I have been patronizing Rainforest Florists since they were located at Ward Warehouse. Their flowers are ALWAYS beautiful and fresh! I usually purchase their cut anthuriums which, if properly cared for, lasts for almost 2 months. Since my boss has a preference for the green anthuriums, I always call at least a day or 2 in advance asking if they'd be able to hold least 8 for me. They have ALWAYS graciously done so. I have wandered in to the Rainforest at Kilohana Square enough times to look at their beautiful flowers and unique decorative items that my sweetie got the hint and sent me a gorgeous arrangement of garden roses and lilies. Unfortunately there was an issue with the arrangement, it was damaged during transport, so I called Rainforest to let them know. Rainforest's customer service was excellent. A different time, a different florist delivered a damaged arrangement--a rose had snapped off. That florist sent a single replacement rose for me to stick into my arrangement. Not Rainforest, within a few hours, I was stunned when a complete second garden rose and lily arrangement arrived, just as stunning as the first and perfectly intact. I was the talk of the office, with not one, but two sets of flowers on my desk! Yes, their flowers are pricey, but if you are treating yourself or want to send something extra special, Rainforest's arrangements say luxury. Appalling customer service. Family member off-island ordered a bouquet for me as a condolence for a recently passed away family member. When it arrived and I posted on social media, a few friends (Vets) commented on how one of the flowers could possibly be a Flower toxic to my pet cats. To make sure since we are uneducated on flowers, we contacted Michael JUST for the names of the flowers given to see if we should remove them. Upon calling we were met with personal attacks on our character saying we are "bad owners" and that "whatever Vet told you that is ludicrous, pets eat flowers all the time" despite there being an FDA.Gov site about toxic flowers for pets after a quick google search. We NEVER asked for a refund, NEVER said it was their fault, NEVER asked for any type of compensation - just the name of the flowers given and that's what we were met with. The lack of empathy was astounding. You are the professional on the topic and we were the uneducated just asking for more information and become educated. You might be a botanist for 25 years but your Customer Service is still INTRO101 because clearly, those things are not mutually exclusive. I used go to Rainforest to get a few pretty flowers or plants, and honestly, they have horrible customer service, but the last and the FINAL time I will ever go there, a bunch of ladies were in the center, arranging flowers, didn't acknowledge me, a few just gave me stink eye (don't know why), blocked any room that I could have, and proceeded to talk loudly as if they were at home, not in a business place. I love flowers - always have, always will, love to give them, love to receive them. When my cousin passed away unexpectedly in September, my family faced the daunting task of planning a memorial service for a person whose wishes were largely unknown. This is going to sound a little weird, but due to my job, I'm actually somewhat experienced in planning funerals, so many of the details were left up to me. I have worked with many different florists, so I had a few in mind and even contacted a couple. The enormity of the occasion weighed heavily on me - everything had to be "perfect" for my cousin who was more like a sister to me. I had actually never worked with or even ever ordered flowers from Rainforest before in my life. I was familiar with their reputation for beautiful arrangements and their lei presented in ti leaves but hesitant that they might be outrageously expensive. In the end, something told me to just make the call. I gave Michael the owner a general description of what we wanted (3 large pieces, green and white, maybe some purple, no anthuriums). He advised me that purple sometimes looks too dark and morbid, but I felt that some of the photos on his website looked great, so I told him to use his judgment. I perhaps foolishly told him that there were no budget constraints (I got permission first!). Overall, though, I told him that my cousin was a creative person who would have appreciated the creativity that he brings to his work and that I trusted whatever he would do. Although it is available as an option, Rainforest does not generally do the ribbons with the "Beloved so-and-so" on them, instead printing your message on a sign to be placed on the arrangements, which is a look I prefer. I typed out a summary of our conversation including the various messages in an email to send to Michael...and then in my addled state of mind, hit "Save" instead of "Send." And then I left it there for a week. O_O A day before the service, I received a very kindly worded email from Michael asking if I'd had a chance to decide on the exact wording I wanted yet and that they would come in early the next day to print it out before the service. Thankfully, I was able to send off my email immediately so that they could do it right then and there. No scoldings from him even though I definitely deserved it. When I arrived at my church the next morning, I saw the most stunning floral arrangements I have ever seen in my life. I am tearing up just thinking about them. I know many people think flowers are stupid and frivolous, because they do not last. But to those like me who love and appreciate them, the memory of their beauty truly lasts forever. The pieces Michael and his team put together meant so much to my family and me in our time of mourning. It may seem silly to attach so much meaning to something like this, but they really did bring us comfort in a time when we needed it most. On a final note, the prices were quite comparable to other florists in town. In fact, I would say that the visual impact was far greater to anything we would have gotten for the same price elsewhere. I've been going to Rainforest since they were at their Ward location and I just love the various of flower arrangements that they offer, it's one of kind. Each have their own personalities of uniqueness and beauty when magic happens. You can't always get the same floral arrangements whether it be for funerals, proms, lei's, Birthday's and etc. it has its own... usually, I would go in, place an order, and pick it up but being that now I'm out of state :-( and it's my best friends birthday, Rainforest is my first option to call. However, I have to apologize to them because I keep forgetting our time zones are different and I think I called an hour to early before they actually opened up but, they answered and was very nice in taking my order and I had fun describing my friend and just the array of arrangements they put together is spectacular. It was funny though, my gf who never gets flowers was the very one by "CHANCE" to intercept the driver at her workplace and was soo shocked it was for her! Lol... she told the delivery person "ohh that can't be for me because I never get any flowers but, I'll take you to that department because I'm heading that way!" lol and the delivery person said "well, what's your name it's for a _____!" She was soooo stunned! She immediately called me and almost wanted to cry and was soo in tuned with all the mixtures of colors! My family and I have been ordering from Michael Since 2014 from all over the US. Not all same names so he may not be aware. This order was done over the phone. I asked if he wanted me to text or email a photo of the one I wanted but he said 'No need I know which one just we will leave the orchids out' I agreed. He later said I never asked if he wanted me to share the photo. I was willing to pay $300-400 for this client as I know the amazing arrangements from Rainforest are pricey. When the client, who has been overly kind to me and has a terminal situation texted me what he got my stomach dropped. It was by far the most dark and depressing thing I'd ever seen and I found myself apologizing and sending the client the photo of what I expected it to be. In trying to mitigate this situation with Micheal he became irate and insisted that I was not specific , that I never asked to share the photo to be sure etc. When I tried further to get him to talk to me as I was willing to pay extra to send the correct one, but he didn't know that as he refused to speak to me, I made it clear that he then left me no choice but to write this review. Sadly I will not go back to Rainforest, nor will my family. Had he agreed to hear me out when I suggested we speak to work this out, he would have made Double and kept a client. I won't be going back for more abuse, as That is what I got, No Service At All, just untrue abusive accusations. As an afterthought I just read some of the other 1 star reviews and I was shocked to see that I'm not the only one! I had an absolutely wonderful experience with the folks at Rainforest! I'm from Seattle but a family I am close friends with has family back in Hawaii who experienced a loss. I just googled florists in Honolulu and tried to find something that seemed unique. I came across Rainforest. I called Rainforest and spoke with Michael who made the whole process simple. I had never called and ordered flowers before (I had previously ordered flowers from places online and had them shipped). I let him know the arrangement would be a for a loss in the family, that I wanted bright colors and local flowers, and what I wanted to spend. He asked me what to put on the card and it was as simple as that. The next day I got an email from a member of the family saying how overjoyed they were to receive the flowers and how beautiful they are. The family sent me a picture and the flowers were gorgeous. They seemed cheerful and beautiful and better than what I could have imagined. I loved what they did with the square vase - they lined it with bamboo. It was something I hadn't seen done before. Awful customer service. I have been a customer of this florist for the last 5 years. The owner has never been friendly but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and have spent hundreds of dollars on his flowers. He never makes it easy to order an arrangement and today was no different and the worst experience I've ever had with a florist. Today I called for an arrangement to be delivered and as usual he was condescending but today he was antagonizing as if he didn't even want business. One example from our conversation: He insisted I tell him specifically what flowers I wanted in the arrangement to the exact name. Isn't that the job of the florist? He also couldn't grasp the idea that I wanted a "feminine arrangement that would have the right balance of delicate flowersand decent longevity" All I was asking for was a pastel arrangement with a mix of flowers some delicate / some more sturdy. Do not use this place. Stay very far away I never leave negative reviews on a business but this was probably the most ridiculous experience I have ever had. I called and asked for a small wedding bouquet to be delivered to my hotel room and the worker over the phone told me the total is $175 plus $35 dollars to deliver it to my room. I asked if we could make it happen for a total of $200. The worker over the the phone rudely hung up the phone on me and stopped answering my calls. I called them from a different number and they immediately picked up. And when I asked why they hung up on me he said my manager told me to because we don't bargain. This is a fine example of a business run by clowns that don't know customer service. There are plenty of other much better options on this island. read more

I've purchased several congratulatory arrangements from here before and despite the reviews and feedback I've gotten that the customer service is lacking, I was satisfied enough with the product that I continued to patronize them. That ends today. I went in looking to do several simple glass or other low vases with pebbles/glass marbles and a few floating flowers for a dinner. This was something that has been done at many weddings and special occasions and for a florist that's been in business for any significant length of time, it's something that they should have at least heard of. However when I asked the shop assistant if this was something that they could do he looked at me blankly and said, "I don't get it." I proceeded to try to explain that it would be small vases like what they had on the table but just glass and not covered in any material, plus a handful of flat glass marbles or pebbles plus an orchid or two and water. He then turned to me and said, "That's an awkward request." When I questioned why it was awkward, he replied, "I've never heard of that and in the five years I've worked here nobody has ever asked for that." I asked if anybody else in the shop might know what I'm talking about and he said the owner, Michael might so I asked if he was there and the shop assistant called him over. While you might think that the owner of a small floral business would have a more pleasant disposition, let me assure you that this is not the case. Upon hearing from the shop assistant what I was looking for, the owner asked how many I wanted. I said 4-5 for a small dinner and he said no, because they'd have to buy a a whole bag of gravel and then they'd be stuck with it which they wouldn't do. I tried to correct him and say not gravel but he went on about gravel several more times. When he finally registered that I was saying flat glass marbles he said, "What are those??" To sum up the rest of the conversation: Owner: The zen look went out in the '80s with Macrame. Me: I've been to countless weddings and events that incorporated floating blossoms in low glass vases/bowls up until 2016 at the very least. Owner: We have NEVER had a request for that and we work with a lot of the wedding planners. Owner: We do Mason jars with flowers floating in them. That's what's all over Pinterest. Air plants too. Assistant: We've done tall tube vases with orchids floating in them Me: Which is often when you'll find several small, vases/bowls done in the same vane so that people across the table are able to see each other and have a conversation. Owner: You're better off going to Ben franklin and buying your own materials and doing it yourself rather than paying what we would charge. Me: (To myself ) This is clearly is something that they could do but yet they pretend not to know what I'm talking about because it's beneath their perception of themselves? Me: So do you sell the orchids? (Referring to loose flowers as many other florists are able to provide) Owner: Points to numerous potted orchids. You can choose whatever you like and just cut them off. Me: (To myself) Okay. We've gone from thinly veiled insults to pointedly absurd suggestions that demonstrate this owner and shop's arrogant attitude. There's no point in continuing the conversation. Me: Okay, thanks. My husband was on phone the entire time so he heard the exchange which he later described as painful. He was also shocked that I didn't get upset or angry but it was one of those situations where somebody is so terribly off-base that it's difficult to take them seriously. I marvel at the fact that they would repeatedly insult a customer in order to preserve their self-perception and am impressed that a shop with such an abysmal attitude remains in business. read more

Go here to impress your recipient with quality flowers (men out there: take note). Unlike grocery store/cheaper bouquets, the flowers in the bouquets actually continue to bloom so it seems like the arrangement is growing. I have also picked up flowers for others for special occasions, and the owner packs them into a nice box so they are easy to transport. Basically I love this place. read more

We've used Rainforest flowers a few times for Mother's Day and Birthday arrangements and we've always had beautiful and unique arrangements full of interesting flowers. Recently, I had Rainforest make the bridal bouquet for my wedding. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, so I told them I wanted a unique bouquet that would look good with blue bridesmaid dresses in an outdoor environment. With only this direction, Rainforest made a stunning bouquet with lots of depth and unique flowers. It was hand-tied with silk ribbon which was fashioned into a small flower on the front of the stems. It was absolutely beautiful. The storefront is small and busy and parking can be difficult. However, it is worth it for their selection of unique and interesting arrangements and flowers. read more

I have been meaning to write a review for Rainforest for awhile now and just didn't get to it until now. I LOVE this place! I don't get all the bad reviews because every time I've been in here anyone who works here has been SUPER NICE! I love coming in here. It's like a little paradise. They always have unique flowers and really good prices on the roses which are gorgeous and hard to find - these roses I believe are the South American ones that are long stem and in wonderful colors. The owner Michael is very nice and knows how to put together boquets to funeral arrangements. My mother passed away last year and we bought three (3) arrangements from Michael. He did a WONDERFUL job and the flowers were just beautiful. We didn't have a care in the world about how they would turn out since whatever he does is beautiful. My dad refers people all the time to this place. When I stopped in after the funeral, I made it a point to tell Michael we all loved his arrangements and he was genuinely concerned as to how we felt since we didn't see them until they were delivered to the funeral service. They also have a darling little bird who sings and it's just so nice to come in to this place. Michael has always taken good care of me and whips up bouquets with ti leafs and all the friends I give them to just love them. They have gardenias during the summer too!! I can't imagine anyone here being as rude as the below mentioned reviews. It's just not in their character - don't believe everything you read. I'm headed down there today to grab some gardenias and roses!! As a Yelp Elite, I feel you need to have integrity when doing reviews and I am honest about everyone that I do. Amazing selection of flowers!!! I've been to this flower shop a handful of times, but always find flowers that are so unique and rare. One of my first great finds was fresh mistletoe!! The utterly hopeless romantic in me had to have some. My most recent trip yielded protea/pincushion, gigantic gerber daisies and mini artichoke-like carnation stem-like beauties. Great selection of stunning orchids and branched blossoms like ume blossoms, cherry blossoms, apricot blossoms. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE The reviews and my other half have experienced poor customer service and quite frankly silence and no assistance when they go in; however I received a beautiful orchid congratulatory arrangement and I wanted the same for a house warming gift. Despite the reviews I decided to give them a chance. I called ahead and expressed I would be coming and I guess I was desperate because even by phone I felt like "Taylor" didn't want to assist me. Even then I went in on Saturday afternoon 3/25/17 and it happened to me. There was a gentlemen sitting behind the counter and the only noise I heard was the radio and the parrot in the front of the store. I browsed the different arrangements for about 10 minutes with no engagement what so ever. I was almost embarrassed to ask for assistance at this point so I left. The location is great, lots of parking, friendly surroundings, but rainforest doesn't exude the same inviting environment. Maybe they have a contract with a large establishment to stay a float and customer service is not priority? Whatever it may be my message to the owner would be to take the Yelp reviews, read them, and come up with a plan to fix the service. Many people are going to visit an establishment like yours not because their just browsing but because they need something from you for a happy or sad occasion. You need to accommodate those emotions and really treat your customers well.........the new customers count as well, not only your regulars. Mahalo and success for your future. read more

Horrible experience here! So much that I decided to make a yelp account just to warn others about their horrible customer service. Ive bought flowers here before but never again! Ordered flowers in advance for Valentines Day requesting that my budget was no more than $150. When I arrived to pick them up they completely forgot about it! The owners response was "oh I think I remember your order"...Umm yeah I sure fckn hope so.... Then he showed me the paper of my order, didn't say anything, and finally pointed out a pre arranged setting that they were simply selling in the store! Ridiculous!! Luckily I found an $85 arrangement that I liked and asked if he could throw in a couple of flowers that I initially requested. He threw in maybe 4 flowers and told me the total was now $162!! So not only did they forget my initial $150 budgeted order, but now they're charging more? Pathetic. Was contemplating about punching the guy in the face but thought better of it. I have been going here for years to buy peonies as they have the best selection of peonies for Mother's Day. We ordered an arrangement for a special occasion.
