My last review was two years ago. The parking is good and accessible. Its a family owned place and the staff are friendly and always helpful. They still make their own salsas of differing heat and flavors. Its a all day taco spot .Their Birra is homemade and excellent as well as all their taco fillings being homemadeand fresh. What a hidden gem! Tucked away in a strip mall in a quiet Beaverdale neighborhood, it's easy to overlook. I stopped for a quick lunch on a Tuesday. Taco Tuesday specials so I was able to get 2 fully loaded delicious tacos for $7. The meal included a few bites of potatoes and onions (just enough) and a small basket of chips. My food order was traditional and delicious! I really enjoyed my meal as I was not feeling well, and this tasty meal at Faustino's taqueria hit the spot. I ordered a Chile relleno plate and the chile came with ranchero sauce (sautéed onions and tomatoes), along with rice and beans which I love! The cheese inside the Chile was nice and melted and the Chile was a nice size. I will definitely come back to this authentic Mexican restaurant. The prices are really good and you get great value for your money. I can't wait to go back and try something different. read more

There are a few really good food trucks that have super street tacos( small soft shell) in Des Moines Area-- then there is one place- in my opinion -- that has some of the best street tacos with a variety of options to take their options over the top as a sit down restaurant with no frills. The friendly receptionist explained how to order, and pointed to the pictures to show what each option would look like. One of the great benefits is the cheap cost $3-$4 dollars for each main order $. The only draw back nothing comes as a complete dinner even the authentic Mexican Soda is in addition. The variety of salsas are capped, and are in a vat to the side of the register allowing you to choose different tasty flavors. The inside is like a small outdoor sit down nondescript venue full of minimalist colors on the wall, and inexpensive furnishings that give you a downtown San Antonio relaxed vibe. This is a great little place. Very unsuspecting location in a small strip mall near Drake University. The decor is simple - sayings about tacos! About 9 tables for the seating area and a few extra chairs for take out. I ordered a lot of food because it was my first time. Chicken tinga taco was LEGIT! I loved it! The steamed/boiled potatoes on the side were SO perfect as well! The rice was good, but definitely not the star in my opinion. I also ordered the quesabirria quesadilla. It was massive - filled with refried beans, cheese and so much meat. I'd never had a quesadilla with beans, love the idea! I also got a churro because, why not. Delicious! The service was fast, friendly and efficient. I received help from 2 different gals and they were both so pleasant. I also think the owner/manager walked in as he was asking how the food was and spoke to all the patrons. Go here and make your stomach happy! read more

Been meaning to get over here for a while.... Finally made it to Faustino's with my son tonight (07/16/2024)! In hindsight we probably should have waited a couple of days with all the debris that needs to be cleared from yesterday's tornado/storm. The drive there went good. The drive home with an increased volume of traffic and the work vehicles...not as much. That took a bit longer. I've driven by Faustino's before and it's easy to find. The strip it's in has a reasonably large parking lot so parking isn't an issue. We were greeted right away when we walked in. It's order and pay at the counter. The menu board is over the counter and it's easy to read. We ordered 4x quesabirria tacos, 2x vampiro tacos (asada), 1x bottle of Mexican Coke, and 1x Fanta. Our total was $20 and change before tip. I want to say our tacos were $1 off each for Taco Tuesday... The decor is minimal but the tables and chairs are all brightly colored. Extra napkins were on every table...which I really appreciate! Lol Free chips were brought shortly after we took a seat. Their sauce/salsa bar is adjacent to a wall near the counter. Cups of avocado sauce along with multiple red and green sauces. Mild to hot. The wait was short. The vampiro tacos hit the table first. So good! I was there for the quesabirria tacos, which I've heard people rave about, but when I saw these on the menu I really wanted to try them. My son isn't a fan of guacamole but he liked these too. They're piled high! Then came the quesabirria tacos and consome. They were everything I expected! Right at the top of my list! My son said they reminded him of the ones he gets with his gf's family at El Toreado. I haven't been so I'll have to take his word on that one. We had a really great experience. Both service and food! The young lady who took out order was friendly and personable. There was a woman who was a little older. She was working on the books when we walked in but checked on us later on too. The gentlemen working in the kitchen.... I made sure to say thank you when we left. That was echoed with smiles and waves and a thank you in return from them too. Keep in mind the surrounding community was really impacted by the recent storms. But even if you wait a day or so for clean up be a little further along.... I'd highly recommend checking out this spot! My heart goes out to everyone impacted. I drove home on the edge of it late yesterday afternoon/early evening but fortunately my complex in Clive was out of the path by a few blocks. read more

This restaurant has been on my list for awhile and let me tell you, it is the best fast casual Mexican food in the state of Iowa! We walked in for late dinner around 7pm and greeted right away. You order at the counter so we took a look at the menu and gameplanned how we want to tackle our food order. We opted to split the birria quesadilla and order our own tacos. Some things you just can't share :P I ordered the carne asada vampiro style and the Al pastor vampiro style taco. The carne asada was incredibly tender and juicy. Delicious! The Al Pastor has pineapple so it was smokey sweet and VERY good with the spicy salsa I added to it. Both tacos were generously filled and had a mountain of cojita cheese on top. The birria quesadilla was divine. I love that it also had refried beans in it too! The birria was tender, flavorful, and not greasy! So many places you get the birria and it's just soaking in grease. The consomme served with it was flavorful and allowed you to control how greasy you want it! Chips and salsa were served complimentary for dining in and their salsa bar has about 6 different salsas AND they're pre-cupped with lids which is so convenient. We Go here fairly often for lunch, food is consistently good. The Al Pastor burrito is a favorite, and my coworkers swear by the tortas. I always see the same people working and they're all pleasant and happy to adjust my order if I need it. I tried their new breakfast burrito and overall it was pretty but the potatoes in particular hit great. Hot sauces are good but they're obviously house made so the heat varies from time to time. read more

Faustino's is definitely our new go-to for Quesabirria Tacos. (Not pictured because my husband took it first lol) We also tried their: Vampiro Tacos with Carne Asada and one with Al Pastor - worth it, get it, deliciousness in every bite. It is like a tostada with refried beans, guacamole, and the meat of your choice on it Tacos- Tried one Shrimp, one Al pastor, one Carne Asada, and two birria. Hubby said Birria was delicious but the Quesabirria is better than the regular Birria. All of the other tacos were just as great in flavors. The shrimp with a mango salsa on top, fresh and light. The Al Pastor with the pineapple, soooo good! The Carne Asada was perfectly seasoned. Taquitos - family tried chicken and potato. Both good but preferred the chicken They also have the BEST Mango Salsa! I'm trying to convince them to bottle it! They have a great Salsa Bar as well. Avocado Salsa is my second fave Queso and Chips - Kids loooooved the homemade chips and queso. They asked to get more than one bag every time we go now. The staff that helped us was so friendly and took the time to have a little conversation - not in an annoying way, but in a helpful way. My bowl was fantastic. My husband and I stopped in for dinner tonight and we're so glad we did. I had been hearing good things about this place and it's not too far from where we live so we had to check it out. I ordered asada and carnitas tacos and my husband got the asada burrito. We both really loved what we ordered. My tacos had so much flavor and tasted authentic. They were small but very filling. Both meats were very good but I think the asada was my favorite. I really appreciated that they used two tortillas on my tacos. Most places only use one and that's too flimsy to support the whole taco. They had a little salsa bar with seven different salsas! I'm a sauce girl so I was in salsa heaven. I tried four of the salsas and they were all delicious. My husband's favorite salsa was the mango one. He said his burrito had a smoky flavor that he really enjoyed. They also gave us a free dish of warm tortilla chips. They tasted homemade. I really liked them a lot. The staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The place was decorated in bright and cheerful colors and it was very clean. It's small but cozy. They don't have ice water; only bottled water, but it was reasonably priced. Before sitting pick up a couple of salsas. I liked the mango. I ordered the burrito which was pretty good. My companion ordered a plate of chips with an assortment of meats topped with la crema, which she rated a "3". She thought the beef and chorizo was a little on the bland side. Very excited this has opened in Waveland Park! If you're used to going all the way to the east/southside for authentic Mexican tacos, look no farther. This place serves legit authentic tacos: carne asada, cabeza, birria and all the varying salsas that accompany good tacos. I ordered the carne asada torta with everything and it was solid dinner. They also have agua frescas. My favorites being pina colada and horchata. It's the perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat. Been here 2x now and both times were excellent. Small establishment but neat and clean. Staff was very friendly and genuine. Ordered birria tacos both times and the meat was fresh, piping hot, and juicy. Dip was excellent as well. Handmade tortilla chips were a nice touch as the food makes you crave more.
