cool antiques in the tasting area

First off, I have to admit, I didn't really "love" any of the wines here. Of the 8 or so reds that we tried, there may have been 1 Cab, and maybe one Petite Syrah that I found decent. Just basic food wine, good red fruit presence with grippy young tannins. Nothing to bust out on a special occasion. Yet some of the pricing is delving into the "special occasion" realm. Unless you go for their lower end stuff ($20ish), most everything else will be over $30 and some approaching the $50 mark. But in their defense, I noticed this at other neighboring wineries as well, so it could be just keeping up with the market. But at these prices, you can certainly find much better stuff at a store/on line. But when you buy at the store, you will not to be able to sip on the wines amongst the vineyard and the people who make it. That is the price you are paying for when you go tasting/purchasing at the winery. So there is that. The digs: -Quaint farm-like environment. You have to drive through the steep hills crawling with rows of grape vines.. Gravel parking lot, porta-potties and farm machinery. Cool in my book. -Metal barn that serves as the tasting room. It also doubles as an antique gallery so you can browse about whlist sipping on your glass. It looks junky, but there are some cool old shit up in there. -Lots of wines on their tasting list. More than 12! I had to scale and edit what I really wanted to taste, other wise my mouth would've puckered out. 6-8 is way plenty. -Free tasting. Yes, that is not a typo, it cost nothing. You will never find a place in Napa/Sonoma that does this. They used to, but no more. Livermore is on its way to that, but you can still find a handful out here, that does it the old school way. -The Mad Cait is a white dessert wine that is pretty unique. Peachy, slight citrus with an earthy and heavy finish. It is quite unique. Pairing this with grilled stone fruits over vanilla ice cream and honey this summer. -Spring time and maybe late autumn will be the best weather months to venture out. In my recent outing it was a perfect 70ish degrees, with a slight wind and a cloudless blue sky. We just sat on their makeshift patio for literally an hour, just chilling. In deep summer months, it will be waaayyy hotter, with hot wind. I'll pick and choose. So this may not be top on your list when venturing out here in Livermore Valley, but certainly consider it. It is charming enough to warrant that opportunity.

This winery was so great. The owners are super friendly and wine is pretty good (says those who were drinking) They were very accommodating to even us Designated Drivers by having water & soda to drink while everyone was wine tasting. There is zero tasting fee - what a bargain There are picnicking spots there as well.

My lasting impression of Eagle Ridge was that it was a place filled with really friendly and knowledgeable people. The setting is very quaint, imagine a big barn on top of a hill. I loved all the fun, artsy items around. I felt like this was really a place where I learned a lot about reds and wasn't made to feel embarrassed at all. There were sure a lot of great wines to choose from as well.

Best wine ever. Does anyone know if they are still selling their wine? Owners that ran this winery were awesome people.

So that to me means it's top of the line membership as indicated by their pricing and what we get. So I feel I should get top notch deals, pricing and service. Turns out, we get the same shaft as the lower club members. Starting with the good, the location is pristine. Nice area with lots of room for kids and adults to mingle and play. The wine is also pretty darn good. Of course there are some better than others but I enjoy most of their wine. The service is also for the most part very good. The waitstaff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Their food is also pretty darn good. It's not incredible, and a bit overpriced but it's fine enough. Their wine pricing is also fair (but of course with the highest membership we get the biggest discount). My biggest complaints would be the price gouging and lack of communication. We made arrangements on a Friday to show Sunday with 6 and asked for the "VIP space upgrade to lounge or upstairs Vista Patio Lounge (when available)". They said no problem. When we showed on Sunday they said it was closed with no notice. Just a sorry. OK whatever. We sit inside (6 people and 2 children) and they charge for 2 children a "non drinker" charge of $10 ($5 each). A head count charge for non-drinkers? For children? Total nonsense! I am spending over $1,200 a year here and you want to gouge me for someone's kids? Their tastings are $40 a pop which is really crazy. Our price is waived on this so that's fine but if you are not a member you are paying a lot for a little. The wines do take a bit of time to come and they don't give you a lot. Kind of a bummer waiting for the taste. We ended up with 4 appetizers (sliders $24, Charcuterie $25, Tater Tots $12 and Pretzel Bites with Grilled Sausage $16) 2 bottles of wine and $4.25 for water and the bill was over $250. Oh and top that off, with 6 people, they charge a mandatory 20% on the bill for a tip and are basing that with taxes (as the button default), not the actual sub-total so they are actually getting about 23%. All in all, I am not sure that the cost is worth what you get. I mean we are giving them a lot of money just to be members and then having to pay more and more for anything else that really should be included (like water and kids) makes this place just a bit too over-rated for me. Probably end my club membership in the fall and go someplace that doesn't place money first.

This place is really beautiful, with fountains, gardens, vineyards, and cabanas. As I entered, the staff was really friendly and immediately offered me a glass of wine. We had reserved the entire outdoor cabana area, but since it was raining, we moved the party indoors. The indoor area is really nice with wooden tables and fresh flowers. What's nice is that we can bring food in, so we had food doordashed in. They also have games like corn hole and jenga available. It was a wonderful afternoon of eating, drinking, and walks around their vineyards. My coworker said she has attended a wedding and a birthday party here. This is a great venue for a special event. It's not as large as Concannon or Wente. It's rustic and charming. I'm not a wine drinker, so I can't comment on the quality of their wines.
