This was one of the first places my family and I went to when we were relocating to North Idaho. In fact, we met with the previous owners of our home over breakfast at Connie's to discuss the purchase of what is now our house and ten acre lot in Bonners Ferry. That aside, Connie's has become something of a standby for us, particularly in the summer months when we frequent the nearby City Beach. The atmosphere is reminiscent of vintage Denny's and Lyon's restaurants (when I was growing up, my family either owned or managed both, so this place feels like home when I'm there). Like the Hoot Owl, my favorite menu item is their Ranch Burger, which mixes barbecue sauce with a red wine vinaigrette (as opposed to ranch dressing at Hoot Owl), and served on a toasted sourdough roll. Their bacon is very thick and very crispy, with a dash of black pepper around the edges for added flair. Prices are reasonable to what you would expect and portion sizes are generous, with lots of steak fries or hash browns or whatever your pleasure. I'm not big on breakfast, but fortunately they seem to serve lunch all day. Service has always been very friendly and efficient, although if you go on weekends (particularly Sundays), they can be obscenely busy and once or twice this has meant longer waits for seating and service. They're very kid friendly, and have been very accommodating when our son occasionally picnics his McDonald's Happy Meal to the table. Parking can be a little tricky out on the street, but they're very well situated on the corner on Cedar Street, adjacent to and actually connected to part of the eponymous Cedar Street Hotel, and there's plenty of parking on adjacent streets and lots with a short and relatively pleasant walk to the premises. I'm usually reliant on cellular data for any internet needs while I'm there, but chances are you're there for the food more so than lightning fast upload/download speeds so head on over and enjoy your meal! read more

Service the last 2 times we were in was beyond bad. The first was for dinner a week ago. We waited 6 minutes to be seated while 2 waitresses were at the cash register trying to figure something out. Once seated after another 5 minutes of being ignored, the busser brought us coffee and apologized. Another 10 minutes went by before we saw a waitress to take our order. 30 minutes later we finally got our food which was barely warm. We got a refill of our coffee 15 minutes before our meal and nothing after that. Today we went for breakfast. We were seated immediately and our waitress never showed up nor did we get our coffee for 9 minutes. She took our order right after. It took 20 minute after our simple order was taken before we received it, and once again no refill of coffee. For homestyle food that's very tasty and fairly priced, breakfast lunch and dinner, this place is great. Plenty of comfortable seating, even at the bar. Friendly waitresses and great coffee. My only complaint is they desperately need a hostess to greet people, seat them and take their payments. It can sometimes take 10 to 15 minutes to be seated and there is no waiting area. The waitresses have to do that because the bussers don't do anything but clean tables. read more

The food was cafe food, yes, but it was fresh and well put together. Zero issues with it and the portions. If you leave hungry, you must be a lumberjack. Service was great, terrible with name, but our server was on it, with humor, and WAY busy. Handled it like a BOSS. It has a small town diner atmosphere, with the correct (normal) decor, but the atmosphere did not give you the hint of how good the food was. We need to make this our regular spot for Bloody Mary's. We were really disappointed at another local establishment, so we decided to try Connie's. We sat outside and listened to the music at the Sandpoint Farmer's Market. Our waitress was busy and still did a great job. The Bloody Mary's had veggies, the perfect amount of spice in the mix, and very reasonably priced for a double. We also ordered the Poutine and she suggested the brown gravy. Sometimes it's a real nice place. Sometimes I am not to pleased, I think a lot of it depends on the waitress. That means management is not paying attention. If the food is cold or the lettuce is brown that is the waitress' fault. She should be the last set of eyes and it's their responsibility to govern the cook. Same with attitude. Customers don't see the cook or dishwasher. It's her job to see the food is correct and the table and silverware is clean. Not all cooks or dishwashers are perfect so the waitress needs to be diligent. Then all that is left is the waitress and her charm, attentiveness, attention to detail. Remove salad plates and soup bowls before the main course is delivered, keep water and drinks fresh. And talk to the diner's. This is a waitress's job. All this falls on the manager to be able to pay attention and fun the restaurant. Good management takes a walk around the eatery every hour at least. Nice location, nice atmosphere, seated quickly. And it all went downhill from there. I initially thought I got the wrong order, it was just hash browns and two overcooked eggs. It was supposed to be corned beef hash and over-easy eggs. I questioned the server and she insisted that the beef was in there, that it's run thru a grinder and very small. Been to Connie's plenty of times but mostly for lunch and dinner. Had breakfast with the family this morning before golf today. Breakfast pretty good. Bloody Mary's were pretty good as well. Service was great. Waitress was extremely nice and attentive for it being so busy. Sat in the bar area and it's your pretty typical small town bar. We stayed next door at Cedar Street Suites so Connie's location is perfect. Nice little patio for outdoor dining. Their burger is very good and the pepper bacon is excellent. From omelettes to french toast to pancakes, their breakfast is spot on. You won't go wrong with Connie's. read more

This place is a great throwback diner. It has the traditional front room, a bar/lounge back room with pool table, and a pleasant patio, with umbrellas and partially shaded by a tree. Food quality is pretty good value for the money, and the menu is varied enough that anyone could find something to eat - even their kids' menu has plenty of options. The food isn't the best you'd get anywhere, but it's reliably good, and portion sizes are generous. The only real downside of this place is the lack of staff, which makes service slow to a crawl on busy weekends - though those present are cheerful, and obviously working hard. read more

The place was slammed when we got there so I have to take that in to account. We were seated rather quick after an awkward greeting from the hostess. A waitress came over and seated us. We were not able to order our food right away. It was about 20 minutes after being seated. The waitress we had was running at least half of the establishment with no support. I had the chicken fried steak. It was really good. My mom had French toast and she said it was good as well. They used to sell crepes in the 80's and 90's. They no longer do and that's sad as they were the reason a lot of people went here. The coffee is good and they have kept this place very diner ish and original. Can you please stop Serving old greasy hashbrowns that were from the day before and just reheated in grease. Very poor experience unfortunately was seated in a booth by another booth of very loud customers loudly talking politics and how much they hated liberals. Update 4/21/22: Finally had breakfast for once. It may not be most people's choice and simplistic but in my opinion, oatmeal can be easy to screw up. This wasn't just flat rolled oats either...we're talking the consistency of barley. Nice chewy and wholesome. My wife and I were exploring Sandpoint and decided to stop into Connie's. The atmosphere is very comfortable, serve staff are friendly and prompt. I ordered the Ranch Burger with a side of potato salad, and I was not disappointed. Plating was very well set and food was cooked to order. A few of my menu favorites include the Buffalo chicken ranch wrap, the Asian chicken salad, and the Mediterranean pasta. The back patio is lovely during the summer. Overall: The food tastes good. I'm vegan and there are only two breakfast options here and none are on the menu. The price is astronomical for casual dining and the quantity did not leave me satisfied. The waitresses I've had here are extremely friendly and attentive. Food & Price: I order 2 sides of hashbrown and grilled "breakfast vegetables". The flavor was great the quantity was meager. The cost was $14.05. The hashbrown for $6.50 was fine but I was very disappointed in the grilled vegetables. I got about a half a cup of vegetables and charged $6.75 to add them on. So I'm obviously not pleased on the portion sizesize for the price. Of course I still tipped, so it cost abut $16 for some hashbrown. I could have eaten 2x as much. So for a second chance, my wife got oatmeal and that cost $12.99+tip. The menu says it's $7.75, but if you add fruit on top it's $4.50 for some 6 banana slices, a few blueberries, and one strawberry cut up. I think they should have some vegan menu items because the receipt made it look all nickle and dimed. What I described above was 9 line items. The waitress didn't say the price and I didn't ask but I didn't think fruits and veggies would almost double the price and still leave us hungry. Perhaps I would've been less critical of the price if I knew what to expect up front, but being surprised at the end ruined the experience for me. I'll still probably be back because they do know how to make hashbrown very well, but that is all I'm ordering. I think non vegans would enjoy the traditional American cuisine here and the menu is transparent for the average person. read more

Understaffed (who isnt these days. But, you shouldnt seat more people than you can handle). Food was not good. $18.75 for very underwhelming nachos- stale chips, chunks of dry chicken, dried out beans, and cheese that wasnt even melty or hot. We sent them back, but the replacement wasnt much better. Took 20 minutes or more for a replacement dish- others at the table had already finished eating, and no offer of a discount. Table next to us had an issue and had it comped. Connies has been around for a long time, but if they want to stay in business, they need to improve the quality of their food and service. read more

The server was very nice and that is the only reason I am giving 2 stars. The food was just awful. We got the vegetarian burger and the vegetarian eggs Benedict. Soup that came with our meal was cold. I was extremely hungry so I ate it anyway. The eggs Benedict was greasy as the hollandaise had separated. The veggie burger was pretty tasteless. We ate everything, but it was only because we had been on the road and were very hungry. One more thing; the decor in there looks like it needs a serious update. Party of five. Took over an hour to get seated even though the servers kept saying 15 / 30 minutes. Finally got seated and our food took over 45 minutes. French Fries were cold when food finally arrived (they were only lukewarm when they got remade). One order was missing toast. The chicken bacon ranch wrap had limp lettuce. Server was fairly quick and was friendly but not very attentive and never came back to ask how our food was. Had to constantly flag someone down for refills on coffee and hot chocolate. Prices were average but considering the wait, definitely not worth it. Totaled over 2 hours and staff seemed to think it was OK. My advice is to find another restaurant. So we are local to this are and we are fairly limited on our choices here. Today we ate at Connie's cafe again and again the food came out cold. I don't know why they can't figure this problem out . My hubs orders beef nachos and the cheese was already solid and dry. Beans looked like they were scooped right out of the can. Gross today I got a French dip which was decent the au jus was hot but the sandwich was barely warm very disappointing. Fries were ok. Today is the third time I have left connies without ordering. today they said their kitchen was closed so we decided to sit on the deck to have a drink. Well they kicked us out because we had someone under 21 with us...outside on a deck they said since the kitchen is closed they're now a bar. Last week I came to get lunch with a friend and we waited for 20 mins without someone coming to our table so we left and went somewhere else. Connies has new owners and I was hopeful that would make them better but they aren't even considered a family diner anymore in my opinion. Scratched this place off my go-to list. Two stars for the delicious homemade mashed potatoes, but the good review stops there... First, there is absolutely no mention on their menu, Yelp, or Google that they don't serve breakfast all day so that was frustrating to find out after you walk in. Second, we received one small glass of water with no refills our entire meal. I ordered a drink immediately and it finally came, after I had already asked for an update 3 times and then finally canceled it. Third, the beef pot roast was overly fatty and all the "meat" left on the plate is just fat and gravy. I stopped in to grab some to go food for my three kids and I. We stayed across the street at the Cedar Street Hotel and suites. Very efficient and not to spendy. The bartender even threw in ketchup and plastic ware without being asked. I sat at the bar and had a beer while I waited and it was less than 30 minutes. It was clean and seemed like a nice place to hang out. There is live music some nights too. read more

A few weeks delay in writing this review. This place was very busy on a Sunday morning. Our group of five waited for quite awhile for our order, but the waitress was very good. The place is understaffed for sure. I had the eggs bacon toast and hash browns and everything tasted great, however, I did ask for the butter on the side for the bread and they did not do that. The bread had waaaay too much butter on it for my liking. It's just white bread and was very dry and seemed stale to me. The hash browns were very good, however, the other people in my party had house potatoes and they were mushy and barely cooked. They didn't eat them at all. The interior of the restaurant looks like you're in the 50s and needs major updating. I won't go there again because there are a few other good places to go to for breakfast. read more
