My dining companion & I met some out-of-town friends here for dinner, as it was halfway between where they were staying in Middletown & where we live in Northern RI. The menu & reviews looked promising. I'm glad we had reservations, as they were packed on a Saturday night. I was pleased that we were seated within 5 minutes. I was also pleased that their huge booth fit 4 of us comfortably & they were happy to add a chair at the end for our 5th guest. A basket of warm rolls was immediately placed on our table. The large menu had something for everyone in every price range. We started with drinks, all of which were good. My companion & I shared a bottle of Clean Slate Riesling ($33) which we enjoyed. She & I both ordered the baked sea scallop special, which came with 2 dinner sides for $24.99. The scallops were delicious but I would have been happier if my baked potato & steamed broccoli had been cooked just a few minutes longer. They were edible, just not quite as soft as I prefer. Our friends enjoyed their meals... citrus swordfish (also one of the specials), French onion soup & salad, and a chicken salad sandwich. My companion & I shared a piece of lemon meringue pie for dessert, which was good. It wasn't as big a serving as at some restaurants, but it was enough. I have no idea of the cost as prices are not listed on the dessert menu, a practice I dislike. I also didn't like the fact that I asked for a fork as I don't like eating cake or pie with a spoon & was told I couldn't have one as they were all needed. Our friends enjoyed their peanut butter pie & coconut cake. Our server was adequate. We had to chase her down to ask for water, lemon, etc. I understand she was very busy but a smile would have been nice. I do appreciate the fact that we were not rushed out, and we were allowed plenty of time to catch up with our friends. Also, the hostess was gracious enough to take a photo of our group as we were leaving the restaurant. This restaurant used to be the Country Inn on Market Street in Warren. They have a decent sized parking lot, although it seemed barely sufficient for the amount of volume they do. I would rate this restaurant a 3.5 if I had that option. Will I return? First time ever for this restaurant, even in its former life. Passed by many time before and the parking lot was always full. We finally stopped by for lunch after an appointment in Barrington and we weren't disappointed (and the parklng lot was still full!) Staff are pleasant (Ellie our server was great - great personality!) We started with Clam Chowder (husband's fave) and i had Apple Butternut Soup - delish. The wait was long(ish) but it was worth it. (I'd recommend a reservation though!!) Food was delicious and the servings were plentiful. I got the chicken and waffles which was enough for dinner and lunch the next day-- the waffles were SO GOOD (some of the best I've had) and the sweet potato fries were delicious. My husband and I came here recently for dinner. I was in the mood for a lobster roll, and being gluten intolerant, I was happy to see that they offered gluten free breads and buns on their menu! Plus, I saw good reviews, so I figured it was worth a try. My husband and I both ordered lobster rolls and spicy margaritas. The lobster rolls were $30, and while we got an okay amount of meat, it tasted unseasoned and bland, and we both expected more from it. The margaritas were $15, and I ordered mine with pineapple. It was just pineapple syrup, and unflavored. It wasn't bad, but it was just okay. Both food and drinks just didn't seem to have much effort put into them, and lacked flavor. Our overall experience from the food and the service was just okay. Not bad, not good, but mediocre. The restaurant itself seemed clean, and they had a lot of regulars who clearly loved the place, but we just were expecting more. read more

Came for lunch on a very busy Sunday. Our server in the lounge was doing double duty as a bartender and was extremely friendly, funny, polite and professional. My aunt and I started with calamari which was cooked very nicely and flavorful. We both got steak tips a la mama. I found the steak to be cooked nice and with great flavor. It was served on a bed of a very large portion of potatoes, peppers, and onions with lots of paprika. Very Portuguese style. It was also served with some steamed spinach which had very generous garlic. While super tasty, I would had preferred a bit less garlic and oil on the dish. I definitely didn't dislike the dish but would get something else next time. We had grape nut pudding for dessert and was SO good. It was not overly sweet and seemed just right with the balance of custard and grape nuts. It was delicious and an extremely generous portion. The menu was really expansive and diverse. A really great assortment of seafood, meat, chicken dishes, pastas, sandwiches. Truly something for anyone here. They also had not 1 but 2 pages of specials with everything ranging from steak tips, to clam boil, to lasagna. This is a great stop for groups due to the sheer array of options to pick from. The decor inside is very modern and spacious and nicely done. I honestly had not been here since it was a prior establishment and while it has the same "bones" of the old place, they also opened it up and modernized it. We have been a few times since moving to the East Bay. It has such a perfect ambience for Sunday dinners, family dinners, or just a nice date for my husband and eye. Very pleasant ambiance, meticulous service and attention from all staff. I would recommend a reservation! Now, for the food...excellent! Seafood, pasta, tender chicken. I was definitely impressed after coming here for dinner a little while back. Previously it was a really good Italian restaurant called the Countryside restaurant which closed abruptly several years ago. It has much of the same layout as the previous restaurant had. It's mainly American cuisine with some Portuguese food and Italian food selections. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Staff was attentive and courteous. The atmosphere is nice, however the food is extremely lacking. I ordered the portabello melt, it was flavorless and weird with warm avocado on it. It was crispy and tasted like chemicals. I also ordered a cookie lava for dessert. It was stale and had no lava. The person I was with ordered a burger which they said was tasteless and messy. I wouldn't recommend. It is a family style restaurant with big portions! The waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and the inside of the restaurant is clean and well kept. Food was very good and this place has weekly specials and has plenty of seafood choices. I had stuffed cod with crabmeat and another time I had crab cakes. What a great meal tonight for Christmas Eve! There were 11 of us, and although we had a reservation, we were at 2 tables. Paige and Zach took very good care of us, and even had other tables. Calamari for an appetizer was very good, and arrived quickly, as did the drinks. We all had an assortment of entrees, from prime rib, pastas, and fish as well as some of their specials. We were able to order off the regular menu as well. One of our party received the wrong pasta dish, and they brought out the right one very soon after. She even got a dessert for the error! They even took care of my nephew who ordered his meal and received it immediately since he got called into work soon after arriving at the restaurant. I really enjoyed our entrees we had the chicken parm and the buffalo chicken Alfredo meal (it had a name I just forgot it ) We were seated near the register/ area where they put in the orders, and it seemed to be that the employees thought the wall was soundproof even with the open door area, we were hearing alot of their conversations right there. Sounded like everyone was having a good time and enjoys their job though! We also ordered two cocktails which were pretty mediocre but maybe the bartender on duty just wasn't the best. Was driving by and stopped for lunch. Sat at the bar, had a wormtown ipa, tasty. Ordered the Reuben. It was delicious, many places make them so sloppy that you cannot pick them up. The fries are battered and very crispy. While watching the bartender, I wouldn't order a martini here, their glasses are not chilled and she doesn't fill them with ice before she mixed the drink. This was my very first visit to Palmer River Grille, and it certainly will not be my last! This is a fabulous restaurant, in every way! The nautical theme is carried through every lovely room in this restaurant, in subdued, aqua nautical shades of blue. It is a very relaxing theme and very attractive. The menu is quite extensive and includes every type of food one can imagine. Service is impeccable, as well. I enjoyed the scallops Thermidor, along with a vegetable medley and the most delicious breaded/fried cauliflower!! I took half of my meal home, for a second meal. Everything was extremely tasty and fresh and prices are moderate. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! The parking lot is always full, so I believe many others feel the same way I do!
