On this lunch stop we shared a pizza and Caesar salad. Both were close to perfection. The pizza was Neapolitan style: soft, thin, stretchy dough, lightly spotted. We got the Michelangelo: house-made red sauce, caramelized onions, goat cheese, parmesan, and basil pesto. All the ingredients were ample and in balance. I liked that the parmesan was added after the baking as large shavings, and the pesto was attractively piped on in large circles. The 12 inch size along with the salad was just right for lunch. The salad was perfectly tossed with the Caesar dressing which wasn't disagreeably heavy as some can be. It included plenty of seasoned croutons and parmesan shavings. It was on the menu as Chicken Caesar Salad but I ordered it without chicken, thinking that the plain was also available and for a smaller price. It turned out to the be the same price. My mistake, or theirs? Not sure but no matter. To drink I had a Rosé Prosecco which was nicely bubbly. Sometimes sparkling wines by the glass can be flat, but not here. The room was attractive, with neutral tones and brick, and decorated with artwork and framed photos. Service was fast but not rushed, so we were able to relax for a bit, have a great lunch, and have plenty of time left in the day to continue our exploration of Dublin City Centre. The "Good Food Ireland" designation means that Pacino's has been certified as using local, sustainable ingredients. I like that. Ordered the penne arrabiata and apple pie. The pasta was pretty tasty -- good sauce, perfectly al dente, and ample chicken. The apple pie was fine, but not life changing b/c the apple filling was too pasty and not fresh. Service is the thing that stops me from giving this place a 5 star. No one checks whether you've been seated / taken care of yet; I had to go up to a waitress after minutes, only for her to tell me to continue to wait when there were barely any customers. We came across this restaurant while walking around and decided to stop. We were told that the inside was not available but we could eat outside so we gave it a try. Although it was a bit chilly they had heaters on the umbrellas which worked quite well. The food is Italian and there were a lot of choices. We started with the pizza garlic bread which was good. I had the pumpkin ravioli which was very good and a nice portion-not too large and just right. Service was a bit spotty. The server was nice and all but things took awhile. We had a hard time getting the check after our meal although the hostess was trying to hurry people to leave. Finally we grabbed her to get the check and were able to leave. read more

Pacino's was absolutely wonderful! From the apertif to assistance with choosing the best wine to the fabulous gnocchi, this place was a delight. After shopping St. Stephen's Green, we wanted to find a nice meal and had enjoyed eating in pubs the whole week. But we wanted something different. Yelp's rating for this facility did not lead us wrong. When we stopped and asked they were only taking those with reservations, but they did what they could and made a small table for us by the bar. Additionally, they were more than compliant and happy to provide us the two free drinks via the Yelp coupon I received when checking in. Dropped in on spec looking for somewhere, anywhere, to eat, not having taken the precaution of booking in advance. Seated outside in the inevitable outdoor space we ordered pizzas. Mine was a surprisingly excellent pepperoni and Gorgonzola affair with chips on the side and my companion had a ham and mushroom one, also excellent. A couple of beers each, a cheesecake dessert for him and a pretty decent espresso martini for me, we waddled away well within the prescribed 1h45m maximum stay. Recommended. read more

On our trip to Dublin, this was my favorite lunch. What drew us in was the Bloody Marys that were posted on the brunch menu. Being a little burnt out on pints, this was a nice change. I ordered an avocado starter that had capers and olives over baby lettuce. Sounds simple but if was delicious, followed by an equally terrific salad with goat cheese, nuts and quinoa. The music playing was coming from a DJ in the corner. The women I was traveling with seemed to enjoy their meals just as much as me. A true surprise. Having passed by Pacino's many many times over the years, I had genuinely never considered what culinary delights may await me inside. I guess being on the tourist trail has worked for them in some ways and worked against them in other ways. Being on the Sutton / Grafton St / next door to good aul Carroll's Gift Store, it unfortunately may put some locals off. Well no more! My eyes have been opened, I have seen the light! The food I have had in here is without doubt the best Italian food in the city. Chef Luca Mazza is apparently the driving force behind the transformation of Pacino's in recent times - he started there in the latter half of last year, bringing a Michelin star and Italian sensibilities with him. The food here is simple, good good food. The emphasis is on the ingredients and how they are married together, and this ethos is something that is immediately obvious from your first bite. Full, rich and flavoursome food. I had the pasta with fresh homemade tomato sauce, chili, garlic, cherry tomatoes and flat leaf parsley. This sounds like such a simple dish that it would be almost a shame to get it in a restaurant. Not so. Getting a dish like this just demonstrates how stunning really good ingredients can be if put together in the right way. Other than the food, the staff is top notch. Professional, some Italian and some Irish (all very suave!), approachable and friendly, but with a polished overtone. The guys in here know what they're doing. Now they just need everyone else to know too! Top Tip: 2 for 1 cocktails if you check in using your Yelp app! read more

Had a steak tonight. Ordered it medium and got it well done. The waitress was nice and had it changed. Second steak was cooked properly but tough as hell. They must be buying the cheapest steak they can find in Dublin! My boyfriend had a Pest Pasta dish that was so bland. Tasted like tesco pasta. My plate was not heated so the steak and veggies went cold very fast. I think this restaurant is extremely over priced with Pizzas at €15 and Pasta at €14. Starters are €6.95 and a glass of wine 6.50 At these prices you could do better else where. read more

I have a feeling that this restaurant has been on Suffolk St for a long time, and that I was brought there as a kid. We got excellent service and unusually large desserts as my Dad's friend, who brought us there, was the owner's bank manager, and had just organised him a loan. Ah, the joys of cronyism. I was back there not that long ago, this time unfortunately not in the company of my influential bank manager friend. Still, the service was still pretty decent. And the food wasn't bad either. I had the lasagne, and I find that lasagne is usually lasagne, very hard to get wrong, not usually incredible either, and Pacinos' was no exception. It was 14 or 15 euro though, which is a tiny bit steep for a run of the mill lasagne. What I really wasn't mad about, though, was the lighting. It's unusually dim inside Pacinos, and I'm one of those people who have to be able to see what I'm eating. Still, by the end of the meal I'd got used to it, I suppose, but it would be something that would put me off going back again. read more

I happened to be at Pacino's for Saturday night salsa, which really brightened up what would otherwise have been a very ordinary dining experience. We ate downstairs in the cellar bar, which is really cute but, as Cathal rightly states, very dimly lit. I'm not one to complain about food, but my pasta con salmon was really very very ordinary. If you order a salmon pasta you expect it to have salmon in it, don't you? Mine had hints of salmon, and maybe a miniscule flake thereof, scattered in amongst wads of over-cooked, soggy fettucine. The 'free' garlic bread that comes with all pastas is so small you might mistake it for a piece of the non-existent salmon. So really the food is nothing to rave about. The wine, on the other hand, wasn't bad at all, and we had a lovely Italian chianti to complement our meals. Luckily there are many redeeming qualities about Pacino's on a Saturday that more than make up for the complete absence of decent food. Firstly, our meals were eaten to the soundtrack of a nice young guy bringing us the best of the Chilli Peppers and Kings of Leon on his acoustic guitar. Secondly, at about 11pm the dancefloor heats up with the bunch of salsa enthusiasts who head here to strut their stuff. Some of them are even nice enough to pick you out of the crowd and teach you a few moves (I recommend going along with this, you'll have a blast!) Thirdly, there is an amazingly handsome young man who works at the bar. Very lustworthy. So my advice? Go elsewhere for dinner, then prop up the bar at Pacino's for a while (and maybe try to start up a conversation with God's gift to womankind) and then head out on to that dancefloor and salsa the night away. Disappointing overall experience. When we walked in there were three tables occupied so we asked for a booth and were told they were for groups of 4. There were a few pairs already seated in the booths so that didn't apply to them. Those booths remained open the entire time we dined. The chicken salad was tasty and took less than ten minutes. However, the rest of the food took over 30 minutes to come. When the pizza arrived, it was soggy in the middle. No one came to check on us so we flagged them down 10 minutes later for water refill and to ask for assistance with the pizza. My husbsnd's carbonara was pretty good, laden with bacon, not much sauce. Overall, disappointing and I realize we're not in Italy but the service and food was not great for the price and type of dining experience offered. read more

This restaurant is one of those place that you pass by a million times and never think of going in. I heard good things about it in the past but there was something off-putting about the poster in the window that said: "we accept kids". Any place that has one of these is going for that family wholesome image... Anyways, I tried Pacinos late last night around 10.30pm so they accept night-owls as well. There were not that many people, only 3 or 4 tables, at that time which made it a nice quiet dining experience. However, one of the waitresses did not seem pleased to have more customers to serve. I ordered chicken wings with blue cheese for a starter and a pesto fettuccine pasta for my main. The wings could have been spicier and the dipping sauce creamier but overall I give my starter an average score. My main course lacked flavour and it was not worth 15 Euro. It's pretty difficult to mess up pesto so I was quite unimpressed by Pacino's culinary skills. My dinner companion had a steak and fries and he assured me that his meal was worth the money he spent. If you're looking for good Italian food and a family-friendly experience, I would recommend that you try other places than Pacinos. But if you like typical and bland food then this is your restaurant. read more

Really not terribly impressed with Pacino's..walked in last night with my bf, no reservation which was fine, they told us we could have a table for an hour and a half, which we had no intention of staying for. Placed at a really bad table, right beside the till and right in front of a storage cabinet - which resulted in staff having to squeeze past our table, and I had a wine glass dropped and broken at my back, and a small glass jar of some condiment or other dropped onto my shoulder, one of which was acknowledged in a laughing 'oh sorry' way and the other wasn't acknowledged at all. Our order was taken quickly and our food arrived in good time, but it wasn't anything to write home about - I had the carbonara which was a bit salty and dry, my bf ordered a ham and mushroom pizza which looked a bit undercooked and had about an inch of dry crust around the edges that made it more bread than pizza! The water we got was warm and from a jug that was sitting on the counter. The price point is way higher than the food justifies, we paid just under €40 for 2 mains and one soft drink. €20 each for sub par food and service is a bit extortionate IMO! I've really meant to return to Pacinos sooner than this, having attended a great Yelp event there last summer, but it took me until now. It was just one of those 'it's January oh god put the wine away', quiet, midweek dinners with a friend. I was starving so I went for excessive carb loading with bruschetta, followed by lasagne and chips. My friend went for the pizza. All were pretty good and the service was friendly and relaxed. I really must try the pizza next time. Definitely a good spot for a cheap and cheerful dinner and definitely better food than a lot of comparable places. read more

Well folks, I luckily had a 2 for 1 menupage voucher for here last night because only one of the main courses was worth the money! I've been a few times in the past and always had pasta, which is fine, nothing amazing, but it is reasonably tasty. Last night I had the Jalapeno Pizza which was good, plenty of toppings and a thin crispy base, no complaints there. Alas my other half went for the 10oz sirloin steak..... medium... what she got was not a 10oz steak (it was only about 1cm thick which is terrible) and it was well done, I tried to persuade her to send it back.... but we didn't. The price was over €25 for this. One of the worst steaks I've ever seen in a restaurant. The staff were generally very friendly, but one waitress did take away one plate before the other was finished, which is bad manners! Anyway guys, the rest of the restaurant is fine, the music was good, not too loud and there is a good buzz, (it was busy for a Tuesday night). Stick to the pasta/pizza and you'll be okay. Several years ago I used to eat here every couple of months. We decided to give it a go 2 weeks ago. We will never go back. Comfort - unless your on the raised seating area, your table and chairs seem to be slanted. The table we were at had such a slope on it I feared my glass was going to slide off. Drinks - Ordered 2 diet cokes. We got brown water. Asked the waitress to take them away as was undrinkable. She then brought us 2 more and explained she got them from the bar downstairs, so they should be ok. I didn't ask, but obviously they are giving tesco value cola (or some lower budget variety as I've had tesco value, and it didn't taste that bad!) and charging you for a cottle of coke? Anyways, the waitress was nice about it and didn't charge us for them. The pizza - Upon leaving we asked ourselves why we just ate that garbage. During the meal, we decided that it was so unpleasant, that we just wanted to pay and get out. The only flavour the pizza had was "stale greasy". Disgusting. The cost - Pizza here will cost same as everywhere else, so do yourself a favour and go elsewhere for it. Your not saving any money by eating it here. So since the lovely welcome we got for the cookey classes with Chef Lucca, I have been dying to get a proper taste of the Pacinos good. So when I was organising a nice meet up with the ladies from work, I could think of nowhere else I wanted to go! I must say, the food surpassed my expectations (which were already pretty high after hearing how passionate Chef Lucca is about Italian cooking). We got the early bird (2 courses for 18 I think). I got the Bruschetta and Lasagne. They were by far the best Bruschetta and Lasagne that I have had. The portions were huge, which resulted in no space left for desert (which was a shame). The food aside for a moment, the atmosphere in the place was lovely, really relaxed. The staff were extremely attentave. To be honest, I don't have a bad word to say about my experience. I would highly recommend Pacinos to anyone in the area! :D read more

We went here after one of our friend's made reservations for an evening. We were excited to have a good meal, because the place looks really nice and intimate. However, as we all got seated, he revealed to us that this place didn't have great reviews on Yelp... BIG GULP! We were all nervous after that and some of us decided to go with "safe bets" like pizza. I mean c'mon, how can you mess up pizza right? Fortunately, the food was great and portions were fairly good too. Service, however, was ok. He messed up on one of my friends order (brought a small pizza instead of large) and instead fix it, he just said sorry, want to order a garlic bread or something like that? Truly terrible. We were here friday night for a couple of drinks. Had no ideas where to go and this was on yelp so I said Id have a go. We ordered a pitcher but they had none. Had 2 beers each ( Carlsberg, then Heineken) and it was the worst beer Ive ever had in Dublin. The entertainment was a new band. If you have nothing good to say.... My friends told me they had been there before and found stuff floating in their beer. We went to the place across the road which was way better. I went salsa dancing on a Saturday night at Pacino's. I've only been to the Mint Bar as a comparison but this place is a horrible venue for a salsa night because of the complete lack of space. I tried my best to bust some moves with my dance partner but the long, narrow dance floor only had room for about two couples across. What ensued was a riGDdiculous amount of shoving, elbows in the face, butt-to-butt action (what I call a 'moon-landing'), and endless apologies. Salsa dancing is supposed to look cool, sexy even. Nothing sexier than being twirled around in place whilst simultaneously pressing up against four bodies like a human car wash, right? So. Obnoxious. Worst part of the night was when a large, amazonian woman stomped directly on my toes with her sharp heel. It felt like a stake being driven into my foot bones by a hippopotamus. 'Oops sorry,' she managed to say before twirling away. 'Oh fuuuuuuuck,' was my pained response as I dropped to the floor grabbing at my mangled appendage before limping off the dance floor. After three square knocks to the back of my head I had to say that losing the use of my left foot was the last straw. It's been over a week and I still have a bruise the size of a coffee mug along with a rippling red scar where she scraped her heel away. I'm just saying that Pacino's is too damn small. read more

I love Pacinos! I was introduced by a friend who was raving about the deliciousness of both their pizza and pasta. They do a lunch menu where every dish is 10 euro, which is of course a big draw! Their pizzas are well sized and tasty- I've ordered the Calabrese with Buffalo Mozzarella, chili, garlic, and basil. It was so large that I had a midnight snack! I've also had one of their pasta dishes, although I can't remember which one. I do remember that it was tomato-y and scrumptious! Service is always smooth- the servers are amiable and helpful. They let you split the bill with no problem, which is always useful for a group. read more

I had high hopes for this little place, it's so central and looks so cute from the outside! The decor is lovely and a lunchtime is was a nice mix of bustly enough to have an atmosphere but not busy enough that you need to have made a booking. They run a special lunch menu that a main cours and a soft drink for €10- not bad value- I had the spaghetti and meatballs which was pretty good, the best bit was definitely the tomato sauce which has actual tomatoes in it (not always the case!), meatballs a bit average. The real disappointment here for me was the service; it was slow and disinterested which spoilt an otherwise nice 'it's Friday lets not have a sandwich at the desk' lunch. read more

Had lunch here a few weeks ago. Service was very nice, also received food quite fast. Had the Feta Cheese Wrap (€5.95), with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, feta, mozzarella, pesto. Could have made 2 meals out of this, it was like 2 large quesadilla triangles. (not sure how this is a "wrap" but it was yummy nonetheless.) Another perk: they offer a student discount!
