Good food and reasonable prices for a mountain restaurant. Staff was friendly when we were there.

I'm so surprised this restaurant has 3 stars. My son and I are skiing Schweitzer, in from Los Angeles, and we absolutely loved our meal. They have a good-sized menu -- lots of options -- and many things you don't find many places. I had the bacon-and-wagyu meatloaf which is a specialty and it was awesome, and for dessert we had a creamsicle cake which was off-the-charts great. Plus the service was top-notch. They spaced out our apps and dinner with just the right amount of time, never felt rushed, it was truly a perfect meal. read more

Stayed in the lodge that houses Chimney Rock Grill. The food here was good enough to not need to eat anywhere else the entire 10 day stay. The bartender Tim was great in his expertise in wine and whiskey variety as well as great conversation. Definitely underrated from our perspective. Try it. Both chicken and pork were spot on. Service good and very friendly.

Chimney Rock is a lovely restaurant in the Selkirk Lodge. It has a nice menu with Pub fare and entrees plus soup & salads. We were seated right away and enjoyed our drinks while waiting our entrees. We had an excellent server, who answered all our questions and made good recommendations. The food was delicious and we were able to get to go boxes for the leftovers, most of us belonged to the clean plate club. We passed on dessert. The only issue, we had was that we had to wait 45 mins to get our check. The server was very busy and there was some issue with register. It sort of soured the experience for some members of our group. i'll be back there are a few items to left to taste. read more

The salmon cake appetizer was generous and great (I asked for extra aoli though!) but my entree of creamy chicken and rice was flavorless. The staff was very friendly and attentive. My husband's steak was a little undercooked but he made it work. I'd go back but might stick to ordering something less complicated... like a burger or chicken sandwich. We had 3 meals here in early February so I have a good idea of the quality and service at the restaurant. We also had the buffet breakfast every day that was included with our room. The bartenders are all very friendly. Sit at the bar and strike up a conversation. They take pride in their drinks and I saw and tasted several good concoctions. Between a friend and I we had the prime rib, NY strip, fish special, venison pot pie and the salmon. It was all very good. The table service was average. The attention to detail on the food preparation was excellent and the food quality varied. Let me explain... The NY Strip was prepared wonderfully. The piece of meat, while very thick, had a lot of chewy parts in there tough to get through. I ordered it medium rare. Maybe I just had a bad cut, it looked like a winner otherwise. $28 The prime rib did not have flavor that blew me away, but it was also very well prepared. Sometimes prime rib tastes incredible. Sometimes it just tastes like meat. The fish specials (both dinner and a sashimi appetizer) were excellent! They take pride in getting FRESH SEAFOOD Fedex'd in to them a couple times a week and it was all very good. So, if they have a fish special, definitely ask about it and if it came in that day it's clearly worth a shot. I think there was Mako, Nalu and something else in fresh...one thing each day we were there. I normally stay away from seafood this far from the ocean, but they had it dialed in. The salmon, which is a regular item, was just okay. Not bad, but not a real tender flavorful cut. The other items were good as well. We also met the woman who manages it and seemed to have a lot of pride in the place. She didn't tell us who she was, but after she left the bartender let us know. I think some of the bad luck people may have had here in the past was due to chefs who no loner work here. So, you are going to pay a premium because it is the only "fine dining" restaurant at the resort. However it is not a fine dining restaurant, but it is a very good restaurant. Much better than average and if you ask good questions before ordering you shouldn't be disappointed. The "free breakfast" that came with my room is just okay, but I guess that is to be expected on a buffet. There is nothing interesting up there, but there is a lot of variety. The Tully's coffee they serve is excellent. read more

Stopped here for an early dinner. Food was excellent. The burger was the best I've had in a long time. My wife had the fish and chips that was also very good and my daughter had the beef stroganoff which she enjoyed. The service was also very good as our server was very attentive. read more

Beautiful facility with impressive young bartender. Selection of beverages for wine and cocktails the best but beer selection so so. Food menu very limited but I'm sure that's the season. View is grand. Very glad they're open this time of year. read more

It was fine but wasn't really impressed. We started off with ordering a few beers but about 3 of the beers we were going to order they were either out of or tapped out which was a little disappointing. The food was average, pretty simple and nothing special. I got the buffalo chicken blue cheese sandwich but I got it in a wrap. It did have a pretty good amount of chicken in it which was nice. The fries were good- hot and crispy. My husband got the mansandwich which looked liked a good option with the amount of meat on it. He said it was good and basic. Then my dad got the fish tacos and said the we're fine but nothing special. When I come back up to the mountain I'll probably try something else just to see if there's something better. read more

I was asked to leave Chimney Rock Grill tonight because I had the audacity to expect some level of service. In all fairness the lady who may have been our server said she had a problem with me before. That is correct. On a previous visit when she served us I did not tip her. I tip for service. We arrived around 7pm at the front door where the sign says; "please wait to be seated." We stood and waited for five minutes while this lady chatted with the table right next to the hostess stand. A simple, "someone will be right with you" would have gone a long way. Instead it was like we were invisible. After several minutes another gentleman came in and suggested that on Sunday night we should simply grab a table. We did. He came over and chatted with us for some time while we waited for our server. The nice young busboy [Mark] brought us water and menus. Mark is exceptional. After quite some time this waitress came by, not to offer us a drink but rather to say hello to the gentleman who was regaling us with stories of Schweitzer. She seemed to have time to chat with every table and every person but not time to offer us a drink. We own a place on the mountain and go to Chimney Rock every Sunday night. We bring our families. Never have I been treated so rudely. This person works year round and what I have noticed is that if she knows you, service is okay. If she does not know you or dislikes you one could starve. This weekend we had lunch in the bar on top at the Sky House [The Nest] twice and had the same server on both occasions. Matt was exceptional. When we went to the Sky House bar and Matt was busy, he stopped by our table and simple said, I'll be right with you. He was. Matt did not stop to chat aside from necessary pleasantries required of a server. We ate at Chimney Rock several Sunday's ago and had Ken as a waiter. Ken was tremendous. An excellent server. We ate dinner at Chimney Rock over the holiday. While I do not remember who our server was I do remember we sent our meals back because they were cold. I was in the restaurant business of ten years. Stuff happens. I get that. What I do not get is why Schweitzer continues to employ this terrible waitress / bartender. Clearly we will not be back. read more

Had dinner here while staying at the White Pine Lodge. If you are staying at Schweitzer, your options are limited since there are only a few places up here. They represent that they are the best, but the dinner was pretty disappointing. The halibut was suggested as being excellent, but overall it was just ok. Lots of different flavors fighting each other, the sauce was overly sweet, and the fish was dry. My son ordered fish and chips, which was very greasy and over-breaded. Popped in Chimney Rock Grill for some apps and some drinks while getting all the ski school worked out. Service was friendly and helpful from hostess to servers. Went with edamame and sweet potato fries to start. Edamame was the star here. Very different treatment than the plain old steamed method. Very tasty. Had the club sandwich as an entree and while not breaking new ground was a solid plate. Nice beer and wine selections. Price points are higher but you are on a mountain. read more

After reading the other reviews, we hesitated to eat here, and almost drove in to Sandpoint even though we were staying on the mountain. I am very glad we ate here! I would definitely go back, and I am a picky reviewer of restaurants. We had a great experience eating here for two dinners, on a Sunday and a Monday evening, not during a holiday. First the food: both nights I ordered the salad bar which was very well stocked with the usual items: 3 kinds of lettuce/spinach/mixed greens choices, beans, all sorts of veggies, hard boiled eggs, cheese, sunflower seeds, croutons. With a bowl of soup: $10.95. Hard to beat that! My husband ordered a full dinner course each night, and enjoyed each dinner. First night a salmon pasta, second night meat loaf. Generous servings, included soup or a trip to the salad bar. Homemade creme Brule was great too. Lots of beers on tap in the bar. Decor is very nice with two areas with a fireplace. Friendly service. On Sunday the restaurant was pretty busy, but it was slower on Monday. They were adequately staffed. Service could have been a little better but it was fine. I can see, however, at holiday periods they might not be able to adequately staff the restaurant, so I cannot speak to that situation. In that case, you may want to avoid the busiest holiday dinner hours and eat inside the ski area instead- we had some yummy lunch food inside the base lodge cafeteria. read more

Waited for hostess or any staff to acknowledge us. Took appx 10mins before we saw someone to seat us. This was a Sunday night and there was maybe 7 tables occupied. We waited for our dinner for appx 40mins but found out it wasn't ours but the table next to us. We only received one of our entrees & had to ask for our side salad. Our second entree was halibut & it took additional 20mins. The staff seemed to disappear to the back & we would only see them when they brought out the dinners to the table. The busser was the only person actually working & refilling water. The table next to us ordered a glass of Syrah & we ordered a glass of Pinot Noir. I saw the waitstaff pour from the same bottle. read more

Went to Schweitzer to check out the resort in the off season. The place was empty. Decided to have a drink at Chimney Rock. Kellie was the Manager/Bartender and she was AWESOME! She is a small town girl from Priest River that believes in herself. She has worked her ass off, become the manager and treated us incredibly well!!! No attitude, no attitude, no attitude! I very generously give them 3 stars. We had a very poor experience with the manager of the restaurant and another one of the staff. We were told the wait would be an hour. That was perfect fine, they were busy and we understood. 2 hours pass and no table for us. Other people are being seated after have arriving and only waiting a few minutes. I tried to have a reasonable conversation with her and her blatant disregard to the poor service was alarming. The food and beverage manager came over and we had a private discussion and I could tell that he was contrite and he did what was necessary to turn the experience around. If only he could get his crew to follow suit they would run like a well oiled machine. read more

ugh. What a waste. Its hard to even find the words to describe what a horrible experience it was. where to begin....... My husband and I had just returned our snowboarding equipment and were STARVING, so we went to the "nice" sit-down restaurant suggested to us at the rental place. HORRIBLE decision. They seated us fairly slowly, but that is not the issue. The issue starts with our obviously over-whelmed and possiblly in-experienced waiter. He wandered over to fill our water and we placed our order-- calamari, two small ceaser salads, an IPA, a specialty cocktail, and fish & chips as our entree. About 10 minutes later, he starts coming over with my cocktail and when he was about 10 feet away I noticed something in the drink... hmmmmm... what's that long dark thing.... OH A HAIR. He begins placing it on the table as he's explaining to my husband that the IPA keg is not working right now, but they're trying to fix it, so it'll be a while(we understand). I point out the EXTREMELY long hair floating around the inside of my drink, he quickly takes it away and says he'll get me a new one. I mean... if i noticed it before it even ARRIVED at our table, he should have noticed as well. Another 5-10 minutes pass by and we've recieved our apetizer and shortly after, our salads. The calamari was pretty good, and the salad would have been too if it hadn't been so offensively over-salted. Both my husband and I had finished our waters long before our appetizers were finished, but did not get a re-fill. ever. We started noticing that everyone that had arrived after us had already been served their food, and were happily chatting and eating away. My husband is usually a pretty patient person, however, something about all of these things must have REALLY set him off. After waiting another 15 minutes he hunted down our waiter, cancelled our drink orders (still hadnt been served) our fish and chips, and asked him to ring us up for what we already had. I almost felt bad for the guy, but reviewing it now, I definately do not. The restaurant had a decent amount of buisiness, but also had plently of staff, there is no reason for the complete lack of customer service that we received that day. Good food, TOP NOTCH service. MENU prices were reasonable so my wife and nephew got the specials, which werent on the menu, and just about had a heart attack when I saw my bill!!!! But the steaks were cooked perfect, and they let me tie my dog up to a D ring at our table. Only complaint if you dont like potatoes then you cant eat any sides as your choices are french fries, sweet potato fries or potato chips. UGH! Other then that the service and the food deserve 5 stars! read more

Here is to a great year, with my hopes rising, and a new chief, best of luck! So the place has been on a "slide for life" downhill the past 3 years and when I thought it could not get worse, it was. NOW it has a totally new menu. I saw the last saving grace from the past (fish & chips) that I liked and my waitress informed me that they are now made with fresh cod! I ordered the night special baked cod with onion salsa on top of pesto penne pasta. I was delightfully surprised. Fish tasted fresh and the olive oil left on the plate was great to mop up with the bread (organic?) Apparently the bread rationing of the past has stopped since I was asked if I would like more by the waitress and hostess. Yes, even the hostess checked in with me which I thought was very hospitable. Side salad I ordered had a great presentation and for you Lighthouse blue cheese fans it is back. Apps start at $8 and sandwiches at $13 with main courses are $17 for veggie to $35 for 14 oz prime rib. I don't drink but wine list looked good. My thoughts are prices about the same to maybe $1 more, but portions got bigger, and if they can follow through with taste, with the service always being a lock, then look forward to a return to fantastic. read more

Nice place to warm up and relax while skiing at Schweitzer mountain. There aren't many food choices so expect the prices to be high. We had the calamari, sweet potato fries and the chicken sandwich with quinoa salad and cocktails. The fries were ok and seem expensive although it is a decent sized serving. I recommend the quinoa salad for a side - very tasty and healthy. The chicken sandwich didn't blow us away but anything warm will taste pretty good when you are coming off a cold mountain. read more

Every year it gets worse, new culinary lows. This season they managed to slice prime rib into a wafer thin 1/4" cut, slap it on the back of a crushed potato, garnish with a forkful of burnt kale and then have the audacity to charge $28 for this pathetic excuse of a dinner. Oh yes it did include a "salad bar", providing a 6" plate and 12 of the 15 garnish canisters empty. I've never seen an ahi tuna steak sliced 1/2" thin before, rendering it impossible to cook rare. The wine list was an outrage, bottles I knew to be $12 retail selling for $50, and they eliminated corkage so you can't supply your own. No drinks, no wine and no desert came to $158.00 for four dinners. Service however was excellent. read more

This is your best option if your eating on the Mountain. The staff is very friendly and it probably has the most space for groups as they have a room in the back you can reserve. Some of our group is vegetarian so it was nice to see some options on the menu. It's def a bit pricey but if your looking for a nice dinner on the mountain, i'd suggest you come here. Keep in mind most of the restaurants on the mountain close early so you won't be able to have a late dinner. read more
