Parking lot was full, which considering it's out of the way location was a good sign. The staff was friendly, and BUSY, it's a store as well as a restaurant, really is. Set up like a diner/ store combo inside. Nothing fancy. At all. Then you read the menu..... Yeah, this ain't no general store burger joint. I am very picky about food, and when I got the pancakes here it felt like I was eating in heaven. It was moist and fluffy, and there was enough for leftovers! Outside you also get a gorgeous view of the river and on Tuesdays it's not that busy so you can be sure to get a nice seat! read more

Pack River Store never fails to impress. The chef is the key to this establishment. His new restaurant in Hope Pearl is equally impressive. I do wish they always had the Prime Rib sandwich on the menu since we only visit on occasions. But the salads and sandwiches are excellent. We tend to sit outside in summer so the temps get warm and sometimes there's the pest off of the river but enjoy watching the birds. So ambiance is above other locations. Service tends to be decent, you grab your own specialty soda from the refrigerator. Worth the drive and checking out if you have never been. read more

I visited the restaurant for breakfast at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025. It was moderately busy, with a few open tables, so it didn't appear overwhelmed. After realizing it was a seat-yourself situation and that we needed to check in at the store counter, a server arrived within a few minutes to take our order. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. We waited over an hour without receiving any food. During that time, we noticed several larger tables that had arrived after us being served well before. Eventually, we flagged down a server to ask about our order. She responded that she'd check and that it should be out soon. But she passed our table several more times without any update or acknowledgment. After more than an hour of waiting, we informed the same server that we were leaving. Her response: "Okay." No apology. No explanation. No effort to salvage the experience. To add to the frustration, this same server had been sitting and eating with what appeared to be friends or family for nearly as long as we had been waiting. I fully understand that staff need breaks too, but if the kitchen is so backed up that guests are waiting over an hour for basic breakfast items, it's not a great look to see a staff member leisurely dining in the front of house. In short, the service was inattentive and dismissive, and the overall experience left us frustrated and hungry. I hope this was an anomaly, but based on this visit, I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

We have been eating at the PRS for 20 years. Never had a bad meal until today. Breakfast took 1 hour to be served and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The biscuits were so overcooked they were inedible. The over easy egg was so undercooked the egg white was clear. The sausage patty was "puck like". Our waitress Kate was very sweet. No one dared send their food back because we had already waited an hour. The new French toast is not even close to being as good as the old French toast. We miss the old menu and the quality we used to rely on. Alex, please go back to the good old simple PRS way. read more

Woowza! I ordered the BLT with a side of onion rings. The bacon is hand cut and the mayo is a homemade basil mayo that tastes out of this world. The food hit the spot and everyone at the table loved what they chose for lunch. Nice hole in the wall located right inside the store and I highly recommend. read more

My wife and I were at a gardening class at a nearby farm, and this little store/restaurant showed up in the middle of nowhere. They are right on the river, so we had to stop by! What a unique and fantastic place! I had the Turkey Crunch, and my wife had the amazing fish tacos! So good, and the location is incredible, but it's hard to imagine how such a great restaurant is at least 20+ minutes from a town (standpoint), and it is unbelievably top-notch! The location is charming, with tables on the river, under a covered deck, or inside. Everyone loved the food. The store is nicely packed with great items and lots of prepared food. There are many beverage choices, from wine, beer, and every other type of soda, etc you can think of. Go out of your way to stop by here, even if it takes you an hour. We've enjoyed breakfast and lunch so decided to try one of the special monthly dinners. They are fixed menu many course meals presented monthly. This month was "Pescatarian" with 7 courses plus dessert. There was a variety of seafood delicacies starting with fresh raw oysters and ending in a steelhead Wellington. Everything was delicious with very creative seasoning and presentation. Alan, the chef, was available to help with wine selections available for purchase from the store display which is added to the bill without corkage fees. Not inexpensive but definitely worth the cost! Allow for several hours. We were surprised at how fast 4 hours passed. read more

I can't believe what a gem this place is!! My husband and I have been to The Idaho Club several times and while it's good, Pack River Store is out of this world! My husband got the tortellini and was 10 out of 10!! The creaminess of the dish was melded perfectly with the flavors and the bread completed the dish! I got the Thai Curry Shrimp dish and it was delicious. Don't wait as long as we did to try this place out! Not only do they have large portions (running $17-21) but also sandwiches, salads and soups. We split the chowder and it was also amazing! Can't say enough about the place. They also have a wide selections of beers, canned cocktails, wine, water, etc. we're going to the once-a-month tasting in a couple of weeks and we're looking forward to it. read more

Yes, it's basically a small convenience store that serves food and it's off the beaten path and no where...convenient, but that's part of the charm. They offer indoor seating, covered patio/porch bistro tables, outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas, and a nice granite bench facing the river. They also have one antique gas pump for unleaded! This place is good enough to BE the destination. I almost hate to review it so as to not reveal this secret for the locals' sake. Get the special! I KNOW you'll be returning and the regular menu will still be there next time. Now I like good old fashioned home cooking comfort food, enter actual culinary education to enhance it...O.M.G.! The exact words from Robert(the person whom said he would have tacos every day if he could)..."I would GIVE THEM UP for this prime rib sandwich. It's the best damn sandwich I've ever had. I've been to 5 star steakhouses that couldn'treplicate this!" I have NEVER heard him utter such blasphemy! I had the BBQ cheese curd burger with my carmelized onions on the side. We also ordered a basket of garlic cheese fries. This is definitely for the garlic lover as it was abundant and fresh! Huge portions here folks so bring an appetite or take home leftovers. NOTE: Here's where the food review ends so feel free to go...read on if you'd like a little more TMI type story. First off, I have been wanting/waiting to try this place out for quite some time. Oddly and unfortunately enough, fate (or Murphy) reared it's head and gave me a kick in the pants where it became necessary to do so. You see, they also offer showers there for a mere $3 a person. It's a well thought amenity considering all the Summer river floaters. Our well pump went out two days prior. Now, I used to live in the big city (Rathdrum) and was used to taking a shower a day or every other day. (Stick with me here, you'll understand my point in a minute.) Since I've moved out to the sticks of the Priest River area, I find that I've turned into one of those people I used to see out and about and wonder if they knew they needed a shower or couldn't because they were homeless. ‍ When you own property the projects can last days. What's the point of showering if you are going right back out there and you are working from sun up to sundown and you don't plan going anywhere or seeing anyone? So, with that being said, by this time I was in dire need of breaking the hair helmet I have created and endured. (I had the feeling JUST the day before the pump went out that I should take a shower too! I should have listened to that little voice.) It was HEAVEN! You don't realize or remember how glorious something so simple as a shower feels until you can't have one. Come prepared though as it's just that, a shower stall, a bench, 4 hooks, and a full length mirror. Don't forget your soap and towels. There is no outlet for a hairdryer and the exhaust fan doesn't work so crack the window. You might also want to consider a piece of duct tape or heavy hair clips to secure the shower curtain so it doesn't stick to your legs. LOL The water is as hot as you can stand it, but I suggest dialing in your perfect temp BEFORE getting in. If your partner is showering in the adjacent room, have a little fun if you finish before them...futz with the knobs trying out how hot or cold the water can go and listen for the cries of excitement from the next room! Seriously though, we were very grateful for this service as none of the campgrounds are open yet and they are reserved for guests only. The Sandpoint YMCA never returned our call, and 3 mile truck stop was a lot further to go. To sum up what is my wordiest review yet, don't miss! read more

Great little gem hidden back behind the golf course east of Sandpoint towards Hope. It's been around for decades and serves amazing food with an even better beer selection. We have had property near there but never knew about this gem. I would highly recommend to check it out for lunch and a brew next to the Pack River! read more

I've waited a long time to leave this review. I've eaten here many times over the last few years since they've changed the place. I've tried almost everything on the menu for breakfast, and none of the breakfasts have been good. Today I had the country benedict, and the gravy was literally disgusting. I couldn't eat it. I ate several bites, trying to give it a chance, but I couldn't continue to eat it. I just ate my potatoes and left everything else on the plate. I will not be going here for breakfast ever again. The lunch menu is good though. I like their patty melt a lot. Their fries are great, and the turkey crunch is great too. The staff is always very nice and the service is good. What it has going for it: - great food - pricing on par with similar establishments - portion size on par with similar establishments What it has going against it: - needs a renovation So this is a typical country general store. Only difference is that they have great little restaurant incorporated into it. Menu has all the typical favorites for this area. I am guessing the chef/cook is professionally trained, cause I never had a bad meal here. Amazing food by Cordon Bleu chef Alex Jacobson and his wife Brittany. Don't be fooled by the backwoods country ambiance of this 'general store'. The regular lunch and dinner menu is filled with amazing sandwiches, salads and entrees. If you're lucky, you can get in on one of the regular tasting menus for that 'Big Night' experience as the good chef walks you through each course and a complimenting wine is served. We searched Yelp for out of the way delights and came across this gem. Did we have the perfect experience? No, but the way they handled everything more than made up for the imperfections. First, the county was doing roadwork, so their trucks were parked such making it a challenge for us to park our small RV. It wasn't apparent to us where the entrance was, so we wandered around a bit (it's on the right side of the porch!). To be seated outside on the patio or porch, you need to let them know, so they can get you menus and ensure the table is clean. You can also order from the counter and eat inside or take it to go. The menu is extensive and you can build your own sandwich and get breakfast all day. I like that they provide a carafe of water. If you want anything else to drink you go into the store and get it - we picked up a can of Arnold Palmer tea. The Hubbs ordered the fish tacos and I got the Crispy Turkey sandwich. We split a basket of sweet potato fries which were the best we've ever had. And you pick your sauce, so we tried the black pepper aioli which was awesome! The sandwich was amazing and even messier because I added avocado! My husband failed to note that there was cilantro in the slaw on the fish tacos, which bothers him. He ate one and then we swapped meals. The server noted that and insisted on taking the tacos off our bill - even though I finished the basket! It was fun chatting with a few regulars and the servers were friendly and fun, even though the place was packed and we were asking a lot of questions! Well worth the drive! read more
