Best wine ever. Does anyone know if they are still selling their wine? Owners that ran this winery were awesome people.

What a rollercoaster ride it was to get up to the tasting room, a medium hill, a big hill, then a journey between the vines. If you think you're driving somewhere you shouldn't be, you're probably in the right place! The tasting consisted of 8 wines and was complimentary. When we were there they also had two ports the were pouring in addition to the menu. You tasted standing up at the bar, so it was a fairly quick tasting experience. Unfortunately I wasn't too crazy about any of the wines. Everyone else I was with did end up getting a bottle, but none for me. The tasting room was a large barn. There was a lot of old-school memorabilia and collectables in the building. At first glance it looked a little cluttered, but the more you looked at the items individually, the cooler it was. The view from the hill was really pretty, either way you looked you saw rolling hills and lots of wines. We were here in the winter so the vines were all empty, but I'm sure it looks beautiful in the summer when they're full! read more

Again, I am no wine connoisseur. If I was to have come to Eagle Ridge Vineyard in a group where no one had wine tasting experience, I would have been a bit uncomfortable. It was quite the scenic route to get here, like a literal rollercoaster. lol The view was absolutely stunning! It was a bit smokey that day but I can only imagine how beautiful on a clear day. After going through a few hills and questioning if I was at the right location, we found the tasting room. It is a green-ish barn located next to a residence. I was unsure if this was someone's literal property!!!! lol Very nerve-wracking. The barn itself was filled with a lot of collectable items, it wasn't my favorite thing. It felt cluttered and dusty. It was a tad odd after coming from a different tasting. There was no where to sit and seemed more rushed. The tasting was complimentary and consisted of 8 wines. This has been one of my favorite local wineries, so sad they are closing :( They have everything I love about a winery: talk directly with the owners/winemakers, free tasting, unpretentious farm feel like in Europe where you can relax and aren't being elbowed by 'grams trying to snap pics that seem they are at an Italian villa, just chill down-home enjoy the wines & views and they even let friends split cases and charge each separately. They are open the 1st Saturdays of the month only now & giving big discounts on cases. read more

First off, I have to admit, I didn't really "love" any of the wines here. Of the 8 or so reds that we tried, there may have been 1 Cab, and maybe one Petite Syrah that I found decent. Just basic food wine, good red fruit presence with grippy young tannins. Nothing to bust out on a special occasion. Yet some of the pricing is delving into the "special occasion" realm. Unless you go for their lower end stuff ($20ish), most everything else will be over $30 and some approaching the $50 mark. But in their defense, I noticed this at other neighboring wineries as well, so it could be just keeping up with the market. But at these prices, you can certainly find much better stuff at a store/on line. But when you buy at the store, you will not to be able to sip on the wines amongst the vineyard and the people who make it. That is the price you are paying for when you go tasting/purchasing at the winery. So there is that. The digs: -Quaint farm-like environment. You have to drive through the steep hills crawling with rows of grape vines.. Gravel parking lot, porta-potties and farm machinery. Cool in my book. -Metal barn that serves as the tasting room. It also doubles as an antique gallery so you can browse about whlist sipping on your glass. It looks junky, but there are some cool old shit up in there. -Lots of wines on their tasting list. More than 12! I had to scale and edit what I really wanted to taste, other wise my mouth would've puckered out. 6-8 is way plenty. -Free tasting. Yes, that is not a typo, it cost nothing. You will never find a place in Napa/Sonoma that does this. They used to, but no more. Livermore is on its way to that, but you can still find a handful out here, that does it the old school way. -The Mad Cait is a white dessert wine that is pretty unique. Peachy, slight citrus with an earthy and heavy finish. It is quite unique. Pairing this with grilled stone fruits over vanilla ice cream and honey this summer. -Spring time and maybe late autumn will be the best weather months to venture out. In my recent outing it was a perfect 70ish degrees, with a slight wind and a cloudless blue sky. We just sat on their makeshift patio for literally an hour, just chilling. In deep summer months, it will be waaayyy hotter, with hot wind. I'll pick and choose. So this may not be top on your list when venturing out here in Livermore Valley, but certainly consider it. It is charming enough to warrant that opportunity. read more

Eagle Ridge was first on our impromptu wine tasting trip list, and since it is the farthest out on Tesla Road, it is a perfect starting point and then you can drink your way back. They are open from noon until 4:30 and offer free tastings of ~10 wines, mostly reds and two ports. We were the only ones there at first and it was nice to chat with the friendly winemaker while tasting their delicious wines. Eagle Ridge is celebrating their 5th anniversary next month and offer up wines made only from Livermore grapes with the first harvest from the own vineyards in 2009. The stand outs to me were the Pinot Grigio and 2005 Petite Sirah. We left with a bottle of each. They get bonus points for complimentary snacks - including cheese and crackers, palate cleansing crackers, and dark chocolate to enjoy with the port. Overall, a wonderful and scenic first stop for complimentary wine tasting in the valley. read more

The owners are super friendly and wine is pretty good (says those who were drinking) They were very accommodating to even us Designated Drivers by having water & soda to drink while everyone was wine tasting. My lasting impression of Eagle Ridge was that it was a place filled with really friendly and knowledgeable people. The setting is very quaint, imagine a big barn on top of a hill. I loved all the fun, artsy items around. I felt like this was really a place where I learned a lot about reds and wasn't made to feel embarrassed at all. I had a good time hear, the hosts are very friendly and offer a great experience. We didn't know this before coming there but the wine tasting is free and they pair it will various snacks. I'm not a huge wine drinker but I thought their offering was very generous. I liked almost every wine we tasted, especially Petite Syrah and the Mad Cait. There's plenty of seating with nice views of Mt. Diablo and the countryside. I would definitely come back here again next time I'm in Livermore. read more

Eagle Ridge is East of Greenville Road near Boa Ventura Winery and Les Chenes in what's fast becoming my favorite area of the Livermore Valley Wine Country. They relocated from a smaller property that now houses Page Mill Winery up to the much larger picturesque hillside location where they now reside. Right now, they have two wines and both are wonderful. They have a Pinot Gris and a Petit Sarah...I preferred the Pinot. For a new winery (they've been open for about 6 months), the wines were great. They're open the first weekend of the month (same as Boa Ventura). Stop by Eagle Ridge, Les Chenes, Boa Ventura, Charles R and Bodegas Aguirre and you'll have a very nice day of winetasting all within a stone's throw. read more

The first time my bf and I somehow ended up at the far end of Livermore and ended up at Eagle Ridge, we've been coming back every few months or so to pick up our wines (from joining the wine club at the first visit) and to purchase more wine. I don't think I've ever been to a winery that offers free tasting and at 10-15 pours each. We've been wine club members since our first visit as we were really impressed with their wine and have been members for a year now. Every time we stop by to pick up our wine, they still pour us free tastings. The wine maker seriously knows how to make wine. His Pinot Grigio was the turning point in making my bf appreciate white wine. The wines that are offered are very palatable and encompass a wide range of what every wine drinker may enjoy. Nothing is in your face super dry or sugary sweet. The tasting room itself is very quaint and reminds me of someone's grandparent's living room. No frills and no fru fru. Go to Napa if you want some fancy tasting room. He makes delicious wine and that's all that matters. He seems to have put quite the effort in presentation of his bottles and packaging as they are one of the best packaging I've ever received from any wine clubs, better than what I've received from Napa. *Remember to tip your wine server, they are the nicest bunch! He commented on weekend traffic: "People think Greenville is the end of Livermore. There are 6 wineries after Greenville!." Cellar Door 2013 Pinot Grigio. Light golden color. Ripe tropical flavors: pinnapple, mango, creamy texture. Primary flavors: fermented pineapples, medium acidity. 2014 Pinot Grigio. Lighter golden color. Ripe tropical fruits: sweet mango, sharp acidity. Less creamy texture. Nutty finish. 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep ruby. Some browning oxidation. Decided to hit up a Livermore winery before doing some damage at the outlets. We came on Mother's day and they gave out yummy chocolate covered marshmallows to all mothers (really to all women :p ). Had around 12 tastings (if I can remember correctly, the order was: 2 Pinots, 3 Cabs, 3 Zinfadels, Raptor, 3 Petite Sirahs, and finishing with a dessert wine). Very friendly pourers that seemed very knowledgeable about the wines. They have no tasting fee, which is really nice! Although I think this is definitely a smart business strategy - it gets more people in their doors and then pretty much everyone will buy at least one bottle! To get to the winery, you drive up this little dirt road and down a path right between the grapes growing which was pretty nice. They provide cheese and crackers, chocolate morsels, and clam chowder crackers - not sure what these are called. Cute knick knack store that is fun to peruse while having your tastings. There's also some quaint outdoor seating. You can bring your own picnic, get some wine, and have a nice lunch during nicer weather. My favorite wine of the 12 pours was hands-down "Raptor." This is a blended wine of zinfadel, cab, and petite sirah. Highly recommend Raptor! read more

Eagle Ridge Vineyard is a wonderful family-owned winery that has amazing wines. We, as a family, visit to enjoy the wonderful wines, incredible views and simply the warmhearted friendliness of their family run business. Their "Gem" wine is MadLyn ~ it is the best dessert wine EVER!! I'm told it is named after the owners granddaughters. What a legacy to have!! My personal favorite is their Pinot Gris ~is an excellent wine. My Hubble's favorite is the 04' Petite Sirah "Private Reserve"... he says "it is simply marvelous!". There is always a pairing of fabulous dishes to compliment their wines too. My family has had a membership here since far before I turned 21. Now that I've graduated from begrudging DD to 23 year-old wine fanatic, I can totally see why we always visit Eagle Ridge when we go tasting. In a renovated barn, without the frills and pretension you can find even out here in Livermore Wine Country, Eagle Ridge is a breath of fresh air and a glass full of incredible wine. I'm a red wine lover, and Jim can make a red wine unlike anybody else! He will talk you through each wine you taste (usually ends up being an impressive spread of around 10-15 wines!) and let you compare and contrast. Expect mostly straight varietals and less blends here, which is especially good if you're a wine tasting newbie and would like to taste each grape independently. We really enjoy being members here, because they do a catered event every so often that is truly fantastic. I'm allergic to gluten, and after the first time I went, the catering company remembered my allergy and has set a special celiac-friendly plate aside for me each time. You can't beat that level of personal customer service! This place is also very dog-friendly, with the employees also bringing their pups to work. That makes an amazing experience even better! read more

Eagle Ridge is a hidden gem, with excellent reds being served. The Petit had the most amazing smell and went down very smooth. The view from Eagle Ridge goes on for miles, I could even see the freeway from the top of the hill. Quiet as could be, the sky was an intense blue, the breeze just perfect, and the wine warming my soul. A must in your wine tasting adventure! read more

Stopped by a few weeks ago after a long day to see Jim and Dan at Eagle's Ridge. Dan co-owns Dante Robere, which uses the Eagle's Ridge tasting room that Jim runs. I really like these guys; I hadn't been by in about a year but they recognized me and treated me like an old friend. It was end of day and after the customers trickled out we just drank wine at their bar and BS'd for 45 minutes.They remembered I used to bike out there and asked about my girlfriend - really nice people. It sounds like most of these folks have been there forever and in fact Jim is a retired Livermore Policeman and Real Estate Agent. This is more a review for Dante Robere, as I've written several for Eagle's Ridge. Dante Robere shares their tasting room until theirs opens soon a bit Southwest of here closer to town I think. Dan is a straight-shooter who takes life and wine with a no bullshit approach that I really appreciate. You can tell he's passionate about what he does but he isn't unapproachable or snooty as you may find in the wine culture sometimes. The wines are very good, very reasonably priced and span a variety of varietals (say it 3 times fast!). Try the "Dante's Inferno." I don't think they charge for tastings - they've never charged me. If they do charge, I'm certain its $5 or less and you can apply it to a bottle. I give it 5 stars because it has what *I'm* looking for, although I want to clarify it is the opposite end of the spectrum from Concannon or some of the more "Napa" style vineyards. You go for the wines and the company here, not a multimillion dollar villa or the expansive manicured grounds. It's right up my alley, though. read more

First time here they were open on a Friday after Thanksgiving. Owners a husband and wife were pouring, the husband was especially friendly, a retied cop who now sells real estate. Very pretty property elevated on a hill a little out of the way which probably doesn't help with business. Tasting room is nothing fancy its in a large warehouse has a lot of interesting things, antiques and things you can buy inside. Tasting bar is small. Owners were generous with the pours. We liked about half the wines so not bad overall. They also serve crackers and cheese and chocolates, nice touch. Bought a few bottles of their cab. They have such a nice view its too bad they don't fix up the outside and create a nice patio area to sit and enjoy the view while you taste and move some of the junk out of site. Overall a decent stop but not a place I would make a point to return each time we come to Livermore but I can see making an annual stop to try new varietals each year. read more

Eagle Ridge is actually two wineries under one roof. When visiting you will be tasting Eagle Ridge wines and Dante Robere wines. The first thing you should probably know is that tastings here are ~FREE~ and by the end of it all you'll have sampled a good 12 pours or so. Dan (of Robere) and Jim (of Eagle Ridge) are the owners and wine makers and just two of the nicest guys you could hope to encounter. Tastings here are fun and casual and between the two wineries and the many varietals they produce, you're almost sure to find something you like. HIGHLY recommended. read more

Stumbled upon this winery almost literally since it's way back on the property. Driving over hill and dale was actually quite fun and paid off in the end. The two wines they have available are both very good for not having been bottled and cased yet. The Pinot Gris is ready to drink now and the Petit Sirah might need a little more time in the bottle but it has great potential! The wife even had a harvest spread set up in the tasting room complete with extra tasty pumpkin treats including a gingerbread pumpkin parfait, perfect to fill up on after a long day of wine tasting. We told her she should sell them but on further investigation trying, we think she took it from Paula Deen. We did sign up for the email list so we can know when they start selling cases. What a fantastic stop! The tasting room is something we would compared to antique shopping while wine tasting in Livermore Valley. But don't be fooled there is far more character in the wines and the antiques. They are pet friendly, water bowl and doggie treats, A great New York cheese for sampling, and now onto the wines! We started with a beautiful Pinot Grigio and worked our way through a Cabernet, Zinfandel into their estate red blend, Raptor, and finished with the Pinot Grigio port. $5 tasting fee, six tastes, waived with purchase. Yep tastings are free - the experience there really is unpretentious with nice people. It's a great setting that's a bit off the path as you turn and take the dirt road going down than up and to the left to the barn. You walk in and are welcomed to nostalgia. My boyfriend and I are on a quest to try every tasting room in Livermore. We are about 90% complete, and Eagle Ridge was one of the few we had yet to try, so we stopped this past weekend. It's one of the farthest out from the rest of the local vineyards, but the place sits atop a hill with a stunning view--totally worth going towards the end to see. The actual tasting room is in a large barn-like shed and is decorated with a lot of old antiques that the owner has collected throughout the years. There are a lot of interesting stories behind them that he would be happy to share with you while you sip wine. The owner was very friendly The tastings are free! A rarity now in the Livermore valley. I have to admit that I was not a fan of their Syrah, but their Cabs are very tasty. I'm a fan of Pinot Grig, and I would have bought a bottle of their Pinot Grig if I hadn't already spent my wine money for the day :( All the more reason to come back again! read more
