I'm pretty surprised to see the high level of bad reviews here, but it also looks like this establishment has gone under renovation, cause it doesn't look like a lot of the photos currently here. My husband and I actually had a great time here. We really enjoyed having a Bulmer's Cider and Guinness Beer. I also loved the entertainer here. He was a really talented artist singing some amazing songs. The setup of this bar was cool. I saw posters of concerts I would've only dreamed about going to, a replica of the Daft Punk helmets, and records of artists that I appreciate. I would say walk in and give this place a chance if you're in the area. If you hate it, there will be plenty of other amazing bars to check out extremely nearby. read more

Enjoyed the live music. Cocktails were well made by good bartenders though on the pricier side. Enjoyed martinis and old fashioned. Live music was great, predominately pop songs. This place does NOT have their stuff together, I'm sorry. A huge birthday group came in to celebrate (we are all not from here btw) heard music they were playing in the upstairs so thought it would be fun...went in (around 6pm) and were directed to go upstairs for dancing, as soon as we get up there the DJ turns off the music and they say they aren't opened until 7...so we head back downstairs and get a drink (which you're better off going someplace else for a better bargain on a Tuesday night) then 20 minutes later the staff asks us to move from our spot because they forgot the area was reserved. This seems like a place to go on the weekend but the weekdays forget about it. The staff should really work on their hospitality...very unfriendly faces and music went from upbeat to mellow (not horrible) but still trying to change the mood we were going for. If it's what you want check it out but there a definitely way better places...save your money, save your time. Cheers read more

I love 4 Dame Lane and I can't believe I've never reviewed it before. This is definitely my favourite place for a night out. Get there early and you'll enjoy nice cushioned booths downstairs and a relatively empty bar. Around 10pm, the scene starts to pick up and a live DJ starts spinning, one on each floor. Most of the staff is incredibly attentive and friendly. They also have a good selection of cocktails for just €5 and tons of beers available. Jagerbombs are a must have on a night out in 4DL, but go upstairs to order them so you actually get Jagermeister and not a cheap substitute. The upstairs is usually jam-packed by midnight and you can party the night away on the dance floor or on a comfy couch with tons of other people having a great time! read more

ok fine I'll admit it, I went to 4 Dame Lane and it wasn't as crap as I expected. I've been here a few times, not by choice, and always hated the soullessness. I ended up here on Saturday night mainly because of my policy of wanting to avoid entry charges for dancing.... the music was ok, the crowd was extremely odd and the queue for the toilets was miles long* but it was a bit of a laugh. I liked the choice of music, but the DJ seemed intent on only paying part of the songs, as if trying to avoid some sort of copyright infringement issue. Not a bad bar. Brought some American friends here last time I visited but should really have gone with the more tourist temple bar as the music was loud and could have been in any city in the world. Don't get me wrong, nice decor, upstairs for private function, live music or different style of music but if live band can sometimes be a charge. Long straight room so eye contact is easily attainable, can get busy and they should really remove some of the stools on these nights but no really big complaints overall. Gas fired lanterns outside a nice touch and arrive early to secure one of the booths/seating areas on your left as you walk in the door running down the length of the bar. read more

Dame Lane gives me mixed feelings. I love the location, right in the middle of Temple bar. There are couches upstairs so it's nice to chill out after dancing for a while, as many clubs do not have any space at all. The problem here is the music...they might have the worst dj's in the city; here you will only listen to the most cheap pop combos so it's not a very good night out overall. Sometimes they have live music sessions downstairs so then my opinion would be different. Maybe skip upstairs. read more

4 Dame Lane is quite at the fancier end of the scale of Dublin's clubs (there are flaming torches at the entrance), I think I've heard tell that it's over 23s but I first went there a few years ago and I have yet to turn 23 (it's very much on the horizon, though. Gettin' on). Downstairs is a real swanky bar area (4 Dame Lane is often used for wrap parties and such), with a bar along one side and load of booths along the other wall, the booths being handy if there are a few of you. Upstairs is savage, they play really good techno music... which makes it all the more irritating when you turn up there and upstairs is not open, which is possibly on weekdays but whenever it is it it's too damn often the case, as on the last two occasions I've been there, upstairs has been closed. I would have definitely given 4 Dame Lane a four star review if the upstairs had of been open the last time I was there, make sure that it is on your visit. read more

I went here on a girls night out but normally I would not go here for the main reason I like inexpensive and Free way to much to spend too much money on a drink. It is an expensive place with a decor that says classy but what was funny was that the crowd were youngsters from the age of 19 to 25 ( I felt a bit old :) ). The music selection was great and had me going to the dance floor quit a few times. The crowd was not so much my type, the feel of the place and the prices were definitely not me, so the reason I give it a 2 star is because of the good music they played the night I went there - you will probably not see me there again. read more

* Attention All Cider Drinkers * €5.50 for a pint bottle of Bulmers! It's been a loooong time since I've seen the likes of that so naturally I was a very happy camper. The cocktails are pretty good too and very reasonable. I've always liked 4 Dame Lane. It has the benefit of being in the middle of everything in town, yet totally tucked away. There's a great atmosphere on the weekends, a chilled out vibe on a weekday and it's dark enough for you to hideout if you're feeling a bit of incognito :) Also - they always have deadly choonz on. This makes all the difference to me in regards to where I like to go back to. So if I'm singing away to myself, it gets my vote. I was at 4 Dame Lane recently for the Yelp Blingo Wing event which was great fun. They sure do a good wing in there so for all you Tweeters out there, I'd make good use of the Twitter offer they run mid-week for free beer and wings. I enjoyed the short time i spent there. The bar is quite large with a few booths (filled on the evening with kissing couples!) and bar stools with lots of standing room in the middle for busy nights. There was a jazz band playing which was a nice touch and a nice change from the usual thumping loud music you find around Temple Bar. read more

Picture it: Walking down Dame Lane seeing the usual suspects after a dinner. Friend A asks if we should go big tonight with Friend B wondering if every place is sort of blurring into the same place now. Friend C, who maybe has some liquid courage, ponders if we should just hop in this random place. This, friends, is how I stumbled upon 4 Dame Lane. We found ourselves upstairs drinking loads and dancing to some of our favorite pop hits and agreed that this place was amazing. I started telling everyone it was my favorite new pub/dance place. And then I went again with another group of friends and then another, but each time I went there was something missing. Perhaps it was the first group of friends that made it special or maybe it was one of those nights when you didn't expect anything so were pleasantly surprised by how much fun you ended up having. Downstairs, you have the usual bar scene with booths where I've discussed gossip with coworkers and perhaps been ravaged by a few girls after imbibing too many spirited beverages. Upstairs, you have comfy couches and a dance floor, although I've only seen it used to its max capacity the first night I went there. I still like this place. I have been to this bar a number of times, and had a completely different experience on each occasion, so it's a hard one to rate. But it does keep things interesting! Last night Buffyfest Ireland hosted Dr Horribles singalong , with cheap cocktails and cheap entry (€5 for a few hours entertainment) while 2 weeks ago I was dancing my a$$ off at a gay night hosted upstairs called Sunday Social. It seems there are also regular film nights, which I'm going to have to try, followed by the late bar and plenty of room to dance upstairs - where there is a median temperature of 1000 degrees. There really is a wealth of new things to try, but I just can't give it more stars thanks to the surly bar staff, who blatantly resent the presence of customers, however, in a turn up for the books, they have some of the nicest bouncers in Dublin. The upstairs is cool to hang in. There is plenty of seating, and the place is well taken care of. The bartender, Fion, is the best...such a cool guy and makes a great drink. The crowd is cool - very eclectic and fun. Everyone had a great time. read more

It's a grand bar with decent-ish cocktails and a fairly decent dj at the weekends. It's generally incredibly crowded and there are not enough seats. I'm getting old, I don't want to have to fight my way to the bar. However, upstairs has a fantastic dance floor which is used by swing dancers on a Monday night. Great fun. read more

4 Dame Lane is a great place for a late night out. They have Live DJ on the decks, nice crowd and its open til after 3am which is always good! They have an upstairs section too which has different music to downstairs. Its open late pretty much every day of the week, apart from Sunday when it closes at 12.30. The music varies from hip-hop, to soul, rock and funky. They have large couches so if you're lucky enough to find yourself on one of them, it will be hard to leave! hehehe read more

We visited 26/10/13 and found this bar would be fab if they appointed a new Saturday Night DJ. I feel sorry for the staff who have to listen to the same songs over and over again. We sat upstairs for one hour alone while the DJ played two songs repeatedly. You'll love it if you wanna endure "Ace of Base She Leads a Lonely Life" & Dawn Penn's No No No. Needless to say we scarpered after the hour fed up in the hope he would play some other tune. Hung out here for New Years and had a great time! Temple Bar and all the surrounding bars were a disaster as one can imagine when we arrived in the area at around 10PM. We had been to 4 Dame Lane the night before as well so we thought we'd check it out. It's a wonderful, cozy bar that wasn't overcrowded or too loud. The DJ could've been better, but I wasn't expecting great dance music at a bar like this. All the bartenders are beyond friendly. The service is above what I was expecting based on other bars I had visited in Ireland. Maybe since it was New Years Eve there was less seating available, but we did have trouble with that. There's beautiful couches with big tables along the wall of the place, but not many seating areas for smaller groups of people. If the bar is full, you're really kind of out of luck. Overall, it's a fun place that I'd go back to to see what it's like on a weekend that isn't New Years Eve! read more

It is one of the well known local pubs which many people I know stop in on the weekends for at least a few drinks. I like the place, they always seem to be packed and the crowd is always in good form. You get a good mix of college and young professionals here, so it really is a nice atmosphere. read more

I remember 4 Dame Lane was a sort of hip and happening spot some years ago. I don't think it is anymore but that might be just me. I don't really like it. It has no atmosphere in my opinion. The last time I was in there was late one week night and it was really quiet and depressing. Futhermore there was a nail or something sticking up through the couch we were on! Not good. Attended the Blingo Wings event here. The smoking area is great and very chilled out. The pub is really nicely laid out and the decor is great. The wings we had were the best wings I've had in a long time and its great that you can get free wings tues, weds, thurs if you tweet it. Beer prices on the more expensive side. But the free cocktail was lovely and they have 2 for 1 on thursdays, so would be good value. Overall a really nice pub. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of this oh-so-very-imaginatively-named place to be honest. I've been there a few times for specific events (the latest being a preview of a friend's comedy show) for which it is grand, but it's not a place I'd really bother with for a night out otherwise. Marketing itself as some kind of upscale boutique-y kind of a place, it falls down for one major reason. It's never very full. Now, I'm not saying that I'm a fan of the 'if you move an inch the entire place glares at you' style, but a bit of atmosphere wouldn't go astray. Added to this is the issue of the booths. They are cool, and comfy, and if you can get one that's awesome. But if you can't then you're stuck standing awkwardly at the bar, or simply in the middle of the floor looking slightly sheepish and faking cool. That happened, incidentally, the last time I was there, when four of the tallest people to ever hang out outside of the NBA were forced to stand on a random spot in the middle of the floor...granted they would have stood out anyway due to their collective height - not that I'm jealous - but to make them so conspicuous just seems unnecessary, if any kind of thought went into the planning. The upstairs is grand as a venue if you're having a party or an event, but the place in general is mediocre, and considering the ample choices in the vicinity, I'd go somewhere else. read more

i dont like this plae its so pretentious and its not just the people in it im talking about. it's almost like its trying to be really sophisticated and cool and i really dont know what it is about the place that makes me think this. the place is decked out in leather couches and heavy wooden tables and extremely loud thumping music, just not my thing, if you have couchesthat are seperated by a table you need low music so that you can hear what the people across from you are saying but unless your a lip reader you have no hope in this place so you are left with a group of people staring into the distance cause conversation is too much of an effort. read more

I've been to 4 Dame Lane a good few times and have had mixed experiences of the place, ranging from "why are we still here?" to "why do we not come here more often?". I was there on a Friday night lately and found whatever noise the DJ was playing to be unpleasant only to return on a Saturday night a few weeks later and find that it was completely different, and much improved. So I was here with 11 of my crazed Girl friends after the Chippendales show the other night....Now I dont know if it was the fact that we had just witnessed half naked men for 2 whole hours OR the fact it was a massive girly night out in ages OR was it the fact that 4 Dame lane was just THAT good. Whichever it was who cares coz I had probably the best night out in Dublin in AGES! The music was a good mix and everyone was up dancing and havin a laugh. We found a table / took over a table easily and the crowd here were great craic. We didnt get kicked out when we proceded to take off some english guys shirt (we stole him from a stag do) and not gettin kicked out for that kinda carry on is always a bonus. Busy enough bar but never waiting ages to get served. Smoking area outside is great with seating if you need to rest the hooves from all the dancing. Whoop whoop read more

Thuis a pretty cool bar but doesn't get the publicity because of it's location- it's hidden away in the backstreets of Dublin. Aside from the poor location, the music here is generally good .- DJs play anything from dance, house, soul, funk and some of the golden oldies. What let's this place down is the staff! When I went here the queue for the bar was enormous and the staff on the bar were really inexperienced, so for a Saturday night it was a big faux pas. One advantage though is that the drinks are cheap here so if you overlook the service and just want to have a few no frills pre-club drinks, this is the place to go. read more

I used to go to 4 Dame Lane quite a lot, we would organise groups of people to head there for a night and generally had a good time. They must have changed management recently though because its actually become a real pain in the ass going there. They have made it a real pain to reserve a table, and now if you try to go in for a drink you are likely to have some bouncer tell you its "private party only". Maybe they are aiming for some reputation as exclusive, good luck with that I guess. Now we usually don't bother trying, there are plenty of other bars out there. read more

We had our xmas get together there in December and while the place is nice to sit and chat, it's not great for a crowd with all the booths and not enough standing tables, but all in all we had a good night because it wasn't too busy so we had enough space. Music and atmosphere was good. Food service and bar service were abysmal so wasn't impressed with that. Would go there again for a quiet drink and music perhaps but not bring a large crowd. read more
