    Irish breakfast

Great place to stop by for a classic Irish breakfast and Guinness stew (exactly what I did) The stew has a generous amount of meat! Tasted delicious and really enjoyed it. The Irish breakfast: the white pudding was better than the black pudding. Bacon was juicy and healthy portions for everything!

Stop super friendly and helpful. Irish stew was incredibly tasty and perfect. Served with brown bread as it should be. We set up upstairs and it was great to see the old charm of the building. Amazing gem. So close to Trinity college. A great stop for lunch.

    Packed bar downstairs

This pub is more my style. It's close to what we refer to as a hole in the wall bar, or just a good old neighborhood bar back in the U.S. And that's no insult, it's a compliment! They have a full bar, just like every other pub I visited in Ireland, so that should come as no surprise. They have live traditional Irish music being played along with some American songs. I visited more than once, and on one visit, the singer/guitarist was belting out the Townes van Zandt classic "Snowin' on Raton." The downstairs bar area can get kinda packed, because that's where the music is happening. There's also an upstairs area that we ventured into, but it was a bit strange. There were 6 or 7 strange looking people dancing to club music. We quickly turned around and went downstairs. THE. BEST. PART. about this pub is the people watching. Halfway up the flight of stairs, there is a plate glass window overlooking the street in front of the pub. The street is closed off to vehicle traffic, so there are plenty of people drinking, carrying on, and hanging out with their friends. It was so much fun to watch, that we parked our bar stools in front of this window and just watched everyone having a good time outside. We saw a dude dressed as an eggplant for crying out loud - YES, an eggplant! The bottom line is, this place has something for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE! This was my favorite pub in all of Dublin. The bar can get packed as seen in the photos, but we still managed to get drinks quickly.

Europe doesn't use Yelp much so don't trust the low rating in this place, most reviews are years old and not accurate. It's located near the Molly Malone statue so if you're in that neck of the woods stop on in! We came in on Wednesday night, enjoyed some cold Guinness (poured perfectly) and ciders. They do have a 10 Euro minimum for credit cards but we're kind and flexible when we needed. The bartender was friendly and kind and kept the drinks flowing. Prices very reasonable especially considering proximity to Temple Bar where drinks can be 3-4 times what they should be. They were also extremely welcoming and the live music was FANTASTIC. Do yourself and visit this place you will not regret it. We had an absolutely amazing time here.

Very bizarre setup. There's a couple different entrances, one leading to the bar, one leading to a seating area. The bar is clogged up on the level, whereas food is served in an assembly line on the lower level. Felt like a little kid back at the school cafeteria. Best part was their menu. It listed all options and little symbols for any allergies potentially effected. Actual food itself was a bit dry, and the servers kept pushing me to order extra items I didn't want. You put all your food plates and drink and carry it to wherever you want to sit. Thought it was a bit much to carry it all ourselves and then have to push through the crowd to find seats. All part of the experience I suppose. There's literally not a single waiter so be prepared to make runs for additional rounds.

I had my first ever authentic Irish stew at O'Donoghue's, so in that way I am quite nostalgic about this public house. O'Donoghue's is a cute pub, with a great looking downstairs area (although I wouldn't know - every time I've been in they've always shooed me upstairs - not quite sure why? Am I not the clientele they want their other patrons seeing? Sometimes seems that way!) I've never ventured out here in the evenings, so maybe they let you hang out downstairs then, but upstairs is quite dank and lonely, and whenever I sit there I always feel as though I'm missing out on something a hell of a lot better down below. Hmmm, probably not, considering the other guys' reviews.

O'Donoghues of Suffolk St is the second most famous pub in Dublin to carry the O'Donoghues moniker. If you expect to come to this pub to see the birthplace and be regaled with traditional music you shall leave disappointed, as that is the other O'Donoghues, the one on Merrion Row. The one on Merrion Row is also the better of the two O'Donoghues generally, as the one Suffolk St is a little below par. Downstairs seems to be filled by either couples talking to one another, or men on their own looking at the television (which is on with its volume up too high, for a pub setting at any rate). No groups of people, no banter. I was upstairs before having a drink with some friends, and there seemed to be a few groups about, I ran into a guy I knew, it was good gas. I went back there on a date on another occasion. Big mistake. There was one other couple up there, who finished their drinks and left about an hour after we arrived. During most of this time, one of the employees was playing on one of the gambling machines, which flashes and makes noise. It was irritating. Then another of the staff members told us that they were closing upstairs (this is at about 10), and that we could go and sit downstairs. With all the tv zombies. We left. More miss than hit, you should give it a miss too. Go to O'Neills just a few doors down: ten times better atmosphere, and slightly cheaper pints to boot.

Formerly thing mote, this small but cosy pub down from super pub O'Neils is a nice little find. Pretty basic as city centre pubs go, no food but there was a guy playing a guitar there last night. I was sitting in a great little snug at the front of the pub and watched the Dublin evening go by. Great pints of Guinness and staff didn't run us out of the place at the end of the night, which is always nice and they were friendly too.

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

From the…read moreoutside, it plants itself confidently among Dublin's historic streets with a façade that promises hearty fare and good pints; inside, the space is warm and inviting with dark wood, exposed brick, beautiful murals, and comfortable seating that encourages lingering. My party of six walked in on a Wednesday night at around 7:30pm; at that time, the restaurant was about half-full, but filled up over the course of our meal. The menu has plenty of options ranging from healthy salads to traditional Irish dishes to your standard hearty pub fare. Drinks are also fairly priced here, and they have a good range of ales and lagers on tap (and of course, the classic Guinness). I opted for their Rustic Dublin Coddle (€20.50), which is a sizeable bowl of warming soup with two chargrilled, tender pork sausages, smoky bacon, soft potatoes, and onion, served with toasted sourdough bread. I appreciated the clean taste of the soup (made with an herbed chicken broth), which cut the rich fattiness of the sausage and bacon. I do wish the soup had been served with a more traditional Irish brown bread, but the sourdough was tasty nonetheless. Another great dish was the Waterloo Prime Irish Beef Burger (€19), which is a large patty of juicy, prime Irish beef served atop a toasted bun, with red onions, baby gem lettuce, pickled gherkins, and a tangy smoked Dublin cheddar. Some friends ordered the Superfood Salad (€15), which has a plethora of fresh vegetables and grains, but they noted it was quite bland, even with the French dressing. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side for a pub, but I find Waterlooo Bar unique in that the atmosphere feels classic but lively: you get that laid-back Dublin pub energy with a hint of sophistication that makes it great for both casual meals and nights out. The food is solid if not stellar, the vibe is fun, and prices are reasonable for the area; a satisfying pick for an Irish pub dinner.
