Fantastic food and fantastic service. I've been here a decent amount and I've never had a bad experience.

Los Alegres Sabor Mexicano took over the location where the previous El Guapo used to be. This new restaurant is renovated on the inside so that there are now booth seating (which we prefer). We arrived at around 8pm and there was no wait. The server was very attentive and friendly. We were immediately served complimentary chips and salsa. The menu is HUGE and it was hard to decide what to order. I ordered the seafood dish of Camarones A La Cream (shrimp in cream sauce, onions, mushrooms) and the boyfriend ordered two beef enchiladas with rice and beans. My shrimp dish was creamy and had lots of flavor and the boyfriend said his beef enchiladas were great because the ground beef was really infused with flavor. The prices are not cheap (as sometimes Mexican restaurants can be) but we thought it was reasonably priced compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to that serve this high quality of food in a nice comfortable dine-in setting. They offer lunch specials here for $10.50 which is definitely more on the affordable side. They also have outdoor seating. We'd definitely return for another meal!

The food has been great on each of our visits and tonight we had the extra treat - enjoying a shared Smores dessert (see picture)! Tonight, we decided to take advantage of the Happy Hour specials and enjoy a few shared appetizers at the table, so started with 6 Shrimp Cocktail (see picture) and Cheese Curds (see picture). Both of them were very good, so we decided to also try their Raw Oysters (see picture) - which were also very good. For our dinner, my wife ordered the Lobster Roll (see picture) and while we weren't quite sure what form it would take, we were both pleased what was brought to the table, as it tasted great! I decided to go with the Walleye Wednesday special (see picture) and found it to not only taste great - but was a very generous portion of walleye!

We didn't have reservations anywhere and this was the closest restaurant that allowed us to walk in and be seated. For the most part, the food was a 3 1/2 out of four. But my dish, which was Seabass, was a max of 1 1/2 points. Apparently I should've expected this for a restaurant that is better known for their steaks, but I'm not a red meat guy so I went with the bass. When the food came to the table, the server dropped it off very quickly and I was talking, so I really didn't have a chance to look at the plate until several minutes later. My sea bass was literally swimming in some kind of sauce that resembled an Italian salad dressing. Of course flooded the bottom of the plate and everything on the plate tasted like the sauce. I was barely able to eat any of the fish and one or two bites of everything else. On the plus side, everybody else at the table seemed to enjoy their dinner, but also rated their experience as a 3+ because it felt like a chain restaurant with no personality of its own The servers were very pleasant. The atmosphere and ambience were very clean and bright.

We were there on a Sunday so I suspect a lot of other people were taking advantage of the Sunday dinner for two like we were. We were greeted when we came in the door and the service from the time we entered until the time we left was outstanding. As we are celebrating our anniversary, our table was decorated for that which was a nice touch. We looked over the very extensive menus and did settle back in on the $99 dinner for two. In theory it is smaller portions than some of their other dishes, but there was more than enough food there for the two of us. We got the filet mignon, which was wonderfully prepared and an outstanding cut of meat. We got the 50-50 potatoes, and asked later what the 50-50 meant and discovered it's 50% potato and 50% butter and cream. They are delicious but decadent! We also got the asparagus which was very good. It had a wonderful sauce, and was tender and flavorful. We also each got the wedge salad which was almost a meal in itself. And we each got the carrot cake for dessert. We had to bring a lot of the carrot cake home because we were quite topped off at that point. The carrot cake is a slightly different twist than some, but very good nonetheless. The wine list is very good and prices are what you would expect at an establishment of this type. All in all, I would definitely go back and try some other things. If you're into oysters, they have quite a selection of those, but that's not really my jam.

The food was the real standout. The fish was cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside, tender inside--and the sauces were rich without being heavy. Well-balanced, strong without being overwhelming, and honestly one of the better old fashioneds I've had in a while. It's the kind of drink you slow down for. Service was attentive without hovering, and the atmosphere hit that sweet spot between upscale and comfortable. Like probably most Americans, I haven't tried a lot of South American cuisine so I didn't know what to expect. I guess I was expecting something like Mexican food. Well, it's definitely a lot different than Mexican food. Peruvian food isn't very spicy and the seasonings are different, yet still tasty. There a big Chinese influence on Peruvian food, too. I got the Lomo Saltado, a popular Peruvian dish with stir-fried beef, onions and tomatoes served with rice and French fries. My husband got the Chaufa al Wok, an oriental Peruvian fried rice with chicken. The fries kind of threw me at first. I wasn't expecting that. The dish was very good and had a nice flavor. My husband loved his dish and thought it was delicious. With both of our dishes it was interesting to see how much of a Chinese influence there is. What my husband absolutely loved the most is their homemade horchata. It tasted different than Mexican horchata so he asked what was in it. Our server said it was made was cacao beans instead of just rice and cinnamon. It had a pale brown color to it, too. I also liked the seasoned corn nuts that came with two different sauces--a sweet one and savory one. We both thought the prices were a little high but not so much that we wouldn't come back. The service was very good. Our server was friendly and helped us decide what to order. She was very knowledgeable about the menu items. At the end of our meal both she and the owner (I think) asked us how we liked everything and if there was anything they could have done to make things more enjoyable. I mentioned that my food came out much earlier than my husband's so I was almost done by the time his came out. The owner apologized for the wait and we really appreciated that. They also serve empanadas, pupusas and tamales. We're going to try these the next time we come back. Someone at the table next to us ordered the pupusas and they looked yummy. We were pleasantly pleased with how tasty the food was despite being a lot different than what we were expecting.
