    Complimentary salad for classes
    Porsche S.

My friends and I decided to attend an ornament making event with our kids for Xmas. This allowed us to spend time together and exchange gifts. The lady was super helpful and allowed the kids to have so much fun. She even took it a step further and helped them make other items like a terrarium. Salad and cupcakes were included in the process for the workshop. We were also the only ones signed up, which was nice and intimate. I was so happy with this experience and will definitely be back. Parking is on the street or in the building structure. Entrance on Kawaiahao street for parking. Store is fronting Cooke street.

    Today's purchase.

Mari's Urban Garden, a great find. The store is clean, well stocked, well lit and very organized. The staff was helpful and unlike a lot of other shops, ALL the plants were very healthy and well cared for. I didn't see any plants that looked weak or had brown or dying leaves. I left with 3 plants and I'm very happy I went.

Don't forget to get your parking validated!

One of my favorite places to browse for plants and plant related gifts! Be sure to get free validated parking by entering the parking structure from Kawaiahao street (look out for the maroon awnings for the entrance). The parking attendant will give you a ticket and a piece of paper. Take the ticket with you to get validated but keep the paper on your dashboard. You'll return both to the attendant when you exit. Make sure you park in a stall that's labeled at the top for customers. And make a note of where you parked lol...it's easy to get lost in the parking structure! Mari's Urban Garden is a great place for smaller houseplants (maybe 8" pot and under) and plant related gifts. They do have some plants that are larger/in larger pots but a majority are on the smaller side. Their stock is regularly changing so I highly recommend following them on Instagram and checking their IG Stories! They always have a good mix of common/low maintenance plants (pothos, aglaonemas, ZZs, etc.) and rarer, sometimes more advanced care plants (monstera Thai constellation, philodendron pink princess, etc.) I've seen a fungus gnat here and there but all of the plants look super healthy and well cared for. What I appreciate about Mari's Urban Garden is that all of their plants are labeled and their staff are knowledgeable and friendly if you have any care questions. I feel like each time I've visited, I overheard staff assisting customers with plant selection when they're browsing for new plants and plant care on plants they've already bought. No need be shame if you're new to houseplant or feel like you have a "black thumb"! They're welcoming to keiki visitors too (of course, please make sure they use "gentle hands" and/or ask before touching things). I feel like some plant shops (especially on the mainland) can feel high makamaka where they expect customers to already be well-versed in houseplants and/or get annoyed when people bring their kids to shop. Plus it's frustrating when I see a plant I potentially want to buy but there's no name label or only a generic label (ex: "tropical plant") so I can't look up the care requirements on my phone. They also have cute labels for pet friendly plants too (: I think most if not all of their plants are sourced from Mari's Gardens in Mililani. If you live town side, you can place an order on their website to pick up specific plants/items at Mari's Urban Garden. I haven't tried this service yet but I was surprised to see options for larger plants in 1 - 2 gallon pots. I feel like their prices are very reasonable. There are some pricey plants but they're on par if not slightly less expensive than what other shops, including online, are offering the same plants for (ex: monstera albo, ZZ raven). Free parking, friendly staff, fair pricing. Can't ask for more!

My friends arrangement from mililani's location

Sad to say that the Mother's Day grab and go bouquet that had to be preorder was a Fail. The pictures on the website were labeled as "freshest locally grown blossoms...special and vibrant" and shown as an arrangement with fillers, a protea, anthuriums, roses and tropical ginger ranges of pinks in color. I was given the choice to pick one of the 4 grab and go options and was extremely dissatisfied. I noticed that neither of the options looked anything like what was advertised, nor were the medium arrangements that were set aside for pick up, except for the large that cost $80. My friend picked hers up at the Mililani location and experience the same thing, where we both had 3 roses with brown edges and some fillers, and a palm leaf which were the most decent looking out of the bunch. I couldn't gift this to my mom, so I had to create my own with added flowers from Safeway that cost the same price. Next time, please either give what is being advertised or a note stating that flower choices will change upon day; especially if it's a preorder item. Something to let the customers know what they are getting. This isn't my first time purchasing from here and enjoy every time we come but this visit was less than satisfying.

Nice plant and gift shop. The young lady was very helpful regarding my indoor plant and full of knowledge. Their small plants can make a great basket with different teas, coffee, candies, flavored granolas. Next week, I shop on my payday...lots to plan and think about....gifts. The cost of most things are at fair price. Great place for house warming...Lol! I'll be moving in about 8 months...hint, hint! Love this place! Ciao!

    Succulents galore.

Plants make the house feel alive. This is the place to find beautiful, healthy and unique plants for home decor. The succulents and ferns are amazing, with options that won't break the bank. They have a lot of nice gift options. The shop is pristine clean with plant-themed decor as well. There are nice indoor hanging baskets with hand-macrame hangers. The staff is friendly and greeted us. They were busy preparing arrangements. Street parking is limited and a bear, but the visit to the shop was worth it.

Plants in the city ... I knew that I would like this shop because I have been to the original location in Mililani - thanks to a Yelp Hawaii Elite Event. We had a fun virtual event where we assembled some cute succulents into a terrarium-like arrangement... Acceptable for gift giving! Mari's Urban Garden is more convenient for residents who live in Honolulu. A possible concern would be the parking in Kaka'ako. I solved that problem by visiting on a Sunday when metered street parking is free! I scored a space right in front of the shop! My mom tagged along. She was equally impressed with the pleasant decor, attractive displays, wide selection of plants (zz plants, lucky bamboo, anthurium, violets, etc.), and friendly service. We both oohed and ahhed over whimsical accessories like angel ornaments, candles in local juice cans, and colorful planters. When you go, make sure you get a selfie on the wicker throne - it located under the live plant portrait... And pick up a gift or two for Mother's Day, Administrative Professionals' Day, house warming, birthday, and more!

Great little plant shop for smaller and in home gardens. Great selection of fleshy air plants and others for those tight spaces. The help are very knowledgeable, professional, courteous and Aloha friendly. And if they can't help you here at this location they'll be able to assist with ideas from their 18 acres of items in Millilani. I highly recommend.

One of my newest interests is plants...where since we bought a place, I've been looking to find ways to help bring life to the place as well as clean the air in the apartment. Then, I heard about Mari's Urban Gardens...a little oasis in Kaka'ako that has a surprisingly wide variety of plants, planters, and other tools used in the hobby. Most importantly, Mari's Urban Gardens has very friendly and knowledgeable staff that can answer many questions about the plants and the needs of each type. This was my one-stop shop for all my plants. I've visited this shop many times in the past few months and, each time, the service I received was the same - the staff always greets each customer and offers to answer questions you may have. I've asked them about how often do I water it, how much sunlight does it need, how do I repot plants at home...and each time, they are so kind and and helpful. In fact, my last visit, when I mentioned that some of my plants were dying, the staff said that we can always reach out to them via direct message in Instagram to try and diagnose the problem. Besides being a great resource to help figure out how to care for the plants, the staff can also re-pot plants and make arrangements (if you want a custom arrangement vs the pre-arranged plants). This service is free if you purchase the plant and planter at the store in the same visit, but if you bring your own planter or it was purchased on a different day,, they can still re-pot plants for $3 per planter. If you're a plant lover or someone just getting into gardening, you should definitely check out this shop.

Super cute plant store! They also sell micro flowers and fresh lettuces. There's a section with assorted crystals, and in the opposite side, are indoor plants with a little sticker for the ones letting you if they are toxic to your fur babies. The staff is really friendly, and Erica is very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions! As for parking, there's several parking meters directly in front of the store, and I was told that they validate parking if you park in the building. I could spend hours in this place! Now, if they had a little cafe that sold coffee and treats, I could camp out here forever!

It might be because I'm spending more time indoors more than usual and I'm trying to simplify and zen out my area. I absolutely love plants but I have a black thumb :'( but I've been seeing so much creativity with air plants it's my new obsession. So here's Mari's Urban Garden on the ground floor in the Imperial Plaza oh my word what an adorable shop filled with beautiful plants, this bright and happy little place has and incredible assortment of plants and accessories with an amazing staff to help you with any questions you may have. Mix and match any plant with or without pots and they will repot it for you want as well. I absolutely love love love this convenient location with plenty of street metered parking for a quick stop or you may park in the building as well. What a lovely "plant based" place ;) thank you!!

I found this cute little shop for plants lover! Located at imperial plaza. There is a parking place in this building. There is a lot of small plants and pots. Price is reasonable! Each plants are so fresh. Recommended!

Late review but better than never! This past weekend my husband, friend, and I went to Mari's Urban Garden in hopes to find THE PERFECT starter plant for us. Let me start off by saying the vibes were immaculate! When you walk into the shop, there are a variety of different types of plants and everything was well organized. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us decide which plants to get especially since we are beginners at being plant parents! We will definitely be coming here again! Great staff, beautiful plants, and amazing value!

It was started in 1938 by East Oahu farmers and a Kailua papaya cooperative as a farmer-founded business entity that shifted from farming to home gardening. Today, it supplies plants, floral arrangements, fertilizers, pesticides, garden tools, etc. for home gardeners. There are currently two locations for Koolau Farmers: Kaneohe and Honolulu (McCully). This review is for the Honolulu location. Items that the McCully location carry include: bromeliads, flowers, fruit, orchids, palms, fruit trees, peppers, tropical fruits, shrubs, soil, trees, veggies, hono hono orchids, dwarf fruit trees (Meyer lemon, Tahitian limes, Naval oranges, jabong, grafted mango, avocado). It also offers seed starting supplies, fertilizers for plants and flowers, worm composting bins; and info re growing and care of indoor potted plants, organic gardening, soil testing, and proper lighting. What brought us to Koolau Farmers is my lilikoi vine that I've had in my back yard for a number of years. With the help of bees, the vine had flourished and produced many delicious fruits for homemade lilikoi desserts, such as lilikoi chiffon pie, lilikoi curd, lilikoi bars, and more. But in recent years, the flowers would bloom, but because there are no bees to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, no fruits are produced. Questions to Koolau Farmers confirmed that there is a lack of nesting sites for carpenter bees (I think they're known as the black bumblebees that we no longer see) to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, resulting in a lack of fruit. According to Koolau Farmers, the flowers must be hand-pollinated instead. Staff provided instructions to my hubby on how to hand-pollinate the beautiful lilikoi flowers. A work in progress, and I'm sure more questions to follow. Then the next project will be our dwarf local orange tree. Where is the fruit? There's a single tiny orange on it, yes, only one! Hope Koolau Farmers can help us on this one! Another work in progress. Staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and provides helpful guidance. An unlikely spot in urban Honolulu to have a nursery and garden supply store, but I'm glad that it's there! The interior space is not that big, but houses boxes of fertilizers and various home gardening equipment for home gardeners. There may be displays of seasonal items on how to grow certain plants, such as hono hono orchids. Open daily from 8a to 5p. Free parking in the private lot. On the outside private lot are scattered variety of healthy local plants, herbs, orchids, and fruit trees. We look forward in working with Koolau Farmers and knowing that they are there to help us with our home gardening needs!

My siblings and I always had plants around us and learned basic techniques from our parents. My mom has prized hanging heliconia plants and torch gingers. When they're not blooming, she complains, but doesn't water the plants extra nor give them fertilizer. I'm the kind of person who will do something to make her happy. After several suggestions to mom about fertilizer, I went to Ko'olau Farmers on Beretania Street and got a bag of fertilizer. This store has been around for a very long time. It's a locally owned name with another location in Kaneohe! I read the labels and asked the cashier if the one I selected would be good for heliconias... He said that this mix will force the plant to bloom. It won't necessarily get greener. Perfect! I can't wait to see the results!
