Update: The wall color turned out nice, but after the job I discovered several issues -- paint on outlets and hardware, some areas that needed more coverage, paint splatter in the bathroom, and he removed my sink stopper in a way that ended up breaking the drain assembly. I appreciated the fast scheduling, but overall the workmanship wasn't where it needed to be.

I reached out to Nate about painting two accent walls, and he responded immediately--he was able to come the same day I inquired, which was a huge help. He tackled the job solo and had everything done within a day. Super efficient, but more importantly, he's a perfectionist who takes real pride in his work. He didn't rush through anything just to finish quickly--he made sure it was done right, even if that meant taking a little extra time. You can tell he actually cares. Highly recommend.

Nathan did a great job with removing the temporary walls of a converted living room in my apartment at a very affordable price quote. He was efficient, professional and clean all the construction waste as if the wall was never there. Highly recommended!

after working with Nate, i am convinced all the bad reviews here are fake. have never had a better experience working with a contractor. i reached out to him on Yelp after noticing a bad crack in my drywall and he was able to come fix it that same day. luckily it wasn't a structural problem, but Nate sawed off the bent drywall, applied a filling compound, and left me the tools and knowledge i needed to finish the fix myself, which i appreciated. his prices were extremely affordable too, and i enjoyed hanging out and chatting with him while he was doing the fix. thanks Nate!!

After!

Do you own a place in San Francisco? If so, go no further. I reached out to Nate in despair when I ripped a piece of wooden siding off my wall to install a closet, only to find out the plaster underneath was hardly usable (in fact, it was about 100 years old). Nate quickly provided a quote and made time to race over later that day, start the work, and finish quickly in the morning. He didn't price gauge me (I'm still getting quotes for more than what I paid w Nate), he explained what he was doing and why, paid close attention to the use of the wall and customized based on that, and was so helpful and encouraging of trying the work myself next time. He even gave me some plaster and a mixer! Overall, the right kind of dude you wanna know in SF and couldn't recommend more.

After. The goal was to draw less attention to all the lines on the house and find a more muted + modern color palette.

My experience with Paint Studio SF was nothing short of amazing! I contacted Nate on a Friday night about painting the exterior of my home and he responded very quickly. Something I noticed about him compared to the other places I inquired with was that he was willing to give me his insight and a general estimate before even seeing the house in person. Most places didn't want to talk about any details until after they saw the house and/or after deposits were placed. Nate checked the house soon after I first contacted him and we spent a long time talking about our ideas. He gave me several books of color swatches (the ones you see at the paint stores), offered to stop by another day with some paint samples to test on the house, and power washed soon after. Once I put down my deposit, we set a date to paint. Nate is very flexible with his start dates and was patient when I had to change the schedule. His painters were very kind, considerate, and made sure I was a part of the entire process. They ensured I was okay with any color placement before proceeding, which I especially appreciate because I like to see the house painted section by section since we were changing the entire paint design of the home. The painting took less than two days to finish! I was nervous when looking for exterior paint services, but Nate made the experience enjoyable and stress-free. Thank you, Nate and his team, for the speedy and thorough exterior paint job. I'll be using them for any other paint projects in the future.

Nate just finished a sizeable renovation project in my loft that involved fixing drywall in very high areas of the ceiling, repainting ceiling and walls performing multiple patches in different rooms and refreshing paint on baseboards and doors. All was performed with high professionalism and of very solid quality and pretty much fit the planned budget. Would definitely recommend Paint Studio SF to any home owner and renter who needs to perform paint job projects!

After all the work, the bathroom looks perfect and better than before!

My wife and I have had great experiences with two other woodworkers in San Francisco, but they were…read moreunavailable for this project, so we hired SF Custom Woodworks to: 1. build a windowbox which would also function as a headboard for a bed, with built-in drawers and hinged openings for storage, made of ash veneer on plywood 2. cut a large slab desk which previously filled that window into two smaller desk slabs, to be installed elsewhere Our main contact was Alex, who was great to work with: rapidly responsive at all hours, friendly, accommodating. We were quoted $7,850. Remarkably, the windowbox was built and installed in less than a week. Unfortunately, the attention to detail in execution was poor: * the seams between the four main pieces aren't properly aligned, producing unsightly and rough-feeling edges * many of the edges were cut in a way which badly chipped the veneer * one of the hinged openings is badly misaligned, resting several mm above the surface * a drawer face was delivered with a stray drill hole * one of the main front faces was delivered with a large gouge * one of the drawers was designed to hold a CPAP machine; Alex carefully measured it, but delivered a drawer which didn't fit it * the drawer faces were attached with finishing nails rather than hidden joinery; the nail holes were then covered with poorly matching filler * the desk slabs were returned to us with gouges in the main surface, a 2" divot taken out of an edge face, and unfinished sides Alex told us that the misalignments are because our floor isn't level--which is fine, but the other two woodworkers we've worked with carefully shimmed their bases into place on-site so that everything would be level. Alex told us that finishing nails were necessary to attach the drawer faces, but another woodworker who built ash veneer cabinets for us produced beautiful results with hidden joinery. We sent Alex a list of 13 issues with photos; Alex gamely told us that he'd send one of his woodworkers to fix all but one issue. After a month delay with several reschedulings on both sides, the woodworker came. He fixed the two issues with the desk slabs, but in the process he also partially removed its surface finish, without comment and without offering to refinish it. He said he didn't know how to fix the other issues, and we were left with unfinished desks we still couldn't install. At this point, Alex stopped responding to messages. I gave up and refinished the desk slabs myself, which took about five hours. We planned to put a cushion on half the windowbox and leave the other half exposed, to enjoy the wood tone, but because the execution quality on the windowbox was poor, we decided to cover the whole thing with cushions instead. They meant well, I think, and they really did try. They did deliver roughly the windowbox we wanted, though with a low level of craftsmanship. I think they just don't have the skills/experience needed to execute this project well, and we didn't realize that before hiring them.

Replacement of six worn dining chair seat cushions and making the chairs more stable and safe. Alex and his crew did a great job with both, using solid teak legs for the table and dissembling and reglueing the dining chairs and fixing the seat cushions. The mohair chair backs were in good shape, and glued to the frame, so we wanted to keep them, though the seats had no cushion left and needed replacement. Alex closely matched the mohair backs- as he said, "a little different style but you'll like it!" We do! The cost was very reasonable and both projects were done in less than a week, with pickup and delivery. It was a pleasure working with him: great communicator, knowledgeable, and honest. Highly recommend.

My home is an upper unit of a 2 unit, 115 year old building in the Castro. You can see from the photos below that Gregory did a beautiful professional job on my project, working with the architect/designer who had suggested the built-ins, and responding to my particular requests. Fitting new cabinetry into an old wooden building required a lot of customization during installation, and Gregory was definitely up to the task - as mentioned by other reviewers he is easy to work with, creative, flexible, with an "incredible eye." He did all the installation and finishing himself (with a helper). To be fair, it took Gregory longer than he had estimated to make and install the cabinetry, but it was definitely worth the wait and he was very responsive and obliging throughout the process. The quality and value were top notch; the cost was about 50-60% that of the estimates I received from online cabinetry firms I contacted. Definitely a 5 star experience - thank you Gregory!

He is so incredibly easy to work with, creative, flexible, and has an incredible eye. He got a feel for our taste and made the benches fit aesthetically in our space seamlessly. It was not an easy thing to install either with the angles of the apartment. We could could tell it required a lot of skill and patience. We cannot imagine our space without them now. The bookcases on each side of the center chest piece was his idea too and it was such a clever use of space and it looks great. Truly, we cannot recommend him enough for his skill, taste, and he's really just the nicest guy. If we could get ten stars we would!! And his partner is awesome. They are the greatest team.
