On the recommendation of ALL the locals, I stepped into the Johnson City Mall with Pal's on my mind. In the crowded mall food court, I find the red and yellow sign and step up to the counter. I place my order with the bubbly teenage cashier as she recites it into a microphone so the cooks know what to prepare. A minute later, perfection is presented in a brown paper bag in the form of a Sauceburger, Frenchie Fries, and a Peachy Tea. Sauceburger 5/5 Ooey gooey American cheese tops a thin, juicy beef patty. It then gets the special treatment with a slather of a sweet and zesty bbq/ketchup sauce. Sealed between two soft, steamy buns, you will wish you ordered two more. Frenchie Fry 5/5 Crispy, golden shoestring fries sprinkled with a special seasoning salt. Simple, but delicious. Peachy Tea 5/5 This is legit Southern sweet tea. None of that McDonald's mess. The fact that 2 Pal's locations are in the "top 20" when you sort by rating in Johnson City is really misleading. Pal's is just decent, if ubiquitous, fast food with a loyal regional following. It's worth checking out for that, but I don't want you to have "Top 20" type expectations. Not even close. Pal's does a couple of things really well. One is efficiency. It is impressive how quickly they can run 9 cars of orders through in a few minutes. If it looks "too busy" don't let that deter you if you are in a hurry. Their slogan "sudden service" is accurate. "Peachy tea" and the "Big Chicken" sandwich are really good. But, the burgers aren't. They are, and I'm being generous here, just OK. The Big Pals is my favorite. The sauce burger or Double Jr are very good also. The Frenchie fries are a salty fave that makes me double check my BP meds. The first two times I ate at the one by Jonesboro and I almost gave up on them and then I ate @ the one in Erwin and have eaten there over a dozen times since. If you've never been to Pal's you have to got to eat here. It's a drive through only restaurant but they have spaces for you eat in your car. The Big Pal has to be the best hamburger I've ever eaten and the fries ain't bad either. The sweet tea is great and the chipped ham sandwich is like nothing you've ever eaten before. Think outside the box: order a Chipped Ham plain add sauce! The sauce is a Barbeque'ie type sauce and added to the plain chipped ham sandwich is the best thing you have ever tasted. I'd like to be the first to suggest that they add it to the menu and call it a "Saucy Ham Sandwich"! read more

Pal's is always good!!! They have a wonderful cheeseburger or as they call it the Big Pal with Cheese!! Their french fries are seasoned and their hot dogs are great! It is strictly drive thru--you order on one side and drive around to the other to pick up your order. It is always fast and service with at smile! Oh and they have a wonderful tea that you an get unsweeted (plain) or sweetened!! I have been going to Pal's for many years and I can honestly say that it is always excellent and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting this area. I come here very often, I have a personal relationship with the employees. They are so sweet and caring. They have also never gotten my order wrong, it's so great. One time I even left my debit card at home (given my total was only around 3.20) and they gave me my food anyways. They told me I could come back later and pay it, so I did. You can only get this award winning fast food in this part of the country, so give it a go if you are nearby. I would highly recommend this particular Pal's though, and that is because of their beyond exceptional service. All of the facilities in this chain do well, but this one is on the top. I go to school at ETSU and when I get out of class during rush hour there can be a VERY long line, but I go anyway because they are so quick and efficient that the wait is still shorter than McDonalds. Typically with any fast food restaurant, you will run into the never ending crap of things being wrong, left out, and just simply not getting what you want, and then you have to go through the time to take it back. But with Pal's I have not had to do that one single time. It is a great establishment, and I respect the owner's decision to keep it in this area and not let it spread like wild fire like the other fast food restaurants, because they want their quality to stay top notch. This is the most rockin' fast food in the tri-cities! My sister lives in NJ, and everytime she comes home the first thing she wants to do is go to Pal's for a sweet tea, and a chipped ham! LOL, the power of fast food! Now the other reviewers complimented the food as well, and I will agree with them on the quality of the food. They forgot to mention that Pal's is always at the top of the charts when it comes to the health department scores as well. Cleanest fast food place around!
