Best tacos in West Des Moines- hands down!!! If you haven't been, I urge you to add this to your list of places to check out: you won't be disappointed!! I have lived in West Des Moines just shy of 3 years and have been on the hunt for something close to my neighborhood ever since my arrival. I'm originally from Sioux City where the taco/Mexican fare is top-notch. I have found a few really good places in the DSM metro, but hoped to find something that wasn't a 45+ min drive round trip. Nothing hit the nail on the head, especially in this area of the metro, until Los Alegres opened! Everything I have tried has been fantastic. The wait time is minimal and the service is excellent! RUN, don't walk- to Los Alegres!! Definitely in my personal top 5 tacos in the Greater Des Moines area.

Fantastic food and fantastic service. I've been here a decent amount and I've never had a bad experience.

Los Alegres Sabor Mexicano took over the location where the previous El Guapo used to be. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This new restaurant is renovated on the inside so that there are now booth seating (which we prefer).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We arrived at around 8pm and there was no wait. The server was very attentive and friendly. We were immediately served complimentary chips and salsa. The menu is HUGE and it was hard to decide what to order. I ordered the seafood dish of Camarones A La Cream (shrimp in cream sauce, onions, mushrooms) and the boyfriend ordered two beef enchiladas with rice and beans. My shrimp dish was creamy and had lots of flavor and the boyfriend said his beef enchiladas were great because the ground beef was really infused with flavor. The prices are not cheap (as sometimes Mexican restaurants can be) but we thought it was reasonably priced compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to that serve this high quality of food in a nice comfortable dine-in setting. They offer lunch specials here for $10.50 which is definitely more on the affordable side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We'd definitely return for another meal!

As has been the case on each of our visits, the food and atmosphere were off the charts. The service wasn't quite as prompt this morning as what I've become accustomed to, but the experience was still great. Best of all...I saw that they now have a daily Happy ("Flocktail") Hour everyday before they close - and it is a 50% Off special - so now I can add them to HappyHourDesMoines.com also!! Today, my wife ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and a Bloody Mary (see pictures) - and with all of the new items on the menu, our friend ordered the Smoked Corn Beef Hash (see picture) and I went with the Healthy Hatch Tacos (see picture). I swapped one of my tacos with our friend for 1/2 of his hash, sampled my wife's Chicken Fried Steak - and can assure you that you will NOT go wrong ordering any of them, as all were absolutely delicious!

Veggie Thumper fits that mold splendidly! - It's not within walking distance to my house - I'm not veg/vegan (though, man, they have converted me) - It's...a literal bus. First things first, let's talk food. After telling my mom I was heading her she asked me to grab her something to support the business. I got the buffalo mac and she get the red bean burger. The mac was amazing! It had a wonderful blend of texture and flavor. A kick (which I love) but it's wasn't overbearing. I've never even considered spinach in mac and cheese but loved it! I had one bite of my mom's burger and now am know exactly what I'm getting next time. It was...so good. It's been over 48hrs and I'm still thinking about it. Second, the service. They were so incredibly kind! The were happy, fun to have a little light chat with (even though I had never seen them before in my life). They were, finally, efficient! They were quite quick to get my order out even though I was not the only one out there to support them that day. They had a good amount of customers. I...can not WAIT to go back here! I highly recommend you join me and going there as well! Their food, although veg/vegan, can satisfy any palate. I promise you. ***SIDE NOTE: Make sure to follow their blog and where the bus will be at: https://www.veggiethumper.com/the-bus*** Thanks for existing!

Not a dealbreaker, but for that price I was hoping for more than five lonely olive slices and a baby spoonful of feta. Still, everything else totally made up for it -- the food came out fast, fresh, and full of flavor. I'll definitely be back!

Chowrastha looked like it would work. It was a Friday evening and when we entered, about half the tables were full. We were guided to a table and given menus and water (glasses and a pitcher) arrived shortly after. My son definitely wanted the chicken momos. We asked for them as mild as they could make them. My husband chose the chicken vindaloo (medium) and I asked for the Korma Masala with chicken. I asked for it mild, especially so our son would be able to have some of mine, but was told it could only come medium or spicy. So I chose medium. We also placed an order of butter naan. My husband and son ordered fountain drinks. The waiter pointed out the fountain machine and told them to help themselves to start and for refills. My son and husband's food came out along with the naan. There was no mention about mine. We started to wonder if mine had been forgotten but then it came. Our son dove into his momos and almost immediately said they were too spicy. The other Indian restaurants we've been to put the sauces on the side. These had the sauce on them. He powered through and ate four. We were proud of him for doing so. My husband and I ate the rest. I enjoyed the flavor but agreed it would be spicy for a kid. The dumpling wrap seemed to be dry in places. Otherwise, I liked them. My husband enjoyed his chicken vindaloo for the most part. He did mention he's had chicken vindaloo at other Indian restaurants and said he didn't recall it being so tangy. My Korma Masala was fine. It was definitely spicier than I'd desired and there was no way my 8 year old would have enjoyed trying it. My nose would not stop running from the spice level. The butter naan was tasty. Service was non-existent once our food arrived. While other tables did get filled and orders taken, we felt completely ignored. We didn't know if the check came to us or if we needed to pay at the counter. No idea where to get to-go containers. We saw people from a large party coming up and ordering at the counter. Since this was our first time here, we had no clue if this was due to being understaffed or just the norm. Definitely not a good service experience. Our son was disappointed and asked to return to our "usual" Indian restaurant in the metro. I can't disagree.

Vegan food really isn't my thing, 95% of the time I'm carnivore, but here we go... Lol I've eaten a little bit of vegan food over my lifetime. Mostly Indian, but a bit more that is out of the box. Gyro style sandwiches done with plant based proteins, etc... Vibrations Vegan Wellness Cafe set up in our break room today and I had the chance to try their food. I was going to take the safe way out and order the burger and one of my co-workers offered me a bit of their "fish". Heart of palm in a corn meal breading with a homemade tartar sauce and Frank's hot sauce. I had a short conversation with Mo (the owner). Very personable. Today it was just a one person operation and I didn't want to take up too much of their time. I ended ordering the "fish." it came with a side of greens and mac n cheese. If I had to compare it to something it would be similar to a mild white fish where it takes on more the flavor of the seasoning and the sauces used with it. The seasoning was on point and I really enjoyed this! It had a similar shape and look to fish so it's not much of a stretch. The heart of palm's texture is more stringy than flakey, but not that different. The greens were very good. I'm not sure what they are seasoned with, but they had a bit of a kick... With all transparency it was the mac n cheese I was dreading... Every vegan cheese I've ever tried didn't melt right and it was just off. This was not. I'd put this up against the mac n cheese at a lot of BBQ joints and I don't think you could tell the difference. Once again...very good. I don't think I'll ever be vegan by choice, but I'll tell you what... If something in my life/health ever makes that choice for me... If I could have vegan food that tasted this this it wouldn't be much of an issue. The fish was an off menu item that I see they serve fairly often from their Facebook page. I'm glad they brought it with them today! Hopefully Mo is able to come back, I can place an order with them, or I can find them serving at other locations, and I can try a few more of their menu items. I'm not sure if they have a true physical brick and mortar. It looks like they might operate out of a truck. Check out their Facebook page for better details than I can probably provide. If you are interested in a vegan caterer definitely make sure you reach out to Vibrations Vegan Wellness Cafe! https://vibrations-vwc.my.canva.site/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100095333986592&mibextid=LQQJ4d

We were greeted and asked if we were dining in (it appears they do a brisk takeout business) and were told to sit where we wanted. It was surprisingly crowded for a Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. The menu is extensive and hubby and I both like Mediterranean food. I chose the Falafel plate, served with five falafel balls, hummus, a pita, and Greek salad. The portion was generous (ended up taking two falafel home). Served with tahini and their house green sauce (olive oil, cilantro, and jalapeño) It wasn't spicy but it was so delicious - I could get addicted to this thinking of all the other ways so could enjoy it!! The Greek salad was served with house dressing - garlic and yogurt, also very good. The falafel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and flavorful. The hummus was not at all grainy - smooth but just a tad bland. Hubby had the lamb skewers and liked them very much. Served with rice, salad, and hummus. He also took one of the skewers home. We both had the mango Fresca juice. A bit too sweet for me but I generally drink unsweetened beverages. Hubby liked it a lot. Service was friendly and we were checked on twice to ask how we liked our food. Generous portions, friendly service, good food, but not inexpensive (with tip, $55 for two) but what is inexpensive these days??
