John Hanford Hanging Services - Handyman Near Me

John is a gem. He came over today and helped hang a dozen items in our new home, and he was fabulous from start to finish. He showed up exactly on time, made excellent suggestions yet also took our taste into account, and positioned and hung everything thoughtfully, professionally and efficiently. We're hiring him again once the rest of the art arrives. Thanks John! read more

John is incredibly knowledgeable and has a good eye for art placement. We've used him on several occasions and will continue to

I am extremely happy with John's work! I found him very organized, extremely detail oriented and focused at all times. I had 30 (mainly large) paintings, some in groups, to hang with 10' ceilings. It looks amazing. Not my art per say, but the presentation. If you are looking for a fabulous 'gallery' look, please get in touch with John. He will show up, masked if need be, and he's a professional. I imagine any size job will be tackled with this high standard! Highly qualified! read more

Wonderful, conscientious service with a smile. John has a mix of technical skill and aesthetic sensibility. I'd definitely call him again.

Regarding Commercial Quote We didn't end up going with John this time, as he explained that our installation was a 2 person job (understandably so). Although, my interaction with him will keep him at the top of my list next time we need a one person job. John answered my Yelp quote and telephone call promptly. Fair quote as well. Support SF natives and give John a call. read more

I needed about 12 framed things placed on the wall. Found John on Yelp and he replied within 24 hours and an appointment made for 2 days later. John was on time, ultra friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He came with all material needed to hang my artwork. We discussed placement, I asked for his advice and he provided great ideas. It took him a little less than 2 hours to measure and hang everything, meanwhile having a great conversation about growing up and still being a San Franciscan. Truly a nice guy and I highly recommend his work. He was efficient, non-intrusive, well prepared and knowledgeable. The artwork and its placement looks great. Thank you Sir. read more

had john hang some art and he was super fast, friendly and helpful. all around great guy. would call him again!

I have a framed print that is a family heirloom and is priceless to me. So I wanted to have it hung by someone that I could completely trust to do it well. John was the perfect choice for the task. He first took down a TV cable outlet that would rub on the print that was being hung over it. He went to great lengths to put the outlet inside the hole that was left in the wall, while making sure it could be retrieved easily. He was very easy to work with and did a perfect job of centering the print on the wall. read more

John hung a mirror and a bunch of other stuff at our house and did a fantastic job. He was quick, accurate, knowledgeable, and very pleasant to work with. Oh, and he did this all on Super Bowl Sunday! I highly recommend him. read more

John was great. Very detail oriented. He gave us suggestions about arrangements and placement of several of our pieces and made many improvements over what we had been thinking. When we differed from his advice, he was fine with going with our opinions. He's also very personable. I would recommend him highly. read more

TL;DR: John is a phenomenal handyman with appropriate interjections of his own (excellent) artistic sense who makes himself readily available at a completely reasonable price. Longer version: I had inquired with John concerning the price of his services a few weeks before we accessed his services. We had five large pieces of art we needed to hang (one of familial and intrinsic value of which we were highly concerned), along with a piece of metal wall art and a large, heavy, floating entertainment console - and he responded promptly with a quote. We delayed several weeks, reviewing other quotes and (to be fair) delaying the hanging of our pieces out of our own laziness. On Valentine's Day my mother-in-law informed us she would be visiting in 72 hours - which sped our search. John was not only receptive to the tight time constraints, he made himself available as early as possible (calling when another appointment ended early to inquire whether he may be useful earlier - which he was). When he arrived, he came completely outfitted to the job at hand and also provided valuable input as to how to hang (and in some cases re-hang) our pieces so that they would be most striking to our guests. He did so efficiently and well within his proscribed costs. While he won't prescribe a rate, for our locations in SF (and I know his cost varies upon travel time), he runs about $125/hr and I agree he's worth nothing less!!! read more

John is a pro and incredibly collaborative. His speed and quality results from his experience and toolkit. He helped us hang large and small art pieces, hooks, heavy mirror, etc. on plaster walls in an old SF home. I highly recommend John. read more

John is a terrific gem of a handyman! He installed a deadbolt on my back gate seamlessly and professionally. I also had 2 doors that needed adjustment and he planed them both effortlessly. The absolute BEST thing he did was fix my side metal gate by reinforcing the frame and hinge! Now we don't hear it slam whenever anyone needs to close it!! Sleeping like a baby! He's fast, reliable, responsive & professional. I will call him every time! read more

I called John last Thursday to help repair a door that had been kicked in. I was in a tight spot as I needed the door fixed before flying out the next day. I sent pictures of the door/frame, and he called me within 15 minutes to discuss. He provided me with a few options, and even showed up early knowing I had to leave for a trip. Extremely happy with the work he did. read more

John was awesome! While he wasn't available to come by the office in the time frame we needed, he gave me immensely valuable DIY info on a few of our problems. Helpful people like this don't come around a lot. Definitely send your business his way! read more

I had a couple dozen pictures to hang, ranging from very small to a big multi-panel screen that was over seven feet wide. John did an amazing job, no fuss no muss. I can very highly recommend. read more

John did an amazing job at our place - he put up about 10 pieces for us and every single one was perfect! I knew after the first piece that he was even more detail oriented than me so I knew I could just relax and know that the end result would be nothing short of perfect. Very nice guy and he was quick, definitely if you need anything done at your place, do not go to anybody else. read more

John did a great job hanging heavy duty floating wood shelves in my kitchen and art in several other rooms including one very large piece that needed earthquake-proof mounting. He responded very quickly and came within a couple of days, and the final charge was in line with the quote he gave me initially. I really appreciated his patience and expertise. He was very clear about which hardware he was using and exactly how many pounds the shelves could support in the way they were hung. He was fast, pleasant to work work with, and professional. read more

I messaged John and he responded almost immediately having already done some background research on my project. We chatted on the phone and he was able to give me a very clear idea of what the time and cost of the job would be. I'm looking forward to having him come do the work as soon as the custom parts arrive. I've also been very impressed by John's excellent advice and creative suggestions on a related project. He even pointed me to a solution that is hundreds of dollars cheaper than I had thought of and I could easily do myself! Thanks, John! read more

John is so kind, friendly, and comfortable to work with. And he works FAST! We're really glad to have hired John to help us hang some 20 lb. display cases, framed photos, and a 10 lb. mirror. He brought all the right hardware and equipment. We were afraid we were going to have to move our furniture, but John put us at ease by insisting he would work around them, and that his job was to inconvenience us as little as possible. When hanging our items, he was considerate in providing us with different options for stabilizing them, from least to most invasive. He provided some advice when I was unsure about what height to install a hook in our display case by factoring in gravity and stretch, and I'm glad I listened to him because our display is centered perfectly. He also helped us brace a shelf and made sure we understood how to unbrace it in the future. It's been a couple of weeks now, and I still admire the professional job he did hanging our items. John takes pride in his work, and we will definitely hire him in the future! read more

I called him to build a cabinet around our electrical boxes inside our front gate and he cut me off saying he does not do exterior work (which this is not) and as I tried to explain he hung up on me. read more

I was going to start my review by commenting on the great job that John did hanging art in our house-but it was so much more than that. The work he did was more of curating our house, and then hanging the art. In addition to the outstanding job he did hanging the art, he also made suggestions regarding art that was already on the walls - and all of his suggestions were so good that we made all those changes as well. Some of them seemed so obvious-once he made the suggestions, but in the 10 years we've been in our house we never once thought of any of his ideas. If you have an art hanging project, large or small, I can't recommend him enough. Also, if he makes suggestions that you don't think you like, you should think about it a bit more because he really has a great eye for what looks good. read more

I called John on a weekend to fix a broken gas heater. While he said that his main skill was carpentry and didn't want to sign up to disassemble a gas heater, he was able to correctly diagnose the problem over the phone, and told me who to call to fix it faster. Great experience. read more

I needed to get some art hung throughout my new house and had run out of luck finding anyone to help in time for my holiday party. John helped hang an oversized mirror in my apartment recently. I contacted him one morning and he was over at my apartment by afternoon that day hanging the mirror. John was super helpful and polite and did a great job. He brought with him several great tools that helped get the job done quickly and accurately. I would recommend John to anyone looking for an expert handyman who is fair, friendly and does a solid job. read more

Great customer service! John doesn't do the type of work I was looking for, but gave me lots of advice on how to do it myself.

Supremely helpful with a custom shelving project. Very knowledgeable and high attention to detail. Thank you, John.

PHENOMENAL WORK! John was so patient and helpful putting in my organization's glass logo. SO STRAIGHT & PERFECT!

John is fabulous. I've actually known him since he was a kid. He's prompt, efficient, clean, and responsible. Your phone calls will be returned, and the work will be accomplished as rapidly as possible. He's knowledgeable and can do just about everything -- and if there's no obvious solution -- John will create one. And it'll work well. He's also totally honest; you can leave him alone in your home and go off to work with confidence. In addition to bringing a full contractor's knowledge to these problems, John is artistic. He hangs art for me -- and it looks great! And his solutions to difficult problems look good as well. Try him! He's great! read more

John was quick to respond, very professional and does excellent work. Plus my dog loved him :). Highly recommended!

john came over to fix a cabinet that other's had tried over the past couple of years...it was done in a jiffie, and without my asking, he straightened a door that had settled in the house. Now John, very creative and exacting, is designing a modern outdoor trash enclosure for us -- next I'll ask him for some bookshelves in our son's room....he's very very good, honest, great craftsman, great ideas on how to do things! read more

I highly recommend John. He was incredibly responsive, professional, honest, knowledgeable and skilled. I reached out to John and he was quick to call me back. He asked questions to better understand what was needed, and clearly outlined what would be necessary to do to get the job done. His passion for his work, and his deep expertise, were immediately apparent, and he was even kind enough to spend time brainstorming solutions to other home repair needs that I had, one of which he even described (step by step!) how I could fix it myself for a fraction of the cost! I will not hesitate to call him again for any future needs. read more
