimp dish was creamy and had lots of flavor and the boyfriend said his beef enchiladas were great because the ground beef was really infused with flavor. The prices are not cheap (as sometimes Mexican restaurants can be) but we thought it was reasonably priced compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to that serve this high quality of food in a nice comfortable dine-in setting. They offer lunch specials here for $10.50 which is definitely more on the affordable side. They also have outdoor seating. We'd definitely return for another meal! read more

We've eaten at Los Alegres several times. The service is attentive, and the food is very good. On our last visit, I tried the flautas that are served with potato and shredded chicken. They were great! The cook left them in the deep fryer just the right time; the tortilla wraps were not greasy, and the fillings excellent. Our only suggestion is a repeat of our experiences from other restaurants; if you want a real margarita, order one made by hand, not from the spindle mixer. Went here with the boys. Legendary street tacos. Highly recommend the al pastor meat. Michael loves his limes, and Luke devoured his chimmichanga. Our homie Alfredo hooked us up with some banger chips and salsa, and the food couldn't have come quicker. Jake couldn't have been happier with his burrito verde. As with any Mexican restaurant, there is a very large menu here. But the difference with Los Alegres is that they have many different menu items that ai haven't seen anywhere else. Lots of unique ingredient combinations. We have eaten here both in the restaurant and as carry out. Everything has been delicious. read more
