Just wanted to give a shoutout to all the lei vendors in Chinatown, especially Tina's, who make graduations and other special events in Hawaii memorable. Tina's has become my favorite lei vendor and will only be going to her in the future. She is so kind and helpful. I was going to a graduation ceremony on the mainland and wanted to bring a lei po'o and lei. Tina was knowledgeable about what could/couldn't pass agriculture. There were certain beautiful lei with the green sea grape that is not allowed to fly. I ended up picking out a beautiful lei po'o with pinkish/purple orchids, babies breath, and fern, which was $45. I also purchased a pinkish orchid lei. I asked her if she'd be able to change the ribbon color to match the school graduation color. She was able to do that no problem, so I really appreciate her doing this! Since it's was UH graduation the same weekend, she was not taking pre orders. She advised me to come early in the morning, and it wouldn't be a problem. Her staff is constantly making leis in the back. When it comes to where to get a leii n China town there are alot of shops all crowded into one block but the one that really stood out to us was Tina's. Her shop was organized and clean and she greets her customers with warmth and is friendly. She was also very patient and polite (unlike some of her competitors) and very honest. We already selected a Lei and was going to buy another set of flowers from her to add to a memorial and she could have easily sold us it but she told us no need buy another set because it was kind of redundant to the one we had already selected. I'm a displaced Hawaiian now living in SF Bay Area and I have Tina's on speed dial when I need leis (especially hakus) for special occasions. Staff is very helpful and spot on with their delivery to the mainland. Admittedly, it helps to know what you're looking for because their website is non-existent and online photos don't do their inventory justice. In February 2021, I came across this lei shop looking for a haku and maile lei to bring to the mainland. The gentlemen was kind enough to answer and advise what kind I could take through department of Agriculture and would be best for presentation since our event wasn't til another 4 days. He took the time to inspect his maile leis and picked out the most promising one. He even gave directions on how to keep the haku lei fresh and even prepared it for the flight. Kindness went a long way. Not knowing what the future brings, we had to prepare for 3 Funerals, and 1 wedding within a year from 2021-2022. The owner and her husband are so friendly. It was so easy to order wristlets and boutenniers for prom. Shopping for a flower lei in Chinatown, Honolulu... I needed a lei (flower garland) to bring to the mainland and I almost bought one from Tina's Lei Shop, but I didn't. The prices were lower, but, on closer inspection, the flowers were a bit bruised and dry. Maybe it's because I arrived in the afternoon and the fresher flowers had been purchased already? This was my first stop since I had found a metered stall on the street - right in front of Tina's Lei Shop. The store is on the right side of Maunakea Street, close to the corner, near River of Life on Pauahi Street. Yes, there are some sketchy people hanging around, so be aware... Anyway, I kept the price in mind as a comparison. The female employee was a bit pushy and kind of helpful at the same time. Hmmm... ok, aunty... This was my first visit here. I usually go down Maunakea to the last lei stand on the DH side. But today, I decided to check out Tina's. Their prices are very reasonable for fresh lei. SImple purple orchid lei run $5 each and the fancier ones start at around $10 and up. I came here to buy seven lei to thank some people for their service to our church, so...I was looking for a bargain. I'm not saying other lei stands don't have good deals, but I found the shell and kukui lei at 3 for $10. Score! WHile I love fresh lei, and I'm sure may people do, I thought these folks might enjoy having a perpetual lei to remember the event, something that won't dry out and fade. SInce the were 3-for $10, I decided to get 9 lei and keep two for spares. You never know when you might need some for visitors or to take to that party last minute kine. Tina, the owner, and her husband are very friendly and very accomodating. Even if you have a fave lei stand, give TIna's a try! When graduation and Mother's Day is on the same weekend, every flower shop in Chinatown was basically first come, first serve...I found that out a week before so I knew I had to wake up early the day of if I wanted to get something good. I desperately needed hakus, leis, and a flower arrangement so I was determined to find all those at one shop to make my life easier. I ventured all over Chinatown going to at least more than 3 flower shops to compare prices and what they had in stock (definitely got a workout that morning!) but no one had everything I wanted or I just wasn't really happy with their selections of flowers. I was getting frustrated but thankfully mama raised a stubborn girl so I just kept walking into every shop until I came upon Tina's Lei Shop. They definitely had leis and hakus but I didn't see any flower arrangements until the worker led me to the fridges on the side and WOW they had at least 5 fridges full of these beautiful arrangements! They were definitely patient with me because I was there for more than 30 minutes trying to figure out which arrangement I wanted. A jewel of a flower shop in Chinatown and significantly less expensive than the other big shops on this street. You get get beautiful lei for less $; without compromising quality. Winner! First off what first attracted me to this shop was the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. Tina and her husband took their time to answer all my questions regarding a last minute order for my sister's wedding. I never felt rushed even though I feel like I took up a good chunk of their time. Tina thoroughly listened to what I was looking for and was realistic in what we could expect. She even responded to all my texts in a timely manner. Pricing was great. Most lei were about $10 less than the other major shops on this street. Lei were ready on time; the morning of my sister's wedding. The quality of the flowers were great and everything was beautiful. She even provided me a discount because I I provided her much of the fern I wanted to use for the lei. They do special orders but also have a great variety of pre-made lei and flowers. I found my new favorite place for lei. Not only is this place the most reasonable for lei, their leis are beautiful and they will deliver for a small fee. I needed 19 purple orchid leis for a wedding and when I really started to look at the prices - they were ridiculous. $15 for a single strand orchid lei at Walmart...like wth?!? I spoke with William and in 5 mins we agreed on a price ($5), delivery and we were done. Went a couple weeks later to pay for it and on the day of the wedding he shows up on time with my box of leis. They are always helpful and ask questions about what we are looking for so they can make the right suggestions that would fit our needs.
