Atmosphere is arguably one of the most chic in Sandpoint - between slatted wood paneling, modern gold sconces, Quartz & wall-mounted floating tables, and matte black + olive green color palettes, the café feels luxurious without feeling cold. The staff is lively and friendly - no surprise - and service is FAST. My espresso was prepped & handed to me before I even clicked on the "Tip Amount" on the card reader -- if on purpose, brilliant, if not, certainly made it an easy decision to tip generously. The baked goods perched in window at the front counter - between croissants, banana bread, tarts, cheesecakes,... - are beautifully crafted and tempt even the LEAST sweet tooth's of us. They have an EXTENSIVE list of crepes (both savory and sweet options) and sandwiches, so if you come for a grind session, you have plenty of (seemingly tasty) food options to choose from. Prices...$2.75 for a double espresso is a deal, especially at a well-staffed / newly(?) renovated / luxury coffee establishment such as this. They really could raise their price two-fold and I'd still be happy (at least coming from Californian like myself). My espresso was served hot but not burned, with low acid beans which contained an obvious LACK of mycotoxins & mold (at least based on my amateur judgement; I am a good judge, though, as I am extremely sensitive with coffee beans). So with that said, if you are sensitive and need high quality coffee beans, do what I do and make Bernklau your morning coffee spot if you are staying or live in the area. A+ all around. Had a great lunch here today. Tried the Bardollino Salad the Tuscan soup and a beer. Great food! It is fresh flavorful and the bread that came with it tasted homemade. The food was excellent. The crepes that we had were amazing! We had the Pistachio Crème, the Lemon Crème with Strawberries and the No. 4 Ham, Cheese added an egg! All were delicious. We also had lattes three different kinds which were beautiful and delicious, very smooth. The service was also excellent. Met the owner, she was kind and friendly. The staff was friendly, returned an item we left behind immediately. Very attentive. The only thing we could say was it isn't FAST food and that's a great thing! We sat and chatted for a while. What an amazing new discovery in Sandpoint! We are from OC, SoCal but come up here every winter and after a few locals recommended this place, we had to try it. The ambiance is incredible: modern, cozy, comfy (you'll never want to leave) but the coffees and food were sooooo delicious and good! Very authentic European and both the savory and sweet crepes were perfection, so I highly recommend you try them both. We were visiting Sandpoint for a week of skiing and found Bernklau first for a cup of coffee. The eggnog latte was perfect for the Christmas season! A day later we returned for some sandwiches that were delicious and filling - and more coffees - On our final day in town we stopped in again for brunch. The atmosphere was amazing with a 3 sided fireplace- clean modern style - movable tables for larger parties and a very efficient and friendly staff. The crepes were fantastic - we had a savory and a sweet. There was also outdoor seating and what looked like a rooftop bar! The prices were certainly fair with a meal for under $15. This place is great!!! I had their tea, which you can get with "everything"... lemon, ginger, elderberry, mint... all of it in one giant cup. It's so good and fresh tasting. I want to buy it by the jug. I will suggest that, I think... I also tried their caprese sandwich (yum!) and their pistachio creme crepe. A friend of mine had their latte/espresso and was really happy with it (plus it was so pretty). I love how quaint the place is, and intimate. It was our first time in Sandpoint afew weeks ago, and we came here for brunch. What we had not expected was that it would be some of the best crepes we had ever had. We got a strawberry and pistachio crepe, aswell as a pesto, cheese, and egg crepe. both were warm, decently sized, and amazing! Plus the two crepes we also ordered an iced chai latte, despite getting a hot one instead of the iced as we had asked, it was still a lovely chai. The interior was a very modern style, a mix of elegance but also a sort of welcoming coziness to it. Great proportion sizes and great customer service- one of the waitresses gave me two free bottled waters because I asked if they had glasses and she said no.
