Almost every restaurant in Asheville that serves Gyros use premade deli sliced Sysco "gyro meat" that is grilled to order and often served with a bland mayo based sauce. These sad imitations, served at nearly every greek restaurant in town are a shameful imitation of what a gyro should be - spit roasted, shaved to order and served with real tzatziki sauce (yogurt, garlic, cucumbers) on a warm pita. Mike's is the only place that does it right. They have real Gyro spits and the meat is sliced and then grilled for extra crisp and sauce is perfect. The portions are hefty and the prices are fantastic. They even give you an extra side of Tzatziki without having to ask. One word of warning: The house gyro comes with dill pickles - if thats not your thing, just ask for no pickles (as i do).
