I had a great time here! My family won a tour of the brewery from something I don't remember but we got to see the inside of the brewing area, got to learn about the brewing process, and how Matchwood is unique in their process. One of the owners, I believe Kenden (I hope I'm not completely butchering his name) gave us the tour and he was extremely nice, friendly, and hospitable. All of the waiters and waitresses were also very nice and tbh have great memories since they were remembering a bunch of beer flight orders perfectly. I definitely remember their Berliner sour as my favorite beer personally, it was really great. I'm writing this review after we went so I can't remember the other beers I had super well but it was a fair consensus within my family that all of the beer was good. Another great brewery on the Idaho Chimney area and in Sandpoint! Steve and I both really enjoyed the German Pilsner from the brewery! All made out of German hops this delightful straw colored pilsner is great to relax with at the height of Summer! With a nice, biscuity, clean and balanced flavor features this beer is perfect for lighter, quality beer. The location is pretty walkable if you are in the downtown area and parking isn't too bad but I come saying that from a large city perspective. read more

A solid place to eat/drink. Good vibes, beautiful, bright, huge space. Great places for large groups to gather. You order at the front counter when you walk in, get a table number, and then they bring out your order. They have a wide variety of beers and a little bit elevated brewery food menu. We each got one of their flatbreads, and they were okay. They weren't either of our favorites but we didn't hate them either. I'd be curious to try some of the other items on their menu. We held a rehearsal gathering at Matchwood for our son and daughter-in-law and I am so glad this was their choice! The environment was just right in the upstairs loft allowing for a bit of privacy in this cool brewery. The food and drinks were awesome and the service was excellent. Thank you to Andrea for her attention to detail on the menu and to Rose for unbelievable service. We had incredible hors d'oeuvres, including Wild Alaskan Salmon Cakes, Beer Bites, and Buffalo Cauliflower. Our dinner buffet was tacos with two salads, including their signature Beet and Arugula. So happy I stopped here! What a cute little place this was! Me and my mom were driving from Spokane to Bonners Ferry for a graduation and decided to stop here to stretch our legs and enjoy some libations and snacks. The outside and inside seating area is rustic and quaint. I ordered a flight, my mom ordered a cider and a pretzel and we set outside to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I loved every one of the four brews I chose, my favorite being the wit beer. The pretzel was homemade and SOOO GOOD! Such a shame. What could have been. One of the worst customer service experiences ever in any dining establishment. 4 people out of our 12 person order (mind you we were with hungry kids) got their food which was absolutely amazing! The rest of our party however took 20+ minutes for us to ask where it was (the first 4 had already finished their dinner). We had asked 2 separate staff members where our order was and they said they would check. 10 mins go by and still no food or indication of what was happening. Staff lied and said their "fryer had a problem" while some of our first orders needed a fryer... During this time while inside, one of our party overheard one of the staff near the kitchen JUST THEN putting in our order saying our order needed to be rushed as it wasn't even started yet. This was 1/2 hour after the first 4 had gotten their order. They could have just been honest saying our order got lost. Then they "made it up to us" by offering 2 free ice cream cookie deserts which they brought out to us in 85 degree weather not 2 mins after they finally brought our food order. Would have melted had we not asked them to please keep it in the freezer until the rest of our family had finished even eating. We then had to ask to get the ice cream sandwiches after we all finished dinner even though those were meant to be a "sorry for our mistake" thing. Brought enough for 8 out of our 12 person party. Again, GREAT food and great atmosphere. We were all prepared to purchase shirts and other merchandise after our meal (which we ended up not doing) We get it, mistakes happen but this review is about staff and the handling of an obvious mistake and how there are so many other ways of handling it better. I read some of the posters and was interested in the event. I sent my girlfriend a video of support I knew she would love it. On our first COVID dining out experience, we were greeted by one of the owners - who was outside, tidying up landscaping and helping with table service - like a good owner does. The outdoor ambience is beautiful - cozy if you want yet spacious enough to enjoy live music with a table of friends or family. Their systems are polished and every staff was friendly in their service. My college aged daughter raved how a college town would 'eat this place up'! So - it must be cool too! The new menu is AMAZING! Our table of four enjoyed the shrimp ceviche tacos, bruschetta app, and the Reuben, grilled salmon and spicy chicken sandwiches and all were VERY good. Beer? Great selection and I could even have wine! The commitment Matchwood has made to their guests and their community is obvious. The uptick and investment in the outdoor dining area provides a lovely gathering space with plenty of room to move. Matchwood is a few blocks from Sandpoint, a small lake town in northern Idaho. I had heard of the town before arriving and had high hopes of pristine nature next to the lake, and I was not disappointed. The town was a little smaller than I expected, but I don't think I would want it to be any bigger for fear that it would turn into Coeur D'Alene. This type of town is the perfect setting for Matchwood Brewing. The brewery has a large interior but its outside space is where it really shines. It appears to be an abandoned industrial building that was repurposed for brewing. The area surrounding the brewery looks like old farming or logging equipment, but it's so old that it's hard to tell, plus I don't know enough about either industry to know what the equipment should look like. Either way, it provides the perfect backdrop eating and drinking. My chicken sandwich with fries were high quality and so was the light IPA. The real winner and memorable food item was the fries. They were almost like curly fries, except that instead of the bouncy fries you find at sporting events that appear to have the elasticity of a slinky, capable of taking on a full flight of stairs, the Matchwood fries were actual fries, in that they would break apart when bent, highlighting a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. I was trying to determine if the chef had purchased a novelty fry cutter or if he had simply cut the potato using superior cutting skills. It meant even more to me because I had just finished reading a chapter in a book about how to make the perfect fries, which require two separate soakings at different temperatures to have an even cook all the way through but still end up with a crispy exterior. I'm not sure if Matchwood does two separate grease baths for their fries but they have convinced me that they know what their doing. read more
