Upon arriving, there's no one at check in. They leave your name and room key in an envelope at the front desk. I guess I'm not use to this, but it was late and I just wanted to get into my room. I had a room on the 2nd floor. It was great and very comfortable. Lots of space for 1 person. The room had a mini fridge that had several water bottles, sodas, fruit, yogurt. It was very accommodating that they provided that for their guest. One evening it was raining and I was caught in the rain.. my clothes were drenched and I decided to do laundry. It was very easy to use and I found it super convenient. I loved Hotel Sterling and will probably be back when I'm in town again.

We heard people later on that night coming and going, but never saw another soul. We had the curb-side room since my wife was on crutches. The parking is great and free. The service, while almost invisible is excellent. The rooms are outstanding. The price is reasonable. The in room refreshments are free. I only wish we could stay here more often. My one complaint has little to do with the hotel. Downtown Monroe isn't doing great and some of the shops and eateries nearest walking distance were closed. But it's Monroe. You can drive across town in 5 minutes.

The parking lot out back is large enough to park your truck, boat and trailer. Fantastic!!! It get's better, they have a fish cleaning station and a trophy board for perfect picture opportunities. There is also power out at the parking lot so that you can charge your boat/trolling motor over night. SUPER CONVENIENT!! When staying here they make you feel like you're right at home. There is a common area with a tv, kitchen, dining room, shuffle board, ping pong table, books, board games and so much more. This is free for anyone to use while staying here. Our room was great. There was a sink, microwave and full size refrigerator/freezer, couch, tv and dining table in one large area. There was a separate bedroom and bathroom as well. I loved it. I highly recommend staying here if you're coming to Gross Ile! If you're a fisherman or guide you should really consider staying here. Book early because they fill up fast for the fishing season.

Due to this, I am not sure why i had to pay over $200 for a room PLUS the outrageous fee for "water park" entry. The water in the splash park was SO cold we could only stay in for 15 minutes before my daughters' lips turned blue. Total waste of money! All night long children were running through the halls, even playing ding dong ditch. The guests directly upstairs sounded like a herd of elephants ALL NIGHT LONG. I came with a 1 year old and a 3 year old and none of us slept throughout the night. I called the office about it but it continued throughout the night/early morning. There was nothing else about this hotel and waterpark was even average. I have never had such consistently poor service from any other vacation-type destination. Check-in is woefully understaffed and results in lines. We had to have our room key remade twice because it stopped working... There was a ten minute wait at the front desk both times. The in-house restaurant is where we found the worst service. It was as though they were surprised to see guests, and after our experience, I see why. We ate dinner there and waited to place our order, waited for drinks, burgers were overcooked, and all three burgers were gone by the time the mustard we requested made it to the table. We made the mistake of eating at the breakfast buffet the next morning. We waited 25 minutes to be seated, while staring at several (not sure if it was 4 or 5) empty tables the entire time. Once seated, it was another 20 minutes before anyone stopped to take a drink order, and then another 10 minutes before we received our bill. My family will never return to this location.

The hotel of proclaimed "limitless romance" sits awkward and unassumingly on a back road between commercial businesses. I had been waiting months for this visit because, as expected in the Midwest, hotel rooms with personal pools can be a hot commodity so I booked WAY in advance. For a price tag of over five hundred dollars, the Grand Royal Pool Suite gave us every amenity I could've imagined; soaking tub, two person shower, plush robes, electric fire place, soft king bed, sauna and what we really drove all that way there for, our own personal, private swimming pool. During our stay at Belamere Suites we found indulgence, comfort and, as advertised, limitless romance.

You get a place to lay your head and you get a feel for what it's like to live in a place. In a sense, visiting Detroit is like visiting another country. It defies convention and expectation and pulls you in. Honor & Folly is a terrific place to fall in love with the city. It's perched above three essential places: a BBQ joint, a cocktail bar and a coffee shop. Across the street is the iconic ruin of Michigan's central station. Down Michigan is downtown Detroit. The interior is beautiful and driven by a strong design aesthetic. Goods like blankets, dishes and cutting boards are for sale and their makers have fascinating only-in-michigan stories. The proprietress, Meghan, is a design connoisseur and clearly a linker of people, who cultivates a very easygoing vibe while sacrificing nothing in terms of the quality of visual effect. Every object in every room seems to have a functional and decorative purpose. Here's what you need to know about Honor & Folly. Parking is street only and because Slows BBQ is so popular (as in wait for two hours for a table popular), many people are parking on the street. Even so, we had no problem finding a decent spot within view of where we were staying. This is a self-catering place so you can buy food and cook it up, but there's no breakfast with the bed. We bought coffee downstairs, had them grind it and then brewed our own little french press each morning. I highly recommend this inn. If you've given serious thought to exploring Detroit or just want a nest-like getaway, check it out. The Honor & Folly site describes the inn as: "A small-scale, design-focused Detroit inn, Honor & Folly is reminiscent of the way folks used to travel: a few beds above the village pub or restaurant with a hearty breakfast. You'll be immersed in the oldest neighborhood of Detroit - smack in the middle of one of the most thriving blocks in the city. You'll sit next to locals at the bar downstairs--or the coffee shop--and learn about the city from people who live here. Detroiters are a pretty friendly lot."

Just outside the door of the pad, there are unique Corktown restaurants, cafes, and bars (i.e., Slows B.B.Q., The Sugar House, Mercury Burger and Bar, and Astro Coffee, what else do you need, eh?!). We did not have a car during our stay in the Motor City, yes, if you can believe it. Used Via Rail train service to Windsor station, then, hired a taxi to take us to the U.S. During the day, one can easily walk from the apartment to all sites in the downtown of Detroit, and hire a taxi if too tired to walk back. Again, car is not required to get the best out of Detroit, so long as you like to walk, befriend a reliable taxi driver, and know where you're heading. We can't wait to go back to Detroit, and stay here.
