This business was opened in 2008 but the building looks like it's from a much earlier time, the food here was good, the service was exceptional. I was amazed at how fast the line moved and although the seating is limited to a few tables inside and a few more under an awning in front of the restaurant we were able to find a seat even though we ordered our food for take out thinking we'd be eating in the park but we got lucky. You order at the counter and they give you a number placard and find you when your made to order food is ready. Being this was our first time here we were clueless of the protocol but the staff is ready to help with any questions you have. We ordered burgers and shared an order of crinkle fries and both of us got a self-serve fountain drink. This is definitely a local's favorite and boy did they pack this place at noon, only to be out done by their take out orders, this kitchen can put out lots of food so the wait time is very manageable. The burgers were fresh and well put together and delicious, we only realized you have to ask for pickles whether or not you order the burgers all the way after we placed our order so they brought out a small cup full and they definitely are a must. The crinkle fries were crispy and delicious and perfect with a few sprinkles of their signature "dust". I went here today to get a taste of their burgers and wanted to support a local business. I got the J Burger and they cooked it fresh so it took a bit for it to get done. But boy was it worth it! The burger tasted phenomenal! The place reminds of nostalgia like it was a long time ago. They had limited seating but they have expanded seating on the other side. They are very busy after noontime! We loved the food and tea here. I had the bbq pork sandwich with slaw, it was packed full of pork and a delicious sauce. My husband had a cheeseburger and fries he said it was delicious. My sandwich and tea was absolutely delicious. We can't wait to go back and try their milkshakes. Their menu had a variety of options and flavors. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It seems that an order requesting rare means we'll done to them. This was on two completely different burgers. Very salty as well. My burger was supposed to come with fries. When I waited more than long enough to receive them I got up and asked for them and was ignored by one waitress. When I realized she wasn't doing anything about it I got up again I asked another waitress who seemed confused about the request and asked me if I was "ordering" fries as a menu item. She then conferred with a waiter who had to mentally process what was going on. He finally sent in the request to the cook. The fries eventually showed up and they were good, but didn't make up for the poorly made burgers. I'll go to Libby's in Hampton next time like I've done in the past. Now THAT'S a burger and it's cooked rare like I want! Expect tight parking at Jay's when they're busy, though I don't know why there'd ever be so many customers given what we experienced. read more

I lot of cities and towns have a place like J's Corner - the local place that goes against corporate fast food. Sammons, Blue Circle, Pal's...they're scattered around and the locals know their value. A lot of reviews get a local bump from nostalgia or the "it's better than the Golden Arches" feeling. I get it. I also tend to be swayed by the familiarity of a local favorite. J's Corner has been around since 2008, but it gives the vibe of a place that's been around since the 50's or 60's. It was once a DQ, so that vibe is well earned. The menu varies from burgers to BBQ, with chicken sandwiches and hotdogs filling the gaps. The food is good. Burgers are decent sized (and you can go from a single to a triple patty - cardiologist consult not included. I tried the bacon cheese burger. The bacon was perfect in terms of crispness. No one wants to feel the bacon crumble and fall out of the bun with each bite, and you don't want to have to fight each bite with uncooked bacon. I also got a hotdog and crinkle cut fries. Portions are decent. The burger is better than McD's. The chili on the hotdog was good with the chili powder shining through at the right level. The fries were plentiful for a large. Food seemed to be cooked to order, so prepare for a wait. This leads to some awkwardness since there isn't a lot of space inside to wait. If the weather allows you can stand outside and they'll bring it to you. I recommend J's Corner. If you're from out of town and want to sit down (assuming table space exists) to eat a burger off the beaten path, J's will do it. read more

J's isn't a very big place inside, but they have a lot of outdoor seating as well. The staff was very friendly, and the food was amazing. I had a corny dog and my wife had the patty melt. My wife proclaimed that her patty melt to be the best she ever had. I took a bite myself and I have to agree with her. I also had a chocolate shake and it was really great.
