Let me preface this by saying I'm an old guy who loves dancing but doesn't go to clubs. I was on a tour of Ireland and asked about dance venues and my Collette trip advisor name dropped Copper Face Jack's. I got there soon after it opened and I loved it. Loved the venue, loved the energy (although much of it was probably fueled by alcohol, I don't know- I'm part of the rare, lonesome breed who doesn't need alcohol to flail around like a maniac). Point is, the music selection was stuff you could dance to, so no complaints there. The DJ refused my request but I have weird taste so fair play. The bar staff kept me hydrated- they were on top of their game. I stuck around for two hours until there was literally no room left to dance due to the growing crowd. They wouldn't call a taxi for me which I guess is fine because so many cabs are already there, but there were other complications that weren't the club's fault so it's just me having a moan. All told? I'd definitely go again. If I ever come back to Dublin, anyway. Or Ireland in general. read more

This may be the worst place I've ever been, but I highly recommend going. I somehow ended up at this shit-show of an establishment two days in a row while visiting Dublin (for two days...). This was a couple of years ago and we still tell stories of this place to this day. The place is straight raunchy. It's packed and people spill their drinks so much that they've hired a guy to consistently mop the floor, and the dude cuts through the dance floor with his mop like a hot knife through butter. Though I doubt this is helping the situation, since I saw someone collapse on the dance floor at least once every 30 minutes. I actually enjoyed the music. They had a live band play until midnight(?) and then had a DJ after that that played everything from Galway Girl to rap to Galway Girl to country to Galway Girl.... The crowd is mostly made up of young (university age) people walking around plastered with the deadest eyes you will ever come across in a living organism. Some of the best people watching, though; it's like the Walking Dead meets that Project X movie, but everyone is Irish. So, in sum, if you haven't been and are looking for a night to (partially) remember - go this place. read more

I'm just gonna have to admit it; I had a great time at Coppers. After dinner & drinks that lasted until midnight, someone suggested dancing and knowing we had to catch a flight in a few hours, it seemed like a great way to spend our time before a long ride. Coppers has All the hallmarks of a fun club: -The place was packed -The drinks were strong (Shhhh, I was dumping my drinks; I can't keep up with the Irish) -The music was rousing (EVERYONE dancing) -All age groups (mostly young-uns scantily clad) Mission accomplished. Copper Face Jacks (or if you want to be jaded and ironic in front of your friends, "Crack-back-and-sack-wax") is not so much a nightclub as it is a type of bizarre sociological experiment. For years it has been known as the haunt of nurses, teachers and Gardaí up from the country (and prison officers purporting to be Gardaí, as it is very hard to get laid as a prison officer, or so one told me). But in the last couple of years, it has become very popular with the lovely young ladies of south Dublin, so now the nightclub boasts the eclectic mix of clean-cut GAA players and posh girls from Knocklyon, and everything else in between. The only thing everyone seems to have in common is that they are out on the pull (or "up for the shift", depending on what category of Coppers customer they fall under). Coppers is a good gas, they play music that is uncommon in other Dublin clubs, but the staple playlist of nightclubs down the country, like the trinity of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a prayer", Gn'R "Sweet Child of Mine", followed by Aslan's "Crazy World". Expect these three and more of the same. There's usually a good crowd there mid-week, but it gets packed on weekends: if you turn up after 12 on a Friday or Saturday night, you're liable to be queuing for the guts of an hour, so get in there early. Expensive, big, crowded, filled with blokes feeling up girls, but all that aside, there's something about the place that appeals to the culchie within me. There's nothing like walking into a club and immediately hearing a Wolfe Tone's tribute band. It does add to the experience if you're hammered all the same. read more

'Coppers' is one of the most renowned clubs in Dublin, not necessarily for all of the right reasons. As already noted, it has a reputation for attracting the sons and daughters of rural Ireland who find themselves adrift in the 'big schmoke'. Traditionally, according to Copper's lore, these students, nurses, gardai and teachers from the outer reaches of Cavan, Mayo, Waterford etc. flock to Harcourt Street to meet with their own and avoid what they see as the 'snobs and scobes' of Dublin. However, now that it is one of Dublin's only late bars, open until 3.30am every night, it is no longer remains the sole preserve of non-Dubs. South-siders have invaded. Even minor 'celebs' and members of the Irish rugby team have been known to duck in there at the end of the night for a swift one. The words 'cattle mart' and 'guaranteed score' are often bandied around in relation to Coppers. Yes, it can be sleazy and crammed, but you know what you are getting into with Coppers. It does what it says on the tin and whatever its reputation, it keeps the punters coming back for more. It's always jam-packed at the weekend and that's quite impressive in these troubled times, especially considering Coppers expands across two floors and boasts a fairly substantial smoking area. There are many who scoff at Coppers but I reckon most of them are happy to take a late drink there come 3am on a Friday night when matters of taste are sacrificed to deeper urges! read more

Local tale suggests that this is a place where you must show up already drunk and not one to break the rules as we visited Dublin we got smashed at Dicey's next door and ordered an "Uber" to take us there where the driver promptly told us that our destination was next door. 1) We were tourists and didn't know this and 2) clearly mission accomplished on arriving plastered. When we walked in there was wall-to-wall people grinding and dancing, lovely Irish people buying you drinks at a rate so rapid that you begin to question whether it is hospitality or hazing, and people that were absolutely getting it on in the bathroom and dance floor. I think the music was great but truly don't recall. Controversial. Writing a 5 star review of Coppers is likely to get me shunned from the Yelp community, bound for ever to be writing comments on bathroom walls and preaching the good word at train stations, GAA matches, and at the top of Grafton St with my megaphone. Anyway here goes. On paper, Coppers is the worst type of crap club. It gets packed to the point that falling over is actually pretty difficult and they just keep packing people in. The booze is overpriced gut rot. The bar has 2 price increases during the night and pints taste dreadful. The music verges on embarrassing, with cotton eye joe and garth brooks appearing in one particularly memorable ten minute period the other night. The crowd are all mouldy drunk and sweaty, pushing around the place spilling drinks and themselves and everyone around them. I saw a bloke in there the other night who could be best described as feral. But.... somehow it works. All the forces of crapness come together in beautiful, savage harmony. Copper's is like Dublin's pressure relief valve, full of people venting through the medium of the session. The trail was blazed by up from the wesht young fellas in county colours but now everyones is at it, carelessly indulging in madness like extras from the hotel bar scene in fear and loathing. My advice is get in, hammer some shots, go out to the smoking area, talk bollox to everyone around you, get in another round of shots, let it all out to some Saw Doctors tune, more shots, more cigarettes, more chat, more madness, then boom. Pass out, wake up the next afternoon, spend your day shrouded in fear and try incessantly to scrub the stamp from your hand. No amount of scrubbing will work, you're going to have to live with the shame that you enjoyed it and you're just as savage as the rest of em. read more

Got dragged here by some friends as we were bar hopping. YUCK!!!!!! I had gotten left behind (I was helping another friend get home safe and sound) and had to ask directions from a traffic garda. When a garda asks you if you are sure you want to go there, it is generally a good idea to take a step back, answer no, then head home. In hind sight, this is what I should have done. I have never had to fight my way through so many badly gyrating (read: dancing ?) drunken idiots before in my entire life. It was really enough to lose my faith in not only the opposite sex but also my own for putting up with such skeazy behavior from one another. You go in at midnight and its empty!And you are thinking what the frick?? It's only then that the packs of scavengers cross the wild plains of Dublin to venture from their predrinking sessions in search of talking a load of shite, dancing to Galway girl while flailing legs in all directions in a big line/circle. This place is the defacto emergency option if you find your night is going slowly and you're looking for a place that has a high percentage chance of having something going on. Dave S. is correct in that this place is pretty populate with the nurses that work nearby, my old flatmate was a nurse and her and her friends used to come here on a weekly basis. The main area is in the basement and this means it can get a little dark but that's probably not a bad thing. The coat check is a must since you're almost guaranteed to get too hot for a jacket on a crowded night and you'll probably lose if it you leave it down. Copper's does a good job of having a large serving area so this can help to keep down the waiting time for a drink. I think they have a rule against playing current hit music but that doesn't take away from the fun of the place. I'd give this place a higher rating if it wasn't for the drunken crowd that you'll probably have to deal with when you go here on a crowded night. read more

We've been warned. Told no by two friends who live in Dublin. Well, at least we didn't come here on our first night. Sean insisted that we need to experience this, on our second night. The music was a bit slow in the beginning, but after a few drinks it didn't matter anymore. Haha ... it picked up, and so did the crowd. People pushing and shoving their way through and I was totally hating on some tall ass dude. He was ugly. Their smoking section was chill, chatted up with a few cool lads indeed. Most spoken line to me all night: "hey you, come here" Most cheesy: "you hit me like a ton of bricks, you're the one" in his cute Irish accent Then he proceeded to ask my friend to put in a good word for him LOL. OK the five stars come with a caveat - I'm too old now at35 and stopped going in 2010. But between 2000 and 2010? I estimate near 100,000 Euro behind the bar, it was a loan Cathal lol. Three nights a week for ten years. The gold card came soon and was a chick magnet in next doors Flannerys! I always seemed to somehow get separated from them once we got in for free with a queue skip too. I met three of the long term relationships I had in here, two were neighbours in Mayo which was awkward when invited down for Xmas! All emotionally unstable girls, but that's the female sex for you lol. Pre smoking ban, a girl put out a cigarette out on my eyebrow(you are that close to people it's unbelievable) I still have the scar! I claim a piercing went wrong. I'll admit I'm a big dirty dog and say sometimes a girl brought me home for a roll in the country hay.. (Warning - Coppers is 90percent culchies, you know the type - eyebrows on the side of the face and have a seizure when Galway girl is played. Other great nights include when I met Kathryn Thomas from the tele and swung her around until I was told to put her down by the bouncers! The VIP room (ok I was back my mistake more recent than 2010 once!) is cool. I was in with the Dub team and Sam and it was chaos! The GAA lads like coppers.. I also had the pleasure of meeting Marc O Neill in here and he admits he is a €&€€, but good guy! I can't even remember 1 percent of what happened (Warning - you must get plastered in here, it's a rule), but I would not change anything. If you're lucky, there's penthouse apartments upstairs and a young lady booked me in! It's great for hen parties. I'll always remember snogging the brides mum for a dare, 60 and lovely. You will find yourself at Copper Face Jacks if you answered "yes" to the above questions. A favorite of some of my friends for the last act of desperation for the night, I experienced this place enough to know I don't want to go back. Left by my friend for all of 2 minutes while he stepped in the jacks I was harassed by no less than 5 extremely drunk men. I made him vow to me then he would not leave me to go to the toilet again. The other reason is that senior Gardaí and members of the defence forces get in free. Yes, you heard right, free. Officers are given a special Gold Card that lets them wave away the cover charge. Bastards. But there has been a change in Coppers over the past year or two. A very strange change indeed. It's become popular with a certain brand of southside Lady who only a few years ago wouldn't be seen dead anywhere other than XXI's or Lilly's. Yes, the fake tan is rubbing off on the farmers tan to create a muddy, bloody blend of sleaze and public order offences. What's interesting is that it hasn't change the culture of the place. Oh no, if you're looking for a sloppy, crazy night out with the mates, then this is your venue!l Copper Face Jack's is the ultimate night out with friend, stag, hen, or divorce party. The cheap drinks are always flowing and strong. Don't start out your night here, but rather, end it. It stays open later than most bars on the whole block. They spin the best music too! Top hits primarily. Always crowded! I can appreciate the mix of people that show up here too. All youthful -- it has a few students, a few internationals, a few locals, and a few tourists. I ventured here many of nights, and never left unhappy. Sometimes I wouldn't leave there the most sober, but damn, this is the party place is where the craic is! read more

Oh my lord. This place.... Monday night--bumping with nurses, Gardas and seemingly hundred of others that needed to binge drink til nearly 3 in the morning. Drinks and smokes were flowing. Glasses were consistently shattering. The clothes were minimal, particularly on the girl who's bum fell out of her dress at last call. Sweating is inevitable as you dance away the evening, and in my case, all of the next day. The smoker's patio was heaving with people. We placed ourselves in the tiny room on the way to the patio and danced the night away. it is certainly a site worth seeing if you are looking for a wild night out. Its attraction for lads is heavily increased by its reputation for being an easy venue for pulling! :) Although not the classiest nightclub in Dublin, mainly owing to its wooden floors, lack of seating and dark interior, it still attracts a large crowd at the weekends, resulting in a vibrant atmosphere, and is always a good choice to finish off a night! Copper's is more fun than you ever knew you wanted to have. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that a few of my favorite nights in Dublin have been at Copper's. Actually, I'm embarrassed to admit that I like Copper's at all. Do not come here sober under any circumstances (srsly) and be prepared to witness promiscuity. You've been warned. Copper's picks up a little later than most clubs because it's open late; it should not be your first stop of the night. The dance floor is good sized and always packed. You'll sacrifice your personal space, pay too much for drinks, and make questionable decisions, but you've got to go at least once. If nothing else so you can judge the hell out of the next person who says Copper's is their favorite club (...gulity). Maybe you'll fall in love with a nice hammered Irish lad. The first telling sign of its notoriety is that upon mention of Coppers, you'll either get a sick grimace or an enthusiastic shriek. There's basically no "in-between" with this place. Drinks are standard price, the smoking area is decent. My question- why are there two long sets of stairs?? People in the drunken states of most of Copper's patrons shouldn't be near that! Went to Coppers last night as part of a college outing, arrived at about half 12 after being in karma stone around the corner and it felt to me that the bouncers where letting all the girls walk in with just glancing at whatever or who evers ID they used and stopped most of the guys going in to have a chat about what star sign they where.. Eventually got into the nightclub after about a five minute chat with one of the bouncers, drinks were a bit expensive and music was very loud for the amount of people who were actually in the place.. Copper Face Jacks on Harcourt Street is a Niteclub which is very popular at the moment. Alot of people seem to like the place and it is always very busy with a queue to get in. I however, well, it has a certain reputation and it is well known as a place where lads are successful in the ahem "scoring" department. I was in there on Friday night and there were lads throwing themselves at me. My drink was spilled on me yet again. This is the second time in as many times where my drink was spilled on me in this place. Even though it's popular with some people, I think this place is a bit rough and ready. You have to be in the mood for the place and be prepared to rough and tumble it, as it were. On the other hand, the music is good I have to say and it can be good fun as long as you are prepared to just go with the flow and enjoy yourself. There is a lot of people bumping into you (in my case anyway). I have been in here before with a boyfriend and had a great time, but as a single girl, its a different story. Some people call this place a 'cattle market' and people come out of the place saying 'never again' but inevitably people go back week after week. I have mixed feelings about the place. read more

It's undergrond, overcrowded (Stardust II just waiting to happen), the music is hysterically, catastrophically uncool, everyone's up from Offally and they've all been drinking since 2 o'clock the day before yesterday - and it's a great laugh. The music here is horrible like some of it you can't even dance too, the bouncers are constantly telling you to keep moving even in a smoking area, the drinks are horribly overpriced! I really don't like this place. It always gets too full, it's hot and sweaty inside, it takes forever to get a drink, and the staff are never in a good mood. The security here are also extremely aggressive and I watched as they continually kept pushing patrons around for little or no reason, really rough like. As a former doorman I was amazed at how unprofessional they were with people and wondered why these people still were able to keep their jobs. The only reason people go here is because for some reason they get to stay open until almost 5am (Google and read up on this). There are plenty of good places to get a drink in Dublin, if I were you I would check them out. Extra late night drinking hours aside, there is nothing spectacular about this place, it's a bit of a kip. read more
