Came for breakfast with my parents, left after a cup of coffee. The thing is, we were lured in by their expansive menu, hoping for a good, filling, southern breakfast. But when we arrived, right after they opened on a Sunday morning, we were told that they only serve "what we refer to as 'brunch' on Sundays", and were handed paper menus with five items on it. Slightly confused, hoping we could still order off of their main menu, we waited for the waitress to return with our coffee (three Americanos and one latte). And we waited. And then we waited. And we waited some more. While we waited, three other parties came in, sat down, questioned the menu, then got up and left. Had it been just us that had that reaction to the abbreviated menu, I would have voted to woman up and just stay put. I didn't want to be "those tourists" who get all riled up about something local that doesn't fit their expectations. But once we (finally!) got our coffee and asked the waitress for clarification, we realized we had to go. The menu was the menu. Their sides - which are referenced on the menu but are never explained - were lackluster for the "base" and even less impressive for the "premium" options, which of course would have cost us even more money. That, paired with the uninspired and surprisingly one-note menu just drove us right out the door. My latte was at least delightful, but that's all I can say. Also, the place was likely very clean, because we were hit by a powerful smell of disinfectant and/or cleaner when we walked in. And finally, the waitress removed my menu after she saw me taking a picture of it. She didn't touch anybody else's menu, just mine. read more

The service was ridiculously slow in spite of the fact that the restaurant was a third full. My food was room temperature. My wife's food was appropriately hot. So apparently, their short-order cook can't prepare two meals at a time. When I was a short-order cook, I often had to prepare for meals at a time so I know it can be done. I'm not coming back. I find such joy when I discover local places that are unique to the area. I've been to Evelyn's Kitchen Table twice and I have enjoyed both visits. My first encounter was on a Sunday Brunch. I have learned that their Sunday menu changes weekly and that the Brunch carries a theme. The one Sunday I visited was Taxi Driver, movie themed. I had a "You Talkin' to Me?" - Poached Eggs over potatoes and sausage. It was very filling, very delicious. My friend had the "Taxi Driver" burger. My second visit, I wanted to try a salad... well, a Fried Chicken Salad. The outside of the Fried Chicken was so crunchy while the inside was tender and hot. The salad was cool and crisp. I loved having a texture - temperature mix. I experienced that when I dine in at Evelyn's, I'm surrounded at a slower pace. This isn't the fast, rushed, get you in and out, next kind of place. Here, I'm in the moment with company and I savor the meal before me. I like that. There's nothing wrong with quick and fast to get you going, but for me, coming here, I know that it's alright to slow down and take a breather. read more

Good place for Sunday brunch, not very crowded, hometown feel with homemade cakes that change weekly

The service was spot on. Bryan was our server and he very nice and professional. I loved all the scenic photos on the walls and the music was nice too. I got the BEC Waffle with potatoes. The waffle was on point. It was supposed to have bacon in it, but I couldn't see any. The potatoes were awesome. A lot of potatoes, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Ok... I admit it... I am a burger snob. So, WOW, was I pleasantly surprised! Cute little place specializing in breakfast and lunch. Decor is simple, sort of reminiscent of a diner. Staff is very friendly and provided good service. I had the Blue's burger with fries and my wife had the chicken salad sandwich with a cup of tomato soup. Burger was great. No question of where's the beef here. Might be in the top 5 burgers I have had at a restaurant. Fries were also excellent. Not just your fast food fries. Hot, crispy and plentiful. The chicken salad was very good and the tomato soup was outstanding. Everything is made in-house. Will definitely be back and hope to try their breakfast next time. read more

My wife and I went here to start our day my wife loved her omelet. I got the B&G meal my eggs were little undercooked but the bacon was really good. Biscuits were good and huge. Don't get the large orange juice it's $5. It's odd to me to have pop with breakfast bit if you don't get coffee that might be a good choice. read more

Time to fuel the body guys found this place in Kingsport while on a buisness trip. I'm so surprised this place is not filled with reviews. To start off we ordered two orange juices, freshly squeezed and delicious. The peach and cream waffles were to die for the cream is home made, peaches are fresh one of the Best flavors I had on earth. My plate was the eggs, The Best bacon, toast and homemade potatoes this plate tasted so fresh down from the eggs to the toast. I asked for butter and jam but let me tell you this is no ordinary the whipped butter is made in house as well as the jam, I asked if they sell the jams in jars that's how delicious The taste is. Our waiter was Sayde she had the best service, make sure to ask for her. If Yelp allowed me to rate this restaurant based on my own points I would Rate it a 100. Small little stop in Kingsport. Great environment for a breakfast/brunch spot. Clean tables and great staff. Service was quick and friendly. Food was hot and has a different little twist to normal breakfast. The savory waffles have sausage cooked into the waffle with cheese on top. The house potatoes were hot and crispy. I've seen the food ratings for this place but just haven't had a chance to make. here. So glad we made it in today. We had the sausage omelette with potatoes, the country ham, egg and cheese sandwich and grits. The sandwich is huge. The toast it came on was oh so buttery good. The bread was thicker like a Texas toast thickness. The grits were perfectly cooked and the perfect consistency. The restaurant is decorated with photography taken by a local artist. Once was enough for me. My food was NOT good. I was with a large group and I saw nothing on anyone's plate that looked tasty! No one said anything negative but I know I won't go back. The table service as well was not very good although the servers were nice-just not attentive to refill glasses, etc. the final kicker was as I was leaving the restaurant I saw both restrooms were tagged out of order! I loved this little place. It is in a strip mall off the beaten path but if you are just stopping by the area make sure you stop by and try the amazing food and courtesy of the staff. The country bene was great with a homemade biscuit, a slice of ham and country gravy. The only complaint that you may have from some people is that it was a little salty. We came because of the high Yelp review, and so glad we did! Owners are the chefs. The hot chicken sandwich and burger we had were huge (and excellent), with generous portions on the side dishes. The wait staff were cheerful, well coordinated and efficient. Learned later that 2 of the 3 had been with the kitchen since it opened, and the third had been there over a year. My partner and I stopped here while on vacation and we really enjoyed it! My partner ordered coffee, potatoes, and breakfast sandwich-- I ordered jasmine tea with waffle of the day (pecan) with grits and scrambled eggs. The coffee left much to be desired, but the tea was good, they had honey for me to go with it, and the grits were decent. The waffles were light and I liked that the pecans were in the batter. My partner stated that his sausage and homemade English muffin were delicious, and the potatoes were seasoned well. There is also a cute outside area to sit, and if you want onto eat indoors it is well ventilated because the back garage door is open, or at least it was when we visited on a Wednesday morning. A friend and I meet at least twice a week for lunch. We've been here several times and the food is always good. Service is slow, but we always make it out in time to get back to the office. Today was not that day. I arrived at 12:01 and ordered my beverage and told the server I was on lunch and my friend would be there shortly. She arrived by 12:07 and promptly ordered her drink as well. The server then disappeared. She only had 5 tables, which all had their food. The server took her time chatting with some tables, a guy leaving, and then bagged up to go food. Likewise, cook was outside the kitchen leaning on the counter. So obviously there was nothing that could have stopped anyone from getting our order. We sat there until 12:22 and we left money on the table for our drinks and then left. IF you are going to have your restaurant open for lunch, and IF you do not think that your server can handle the restaurant on her own during the lunch hour, then someone should be with her. If this is the speed of service that one will receive at lunch, then I cannot recommend going there for lunch. You will not get out and back to your office in one hour. This place is fantastic! My boyfriend and I were running errands in Kingsport and needed a healthy-ish lunch. So glad we came across Evelyn's! He got the Turkey Sandwich with no tomatoes on focaccia and absolutely loved it. I got the Club Sandwich also with no tomatoes and no mustard. Mine was piled high and delicious! You definitely get a good amount of food-we ended up both saving half of our sandwiches for later. The bread they come on is so good and fresh. It definitely makes the sandwiches more of a stand out item. There is ample seating and the restaurant is clean and well kept with delightful and knowledgeable employees.
