We've been looking for a New Mexican place. I feel many just opened in our area so have Casa Agave a try. This place is usually busy, but quick and attentive. There's a bar you can sit it or tables. Mexican music is on the radio and TVs. They bring chips and salsa and we ordered the queso dip. Always delicious and huge. My son got the seafood and rice. It's a lot but he can eat it. I think I'll get the pineapple fajitas every time. Made two more meals for me as leftovers. So good and delicious. I'll be back and you should too!!! read more

Since this place is just blocks from my house, I worked up the courage to try again. Thankful I did. Staff is really friendly and entertaining. Food was way better than average Midwest Mexican and very clean tasting, nothing soaking in grease. Margaritas were good, beer was cold. I'd recommend. read more

Service was excellent, went on a Saturday for lunch. Salsa is delicious with a hint of some actual spice as opposed to tomatoes in a bowl. I've seen some complaints about the chips on Yelp- I can say our chips were perfect and crispy. Could have used a little more salt but that's why you have salt on your table. Got the taco platter- see photo for taco types. Tacos were excellent and portion size was impressive for the price. Cheese dip was good. Could have used more heat, but that is a personal preference. I think most will find it perfect. I think there was some sort of a party going on while we were there but we didn't notice the extra noise. House margaritas were okay, light on the tequila, but good for the price. Two meals, cheese dip and a pitcher of margs was around $60. Will defiantly be back. read more

Pretty decent Mexican food in Altoona. The space is good after a nice remodel but it is very loud in there. There was a birthday party and a TV playing loud music while we dined. The service is good and we had a quick turn around from ordering, but we went at an off hour. I had the steak, chicken, shrimp quesadilla with rice. **Casa Agave - Good food, mixed results** The dining areas offer vast open rooms with lots of light and plenty of space for big parties. Our experience at Casa Agave was a bit of a mixed bag. The service was excellent, and our host was friendly and attentive. The Texas fajitas were cooked perfectly and the shrimp was delicious. The birria tacos were a delicious surprise. The pitcher of margaritas was refreshing, though very light on the alcohol. They were really pushing their $16 margaritas... Unfortunately, the chips were a disappointment - some were fresh and crispy, while others were stale. The salsa was also very mild, lacking in flavor. Overall, the food was good, but not exceptional. Would return for the fajitas and tacos, but would probably notify the staff about the stale chips next time. read more

The best Mexican place in Altoona - new location and the staff is incredibly friendly and sweet. Our service is amazing, and we judge highly the salsa and chips. It is incredibly and their queso speaks for itself. The food is delicious and we've been back many times, it's lovely the amount of space they have for seating and that it is spread out, allowing me to be able to hear my date and the large windows make for great people watching. This place has been open more than a month. The food is good, but the service is still problematic. My wife arrived before I did today. She asked for 2 waters. She was brought 1 glass of water and 2 straws. She asked someone else for another water. Only after I showed up and she asked again did they bring out another water. Then we ordered. She ordered a cheese enchilada and a side of rice. I ordered my "usual," which is a vegetable fajita with chicken added (I like the vegetables). Someone had to come out and confirm or clarify my order. I've probably ordered this dish at this restaurant 3 of the last 4 Friday nights. I repeated exactly the same order I gave the waiter and that seemed to be good enough. Then the food came out, and we had absolutely no complaints about the taste, texture, or presentation. However, once we were done we were in for a wait. After waiting more than 15 minutes after the dishes were cleared, we still had no bill and the waiter had not come back to the table. While we were waiting, I kept watching the other waiters going back and forth to the tables they were working. I also noticed some distinctive glasses on the bar from a couple that paid and left at least half an hour earlier. I couldn't help noticing that another couple at the table next to us was also having an issue. One of their entrees was brought to the table, but the other was not. Enough time passed that the person who didn't receive his food decided to cancel his order. At that point, we decided to go to the cash register to pay. The person working the cash register could not find our bill in the system until our waiter eventually came over to help find it. We have eaten here at least half a dozen times (probably more than that) because my wife loves the food. Every time we've eaten here, the food has been delicious but there has been some kind of issue with the service. Today she told me we don't have to go back. read more

Early dinner with the parents. Party of 5. They haven't even had their grand opening yet, so grace is given. At the time they could not serve from their full bar. Only beer and premix margs. There was a slight language barrier, but it all worked out. And it's a Mexican restaurant. I had Birria tacos for the first time. I'll order them again. So good! Please be advised that they use soy protein in their "ground beef." TVP is reconstituted soy protein that you add water to. TVP looks like extremely fine ground beef, much too fine to be a real meat product. I was wondering why my beef taco was leaking water and enchilada had no flavor. I'm highly allergic to soy & this almost landed me in the hospital with extreme digestive issues. Apparently this TVP is common in restaurants here. It's the texture of Alpo canned dog food. AMAZING RESTAURANT!!! Every time my family and I visit this restaurant it is outstanding. The ambiance is always clean and welcoming. The waiters/waitresses are very friendly and efficient. You can order anything off the menu and it will taste incredible. The free chips and salsa is what adds to this wonderful experience. The salsa is loaded with delicious flavor and the chips are always warm and crispy. The queso at Casa Agave is 10/10 too, and I normally do not like queso! I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are looking for a good time, with some great food & drinks! read more

Really good food - I had the fajita quesadilla, and it was delicious! They had no problem substituting ground beef for the chicken in my husband's enchiladas - he really enjoyed them. The service was excellent! Sad to see Claxxons go, but I'm glad another good restaurant took its place read more

Boring, AVERAGE Mexican food - served by folks who have a hard time understanding our order... Ambiance? NONE, ZERO, NADDA, NOTHING!!! This BLANDLY decorated, (think Doctors Office Waiting Room sterol) "wanna-be" Mexican Restaurant with NO Music playing for ambiance... Do these folks even understand how to run a restaurant? We can sit at home, make the same type of food they served and at least turn on the radio! LOL Chips & salsa were slow being delivered to the table - they were NOT super busy (MAYBE 5 tables total?) - two people at the front desk chatting, then they disappeared. We were finally motioned to, to "seat ourselves"..... ................o.k.. Server had a hard time understanding us as we tried to order - we ended up "pointing" to things on the menu... Food came out at a good time. BUT - it was far from 'authentic" Mexican food.... How sad. We ordered "Fried Ice Cream" for desert.... HA!~ FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR from true Mexican "Fried Ice Cream" - this "recipe" is something some housewife with a Betty Crocker Cookbook yanked out and tried to make/serve us... Fried Ice Cream is NOT a single small scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in Rice Krispie's Cereal (and NOT deep fat fried), then plopped on a deep-fat fried mini tortilla shell!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?!?! And charge 7 bucks for....THAT? HA! *(wanna know what THAT tasted like? Tomorrow morning - pull down a box of cereal, scoop a small scoop of ice cream on it - and.... eat that. I wanna start out by saying I'm not upset at the service, for the most part it was great for it being Mother's Day and it was full. We've been here before and loved it!! That's why we went back. Today, it was horrible!! My water tasted so weird I didn't drink it, the coke tasted like there was no flavor, my blue margarita had barely ANY alcohol in it and for $15 I expected to be able to taste the alcohol. We ordered a margarita blended for my MIL with no salt and it came with so much salt on the rim that it leaked into the drink making it taste salty so we sent it back. My husband got the taco salad and he absolutely loves those and he didn't even hardly eat half of it because it was disgusting. The cheese dip you pay $5.50 for came in such a small bowl you couldn't even dip your chip 1/4 of the way into it. For a $90 meal with a tip cuz the waiters worked their butts off I expected better!! 10/10 will not be going back there EVER!! read more
