I had no idea what I was expecting until I visited the location. I haven't been in the Kakaako area often and I thought I might get lost. Parking, is either street, and I'm assuming the lot besides the location is open for customers to use? From the lot, it's the first small shop, at the corner of the building on Auahi Street. The shop is so adorable, its like a mini plant museum. How could anyone walk out without purchasing anything?! At first I didn't know what was appropriate to touch or which was for sale or not. We were looking for a present to give a co-worker; along with that I wanted to purchase a gift for my dad. Instead of picking a plant that was already pre-made, the worker gave us the option to make our own. Their DIY section is in it's own area with different selections (sand, rocks, bowls, moss, etc.). Prices are labeled, if not the worker will tell you, along with pointing out the different items there are to create your own. I noticed a lot of their decor and other items hidden in their furniture, books and spray bottles. Where to begin!? 1st off two thumbs high up for the team at Paiko. I recently planned a private workshop for my wife's bday with her GFs. I initially inquired via email thru Yelp and Instantly I got a response from Jessica. She broke everything down for me, and explained the private workshop thoroughly. I loved the idea that besides a "get your hands dirty" workshop they could actually enjoy it with refreshments and pupus(which the customer provides themselves) and also add our own decorations for the event. I instantly knew this was the perfect small venue for my wife's bday. You have a variety of workshops to choose from, but initially went with the succulent because I wanted to keep it a surprise and knew my wife has been into those as of late. As the date neared, the surprise cover was blown, but was for the better, because now I realized my wife wanted to do a floral crown workshop. When I contacted Jessica & Cherish they were able to change it even though it was just 3 days out. My next option was I could choose between having the workshop during normal business hours or after. I opted for after, so the ladies would have the full privacy feel. Each time I went to the shop to put deposit and pay for balance, The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Cherish. Even though I could've have just did those over the phone, I wanted to see store and meet some of the people there. I received a courtesy reminder email from Jessica the day prior, and on the day of, my wife and her besties told me nothing but GREAT things about the experience and Courtney the workshop coordinator, whom I also think is the owner, not too sure. But my wife LOVED it!! they all had a GREAT & FUN time making their own floral crowns, while enjoying their "Girl Time" together. MAHALO!!! to all at Paiko who helped make this couple of hours memorable for my wife and friends., and with making it a VERY easy experience for me on setting this up. I came to Paiko on the Valentine's Day, "Celebracion del Amor" event, where there were mini-workshop stations to create something of your own without having to pay the workshop prices. Some of the workshops were the terrarium or terra cotta area where you could use succulents or air plants, a pin making area, a bouquet arranging area, and even a perfume area. This was great! It was awesome to experience the different aspects of Paiko all at once. I love the terra cotta pot and succulent arrangement I made! I display it on my desk where I receive countless compliments and it's easy because they're so easy to take care of. Little water and lots of sun light is what sold me on the succulents. The owners of Paiko are very nice and helplful! When I was lost at one of the stations they were happy to help guide me through the processes. The atmosphere is light and welcoming, and the coffee they offer is a winner as well! I would definitely recommend coming into the shop whether to get coffee, buy some flowers, or make an awesome terrarium! read more

If the "new" Kaka'ako is going to be filled with stores like Paiko, then Kaka'ako is where you will find me once it's all said and done. My office used to share the same space as Paiko, before they completed their recent and stunningly beautiful remodel and I would drool over the clean, modern and simple "living" decor that would fill their shop. If you are the type to not only love plants, but also can appreciate design, then you will love Paiko. The plants and the vessels that house them here at Paiko will make your home, office, or space look like you have an interior design degree. It's amazing how the plants and decor that I have purchased from Paiko, really add to the overall look of my home. It adds an earthy warmth with a modern touch. And what's even better, is that many of the air plants, and flowers from Paiko need very little care. In fact, I've killed my first couple of air plants because of OVER care and excessive watering. My 6 year old daughter LOVES their DIY terrarium "bar" where she can pick from colorful gravel, tiny shells, cute plastic animals, "gold" rocks, colored moss and more to create her own little air plant kingdom. Recently when she was asked what she wanted for her 6th birthday, she replied "I want to go to Paiko and make a terrarium!" That's how much she loves it here. And I don't blame her. Disclaimer: I am OBSESSED with succulents. Like majorly OBSESSED. My obsession is so bad, my bf threatens to throw away my overflowing succulent collection because it's taking over our entire patio. But I don't care. It makes me happy. Paiko has been a treasure trove of adorable vases, terraniums and hard to find succulents and air plants in Hawaii. I've lovingly received gifts (thanks boss, friends and bf!) and purchased several different arrangements as well as bought a few replacement plants. The gals at Paiko are just the sweetest, always happy to help and provide answers to any green thumb questions you may have. The prices can be a little high for certain items, but for the hard-to-find-OMG-this-is-so-cute factor, it's totally worth it. Paiko combines two of my favorite things: botanical décor and diy. Whenever I want to give a gift to someone, I try to create a living arrangement that can be enjoyed for longer than a bouquet of flowers. When I stepped foot into Paiko, I immediately felt inspired. It's not a very large space, but it has a beautiful design aesthetic and a carefully curated display of succulents and tropical plants, cut flowers, planters, and décor. The diy terrarium bar and workspace for classes made me feel a bit jealous of the owners for being able to bring a passion and dream to life. There's even an amazing café sharing the same space that I could totally eat at every day! The reason why I gave 3 stars and not 4 or 5 is because I will probably never buy anything from the store. While the store has everything I would ever imagine to include in my creations and it's all available in the same space, the prices are a lot higher than I am used to paying. Yes, I know they have to run a business and pay what is probably a ridiculously high rent to be in that area, but parking is a hassle and I try to save money where I can since I also have to suffer the high costs to live in this paradise. For example, I bought a pink grafted cactus from Ko'olau Farmers, another local company, for $6 and the same exact plant was $9 at Paiko. While I truly admire the concept and beautiful display, this store will only be a museum to gather inspiration from for me. I had no idea low maintenance plants (other than cactus) even existed! I came here to find some indoor plants to spruce up my boring dorm room. They have a DIY terrarium bar, pre-made succulent arrangements, and separate pots so you can make your own small arrangements. I bought 2 pre-made arrangements and made one myself at the terrarium bar. The store has a very nice, hip setup--very boutique like and not like a typical florist shop. Tons of street parking in front of the store as well as on the surrounding streets. Go eat at Whole Ox while you're in the area! Crossing my fingers that I can keep these plants alive. *update*. I took the succulent workshop and it's so worth it! It's $40 all inclusive, and comes with a choice of ceramic pot, soil, charcoal, assortment of decorative rocks, plastic animal and hula girl figurines, and 5 succulent plants (choose from a variety, including cactus!). If you were to pay for all of these separately from Paiko they would come out to more than $40. It's $35 if you bring your own container, but if you were to buy the containers separately from Paiko they're worth about $15-20--so just get the container. :). Another adventure with my best friend turned out to be a success! This was the best shopping experience of my life. I think I'm going to come here once every week to destress at Paiko. To start out, my friend and I were greeted right away when we stepped through the doors. The woman who greeted us and helped us the entire way was named Courtney. She was awesome and knowledgeable. She told me which air plants thrived in low light, and which ones need sun light. Then she talked to me about each of the fillings for my glass terrarium, and then walked my friend through her plant selection. My friend went with a some baby ferns that required actual soil, whereas mine being an air plant did not need soil to thrive. Everything I put into my terrarium was purely decorational. Courtney was great, and I listened to her as she helped other customers as well. She's very passionate about what she does, and I feel that makes for a quality experience with every customer. As she rang us out, she noticed that my friend's glass vessel had something like a scratch on it that didn't seem to go away, even though it looked to me like it could have been erased with some elbow grease. Because of this, she gave my friend a BEAUTIFUL flower! She didn't have to do that! I took some pictures of the flower, and Courtney decided to give one to me too cause she didn't want me to feel left out. That was seriously so sweet of her, and she really did not have to do that. ONE-LINE: [Workshop Review] So much fun! Amazing instructors, beautiful workspace. Absolutely in love with the finished product! KOKEDAMA: I like that it started later in the evening (630PM and ran for an hour) so there was enough time to get home, change your clothes into something you don't mind smudging dirt on, and then mosey around Salt while your instructor gets the materials ready. My Mom and I took the Kokedama workshop taught by Jessica--she was awesome! We had a really good time. Instructions were really clear and easy to follow, lots of cool information. I thought it was the perfect blend of instruction and independence. The workshop is held in that little workspace behind Paiko's cashier space. It can feel a bit close at times but none of us minded--there was enough workspace for everyone to maneuver comfortably (or spread out for some parts) and it was fun to talk-story with the group while we worked. PAIKO: The store itself is so beautiful--it's like walking through my Pinterest board in real-life. Lots of reclaimed wood (there's a succulent/air plant bar!), locally created pottery, geometric terrariums... The cost of plants and home goods can be a bit pricey but I like to remind myself that a good portion of their goods are locally sourced. My fave local non-plant goods are the Notted Nest macramé pieces and the adorable clay figures and plant holders by Antidee. They also carry some really beautiful jewelry from Catherine Weitzman. P.S. It's always fun to visit Paiko's shared-space neighbors, Milo Hawaii and Arvo Café. At night, for the workshop, we got lucky with street parking right on Auahi but parking in the structure is easy! Don't forget your validation. There were 3 employees inside while I was shopping and none of them acknowledged me for the entire 10-minutes. It wasn't until I went to check out and audibly placed my items on the counter that they looked up from their gossip session to ring me up. i think this is one of my favorite places in the whole world. HYPES: everyone's so great and friendly. the store itself is beautiful and right when you walk in, you feel a bit cooler just by being there. lol lots of great selections when it comes to succulents! there's a creation station with a bunch of stones and little garden toys to pimp out your plants! i just love it! they teach you all about care and even give you pointers on how to configure your arrangements. my coworker and i were just talking about how we need a succulent for work and i coincidentally drew his name during our secret santa last december. so of course, i couldn't wait to give him his new baby, which he named "cac-toose" i made myself one of course, two plants and named mine "bossy and saucy" 8) GRIPES: homegirl told me "cac-toose" would flower and the flowers would be spiky. but my coworker and i looked up his succulent and we couldn't find one that was full grown with flowers. bummer! i think i wanna go back and get him a different plant. also, the vases are pretty pricy. for his little baby pot, i spent $16. not that i'm hating on that or anything, but geeeeez...! wish they had more of a variety last christmas, but i'm still super happy with everything i've made and arranged. read more

This place is life!! It reminds me of maybe a boutique I would see in LA or maybe even Seattle.. but packed with Tropical Flowers! The shop itself looks small but it's very roomy and very inviting (if that makes sense). My friend and I got to be a part of a Haku Workshop featuring Meleana. I've been IG stalking her for months and just enjoy her work. I had some time to browse around the store and did see some Succulent plants that I decided to give out as Mother Day gifts (my Boss, my coworkers and friends who are parents). Courtney was the first person who helped me and I thought she was the sweetest. Went over how to care for the plants and during the workshop constantly asked if we needed anything or even made small talk, which made us feel very comfortable.. later I found out that she was co-owner of Paiko :) I do recommend attending the workshops. It's so fun to just stay after hours and relax and DIY with the girls (and some guys). Meleana did do a wonderful job at teaching the workshop and encouraging us with our projects! I live in Waimanalo so I'm blessed to be so close to a lot of Nursery's that carry Succulents and flowers at decent prices but Paiko is literally smackdab in the new development of Kakaako so I'm sure their rent is high which is something to consider why their prices are a bit higher. I had this establishment bookmarked for weeks and due to my work schedule, it was difficult to get there before they close! But yesterday, it worked out perfectly for my boyfriend and I. We made it to the location with 45 minutes to spare which was more than enough time to create our own little arrangement! We chose a glass bowl, with small rocks, two little tillandsia plants and small pieces of moss (which cost around $45). We were immediately greeted while we walked in but wasn't offered any aid at the workstation which is fine because there's a sign that tells you what to do and how much everything costs (but it still would be nice to have a person explain it to you). Besides tillandsias, they have succulents, locally grown flowers, and a small coffee shop in the corner. This place is a fun location to go with your significant other or girlfriends! This place would be a great florist to get small gifts (for any occasion) even though its costly, it adds more value because you create your own arrangement from scratch! I fell in love with Paiko the moment I walked in, and I will definitely will be back. read more

If you're in need of DIY succulents arrangement / terrarium supply, Paiko is the place. A lady who helped me was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. This review is for their customer service. I'm completely puzzled. I'm planning an event, I need florals for 2K and Paiko is the perfect match design wise. I email, I call, but nothing. The owner, Tamara, must be a ghost. The girl in the shop was very sweet and apologetic and I got a sense that this was not the first time someone complained about the ghost's lack of accountability. Very unprofessional. Very disappointing. She's lucky she's in Hawaii. I'm used to hustling New Yorker who may not be as sweet, but they get shit done. read more

I always admired Paiko's pretty plants and arrangements, but never purchased anything. This past weekend I was invited to a friend's birthday party at Paiko, so I was excited to see what we were going to do. Courtney was really friendly and nice. She explained what succulents were and that they don't need a lot of water and like to have some sunlight (but not direct). We put cinders the bottom of the pot, and then a layer of soil. We then chose 5 succulents to put in our pot and then were able to decorate with colorful rocks/sands/beads. The most interesting thing was to see how each of ours looked completely different and matched our personalities. It was a really fun class and a nice thing to do with a bunch of girlfriends! read more

I called today to try and order a special arrangement for a significant life event and I was rudely dismissed and told that it would be "easier" if I just went online. Well, I did go online -- to Paiko's instagram -- and left my thoughts on how disappointing I thought this customer service was. Their response? To delete my comment. Beautiful flowers but sadly very poor customer service. For Mother's Day they advertised flowers available for pick-up in addition to their pre-orders so I drove down there on my lunch break. I even messaged them on IG and they confirmed flowers were available to buy. Well I parked, walked up and their was a sign in their window that no flowers were available to buy. I decided to walk in just to make sure and ask. The girl I spoke with confirmed no flowers and then another woman came over and said in a very snotty tone, sorry our shipments didn't come in there's nothing we can do. She was obviously not sorry. I understand the circumstances were out of their control, but their attitude about it was very rude. A simple apology for not notifying customers would have been sufficient. read more

My friends and I discovered this shop on my way to the Honolulu Night Market next door. It's a discovery that came at a perfect time for me. Since I've started decorating my apartment this month, I've been open to home decor ideas, including the use of plants. We were intrigued with how Paiko demonstrates different ways plants and flowers can be displayed in the home. For instance, they sell these round, flat wall decor objects...then we realized they were actually vases! I also recognized their beautiful succulent terrariums and ornaments; I believe they're the same ones sold at Whole Foods. Paiko also sells airplants individually for $7 each--perfect since I wanted one to put in a glass bowl I had at home. Most, if not all, of the plants sold here are locally sourced. According to an employee, Paiko's succulents are grown in Waimanalo. All the price signs I noticed mentioned where each plant came from. If memory serves me right, the bundle of cypress I bought came from Pahoa. Their plants are also easy to maintain, said one employee. Another plus! Speaking of their employees, they were friendly, conversational and helpful, despite the uptick in visitors from the Night Market. Keep up the great work! We'll definitely be coming back. read more

I called to place an order and the customer service was atrocious. The man was very condescending and literally laughed at me when I said my budget was $75. He did not work with me to find other options but rather addressed me as if I were not worthy of their product. You can most definitely find better quality product around the island. There are other local florists where you get more bang for your buck. read more

Paiko is my go-to for Hawaiian​ plants. The store is small​ but is filled to the brim with beautiful foliage​. It is a little expensive compared to other places you may find that sell similar plants. However, the store sometimes as very unique plants like coconuts you can grow and mothers day bouquets made of Hawaiian​ plants. For small plants such as succulents​, I do not recommend​​ going here. They are very expensive compared to Home Depot read more

Not a florist, but a botanical boutique. Great art pieces made from nature! I've picked up a cute piece, it was simple and yet very cute! My friend loved it! It was a protea with sprays of long stem leaves. I really want a terrarium! Actually, a mini one that they had way back. I hope they'll bring those back. At the beginning of July, Laurie signed us up for the succulent garden class as an early birthday gift. Laurie: we should sign up for this class! Me: no! I kill cactus! Plants come to my house to die! Laurie: too late! I signed us up! For $40 you get the walk through of setting up your mini succulent garden, the supplies of rocks, soil, pot, and 5 succulents of your choice. It was so much fun! I think it's because I love succulents! I love the mini garden I had made. So far, it's surviving! It was the best birthday gift I got! I have to thank my other half for introducing me to Paiko. A few months ago he gifted me with the sweetest little Paiko plant and vase and registered us for an upcoming Succulent Workshop. Of course I was gushing over this sweet gift and couldn't wait to go check out this store for myself. As soon as I stepped foot in this botanical boutique I was hooked. Paiko is filled with all sorts of beautiful succulent plants, gardening essentials, and other cute things you won't realize that you need until you see them. I'm obsessed with succulents--which probably has something to do with the fact that they are pretty resilient, even when put in the hands of chronic plant murderers like myself--so to me this store is completely amazing. The store owners, Tamara and Courtney, are really great and willing to help you with any questions you may have. You can tell that this store is close to their hearts by the way that they interact with visitors. Thumbs up for great customer service! As for the Succulent Workshop, both my hubby and I really enjoyed it and had a great time creating our own mini succulent garden to take home. I would recommend this as a unique date idea, girlfriend outing, or even a solo venture. You can find out what types of workshops they have coming up by visiting their website.
