The view from eastbound Ingersoll Avenue. A great night for dining on the patio...

In a world where casual/fast food /build-your-meal eateries are vying for your attention, the fresher the better. And few do fresh-Mex better than Qdoba. There are plenty of non-burrito (and burrito) options to order as-is from the menu, or customize to taste, fresh house made tortillas and chips, freshly prepared pico, and more. If you're uncertain about an ingredient, a for a sample to taste - Qdoba wants you to enjoy your meal. I typically order their tortilla soup (with or without meat) with a little mixing and matching of hot sauce, but this trip I had the opportunity to enjoy their Mango Chicken Salad. Delicious, especially the mango and chutney topping, which was prepared fresh several times that day. Mexican CocaCola, Fanta, Jarrito in bottles, or a well provisioned mix-your-own Coke product fountain drink dispenser provide ample beverage options. This location has always provided good service, and a clean dining area, which is saying something for this type of eatery. This location also has some much appreciated outdoor seating. Qdoba has a solid rewards program, so if you are (or become) a fan, be certain to get on board.

Bowl from Qdoba. With cilantro rice, steak, fajita peppers, quest, and corn salsa. I spent $10.64 for a bowl that is filled halfway.. Never coming here ever again. My friends bowl wasn't very filled also.

For being a chain restaurant the serve rather fresh food. We stopped in for lunch and was served quickly. Staff was friendly and the place was super clean. I normally place my orders online for pick up so I never see the makings in action. I elected the burrito bowl. You start by selecting what type of rice you want (recommend the cilantro white rice), then onto the beans (pinto, black or my favorite both), next up meat - went with the brisket, Queso selection (you can even get extra without an additional cost), you can then add peppers, onions, cheese and sour cream.

The Ultimate Stop for Bikes, Beer & Bites…read more After a day of biking, we made it back to El Bait Shop with some friends. This place is a solid choice, whether you're in the mood for the world's biggest selection of tap beers or some fantastic gastropub and comfort food from the lounge next door. We love it here because we can park our bikes in the provided area off the patio and still keep an eye on them. The outdoor service area is semi-shaded and the service is just as good as you'd get inside. As a beer lover, I can tell you the selection is ridiculous and expansive. If you want it, they probably have it, and from four or five different breweries at that! The menu is also loaded, with choices from both El Bait Shop and the High Life Lounge. Today, our food order was as impressive as the beer list. While I can't recall all the beers we had, the food included a Prime Rib Sandwich with tots ($14.99), the Pizza Burger also with tots ($11.99), the Philly Style Pot Roast Sandwich with a side of potato salad, and a massive bowl of Macaroni and Cheese ($11.99). We were starving after our ride, but that didn't change the fact that the food was all delicious, well-prepared, and served by our very attentive waiter, Kyle???, May. No one had any complaints, and the beer was cold and on time! Overall, we love the eclectic vibe of this place. Its downtown location gives you some great views, and more importantly, you're within walking distance of almost everything downtown Des Moines has to offer. This is a go-to spot for me, and I love taking first-time visitors here because it's so unique and the quality of both the service and the food is always on point. Oh, and did I mention the beer selection is completely insane? If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out, and you don't even know it. PRO TIP: Come here, and before you leave, slip over to the High Life Lounge for a throwback moment. Next time, start there and slip over here for a beer!

Great Korean Fried chicken!…read more You'll spend a decent bit, but you will end up with lots of food and sides! Great flavor on the wings and the sides were well prepared as well. Service took just a few minutes to have our food delivered on a decently busy Friday night, but I think that was more so due to having to make our food to be fresh!

It had food left over on it and was greasy but they were so busy they couldn't get to cleaning it. We ordered the 5 piece bone-in and boneless chicken plates with the double dunk sauce. The bone-in chicken wings were so small it made me laugh. Needless to say, the chicken did not fill me up at all. Instead, the sides that the meal came with (white rice, potato salad, pickled radish, macaroni and cheese) were surprisingly large and filled my stomach. For $14, I didn't think I would be paying for an entree of sides and a side of chicken. The mini fried chicken was also soggy! I noticed those around us had just their fried chicken with no sauce so they probably figured out it arrives soggy. And it was lukewarm in temperature and not hot out of the fryer. Service was friendly though when they were taking our order. The restaurant is pretty much self serve where you get your own water, and utensils and return your plates to the designated area. The two stars are for the sides and service--not the chicken. If you want good fried chicken that is a reasonable to large size and where the fried batter still remains crispy after having sauce poured over it, I recommend Chikin Lickin.
