What is How at the Moon ? This is a club, three floors, an amazing staircase, plenty of space, a great choice of cocktails, cool music and really nice people ! Is it difficult to get in ? Let me think about this one. Everytime I go there, I just greet the security guy and get in the place. I do not know if it's difficult for guys to get in because whenever I go there, I go with male friends and they just follow me. So, I would say that you simply need to dress up a bit and be nice to the security guy at the entrance. It will all be fine ! I want more ! Howl at the Moon is just the place to go when you want to go for an after party. Actually I am living quite close to the place so, when I come back from city center, I sometimes decide to stop and spend some time there before going home. What do you usually do there ? When I get into the place I first of all stay on the ground floor, order a drink at the bar and go sit in one of the comfortable armchairs to have a chat with my friends. If you are a little hungry, you can ask for finger food. You will get French fries, chicken nuggets and eventually some other fried finger food. It's not too greasy, and does great when you have a little alcohol on the side. Beware that the kitchen closes at 23.00. Still I was there tonight, and at 23,15 they managed to bring me some food even though the kitchen was supposed to be closed. People are really nice, they will always make the efford to make you happy ! What do you do afterwards ? After a drink or two, I usually go downstairs. There is a huge room with a DJ on the left and a big great dancefloor on the right. A bar is in frond of the entrance. I just pick a high table close to the dancefloor so that I can check my drink while I dance. I don't want anybody to add any unknown/crazy/illicit substances into it. You see what I mean girls ! Do you have fun ? The music is very cool, modern and sometimes retro, the DJs are always very professionals ! The dancefloor would be quite empty until 23.30 when it starts to get really crowded. And at 3.30 in the morning, it would be so packed that you can barely see your feet ! It seems that you really know what you're talking about ! Oh yeah ! Between you and me it's 4.00 in the morning now and I just come back from Howl at the Moon. I have had a great time ! I went there with a great friend, met a bunch of new friends and look forward to going back in the next weekends to come ! That is why I removed one star from the rating. This is the only negative aspect of the place. Downstairs, at the dancefloor, the music is so loud you can't talk with your friends or you try to and read on their lips. If you're going there on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to turn up early as there is a queue for the place by about 11o'clock. I was kind of semi-casual dressed going to the door, and the lad who was with me was proper casually dressed, and we almost didn't get in, so dress sharp, men. The place is pretty snazzy inside, it reminds me of the hotel in 'The Shining' for some reason, all elegant staircases everywhere (actually, probably more staircases per cubic foot than in any other club I've ever been in). The dancefloor isn't huge, but there is a lot of general standy-around kind of space for you to break into the robot in if you feel the need. The highlight of Howl at the Moon is probably the smoking area, which is sort of like a big terrace, one of the best that I have seen. Howl at the Moon is over 23s, so a slightly older crowd, and maybe a little more sedate than other clubs. I wouldn't go every week or anything but it is really not a bad spot, it's worth a shot if you've never been, if not for anything else than the décor alone.

The cellar is probably one of the best dance venues I have ever seen & I have seen a lot of dance music venues. The DJ set was a London/Dublin collective. One of the singers dressed like a young Grace Jones. She was hot. She was amazing. Screaming punk and grime to a popping bass track. The children started screaming in excitement.

Hhhmmm - The Good Bits…read more.. Interesting name for this place as there are certainly "good bits" to this establishment but alas there are also bad bits! I have been here a few times for lunch and after work drinks on a Friday. The main reason for coming here for after work drinks is mainly due to the fact that I work beside the IFSC and as a result you generally have 2 types of pubs to choose from.... Pubs with unsavoury junkie alcoholic types or pubs with a**hole loafer wearing "Tarquin" types.... The Good Bits has neither and seems to have a nice crowd drinking and eating there. So quite literally - here are the good bits to the Good Bits.... They have quite a hefty menu where you can choose from nice reasonably priced tapas and other main courses also reasonably priced. I had a spaghetti meatball dish recently and it was really fresh and full of flavour. NOM noms..... They have drinks promos as standard now so you can get your €3.50 pint or your cheaper than the norm pint bottle of Bulmers. The decor is a tad "IKEA showroom" in parts but generally pretty comfy and nice to sit in. The bad bits...... Bad cocktails. OK if you are paying €5 for a cosmo you should not be expecting much but if all it tastes of is lime cordial then that is not good. I would rather pay €8 for something better. Serving staff who are terribly nice but do tend to disappear at the most inopportune moments. Usually when you are waiting to pay or when you want to order more drinks. Without sounding like an aulwan the last couple times we had an issue with loud music. This is fine if it is after 9pm and you are ready to have a mega night out but when you have gone here straight from work at 5pm and would like a nice chat with your work colleagues it is not good to have music blaring from a speaker above your head. We asked for the music to be turned down a couple of times and it was barely lowered once. So we moved..... All in all it's a grand oul boozer. It wasn't terribly busy, so going to the bar was quick. She was a nice lass too, serving. I also like style of the front bar: red walls, B&W tiled floor, candles and an open fire place. Full of character. Inside the venue most of the seats had been reserved, but we managed to find some spare seats down the back, to the side. And we enjoyed the show. Good sound system. The Ladies were grand. Very rough around the edges decor wise, as is usual with music venues bogs. But there was toilet seats and loo roll, which is a lot better than most venues I've experienced. Recommended.

A large smoking patio on the upper floor. The comedy club is a classic small space that has been carved out of a couple of rooms. Though the quality of the talent is a bit entry-level (for €12.50 you're not getting Dave Chapelle), by the 2nd half of the sets they are consistently decent. The predictable crowd-work that characterizes the host's performance indicates that few locals come here, nestled, as it is, on the River Liffey, just upstream of the heart of Temple Bar. Drinks are basic but serviceable, though they sometimes run out of basics on their menu. Staff are friendly, in spite of being endlessly put upon by tides of tourists.

It must be the biggest beer garden in Dublin, surely? On a not-so-sunny day, it does suffer a little I think, but the diverse line up of goings-ons seems to combat that. Also the Drink was well priced, 3 Beers for 10 euro, so overall I had a ball in the Velvet Room and it only cost £30 :)
