Charleys Is the only thing that brings me happiness on the darkest of days and I'm beyond blessed to see such beautiful smiling faces such as Jordan Ellisons and Andrew Taylor on a daily basis. They cooked my order to exact specification everytime. I ordered my last Chicken Philly medium rare and they cooked it to perfection. I came down with terrible food poisoning and had to have my stomach pumped but that is neither here nor there. I come in here on my lunch break some days and the woman in the apron is so delightful and beautiful her Smile warms my old Irish heart. Charleys will be a forever favorite of mine and will always hold a special place in my heart. Great service and a great food. - Barry McKhockiner

Over priced Philly that was extremely dried out. The service was very fast and everyone was nice but the food was mediocre at best.

Therefore, it was my decision to give them a try for lunch today. With it being new, the interior was sparse but very clean. You order at the counter and then wait on your food to be made. I chose to do take out. After perusing the menu on the wall, I chose a 6" Philly and waffle fries. This came to a total of $15.00 and change! The full size Philly was $15.00 alone. I then waited almost 20 minutes to get my order. Now, understand that they were not overly busy. In fact, when I arrived there were only a few people awaiting food. Everyone else was already served. (2 tables). They only have 6 tables. I finally got my order and left for home. Much to my dismay, the meal was not what I expected for the loooong wait and high price. My half Philly was about 4 inches long and I had barely a handful of fries. I don't understand how they could have been such a hit with their food truck with such paltry portions and long wait times. Guess the students of ETSU are too busy playing on their phones to realize how long they've been waiting. I know I won't return

We got to stop by their new location (they took over The Malvern) and everything about the visit was pure perfection. The food is hearty and comforting - they specialize in hoagies + perogies and their menu boasts some additional fun daily specials. If I could give you any recommendation this week it would be to swing by and grab a brisket + cheese - I promise it'll be one of the best things you've eaten this year. I was eager to try this newish spot from the former co-owner of highly rated Buxton Barbecue, but it didn't turn out so well. Maybe I just didn't know what to order. I guess I'll try it again. Don't know how much time Louie's owner Elliott Moss, who hails from Florence, South Carolina, has spent in Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Poland or Ukraine, where pierogi (yes, that's the plural of pieróg in Polish) are famous. Here, ours with potato and cheese ($11) was totally unlike the classic style, which traditionally features dumplings filled with mashed potatoes and cheese, boiled, then lightly fried and served with onions and butter. What we had was a clump of pale white dough, not fried, with a small layer of potatoes and some kind of cheese on top, and no onions. Our beef brisket and cheese hoagie ($16.49) was messy to eat and looked like the filling was whipped up in a blender. Nothing like the famous hoagies in Phillie or elsewhere in Pennsylvania. Louie's fries ($7.95 for a large serving) were well cooked but oddly topped with pesto and served with a small cup of marinara sauce. I guess that's what a chef calls "creative," but frankly I'd rather have just good fries. There are just four drafts on the drink menu ($5 or $6), plus a selection of cans and bottles. I had the Green Man porter. The booze is well priced, with gin, vodka and bourbon mostly under $10. Again, I love the dive bar atmosphere, much of it left over from the former bar here, The Malvern. There's a silver-painted high tin ceiling, dark blue walls, funky booths and even taxidermy on the walls. Drink prices are very reasonable. But as for the food, I'd rather have a classic burger and fries, rather than a phony pierogi or a hokey hoagie. Maybe next time I should try the smoked wings or the egg plant hoagie. I think this could be a great neighborhood spot in west West Asheville, if the owner would rethink the menu and add some items he know how to cook.

Uptown Cheesesteak definitely knows what it's doing when it comes to bold, satisfying comfort food…read more From the moment I walked in, the aroma of sizzling steak and grilled onions set the tone for what turned out to be a solid dining experience. The cheesesteak itself was the highlight--thinly sliced beef cooked just right, juicy without being greasy, and packed into a fresh, soft roll that held everything together without falling apart. The cheese was perfectly melted. I added grilled onions and peppers, and they brought a nice balance of sweetness and texture. The menu had a good variety beyond the classic cheesesteak, including poutine, loaded fries and other sandwich and burger options, but it's clear the star here is the signature sandwich. Portion sizes were generous, and the prices felt fair for the quality and quantity. Service was quick and straightforward--nothing overly fancy, but efficient and friendly enough to make the experience smooth. The atmosphere was casual and laid-back, making it a great place to grab a quick bite or hang out with friends without any fuss. While you are there, be sure to check out all the unique artwork and murals on the walls. If you're craving a hearty, no-nonsense cheesesteak that delivers on flavor, this place is definitely worth checking out. It's not trying to reinvent the cheesesteak wheel--it's just doing it really well.

I made several visits here to come up with my own assessment of Uptown Cheesesteak. Being originally from the Philadelphia area, I was practically born with a cheesesteak in my mouth. And when I would visit, I always ordered the same thing... the OG Cheesesteak. My conclusion to get this as close to a cheesesteak from Philly... I would ask for double the meat (the ratio of meat to bread must be 3:1 lol) and that the meat needs to be chopped down to near bits. If you bite into one and out comes a huge sliver slice of rib-eye meat, "Negative, Ghost Rider." I will say the fries are excellent. My party and I enjoyed their fries very much. And the staff is always helpful and pleasant; I appreciate them very much when they accommodate my asks. :) THANK YOU!!
