I ordered from this location twice in recent weeks, for delivery to our office. Although there is a cafeteria close by, the rotation has become predictable and the quality and variety are not what they once were. The nice thing about Korean food is the inclusion of banchan, a different vibe from mac salad or even tossed salad. The first time, I ordered the Spicy Pork Plate, and today, the Kalbi Plate. The spicy pork was tasty, though it didn't especially stand out. Today's kalbi was delivered while still hot. The two slabs of kalbi were placed on a sheet of liner paper to keep the juices from dripping onto the rice and banchan underneath. I saw how much liquid the paper had collected; it was the right move. I enjoyed the kalbi very much. It was tender enough for me to cut through the meat around the bones using the provided plastic knife. A very nice change from my usual lunch routine. read more

This is a small operation inside the Palama Market on N. King St. Authentic tasting classic Korean dishes. I've been here twice and my go to is kalbi, I can't resist. It is soft, well marinated, comes with very small portions of four banchan-- cabbage kimchi, cucumber, bean, sprout, and kimchi daikon, and of course plenty of rice. Two ribs is $18, which was perfect for lunch, $23 for three ribs. My mom got the mandoo kooksu, which my mom said the broth was OK, but not as good as another Korean place a few blocks away but a good price at $11. I think she would order it again. Warning: they charge you one dollar if you want gochujang sauce to go. Plenty of parking, as it is in Palama market, which is extra nice because I could do some shopping while I waited the 5 to 10 minutes for my order. It's my 'Go To' on days I don't have time or energy to make a family meal... The Korean plates and noodle dishes come with rice and a variety of kimichi. They make it when you order, so it's piping hot. I particularly like the grilled (fried) fish, tofu stew, cold soup noodle, and spicy squid plate... Oh, heck! It's all good. Hard to find any plate lunches for under $10 bucks now-a-dayz, but I found it here when I ordered da BBQ Chicken plate (it's $9.00 bucks). As for service, that's another story. Lol! I came here off hours - (way past lunch time, I wanna say about 3:00ish?). As I walked up to the ordering counter there was no line and I thought someone would promptly greet me, & take my order right away. The workers up front did see me, but decided to do other things, other than take my order. As I waited, finally someone comes up & takes my food order. Food comes out fairly fast, then the lady just puts my BBQ Chicken plate in a plastic bag & dumps the plate on the counter, not saying anything. As I waited for my food, I was thinking if that plate was mine? Or had someone phoned in an order & she just placed the plate on the counter before someone showed up to pick up the food? Small Korean cuisine shop hidden inside Palama Marketplace in the back. The menu is small but I noticed they would cater some stuff. Cheap pricing for the food here. Ordered the tofu soup that came with 3 side pickled veggies and a bed of rice. It's similar to Yummy BBQ but much cheaper. It tasted pretty good with decent amount of ingredients in the soup. Do not sleep on this place. Located inside of Palama Supermarket at their Kalihi location, you'll find this little takeout place. All food is made with their meats, produce etc. I had the Kimchee Soup which comes with (3) sides-kimchee-shredded daikon-zucchini and rice for $14.00. The portion was a lot. Their take-out container for the soup is pretty big. Inside the soup was kimchee, pieces of shredded beef, tofu, zucchini. The soup itself is not spicy but tasty. I added (1) piece Meat Jun for $5.00. The meat jun was juicy and very flavorful. They have about 6 tables with 2-4 seats each. I went at lunch time, and it was quite busy, from people shopping in Palama to people just ordering their lunch. I like that the food is prepared when ordered and comes out fresh. This review is about their Spicy Cold Noodle and Kimbap. Inside of Palama Market, there lies a little snack corner, literally in the left back corner of the store. I knew that they had cheap food options and I always wanted to try. First off, the store is WAYY more chill than the one near Don Quijote. Highly recommend going here for an overall relaxing experience grocery shopping. Yes, got the Spicy Cold Noodle and Kimbap. The Kimbap was actually bought from the front, because they make it in that kitchen and make it available by leaving it in the front. But anyways, we tried the original Palama Kimbap and Kimchi Kimbap. The Palama Kimbap is so original and perfectly tasty. The beef is so well-seasoned and compliments every other colorful ingredient in the roll. The Kimchi Kimbap does not have meat but has a yellow daikon, carrots, egg, kimchi, and perilla leaf (I think). Oh its so good and not spicy or overwhelming with kimchi taste. But the leaf in the roll adds such a dimension of taste - a weak minty-leafy flavor but doesn't overwhelm. The Spicy Cold Noodle was very interesting. The bed of noodles sit under a huge bed of lettuce and nori. They load it up with the sauce, and the sauce is sweet, spicy, tangy, and seasme-y. I do think they also use a lot of garlic. But it was very delicious. Noodles were chewy and soft. This Spicy Cold Noodle is on the more "plain" side, considering the low amount of toppings used I've had other places. However, I was hungry and craving those noodles so it did the job. Prices are a well-kept secret. Spicy Cold Noodle for $8 and Kimbap for $4.50/$5! If you are hungry and are in the area, you won't have to break-the-bank to eat something delicious and satisfying here! So glad I got to try them - finally! I love Korean food so this was definitely satisfying. The food is yummy and authentic. You probably pay twice as much at "gourmet" restaurants, plus tip. Here, none of that nonsense. And while the seating is small and limited, the less-busyness of this location does not make that an issue. I'm definitely coming back here to try their other Korean dishes. read more

So I came here thinking it was the same place as the other one in town by Ala Moana and even though it technically is, I think this location is a lot better because of the quantity of the food. I order a $12 kalbi plate from the other side and get 3 slabs of kalbi with 2 sides which is still cheap, but this place gave me 5 slabs of kalbi and 3 sides. I'm not sure if I lucked out or what, but I definitely gotta come back again to see if it happens again lol. I ordered the usual kalbi/bbq chicken combo and $3.50 15pcs fried mandoo, but this time I ordered the Kimchee Stew which is similar to a Kimchee soup, but it tasted more spicy on the kimchee-ey side. I probably wouldn't order it again. I want to try kalbi cabbage soup next. I phone ordered and it was ready in 10mins. The staff was quick and friendly. There are a lot of parking available. Great deal and tasty food - I'm a huge fan of this place. I wanted to get Korean food for a party - I hate serving/eating food when it's not hot, but figured that Korean food usually holds up pretty well even if they're eaten room temperature and not piping hot. We ordered 2 medium pans of barbeque chicken, medium pan of spicy pork, and 6 rolls of korean sushi, or kimbap. (In addition to a few other main dishes we served). I was told that there are fifteen to sixteen pieces of bbq chicken per medium tray, so I ordered two trays, but probably could've fed my group (20 adults, about 15 kids) with one medium tray, since the pieces are huge and we cut them into smaller pieces prior to serving. The chicken was pretty good, though a bit hard (I prefer moist chicken), but I guess that's what happens when you have bbq chicken, and at least the flavor was good. Still, for $30/medium tray, it's such a good deal. The $30 medium spicy pork tray was the star - several people asked where we bought it from. If you like spicy food, this is really good - super flavorful, perfect with rice. It filled up the medium tray and we had about half the tray left - since not everyone can handle spicy food, I'd probably order a medium tray for up to about 50 people. The korean sushi were okay but kind of fell apart - I think because they were cut in really small pieces, ten pieces per roll. It's worth the $4 to me - I wouldn't want to or be able to put in all that work of preparing the vegetables (matchstick carrots, choi sum, yellow daikon), egg and beef and rolling it up and slicing it for only $4. I like that they include so many veggies, so even though we didn't serve the typical choi sum or beansprouts banchan at our party, I felt like our guests still were able to get their fill of sesame flavored vegetables. The presentation also looked nice in a tray. We debated ordering spicy squid stir fry, which we taste tested prior to ordering and was also well priced. I liked that it was stir fried with lots of zucchini, though it did get a little fishy after a few bites (my daughter thought it was stinky) and was quite spicy. It's a good dish to order for $7, but I probably wouldn't order it for a party. My go-to place when there's nothing to eat at home and when I'm sick of the fast food places around me. Korean food is one of my favorite things to eat. There's just something about it that makes you wanting more. Located in Palama Supermarket in the back left corner is where you can find fresh, affordable Korean dishes. They recently underwent renovations but I'm not really sure what's different? You can either have your food to-go or eat at the designated tables. The nice thing is you can do a bit of grocery shopping while waiting for your food. I normally order the barbecue chicken or the meat jun but I decided to try something different and order the chicken katsu plate The chicken katsu was a bit of a let down...the breading to meat ratio was ridiculous! For at least 2/3 of the plate, the meat was literally a centimeter thick so basically you're just eating breading...for the pieces that had some meat in them, they weren't bad. We called to order food on 4/29 for my father's funeral on 5/6. Approx. $1100 for food for 75 people. (Our headcount ended up being closer to 100, but it worked.) The food was a hit! Their Kalbi dish, in my view, is far superior to their competitors have to offer because of its succulency, thickness, tenderness, tastiness, portion, and lowered price. Cheap Korean plates at your service. Did I mention it was cheap? Now a days you'd have to pay $10+ for a Korean plate. Here? Less than that! I mainly come here for their Tofu Soup or their Yook Gae Jang. They're one of my all time favorite dishes! And for $8.00?! I can't go wrong and all the orders comes with some bonchon and 2 scoops of rice. The soups aren't as spicy but they're good for the price you pay. The bulgogi is a little dry but they give a lot of meat!! The meat jun too! They have bottled water and other soft drinks on the side for you to purchase with your food. You can buy a side of BBQ chicken for $7. And that includes 3-4 slabs of chicken. Which means you could put on a pot of rice, go buy the box of chicken, and VOILA, you have food for your three children. And that is what I used to do all the time. But now we are healthy and vegan and gluten-free and I get to spend two or more hours every single day preparing foods, and it is so wonderful and I definitely don't feel like a gourmet slave. They also have surprisingly delicious kalbi, and this place became my go-to since my girlfriend is a kalbi fiend. Was a kalbi fiend. I don't know why this wasnt a trend a LONG time again but I love the food that comes out of supermarkets. Most of the time. All the Palama markets on the island have been great. The one near Waikiki has the most options but they are all very good and at a very decent price point. Today I got the combo plate which included two generous pieces of Kalbi and BBQ chicken each. Served with some traditional sides and white rice. I couldn't finish it. I was very impressed with the freshness of the meat and the marinated flavors. Caught up with an old acquaintance the other day---the "Spicy Squid" plate at the hot food concession in Palama Supermarket. I'd have it maybe once a week when Palama Supermarket was on Dillingham Boulevard so was quite acquainted with it. Now, for $7.50 you get a goodly portion of squid legs and pieces stir fried with long slices of green and red peppers, zucchini, carrot, and onions in a sweet, thick chili pepper sauce (kochujang?) + rice + 3 kinds of banchan. Still tasty, but I seem to remember it was even tastier when that small Filipino lady used to make it for me before. And cheaper too. She's no longer there, and the recipe has definitely changed. Even old acquaintances---things and people---change, but more so nowadays it seems. So I've been coming to the store for a while and have been skeptical about trying the food. So one day I finally came to order and I thought that the food was alright service sucks but the food was tolerable. It's kind of confusing when you first see the snack shop, only because it's all the way in the back of the store and right next to the snack shop, they have a chicken place which looks vacant because it looks empty. Be prepared for bad service, every single time I come i am ignored by the cashier or I get an attitude. I usually am standing in front of the cashier for a few mins before I am even acknowledged, and when I order it's like they give no f's. FYI If you request extra things such as a plastic bowl they will charge you .25 with an attitude. The food, I've tried the soups and thought they were a bit watery for me,but I liked the fact that it comes with 2 scoops rice and a few sides, p.s. the kimchee that is on the plate sucks here. I tried the bbq chicken and honestly don't care for it because it is really dry and they don't give a lot. I came across the anchovy kimchee stew and it saved this place for me. The stew is the best thing on their menu and the only reason I continue to come back. The kimchee in the stew is cooked perfectly and the flavor from the anchovies just pulls everything together well. It's wierd that I prefer the kimchee in their stew instead I as a side. I think they use a different kimchee not sure. Drinks, they only sell food, no fountain drinks if you want to purchase a drink you can either purchase from the store or from their bland showcase. Also come early I noticed if I come later in the afternoon they run out of food, like today they ran out of my kimchee anchovy stew and I had to settle for a very watery soup. All in all service sucks and food is like a roulette if your lucky it'll be good if not well you know what. I've ordered from their takeout menu since they opened at this location and the food has been very tasty. I noticed a change in their menu today when I spotted the Hwe Dae Bap and Mul naengmyun. Turns out they're under new management...but don't worry...the good old standby dishes like the Kalbi plate, BBQ chicken, and Spicy pork are still there! They DO NOT skimp on portions. Also, the food is delicious. The meat jun is coated with a delicious egg batter and isnt oily like many other korean places. The meat is thick and got a nice bite to it. The spicy pork has got the right amount of heat and is super addictingly yummy. Reccomend calling in a phone order in advance so that you dont have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for your food. I will come back to try all the other delicious menu items. Hard to get better homestyle for cheap. They have stuff that the normal Korean local fast food places like Gina's or Yummy's do not have like naeyng myun, duk mandoo, kalgooksoo and soon dubu. Very inexpensive and capable hwae dup bap (spicy sashimi salad with rice) at around $9, which you can grind in the food court area. Fish is of reasonable quality (given the price), cut cleanly, and not mealy or overly old-tasting. Rice sitting underneath is short-grained and not too wet or saturated, unlike plate-lunch-style gohan (love East-Asian-immigrant-style rice SO MUCH...when it comes to Hawai'i, somehow, this perfectly good grain staple gets MUSHY). Lots of fresh salad, mostly romaine with some kaiware sprout lookin' stuff thrown in. Lightly dressed with sesame oil, then you toss in the separate sauce. The sauce tastes like gochujang with soy, garlic, sugar, vinegar, and something else--my husband said an herb, but I guessed fish sauce? We're not Korean, so unfamiliar with the range of flavors in this taste palette. Anyway: Call it the crack that pulls everything together. Many have said it's like bibimbap, albeit with fish instead, but I find the lack of salty pickly veggies very refreshing, in contrast with that dish. Mix it all up, and you get a healthy and nourishing and YUMFUL meal for under $10. read more

I have been a loyal customer for over 12 years so very disappointed on my last visit. There are 3 of us waiting to order. First old Korean man orders soft tofu stew, he's order #43. I'm next, and I order the same soft tofu stew, I'm order #44. Korean woman behind me also orders soft tofu stew, order #45 Cool, soft tofu stew popular today. I allow 45 minutes to eat then go to work. They call "order 43"! Old Korean man gets his stew right away maybe 5 minutes wait. They are moving fast. About another 5 minutes and I hear "order 45"! I'm thinking that's weird. The lady who ordered same food after me gets her order first? I'm thinking I see a pattern here, but I'll be patient. A total of 30 minutes goes by and the old Korean cashier asks what my number is. I tell her 44. She replies that the cook just now dropped my order of tofu stew on the floor so I will have to wait even longer. I said how long? She replies 10 minutes. I tell her I need to be at work in 15 minutes so no time. She seems irritated that I want a refund. I don't know how many more bowls of soft tofu stew were ordered after mine but It looks like Koreans will get preferential treatment at this store even when order is already paid for. Chicken Katsu was a complete and total disappointment. Two small pieces. It was so disgusting that you can tell that it was made from frozen chicken cutlets. Awful taste and texture. Some pieces so thin there was no chicken inside, it was like eating breaded chicken jerky. Not sure what they use for the 'sauce' but it was gross. I'd say this is the one thing on the menu that I will never order again. I just felt like eating something different. And THIS was DIFFERENT!! I recommend ordering the other usual "local kine" menu items: Kalbi. BBQ Beef, Spicy fried chicken, spicy pork, meat jun, Bi Bim Bap, Bi Bim Kook Soo, Hot Kook Soo. Good affordable Korean food. Pretty authentic too. I think most meals are about $7 or $8. Lots of seating available and pretty relaxing. I tried a whole bunch of different plates but my favorite is the yukejang. I know I spelt it wrong but if you tell the cashier this you will get what I'm talking about. I eat here about three times a week (I work near by) the ladies are nice and the service is fast considering what they are serving. I love the soft tofu soup and the spicy squid! Not much sides but I'm ok with that. They have a table in front that has grab and go items that is good and easy if your in a rush. read more
