The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page -- Saint Augustine I'm writing a book. I've got the page numbers done -- Steven Wright Sidney Does the East Bay Wineries Part XIV - The Suburban Portion Page Mill started in 1976 at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1976. Looking to expand, they moved to Livermore in 2004 (Winery #24) and now there are more than 50 wineries in the area! They have a quaint tasting room in what looks to be a historical building. The tasting room bar is long and I was helped by several people who were very cheerful and passionate about their product. And what good product it is! I particularly enjoyed the whites: an outstanding Livermore chardonnay and a very good Pinot Grigio. I purchased two bottles of the Chardonnay and the first one opened a few weeks ago had a perfect balance that made it lovely with or without food. Aged for only a few months in neutral barrels, this is not an oaky monster of a Chard but actually something that is enjoyable to drink. Their reds were also good, including the Grenache and Syrah but that Chardonnay was the winner for me. I had hoped to try the $75 sparkler but they only had the $18 rose open. It was just okay and not nearly as good at the Crooked Vine sparkling pinot. A recommended stop indeed! Tasting fee is waived with purchase and given the charming surroundings, this is an excellent stop as you head on back to DT, especially since like most of the suburban Livermore wineries they shut down at 4:30. BTW, i have more than page numbers now on my book. I just uploaded the final cover and manuscript to CreateSpace. Soon, I might actually get paid for this drivel! ;) read more

Came here for a tasting while visiting family in this area. Was one of the wineries we visited. Out of 7 wines we tasted we loved the 2015 Merlot 2015 Cab 2015 Syrah-Tazetta Their tasting fee is $10 and if you buy, you get $5 credited towards your purchase. Now, this is where trouble began for me. They're aggressive at collecting the $10 tasting fee upfront. Now, from accounting stand point, this make absolutely no sense. The other thing, is the servers cannot process the tasting fee. Only the manager can. They have it where only one person can process cash/credit cards. Now if the manager is available, there's no issue but if the manager is busy, you wait around for the manager. Not sure why they'd have it this way. My guess is they might have had $ shortages in the past or this winery is not a regular-serving winery. I gave 3 stars because we loved the above 3 wines. These wines are also well priced. Also, the servers are nice and friendly. read more

One of my favorite wine tasting spots in Livermore. The staff is always super friendly which is amazing! The wine tasting experience is great as well. So many wines to try(way more than other wineries). I also love that once a month they have a bring your own wine bottle to fill up with their choice of blend for a great price. When I'm tasting in Livermore this is always one stop I have to make. read more

Page Mill Winery bottles under the Page Mills label. just by chance all my tastes suited my palate. an anomaly for sure, usually skip cabs which have too much tannin. event::LVBTW(3/21/15) barrel tastes: -2014 pinot noir smooth, no harshness -2013 petite syrah smooth, no harshness -2013 chardonnay, little oak taste (not buttery), fermeted 70% stainless stell caskets wine notes: -wineries interested in selling "futures" delivery in several months time of wine in progress. weary since barrel tastes may not be indicative of bottled taste, some wineries make a blend to have a final product. such product may not be the same taste i like. read more

Awesome little winery that relocated 10 years ago from Los Altos. My first time stopping-in and I was very impressed with how quaint the tasting room was. Yes, it's a bit small, but that's what makes it so unique. The staff were very friendly and took the time to explain the various wines we'd be tasting that day. The staff gave a history about the wines and the winery and made us feel so comfortable. In addition, I also enjoyed the wines they served. The Chardonnay and GPS stood out to me. I can't say enough about how awesome the staff was. read more

I love this winery. I am so happy I found it because they have delicious wines for amazingly reasonable prices, and their tasting room is so much fun! I scheduled a group event here recently in December and the staff was extremely accommodating for the group. Their tasting fee was $5, but it is waived if you buy a bottle. Although we had a huge party, and only picked up 3 bottles, they waived the fee for all of us anyway. They have lots of yummy nibbles while you taste your wine, and their wine club is super reasonable. I love their wines because they're nicer wines that I don't feel bad serving during dinner or bringing over to friends, but also don't feel guilty if I pop one open one night for a drink just because. Overall I like this place. read more

We have been members here for a bit over a year now and we love the intimate feeling and fantastic quality of this winery. They source their grapes from all over california (petit sirah grown on site, pinot noir from bien nacido in Santa Barbara, zin from Napa, etc.) so that Dane (owner/winemaker) gets a chance to play with all sorts of fun different styles. They have very low production so he maintains great control over the quality. The tasting room is a small section of their barrell room with a small counter (so be a bit patient...you are drinking wine, it's okay to relax). You won't find walls of trinkets for sale and you're likely to find one of the owners behind the tasting counter (as opposed to the dozens of low-paid and ill-informed lackies that you see at most wineries). The wine is very reasonably priced and they've got styles for every type of wine lover. I really enjoy the Angela's Cuvee and the Sav Blanc on hot summer days. Their pinot is from one of the most well-regarded vineyards in california and Dane does a better job (particularly Quintessence) with those grapes than any of the other winemakers I've tried who have access to them. I recently opened a bottle of the 1994 Quintessence at a nice dinner and, although a bit thin, it was still showing as well as any pinot I've tried. The Zins are fantastic and I'm a big time zin lover, so it takes quite a bit for me to be impressed. If you're in Livermore for an afternoon of tasting, I highly recommend you stop by this little hidden gem and check them out. read more

I attended a great event last night at Page Mill Winery and of course I have to Yelp about it! I had never been to this winery before but was lured in by live music, snacks, wine tasting and a glass of wine for only $15. The venue was very nice, the food was yummy, some of the wine was great and the live music (Stevie Rae Stephens) was amazing. Since this winery is within walking distance of my parents' house, I guarantee that I will return! read more

Page Mill Winery is very supportive of the local community. I recently attended a Charity Event that was in support of Open Heart Kitchen and Goodness Village. Page Mill Winery was one of the sponsors of the auction that raised almost $30k. So spend your money at this winery. Also, I don't drink but my wife tells me the wine is excellent! read more

Have the VIP pass for Livermore wineries so trying out new ones. This place is fantastic. Great wines at a reasonable price. Every Thursday they're open until 8pm and have a local fundraiser where proceeds are donated. I really like that idea and will visit more on Thursday nights because of it. Tasting room is great and they have an outdoor covered space as well. I enjoy their reds more than the whites but can't go wrong with either choice there. read more

Second winery I have ever been to whilst in Livermore for the afternoon. I really liked this little winery and thought it was quite romantic. After visiting Livermore wineries, I was quite impressed....wines were quite nice, priced like Sonoma/Napa wines, but without all the dang crowds and drunks. Special thanks to the owners, very cool joint. yeah, you don't have the estate beauty of the Sonoma wineries, but hospitality goes a long way. The wines were all delicious......I opted for the savi blanc and the merlot. Also, very cool they rebate the $5 price tag for drinking, so I was quite happy. Really enjoyed the savi at a $17 price tag. Cool little joint......I'd go back if in Livermore again...... Cheers! read more

First time here, been to many of the wineries in Livermore since we live 20 minutes away. Had a good time and enjoyed sitting on their patio but we had to get up several times to ask for the next tasting as they seemed to get distracted inside, not a big deal. Only tried their reds but out of about 7 of them I only cared for two. The Petite Syrah was decent and the GPS an unusual blend of Grenache, Petite Syrah and Syrah which I thought was very good and drinkable right now. I bought two for $31 each after them crediting $5 of my $10 tasting fee. I inquired about purchasing a case expecting a discount but the discount was very small so I didnt bother. My overall impression was average to below average wines that were over priced compared to my favorite places in the area. read more

4 Stars: 5 Stars for the Service 4 Stars for the Wine and 3 for the Ambiance I've been to Page Mill 3 times now and each time was enjoyable. It's your typical family/home-y winery in Livermore with lots of character and charm. The actual wine tasting room is a quaint little bar room (stand up only). Their wine tasting is now $10/tasting with anywhere from 7-9 different tastings depending on the day. The ladies who work at the winery are top notch, super warm and friendly, and knowledgeable in their wines. We ended up returning here for the B.Y.O.B. experience which I haven't done anywhere else! On one Sunday each month (typically 3rd Sunday but check their website) you can bring your own empty bottles of wine and refill them here with a house red blend they produce every month for just $10. If you want to partake and don't have your own empty bottles, you can buy their own used bottles for just 50 cents each. This is one of those really fun little experiences that enable you to see how a wine is filled, labeled, and corked! The wine is just a simple red table wine that lasts up to 6 months but typically you don't let it age. Overall - it's a fun little spot that welcomes all - wine newbies and wine connoisseurs alike. Cute little winery! Page Mill's tasting room is quite small but there's a outdoor patio/lounge area to sit about 20ish people. I'm sure there'll be more space once they finish their renovation. $5 wine tasting for 6 different wines, and if you purchase a bottle they refund your wine tasting fee. My favorite was the 2007 Zinfandel Vintner's Select - full body, slightly sweet and strong. I could feel the buzz start to hit me after a couple sips :) read more

GREAT WINE!!! Purchased the Angela's Cuvée Rosè (duh!) delish and joined the wine club! Score free tastings and 50% off my purchase today (winning!) couldn't have picked a better time to go. They do include crackers (blah), but you can bring your own food/ picnic and sip women's and dine at your leisure. While here there was also a Girl Scout selling cookies (OMG! YAAAAAAS!). Appears to be kid friendly as individuals has their minis present as well. read more

Used the Priority Wine pass during our wine tasting tour and this was our first stop! Super friendly and attentive staff! Once our wine glasses were empty, the lady came instantly. Great mixture of reds and whites. Very cute outdoor sitting area if you don't want to do your wine tasting inside. read more

I love this winery for many reasons - first, the wine is great. Nice selection. Next, the staff is very friendly. Finally, they are huge supporters of our community. They have Twilight Tasting evenings each Thursday which supports a local charity, school or sports team. I have been a member for years. read more

Person running register was crude; ordered cheese and vegetable plates that were served in its package to be plated, opened, and placed ourselves. Would not recommend ordering that. Aside from poor service and having to open and plate our own cheese/vegetable board the property is charming and they offer their BYOB wine which is 10 bucks on the 3rd Sunday of every month. read more

This is a cute, cozy little winery with some pretty good wine. I got a deal through living social for a tasting for 2, too 4 different winery's for the price of $20.00 not bad huh? My thoughts exactly, and what really excited me was the fact that Page Mill was on the list. I had my first trying of Page Mill Zinfandel at Swirl in downtown Livermore and absolutely fell in love with it so, I was quite anxious to visit them and try some more of there wines. The tasting room is quite small though, its decorated very nice and the ambiance is quite cozy. I love the bar area. They have little hooks so, you can hang your purse which I think is so cute! They also have quite a few very girlie, cute boutique like items for sale such as shirts, napkins and other cute items all of course, pertaining to wine : ) I got a really cute black shirt with rhinestones saying " Wine takes the bitch right out of me" : ) They really had a nice small selection of wines to choose from along with my favorite Zin : ) They also had a new wine they came out with called GPS which is nice but not my favorite. Overall, I really like the quaint, small yet stylish interior of the winery and tasting room. I thought the service was pretty friendly for the most part. I also thought they have a pretty decent selection of wines and ofcouse an outstanding zin!!! I am definitely coming back to get my zin and perhaps another tasting : ) read more

There is very good wine to be had at Page Mill. The staff are personable, if a little snooty, but the tasting room and "fancy port-a-potty" are endearing. There's also a cat milling about Page Mill who lets you pet it's head between tastings. Really. Thanks to our driver, our group enjoyed a free tasting here. I'd give their Chardonnay a solid 8/10 (and bought a bottle). Lots of people discuss the Syrah, but I found "Angela's Cuvee" to be more intriguing. A dry rose, it looks like a white zin but has the bite of a fresh red. Even better? Brownie bites dusted with powdered sugar. It's as if they knew I was coming. read more

My now husband and I picked Page Mill Winery to have our wedding at on 7/7/17. Everything about this place made our night so much more memorable! Debbie worked with us every step of the way seeing that we both live in WA and were only able to meet with her twice throughout the whole process. She guided us to vendors around the area. Wow, good wine... service is a little impersonal. But very good wine at super good prices. The tasting room when we happened to be there was douche bag central, so I kind of get why the staff was a little short. I liked the tasting room but the bar is a little long and narrow so if it's crowded it makes for a not as great experience. I really enjoyed their zinfandel and their petite syrah. I'd definitely come back and hopefully there would be less tight-pants wearing, plastic sunglasses inside d-bags next time. read more

Great local winery. Relatively small and way more low key than some of the larger ones in the area like Wente and Concannon. They have an award winning chard and a great selection of Syrahs that are both local , organic and non organic and also grown from other areas in California. The staff is very friendly and unpretentious. Very 3rd Sunday they have a bring your own bottle event where they will fill your empty bottle with a blend selected by the winemaker for $8.99 which is pretty fun. read more

Eh. We went with some friends last weekend. It was really just ok. One of them commented that it looked like Haunted Mansion from Disneyland, and they're totally right-on. And I mean the elevator part of that ride. Teeny-tiny tasting room. This was the first winery EVER to card us before tasting. I actually kind of appreciated it - not for the flattery "I look under 21?!" aspect, but for the responsibilty on their part. read more

3.5 stars Cellar Door 11 GPS Livermore valley. Flowers: violets. Not unlike a cote rotie. Riper fruits/zin like, cherries, cassis, plums, raspberries. Warm spice: clove. Very good 11 Syrah napa valley. Black/red fruits. Violets, meaty too. Similar to the GPS but meatier and heavier. Finishes grippy with green peppercorn taste. 10 Syrah Santa Cruz. Good aromatics, meaty, black fruits, cream the cassis, good concentration, smoky finish read more

First stop on our winery tour. Dane S. was serving from the barrel and Gary was on the inside serving us their wares. We tasted a petite syrah (grown on site), cabernet, and zinfandel out of the barrel. All tasted really good and I'm sure will be a pleasure in the future. Very dog friendly. We had our dog Toto with us and the owner took a picture of him for their dog book. Thought that was a nice touch. read more

pretty good wine for a place in Livermore. It was crowded on the Saturday we went. The staff were all very friendly, if you did not go up to get your next tasting they would come up to you. (thats good service in my book) only problem... they had a porta potty as the bathroom, no matter how nice you dress it up, its still a porta potty. read more

I was here for barrel tasting so I didn't get the full experience. The tasting area is pretty intimate, and it looked like people were getting a lot of personalized attention. For the barrel tasting, a tent was setup outside that included a few jewelry vendors and complementary chili. The are is very pretty and I hope to stop by soon to try more wine. read more

Went here on the afternoon of New Year's eve with a friend for some pre-evening wine tasting. The place had a good amount of business going on, but our service was still pretty good. The wines are great, the tasting price is only $15 which is about on par with the other wineries in the area. The staff was friendly, and we were allowed to take our time and they had a good knowledge of the wine. Would definitely be on my list for a repeat visit when I'm in Livermore next :) read more

We had a Signature wine card- and Page Mill was on the list. We really enjoyed this small winery and liked all the reds, and the BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) blend. The third Sunday of the month they have the BYOB events, and for 8.99 they fill your bottle with their blend. Sounds like a lot of fun. Watch for the balloons- it's a small driveway and easy to miss but it's worth watching out for. They also have a great selection of wine related apparel. Very cute things in many sizes. read more

Delicious whites. Mediocre reds. Service was hospitable and its a cute little spot to bike to in Livermore. No frills. Would have been nice to have doors open and a little more sunlight and fresh air in the tasting room. $10 is a good price for a flight but I read that some people paid $10 for a flight AND a tour of the winery--I would've liked both. read more

Luckily, these guys were open on a random Friday--it was perfect for our out-of-town guests' trip. This place is amazing. Super-friendly, great wine and great atmosphere. In our opinion, one of the best Livermore has to offer. The two-man team were right in the middle of crush, and let us walk over to watch the flipping of the skins. They were happy to discuss/educate us on the processes they do, and even helped take a picture of it all. We usually pick up a wine or two to say "thanks" to anyone who is so helpful (even is we don't like the wine), but we have bought a case here both times we've been here because they are so good. I am not sure for how long, but the Syrah is 1/2 price too (around $12/bottle). read more

This place is rather interesting... On taking one of my friends to local wineries, this was our first stop. It seemed as though we were driving to someone's house, a thought that was quickly dismissed once we saw the vineyards. For as small as the site is, there is a good amount of parking. The site does not do the interior of the tasting room justice; they did a great job in decorating their tasting room. However, the tasting room is small in size, so it's only worth visiting if it's just yourself or maybe two more parties, anything more is just completely ridiculous (we had 3 groups, a dog and us, obviously to many alcoholics for a small room). The people who run the place are nice, rather friendly and informative. The wine was decent. Nothing really stands out and would attract me to go back. read more

So I have very mixed feelings about this place. Some things are incredible. Some things are not…read moreso great. I am a member of the "Legends" club. So that to me means it's top of the line membership as indicated by their pricing and what we get. So I feel I should get top notch deals, pricing and service. Turns out, we get the same shaft as the lower club members. Starting with the good, the location is pristine. Nice area with lots of room for kids and adults to mingle and play. The wine is also pretty darn good. Of course there are some better than others but I enjoy most of their wine. The service is also for the most part very good. The waitstaff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Their food is also pretty darn good. It's not incredible, and a bit overpriced but it's fine enough. Their wine pricing is also fair (but of course with the highest membership we get the biggest discount). My biggest complaints would be the price gouging and lack of communication. We made arrangements on a Friday to show Sunday with 6 and asked for the "VIP space upgrade to lounge or upstairs Vista Patio Lounge (when available)". They said no problem. When we showed on Sunday they said it was closed with no notice. Just a sorry. OK whatever. We sit inside (6 people and 2 children) and they charge for 2 children a "non drinker" charge of $10 ($5 each). A head count charge for non-drinkers? For children? Total nonsense! I am spending over $1,200 a year here and you want to gouge me for someone's kids? Their tastings are $40 a pop which is really crazy. Our price is waived on this so that's fine but if you are not a member you are paying a lot for a little. The wines do take a bit of time to come and they don't give you a lot. Kind of a bummer waiting for the taste. We ended up with 4 appetizers (sliders $24, Charcuterie $25, Tater Tots $12 and Pretzel Bites with Grilled Sausage $16) 2 bottles of wine and $4.25 for water and the bill was over $250. Oh and top that off, with 6 people, they charge a mandatory 20% on the bill for a tip and are basing that with taxes (as the button default), not the actual sub-total so they are actually getting about 23%. All in all, I am not sure that the cost is worth what you get. I mean we are giving them a lot of money just to be members and then having to pay more and more for anything else that really should be included (like water and kids) makes this place just a bit too over-rated for me. Probably end my club membership in the fall and go someplace that doesn't place money first.

This place is really beautiful, with fountains, gardens, vineyards, and cabanas. As I entered, the staff was really friendly and immediately offered me a glass of wine. We had reserved the entire outdoor cabana area, but since it was raining, we moved the party indoors. The indoor area is really nice with wooden tables and fresh flowers. What's nice is that we can bring food in, so we had food doordashed in. They also have games like corn hole and jenga available. It was a wonderful afternoon of eating, drinking, and walks around their vineyards. My coworker said she has attended a wedding and a birthday party here. This is a great venue for a special event. It's not as large as Concannon or Wente. It's rustic and charming. I'm not a wine drinker, so I can't comment on the quality of their wines.

We stepped inside The old Barn and were greeted by the owner and winemaker himself, Brett. The barn was so cute, and honest. And Brett was so clearly passionate about his wines. It isn't often that you find this personal connection with a winery. Many of them are corporate today, and most owners have employees in the tasting room and are not there on a Saturday afternoon. That alone set Boaventura apart from most wineries. The wines were excellent! There wasn't one bad one in the ten that we tasted. That's pretty amazing, even for fantastically epic famous wineries. And to find that in Livermore Valley is even more awesome. I will absolutely return to Boaventura and I recommend it as a must-stop to all of my wine-loving friends.
