We saw this restaurant while driving through town looking for a place to grab some lunch. The parking lot was full and that's always a good sign. We seated ourselves. Nothing fancy inside , like a diner that's been around awhile would look like. Seen many a customer! My hubby had a breakfast meal and it was huge. He said it was cooked good. I had a French dip , salad and fries. Nothing special. Just a bun with some sliced beef. Kinda plain. Wish it would have had some onions or cheese or something to make it more wholesome. We needed breakfast while traveling and spotted Chic-N-Chop on Yelp. The map location in Yelp didn't match up to it's real-world location - good thing we were watching for it. All those things aside, this is a fantastic place to stop for a meal and it's obviously a local favorite. Hash browns are the thing on the menu. The.Thing. You can get them styled any way you'd like. We resisted the temptation and ordered a variety of the breakfast combos. I did the half biscuit (which meant it came with just one biscuit) and gravy combo. It came with 3 lean thick cut strips of bacon (yum), an egg and a half order of hash browns. It all tasted amazing. The gravy was slightly spicy, like it was flavored with spicy sausage although the sausage was actually quite mild. The husband ordered CFS and eggs with a hot cake and half order of hash browns. The hot cake was amazing and the homemade apricot syrup on the side was too. The CFS was different than what we're used to having. The meat was lean and thick, minimal breeding, and it was covered with the sausage gravy used on my biscuits. Altogether, a winner of a breakfast. Service was a little spotty - we had to get our own coffee and water and menus - plus we waited for about 30 min to place an order. They were obviously understaffed that morning and we weren't in a hurry, so it was ok. read more

We came here because we really had a hard time finding a place to eat breakfast in Bonners Ferry. But on the way back to our RV park we saw this place and there were a lot of cars in the parking lot so we took a chance. I wasn't able to check reviews till we were already in the place, but the reviews were pretty good. My husband had the pork chops and eggs and I had the poached eggs on toast. Everything was cooked perfectly and I was amazed that they only charged a dollar for a cup of coffee!! The service was very good and attentive. I give them a solid 5 stars!! Although it is just a hometown diner with a no frills atmosphere decor but it was spotless and comfortable with delicious food and good service. read more

Ordered breakfast to go. Hubs got a waffle that wasnt very good. Needed to add vanilla and a little more sugar. He also got eggs and bacon which was ok. Thats hard to mess up. I got a scramble of some sort which I couldnt eat. The hashbrowns were anything but browned or crispy. They were soggy and inedible. It looked like a mashed up mess with way too much cheese in it. The biscuit gravy tasted pretty good. I should have gotten biscuits instead. Will try that next time. Would have been better with fresher ingredients, better potatoes and seasoning. read more

This is def a local's spot, the waitresses know most of their customers by name and know a little back history to boot. Known for their chicken and pork chops, these guys do breakfast well enough that its my pick for breakfast eats. Their meat is from Woods(local). Really great food and service for the right price, extremely affordable. Good place to have a slice of pie. I just had a lovely brunch at the Chic-N-Chop. What a tasty meal!! The prices are waaay cheap and the servings are decent. They have an extesive menu of "Hashbrown Plates" which are basically hasbrowns mixed with different things (ie bacon, green peppers, salsa, etc.) I had the Mexican Hashbrowns which were served with salsa and sour cream in addition to green peppers and onions. It was soo good, but the salsa wasn't spicy enough, so I had to kick it up a notch with some Tabasco. My friend had the Eggs Benedict and she commented that she could see the butter separating from the hollandaise, signalling to her that this was made from scratch. She said it was really good! The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is excellent. Service was good, but don't wait to be seated, just grab an open spot. At the time we went it was emptying out from the morning crowd, but I have a feeling that it gets pretty packed, there is not that much seating. If you have ever been through Bonners Ferry......you know there aren't a lot of food options. Luckily, this place delivered some tasty food. Service was prompt and prices were really reasonable. They must be doing something right to be going on 30 years of business. I have heard around town that they have the best chicken fried steak breakfast, we just couldn't make it into town before 11 am. Between our two visits we ordered the Chick N Chop special, Philly cheese steak, bacon cheese burger, and a club sandwich. They were all quite good. read more

Stopped in for breakfast while passing through town. The reviews were spot on - a great local breakfast spot! Enjoyed one of the many hash-brown combos. The food, service, and prices were all excellent! What really impressed me was the helpfulness of the staff when I discovered I had left my jacket behind. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed when I passed back through on my way home. When I called the following day, not only did they have my jacket but one of the waitresses was kind enough to offer to mail it back to me on her own time and even cover the shipping cost, trusting me to reimburse her later - THANKS!!! read more

First I have to say, the food, when I did eat it was EXCELLENT, a 5-star quality meal. The problem was their service. I went on my lunch hour (I work a late shift so around 6PM). There were maybe 3 tables. I ordered the fried chicken and pork chop (Hence the name, their specialty) and got the really quite excellent cauliflower cheese rather promptly. Creamy, smooth, delicious. The problem though, was my food. I waited and waited and waited. I inquired to my waitress, expressing my time crunch. I was especially confused as there were only a few tables. I was advised that there about 25 orders ahead of mine because they apparently do a brisk take-out business. So, about 10 minutes before I needed to be back at work the table that was seated after me got their food. I finally went up to the counter and said I was sorry, but I needed to go and to cancel my order. I was told that my order was now done (I had 5 minutes to be back at work and this is with a full hour for lunch) and I could take it out. I sighed and took the take out box and paid. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I was told I should really call ahead. Now, this is no fancy restaurant, and I no reservations were required, so it does seem that they do good enough business without me. The food was, as I said, nothing short of sublime and probably some of the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. We stopped by here while in town for one of our son's activities and it was amazing! We loved the small town feel - walk-in and seat yourself, open area, tables not too close together. We were greeted quickly and provided coffees and hot chocolate. Most of us got a hash brown combo and it was delicious. The meat was great, hash browns cooked properly, and the pancakes delicious. I have been here before as I was passing through Bonners Ferry for work travel. The food, staff, and prices have always been great. In addition, once a year the restaurant donates all the food and staff and ALL of the money from the spaghetti feed goes to The American Cancer Society. They have done this for more than 25 years!!!!! Bonners Ferry is not a big town with high incomes and still this restaurant gives back. I will always stop in and hope you will too. read more
