Was gifted a beautiful Hilo maile and pikake triple twist from here: excellent quality and workmanship! Nice service, fresh flowers!

Nuuanu Memorial recommended this place for the flowers for my dad's funeral. I called them and told them I was looking for flowers for a funeral. They told me to go down to the flower shop to see them. I went down there and they asked me when I needed the flowers. I needed the flowers in eight days which was kind of tight, especially since it was near Christmas. However, they accommodated me. They had a book of photos of casket flowers. I picked an arrangement that was white, yellow and green. I wanted yellow roses, but they couldn't get it in such short notice. It was $240 as were most of the casket flowers. Delivery and setup is already included in the price. The best part is that the guy knows how to write Chinese characters to display on the flowers. When I got there on the day of the funeral, the flowers were already beautifully set up. When I took a closer look, there were many yellow roses as I had wanted. Thank you! read more

Whenever I want to go to the graveyard to visit my mom, grandparents, or my uncle & auntie, I'm pretty lucky as I have a variety of plants & flowers in our yard, so I normally don't have to buy flowers. Why am I at M. P. Lei Shop then??? Because I actually needed flowers. Buwahahahahaha!!! I had just visited my mom & grandparents the week before, so most of the flowers and plants in our yard were cut, and when I needed more flowers, I realized I didn't have enough. Pops wanted to go to the graveyard again this week because he told me it was the week of "Ching Ming". Honestly, if he didn't tell me that, I wouldn't even know. What do you do when you need additional flowers? You head on down to Chinatown & hit up M. P. Lei Shop! By the time I came here in the late afternoon on a Sunday, the flower selections were pretty wiped out, but I did managed to find two beautiful bundles of flowers. Each long stem bundle was just $7.00 bucks! Can we say DEALAGES Yo!!! Service here was friendly & appreciative. I asked the man who was manning the flower shop if he could shorten the flower stems, which he gladly obliged. I like this flower shop, and should I ever need to buy flowers again, I'm coming back to M. P. Lei Shop. read more

Rather than driving all the way down to the lei stands at HNL, or going to the grocery store for a lei. I decided to make a stop after my workout and swing by Chinatown. I had just finished that afternoon and went to nearby Maunakea Street and seen a street parking immediately available. It was right in the heart of many shops, restaurants and lei stands. I wanted the least expensive non-orchid lei for a dual birthday party I was attending last Saturday night. Already knowing both celebrants were most likely be wearing tons of lei, it wasn't necessary to buy the most extravagant high ticket lei. The first store that stood out to me was M P Lei Shop as it was on the corner of Pauahi & Maunakea Street. Several lei were already on hold for other prepaying customers, I seen two available at a reasonable price. I felt like I was in a safe, small, quaint store and it's great that the shop has a credit card terminal without added credit card fees. I quickly made my purchase and the lady genuinely thanked me for my business. She offered a plastic bag, which wasn't necessary as each lei was already in a plastic container.. It wasn't crowded, and I feel much safer when the shopkeepers are working during daylight hours. I'd return for another lei for another special occasion if the timing is right since the price is also right. read more

Located at the corner of Mauna Kea Chinatown, owned by a sweet lady, and have the most reasonably priced and freshest flowers from Haku's, Lei's, and bouquet of flowers. I highly recommend as you get the most value for your buck. They have quality flowers used and creations in comparison to others I've purchased from. I genuinely appreciate how kind the customer service is as well. 100/10 recommend and will definitely be back again as my go-to place for any flowers going forward. read more

I don't know how many times I've passed by M P Lei Shop (MP). They've been in business for about 25 years and at one point, I'd pass by their shop several times a week. Many times I'd witness impressive grand opening floral arrangements and funeral wreaths with banners in either English or Chinese, bunches of local tropical flowers and spring flowers. Eye catching. Located on the DH corner of Maunakea Street and Pauahi Street, MP offers a large variety of leis, leipo'o (flower crowns), fresh cut spring and tropical flowers. They also offer assorted arrangements, bouquets, and wristlets. MP is owned and operated by husband and wife, Sam and Mimi Say. There are so many lei shops within walking distance and what draws me to MP are: 1) impressive floral display and 2) warm customer service. I was exposed and pretty much raised in the floral industry, so I have a good understanding of leis and flowers. Most recently, I came to MP on New Year's Day to pick-up fresh cut flowers for the grave, along with food to offer. I must have missed the foot traffic rush as the inventory on cut flowers was on the low side. Luckily, I picked up several bunches each of tropical and spring flowers, and a bunch of white mums. I still had errands to run so I pre-paid for my flowers and came back later in the morning to pick-up as I didn't want the flowers sitting in my car as I had to be on the road. When I met up with my family at the gravesite, they commented on my flowers. From the consumer's point of view, prices are reasonable, and you generally have a variety to choose from. I also like to glance at their extensive lei display as they carry local seasonal favorites of pikake, pakalana, ginger and tuberose leis. I also noticed they also ship leis to the mainland via FedEx so if you're looking to send flowers to family or friends, this is a plus. Just like any consumer, I tend to walk up and down Maunakea Street to check out the lei shops but when it comes to getting flowers for the grave, MP is my go-to place. read more

Shopping for a lei po'o in Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii... Lei po'o is a garland of flowers for the head. A haku lei is one that is woven (as opposed to one that is strung through the middle of the flower with thread). In my opinion, it takes a lot of patience to make a haku lei. The gathering and prepping of the flowers and ferns takes so much time. It's worth it to just buy a lei po'o! Last month, Paul was teasing Peter about buying a lei po'o since Paul and I had bought head garlands for recent graduations. Peter said that he didn't have occasion for such a purchase. I suggested that Peter get one for a dear friend whose birthday we were to celebrate soon. Lightbulb!!! Peter agreed to meet in Chinatown before the gathering at 9am. Well... Our first choice of lei shop was closed - even though the sign stated that opening time is 8am. We went next door to M P Lei Shop and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise! Situated on the corner of Pauahi Street and Maunakea Street, M P Lei Shop seems to have more variety of cut flowers, lei for the head, and lei that circles the neck. The prices seemed better than our original store, so... We were very happy! Service was efficient and polite! There were a few customers ahead of us. Workers remained calm and helpful! When our turn arrived, we were reassured that the products were freshly made by this shop! I saw employees stringing flowers on a table to the side... Impressive! I highly recommend M P Lei Shop for your future celebrations. If you have an upcoming birthday, graduation, wedding, promotion, retirement, anniversary, etc., consider gifting a lei. It's a unique Hawaiian custom that has a special meaning... Aloha! read more

First of all, don't leave the freezer door open! Second, I love this shop. I go to a few shops in the area and the service is always good, but what sets M.P. apart from the rest is one, the answer their phone (ha!), two, the quality of the pikāke, and three, I love the folx who work here. Always friendly. Pricing is also good. As is the case downtown, parking can be a hassle, but easy to find a meter near the store or up the street. Can do the municipal lots too (though I prefer to keep the sides of my car dent and scratch free). Will be back again soon. read more

I've been coming here for years since my job is based in the downtown Chinatown area. The flowers are fresh and the leis are beautiful. My first place choice for any occasion that a lei would make it extra special. For this past Mother's Day I was able to find a gorgeous haku lei for my mom at a reasonable price. When I gave it to my elderly mother, the lei made her beam with happiness that it just warmed my heart. The power of beautiful flowers is an amazing thing. The couple that owns/runs the shop are very hardworking and soooooo friendly. That's why I keep coming back every time. read more

Dear Heavens! They have absolutely AMAZING impromptu service. Their craftsmanship is always above expectation and with every flower piece they make you find a new unique design. I've stopped by several times for proms and high school dancing events for corsages and they always show up to the challenge. In terms of price they're perfectly in the middle, for what they present they're worth. This isn't a flower shop that'll leave you with a hole in your wallet. I'm beyond impressed and they have a great welcoming, kind presence. I'm definitely coming back for sure. read more

An overdue review.. My son had a May Day function that of course he told me last minute that he needed a pink rose ti leaf or maile lei. Tried other shops but they declined to help me. I went to this shop and explained my predicament and the owner was very helpful. He stopped what he was doing (making a different lei) and went to making the lei I needed straightaway. The lei was beautiful and I was so thankful that he was willing to help me out in a bind. The May Day performance was literally the next day. I would highly recommend this florist. They had lots of other beautiful leis and hakus in the showcase. Will definitely be back again and have the rest of my florist needs done with this great local shop! read more

Wonderful inexpensive flowers sitting in store front. They also make to order. However, variety is limited.

Great service, selection, and value. Quality flowers and great prices. Always willing to help and recommend for all!

This shop is a cute corner shop in downtown. There were many flower shops around but we chose this shop as it is very close to the parking lot and convenient for a quick floral stop. We were running late to purchase a corsage for our little sister before heading to prom but with the help of the owners, we got what we wanted in a short matter of time. This corsage took them less than 20 minutes to put together and their service was lovely. Although $30 might be pricey for a corsage, I knew it was what I had to deal with for not ordering ahead of time! read more

Always consistent and great service. Been going here for years, always my go to spot.

There are many lei shops in Chinatown to choose from but I try to support all of them! M.P. Lei Shop is on the corner of Maunakea and N. Pauahi right next to the municipal parking lot. There is also street parking if you're lucky enough to snag one. Their flowers were beautiful and fresh. They had a variety of tropical flowers and arrangements to choose from for only $10 (torch ginger, honeycomb white ice calathea, heliconia + more!). They also have a variety of leis available, perfect for any occasion. As I was casually walking in Chinatown, I purchased a simple arrangement of tropical flowers that caught my eye. All it needed was a quick trim, some additional anthurium and foliage, and it was ready to go into a vase. They do take card (visa and MasterCard from what I remember) but they do ask you spend a minimum of $10. The bouquet I got was $10 so it was perfect since I didn't have any cash on me. The lady checking me out was also very appreciative of me supporting their shop which made the purchase 100x more satisfying. read more

I have been coming to this lei stand for years and have nothing but good feelings about this place. Sam and Mimi are the best.

This lei shop is the one at the very end of Maunakea street, facing Mauka side on the corner. My lei strategy is to hit every lei shop and browse the different flowers and prices before circling back to the one I want. On a Friday, the leis sell out pretty fast. And to my surprise, after graduation, the prices start to incline.. The owner was very sweet and let me put some lei po'o's against my forehead while my friend snapped a picture so I could see what it looks like. Since this is my last stop before I finally made a decision, these lei po'o's came in second place out of my choices, so I haven't been lucky in that department. But I was able to get a few nice flowered leis for college and high school graduates. read more

My new go to! I was shopping around Chinatown for haku leis and was going to buy one at the typical shop I go to. However, I stumbled across this shop and they have a great selection for affordable prices! I bought 2 haku leis for $10-15 less (each) than my usual place would have costed. The older lady worker was so sweet and thanked me many times for my purchase. She also gave me a free (thin fabric? but better than plastic) bag for my leis. She was so nice! I hope this shop gets lots of business, and I plan to go back for more leis! read more

They always have my back for fresh and amazing lei. Because asking with your standards strands, they'll have intricate and extravagant as well. 5/5 for everything. Except maybe cleanliness/organization of the shop, but it is Chinatown so you can't expect much. They have very fair prices and have a great amount of availability. Other shops couldn't offer me a day of ti leaf "maile." Although they freeze their ti leaf, it does the job! It's full and not skimpy (I really dislike the skimpy leis). They also take preorders for anything you may need. Super friendly! And helpful. They are willing to answer any questions you may have and reserve any leis that you want. By far my favorite lei shop on Maunakea st in Chinatown. I will definitely be back here. read more
