José is very nice and a great listener. My fiancé and I reached out to him as we're going through renovation and we're interested in saving about 20 solid wood doors from a house built in 1909. This is not an easy task. Throughout the planning process, José took his time to understand what we're looking for and came up with a game plan to coordinate with our builder to save the doors. read more

Jose and his team did a great job patching drywall and painting. I wish I'd take before photos, but I've included after photos and you can't tell where the repair is. I had two big holes where my towel bar came out of the wall in the bathroom and a foot-long piece of drywall cut out to fix an electrical outlet in the bedroom. Now there is no sign of either. Great work! read more

Great service. They came within the hour after I called and repaired a broken bed frame.

Jose and his team did an incredible work in our house. We needed to update a very old fireplace and replace railing on the small balcony that was rotting. Our previous contractor who did major remodel in my place gave extremely expensive quote, and Jose did the repairs for a very reasonable price. The quality of the job is excellent, they did repairs in 3 days total. We will definitely use this company again. Highly recommend. read more

Jose and his crew are fantastic! He replaced my rotted front door sill and fixed the sidelight that had slipped out of place as a result. He and his crew also replaced the rotted boards on my small deck, so now I don't have to worry about falling through it when I step out my back door! He was communicative, thorough, reasonably priced, quick, and pleasant to work with. I am looking forward to the next project! And the next... read more

Would give this zero stars if possible. I scheduled them to come out and assess pricing for a few small projects. 5 minutes past the appointment time I texted the number to ask how far out they were and in response received a butchered text message that stated "Sorry I need to cancel I some problems to get there ". I would not trust someone to complete home projects if they can't ask to reschedule an appointment in a timely manner. Very very unprofessional. read more

Jose and Elber did an awesome job building a climbing wall for my kid. They removed moulding, and built and installed a support frame and plywood facing. They helped me map out a grid of holes for the T-nuts that support the climbing holds, and they attached the T-nuts. Their work was precise and got done quicker than expected. Jose was very kind and made sure we achieved our goal. Thanks so much!! read more

Finally! Found a terrific, reliable, honest, and an overall nice contractor who is very knowledgeable and willing to work with you through any issue. I can't speak highly enough about Jose and his crew. They showed up on time, and worked diligently to get the task completed. Jose is a lifesaver. I am a personal concierge and home project manager, and a client desperately needed several items done on an urgent timeline. I needed a "handyman" to help me fix up some issues in a recently vacated 2/1 duplex. Searching for one on line can be very difficult as some web site or another is trying to lead you off into their little pocket to some inappropriate vendor/contractor. Jose of JE Carpentry sounded just right. It was not a huge contract: sanding and staining a teal deck, interior painting, repairing screens in a wood frame. Jose and his crew took care of my needs quickly and did an excellent job. I highly recommend him and will look to him the next time I need any such work done. read more

Jose and his team did a great job on rebuilding my dilapidated backyard fence. It was complicated because the old fence was built on top of a cinder block wall and there was no access from the neighbor's house. Jose took care of everything: getting the materials, the work itself and hauling away the debris from the old fence. It took them a day and a half which, considering the issues above, I thought was quite fast. See the photo below. read more

Jose is a total professional. We rehired him for some more work, asking him to replace a window and door in our basement where the frames were heavily affected by dry rot. Jose's quote was reasonable and he did outstanding work. We had to specially order our door and Jose really helped me get the order exactly right so it could be installed without issue. I seriously love this guy, he's my first call for carpentry and other handyman work around the house. read more

Jose and his assistant did a variety of jobs for me and they did excellent work. I highly recommend them. They communicated well, showed up when they said they would, made any little adjustments I requested and stayed within the agreed-upon budget. Work they did : sanded and painted outdoor stairs, replaced a rotting wood gatepost that had to be set in cement and re-attached the gate door to it, modified and installed a re-used folding sliding door (not an easy job!), hung two lights, installed a TP dispenser and replaced a failed water pump in our toilet tank. read more

During the busy year-end holiday, JE came out to give me an estimate on replacing my front door. He showed up on time, took measurements and provided an estimate on cost and timeline. Jose and his team tackled the complicated job of building and installing custom cabinets (partially original, partially new) after a major flood in our apartment, and we were blown away by their skill and professionalism! In addition to the cabinets, the team was able to expertly handle a variety of other jobs post-restoration, such as re-installing appliances, outlets, and doors; building custom drawers to match pieces that could no longer be purchased; and painting and installing baseboards. It was extremely convenient to hire one team with such varied expertise rather than juggling multiple different contractors. Jose is genuine, honest, and provides unbeatable value while delivering excellent service and luxury craftsmanship. His guys are kind, hardworking, trustworthy, and a pleasure to work with. They will be our go-to contractors from here on out!! Thank you Jose and team! read more

Incredible work! Jose can do it all, from small repairs to large projects. His most recent project for me was a new redwood deck for my backyard. In less than two weeks he was able to source the material, build the entire deck, and apply a nice sealer that brings out the natural color of the redwood. His prices are fair and he will work with you through any concerns or questions you have. I will continue to hire him for many projects to come! read more

Jose and his two assistants fixed a lot of dry rot in my house. Jose is so honest and kind and reliable. What a find! Knows his stuff, reliable, great communicator and respectful. I found him on NextDoor but felt like I had to share him with more people. He repaired cracks in our old and expensive wood doors, painted and then went onto a deck project. I'm keeping his name in my VIP list! read more

Contacted Jose for a few small projects (replace a backdoor metal gate, replace the 3 step backyard staircase and repainting of the wood garage door after reviewing other reviews. Jose agreed to meet to provide an estimate but did not show up on the agreed upon time. I had to text Jose as he must have forgotten our appointment and agreed to show up later in the day. We agreed on the price for the projects and I also asked him to fill out the W9 form for our accountant. Jose agreed that he will have the W9 form at the start of the project. However, when the project started, there was no W9 form and he kept saying that he will have it by the end of the project. When the project was completed 3 1/2 days later, Jose still did not have the completed W9 form even though I have paid Jose in full for the work that was completed. It has now been 3 weeks and I still have not received the W9 from Jose even though I have tried to contact Jose almost every day and Jose will not even respond to my text or phone calls. I "DO NOT RECOMMEND" J E Carpentry & Handy Man for any projects as I do not think he is ethical as he does not want to provide me with the provided W9 form even though he agreed to it from the start. read more
