    New York Steak with Pasta

We celebrated our sister in law's birthday at one of our favorite Italian restaurants Paesano's in the Waimalu Shopping Center. Good thing we made reservations a month ago, they were very busy last night. We especially loved the House Salad with pickled vegetables, chunks of Parmesan cheese, and a wonderful vinaigrette. For entrees most of us ordered the Special of the Day a Ribeye Steak accompanied by Shrimp Ala Bolla. We also ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca and the Scallops alla Scampi. Everything was perfectly prepared and tasted wonderful. I have to mention that our server was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of tables he had. Service was not up to their standards last night.

The cross section of some of the best lasagna ever! No place on the island offers such a good lasagna

The service is quick, polite, and professional. Everything is so clean and it smells SO good with the Italian food cooking. I even love the sounds of glasses coming out wine getting opened and people chatting without it being too loud.

Great hospitality and attentive to our large group. The meatballs, chicken with portobello mushrooms, and eggplant parm with chicken cacciatore were great. Enjoyed the sorbet too. Delicious bruschetta on toast and house salad. The calamari scampi style and chicken piccata was only decent. The wine butter sauce was off. Can't figure out what was wrong. Not enough butter, wine not cooked off? Added red pepper and lots of Parmesan cheese but it still was off.

No reservation? No problem! Service is always attentive and on point. Place is very spacious although, feels a bit dated. Server was efficient and order placed promptly. Cold Antipasto ordered and portion very generous. Love the cheese and anchovy placed on a mountain of lettuce and picked veggies. The dressing always does it for me. A tangy vinegrette that's not to overwhelming but, compliments the salad well. Did I mention the bread? Fresh, hot and so moist! Yum! P Scallops with snow peas and pasta... yes please. Buttery and lots of snap in the peas. My only want? Is to sear the scallops. They were however cooked well. Very tender. It was a very good meal and would definitely return.

So, Waimalu Paesano is related to the former Paesano from Manoa. Same owners, same menu, same friendly atmosphere, same, same, same. Paesano is located in the Waimalu Shopping Center, south side parking lot across from Safeway Stores. Why would you go here? Especially if you're from downtown Honolulu? Because it's a good half way point if you're dining with others from the west or north side of the island. Because the Establishment is nice, clean and local. Because the food is decent. Because, because, because. We each had different entrees but shared the roasted pepper appetizer and we were blessed with a complimentary bruschetta platter for us. Price point comparable to there Italian flairs in the area, let alone the island. Parking plentiful (well, it's a shopping center so would expect nothing less) Best part of dining here? The camaraderie! And we weren't rushed.... Our waiter was the greatest. Left us alone, stopped by only when asked to stop by. Another visit? Yup! (and those who know me would ask why am I going west passing the Airport Viaduct? ... because!) Nuf said

7-18-2025 Big mahalo for Terry K who generously rounded us up for lunch in Waimalu. As soon as you enter the heavenly smell of garlic hits you in a good way arousing your taste buds and heightening your choice of selection. I almost wanted to ask our server what's the most garlicky item you have. Parking is no problem in the shared lot. The restaurant is a nice choice for friends, family, business associates or even couples to dine in. The roasted red pepper appetizer was moist, tender and delicious especially placed on a buttered slice of bread that was brought to our table in a white napkin covered basket. Our server also brought a nice tasty surprise, on the house bruschetta for each of us topped with a calamari ring over something liked a good pickled salsa- it was excellent but eat it fast cuz the juices soak into the middle of the toasted crusty slice. Ooh, if that was on the menu I'd select that. Some of us wanted to try something different from our regular choices of Italian food. We each had a doggy take home container for our left overs. Unfortunately The garlic on two of our entrees were a bit overcooked giving the dish a bitter taste. Another had pretty much the entire shrimp and vegetable untouched. The fourth person and host had the best looking dish out of the four. Our male server was professional, very patient as we practically closed down the restaurant for their lunch service. He refilled our waters and even the female runner that brought out our food was cute when she asked if anyone wanted cheese to top their dish. Very popular restaurant as many tables were occupied as two of us entered at 11:15 a.m. Leave room for dessert cuz the menu looked very tempting but no takers today. Maybe another time.

Chicken parmigiana. Generous serving for a small order.

My wife's auntie invited us to have dinner with her family while we were in Oahu. Paesano is located in a medium sized strip mall so finding parking wasn't a problem. I was surprised to see it looked more upscale inside than you would think based on the outside businesses surrounding it. We were seated promptly and service was very good. They came by frequently to make sure everything was ok. I wasn't overly thrilled with my chicken parmigiana due to its bland tomato sauce. My wife and daughter kept telling me to put more parmesan cheese in it but I already had and it couldn't salvage it. The chicken itself was fine and the portion for a small order was extremely generous though. My wife thought her chicken marsala was quite good so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give them 4 stars. My daughter also liked her dinner so maybe I just made the wrong choice. They wouldn't mind coming back but I'm still a bit iffy. It will be a while before I return to Hawaii so it doesn't matter much. They will be returning to the islands before I do.

Really enjoyed Paesano for lunch! Appreciated the smaller portion options that were perfect for us for lunch. Service was great, and it's a nice place and decor in an unassuming strip mall

My wife's favorite place on Oahu for Italian food. Chilled ambiance with friendly helpful service. Even the owners will come by to make sure everything is alright with your meal. They have a full bar with wine and spirits if you enjoy a cocktail with your meal. Lots of free parking. So call, make your reservation and enjoy this dining experience for yourself. Support local

    Calamari piccata
    Adrean H.

It was a busy night, we were able to grab a last minute reservation for 5. The kitchen was backed up, but we enjoyed a comped fried mozzarella while we waited. Chicken Bella was the winner on this visit, my Calamari piccata was a bit underwhelming (it's my fav and order often) but again, I think it was due to how slammed the kitchen got. This is our go-to Italian in the Aiea/Pearl City area...a great place outside of the hustle in town. Service is always stellar, if you haven't been, go!

Bruschetta - Perfectly crunchy and seasoned; slightly sweet sauce drizzled over

5 stars for the service. 4 stars for the food. We had a lovely evening at Paesano's last night. Once you step inside, the restaurant feels much more intimate and inviting than its exterior suggests. The warm ambiance and beautiful decor were a pleasant surprise - especially since I've driven past this spot countless times over the years! I'd definitely return to explore more of the menu, but here's what we tried this time: - Tossed Green Salad - Bruschetta - on the house (a nice touch!) - Veal Scallopine Alla Sorrentino - Linguine Chicken Anchovy Olio (add capers) Each dish was beautifully presented, but the flavors were a bit hit-or-miss. My veal pasta, while well-cooked, was quite bland, even after adding extra cheese in hopes of bringing out more saltiness. My wife enjoyed her chicken olio, but we both found it unfortunate that the crispy skin was plated face-down, causing it to soften before she could fully enjoy its texture. That said, the service was truly exceptional - prompt, friendly, and incredibly attentive to the table service. The hospitality alone makes this place worth a visit. Overall, a great experience, and we'll be back to try more!

Came here for a birthday dinner & it was nice!! Food was great. Service was nice & ambience was actually peaceful. Couldn't get pics of our foods cause we were starving but I managed to get one of my cannoli.

Complimentary Side bread two small loafs. Really simple but delicious

    Has the price updated recently?

Yes prices on the menu were current. We just went there a couple of weeks ago.

Are they closing down for good?

I called the one I go to in Aiea and they are remaining open. Thank God cuz it's definitely delicious! The rumor you speak of is the one they closed in Manoa.

Is the lunch entree portions considered a small or regular size portion?

The lunch entree's are similarly sized to the small portion at dinner time. During lunch hours, your welcomed to order the dinner regular size if you'd like a larger portion.

Slightly hidden amongst the surrounding of Kaka'ako is La Cucina Ristorante Itlaiano for many though I knew of this place for quite some time since I do have frequent Imperial Plaza for many other biz found here. The restaurant is located on the grounds floor inside the lobby area and can be easily missed for it's simplicity but those who knows it's a place to visit. To do so you must make reservations and it's online by e-mail only and it was a process for me as it's their primary way of communication along with presetting your order as well especially for braised items that requires 48hrs in advance notice. We didn't select those items but have decided to preorder our starters which is their Insalata di Casa which is a lovely simple salad with Italian vinaigrette and some fresh tomatoes and Bruchetta which is also another simple item but until you've tried them it was very crafted and delicious that was wonderful start to our meal. To share we decided on the Rigatoni Bolognese though they were out of Rigatoni and offered us Pappardelle instead which I was fine and Ravioli Zucca and from what I understand the Pappardelle is house made and it was just the perfect consistency and the bolognese was a delicate sauce that went perfectly together but the Ravioli Zucca was just as amazing. Stuffed with Butternut Squash and my favorite vodka sauce is paired with Italian sausage and garnished with sliced almonds and Italian parsley it was such an elegant bite. This spot is very small and cozy so you must wait outside to be called to your table which they set up for you before you're seated and parking is validated in the building though I did find street parking which is free as well after 6pm but the vibe here is very calm though many do come here as groups and it can get quite loud at moments though the staff did very well to course our starters and entree which is nice as the table is small and won't find much at the same time. I do appreciated the time it takes to prepare the reservations though must admit it was quite different to make it all work and see that it's all done in ways that you have very little wait for your table and your food as well and just loved how it's all crafted to make it a balance of harmony for us all. Thank you!

If you really think about it, it's actually the fanciest type of restaurant in the area. Don't let the laid back entryway fool you, this place is certainly housing some of the best food. Making a reservation is definitely recommended if possible but walk-ins are taken if you don't mind waiting for a table to clear if its busy. That being said, the experience can vary depending on your server and the amount of care that you're given during your meal. The food is always exquisite and I've always been happy with the quality and especially the amount. We went there to celebrate multiple birthdays in my family for the month of April and not remembering how large the "Large" size plates were, I essentially had enough food to bring home for leftovers. I decided to choose the Chicken Saltimbocca and the house red wine for my meal. The menu is pretty extensive and has truly something for everyone. The caesar salad is made table side and always comes out great, definitely a recommended part of the meal if you're on a date or with family who'd all like to partake. The wine menu isn't as big as some other fancy places in Honolulu, but more than satisfactory to accompany your meal. I think that this is a great restaurant to visit if you're in the mood for an experience that is more intimate without having to drive closer to downtown. While it has the menu, look, and experience of a higher end restaurant, you can always approach it with the comfort of a longtime local spot. With the right expectation going in, it can really deliver and is recommended.

In short, you ruined my birthday. This was the WORST dining experience of my life (I'm 62 years old). I ate at your restaurant in 2022 and the food was very good. What happened? Where did your chef learn to cook Italian food? I ordered the sautéed zucchini and it was smothered in garlic and swimming in oil. Never seen anything like it. I ordered the "carbonara" and it was unlike anything I'd ever seen in my life. You should Google carbonara and see if you find anything even remotely close to what you serve. Big, raw pieces of onion all over, big chunks of something that I guess was supposed to be ham or bacon cooked at varying degrees of done, and again swimming in oil! My wife ordered the Shrimp Assaggio. The description says it's fried in garlic and"light olive oil." Guess what? Yup, swimming in oil. Then the waiter comes by and asks if my wife would like Parmesan. What? On seafood? In what universe? I told the waitress that I had never seen carbonara like this and was very disappointed. She kinda made a face but no words. When she came to ask if we wanted dessert, I told her, "After this?" I went on to explain why I was dissatisfied and she couldn't have cared less. I really regret not sending the food back and leaving. Again, totally ruined what should have been a nice birthday meal. If I could have given the food 1/2 a star I would have. If you're going to serve Italian food, I strongly suggest hiring a chef who has a clue about how to cook Italian food. I will never subject my family to this "Italian" restaurant again. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

All of the server staff was super attentive. My husband and I both chose the prix fixe menu. It's $125. Every dish was excellent!! You have to get the squid ink pasta, truffle pasta and the lamb chops. My filet was also cooked perfectly. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of their menu.

The restaurant validates parking, $8 for 4 hours, tip not included. For my son's 18th birthday he wanted to eat pasta. After looking at many Yelp reviews, we ended up making reservations at Taormina. Unfamiliar with the menu we decided to do the five tasting course. As of 4/22/26 the base price is $125 and depending on what you choose, there are some add ons. For example the carbonara was +$25 and the Ricci di mare was +$18. Food: the Focaccia bread was free and comes with free refills. The salmon with caviar was really good. It had the perfect balance but very small, about 1.5". The next dish was the baked abalone. That was also very delicious but two bites and it's over. At this point, we were starting to think we would leave hungry. The next dish was the pasta. We tried both the carbonara and the Ricci di mare. Both were very good. The carbonara came with freshly slices truffles and thick crispy pieces of bacon. Highly recommend for truffle lovers. I'm not a huge uni fan but surprisingly the Ricci di mare was also really good. Of note, the pasta in the five course tasting is half the size of the regular order. Even at half the size, I felt the serving portion was good. I felt satisfied but not full. The next dish was the main course so filet mignon and monchong. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly but I personally didn't like the sweet sour balsamic vinegar taste that was drizzled over. I would have preferred it to be more savory. The monchong was okay but a little overcooked for my liking. The portion size of the main course was good. Lastly was our desert but to our surprise, they brought out a nicely written happy birthday platter with half a lava flow desert and a small scoop of ice cream. My son really enjoyed it. The creme caramel was also good and reminded me of flan. Service: the waitress did her job but I personally felt we had better service entering the restaurant and being seated. She had no smile, did not offer any recommendations, and no small talk which is fine but noticeable. Our bill came out to $463.87 tip not included. Though we really enjoyed the salmon and abolone I'm not sure it's worth the price and the extra three bites. Next time I would just stick with the pasta. If we had just ordered the full order of pasta our bill would've been $195.

With their…read morerecently revamped menu, the restaurant feels fresh, exciting, and perfect for everything from date nights to celebrations and business dinners. We started with the seafood appetizer featuring mussels, clams, prawns, and focaccia bread for soaking up every bit of the flavorful broth. Standouts throughout the night included the chef's oyster selection, big-eye tuna with Calabrian tuile, and the hamachi over crispy rice. The real star, however, was the famous Cino Pinwheel. All of Cino's pasta is made fresh in-house, and this dish absolutely delivers -- stuffed with ricotta and topped with seasonal truffles, it's rich, comforting, and easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had recently. New menu additions like the Half Kampachi with oreganata, upgraded King Crab Pasta, and Agnolotti del Plin all showcased how balanced and refined the new menu has become. Beyond the food, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between upscale and welcoming. Great service, beautiful presentation, and a lively energy throughout the night made this a memorable dining experience. Overall, Cino is the kind of restaurant that makes you start planning your next visit before dinner is even over.

Server Sarah came over almost immediately, asked if we wanted any water or if we were ready to order other drinks. Asked for water then perused the cocktail menu. They don't list beers, whiskeys, or bourbons they have, you need to ask, but have a wine list in addition to the cocktail list. Once she gets our order (for anything) she immediately turns so there's no chance to ask questions, she's extremely efficient, not overly friendly. It was Mother's Day so not sure if it's always like that. Drinks were good. Guys ordered beers (Sapporo) gals ordered cocktails, Cino old fashioned for me (Four Roses Bourbon, Angostura Bitters, Jasmine, Orange bitters) and it was very good. Daughter ordered Blood Moon (Tequila, Cointreau, smoked chili liqueur, lilikoi, blood orange, agave, lime, Bittermans Hellfire Shrub), it had a little kick from the chili liqueur, not overly sweet, with a pretty color. Ordered beef tartare, made with fillet mignon (not raw, more like very rare) and coarsely chopped instead of scraped, w/egg yolk emulsion, capers, served with tapioca puff (like giant shrimp chips without shrimp). It was good, but the filet could have been chopped more finely. We also ordered crispy garlic potatoes, it had Parmigiana, and was yummy. Mains: guys got the Scallops with shrimp and fennel risotto. Scallops were good, but the risotto was still crunchy and not cooked enough to be truly creamy. Daughter got the Agnolotti del plin, with artichokes, mascarpone, lemon, ricotta salata. Good but not outstanding. I got the House aged roast duck, leg was confit, breast was roasted, w/orange sauce. Breast was very good, leg was not as tender as it could have been for a confit. Flavor was great. Entrees do not come with starch (unless it's a pasta dish). SIL ordered a twice baked potato, it was huge and good. Dessert was tiramisu (really good) & mini donuts w/some kind of sauce & sprinkles. Not sure because there was no menu, just a verbal description by Sarah. Overall experience was good, food was good, may return and try other dishes but not sure.
