Not only is the food fantastic (I specifically love the scallops!), the service team is spectacular. We dined there last night with our 13 month old son. Our server, Paul, was friendly and extremely tolerant. He knew to start the food for our son right away. Every employee that walked by our table on the patio (with a phenomenal view) acknowledged our son and tried to make him smile. The timing of the service was impeccable. We were nervous to take our little one to a fine dining restaurant, but the entire staff made it an enjoyable experience. On our way out, another diner stopped us to let us know that a server we couldn't see behind us had been playing peek a boo the entire time with our son and their table enjoyed watching it. Three year anniversary and a surprise dinner at Pacifica, my evening couldn't have been any better. After being away from San Diego for over a year, I'd forgotten how fantastic the culinary experience is in that city. Pacifica is one of those amazing restaurants you can go to for a special date night or event. The restaurant is modern artsy, spacious and has a balcony for seating in front of the ocean. How much better can it get!? They actually have tablecloths, great waiters who treat you like VIP, and the best part to me after having lived in North Carolina - everyone is properly dressed, and kids are at home with a sitter! That's right, I can get dressed up for my date night and not sit across from a crying baby or child. The restaurant is not too expensive considering how amazing the dishes we had were. I paid $38 for their scallop special and every penny was worth it. Sure it's a little pricey, but I was so full! The scallops were HUGE, and with the basmati rice and sherry based saw that came with the dish, it was truly impeccable. I have paid for comparable entrees in other places before and disappointed in the quality of the taste and flavor. This scallops plate was rich in flavor and so filling - I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. We also had the fried Brussels sprouts and long stem broccoli for sides, also fantastic. And of course, a few drinks and a chocolate dessert to end. I couldn't be happier to have dined at Pacifica. It's also a short walk to the ocean for a late night stroll on the beach, like in my case... when you need to sober up a bit and breathe in the fresh ocean air. read more

Being it's the most expensive item on the menu that day I was hoping for something a little impressive vs. a LOT disappointing, which it was. I came here for restaurant week and wanted to try a elegant restaurant. This place was not as elegant as I was hoping for in regards to the food. The Calamari is good, the batter is thin and soft. I also got the Black raspberry vodka slushie. It is way bigger than the picture displayed which is always a plus. I couldnt taste the alcohol, it comes with raspberrys on top as well. I ordered the ahi tuna poke and they give a very generous amount of ahi tuna poke! It was delicious, there's wasabi on the bottom but it wasn't spicy at all it was creamy. For the main course I ordered the Seared scallops because I got them at the steakhouse at azul in la jolla and it was juicy and huge over there. HERE it was too salty and on the bottom there was too much black rice. It was hard and not appealing ---$5 supplement charge and you get black rice, looked cheap. Filet mignon medium rare was juicy but lacking flavor Oysters were small and expensive, I do not recommend these. The creme brûlée was basic and needed better presentation, maybe put a raspberry on top. 5 star scenery and location but not 5 star food I only recommend there ahi tuna poke. They give a lot, and it's delicious! read more

I love this place! I went here once for a business dinner (I had the Tuna steak, which was out of this world!) and enjoyed it so much that I took my wife here for our first anniversary! We had a wasabi marinated ahi tuna tartare, sear scallops and the grilled swordfish! Because it was our anniversary, they even reserved a table with an ocean view for us so that we could watch the sunset. They offered us free dessert (again for our anniversary) and when we declined (since we had a year old cake topper at home) they offered to pay for our wine. This really was a great experience. It is a little pricey (although well worth it if you are in the mood to splurge) and that is the only reason I could not give it 5 stars. I'm really looking forward to going back! read more

Our family went there for a reunion and ordered Halibut as they ran out of Seabass. Also we had mussels and few of the seafood on the menu. Then my daughter and her boyfriend wanted a side of rice. The bill came to $550 for 5 adults and a 3 year old. When we looked at the price of rice it was $10.00 each . We thought that was steep. The seafood was so so but price for a side of white rice was unheard of. We haven't been back since July. read more

Tonight I spent $21 on The scallop dish which took forever to come to me and included only two scallops which were so salty all I could taste was salt. The bar staff was rude and called me sweetheart and were condescending and I did not feel welcome and I am so not impressed. read more

Used to come to Pacifica Del Mar all the time, hadn't been back in several years after moving cross country. Was excited to return, but unfortunately had a bad experience. The mixed green salad appetizer was okay, nothing special. It felt unwelcoming that they charge for bread now. ($3 for bread, c'mon) Finally, my entree was the sugar spiced salmon. I ordered it medium, and it arrived EXTRA RARE, practically uncooked (strike 1) When I sent the dish back, instead of cooking me a new filet, they reheated the old filet (strike 2). I took one bite of the reheated filet and it was mushy and uneatable (strike 3). Thankfully my server was understanding. Really disappointed that Pacifica would rather nickel and dime its customers than provide a quality dining experience. read more

Nice view, great service, good food My husband and I went for dinner with another couple after joining them at the races. As another reviewer mentioned, it took 20 minutes to drive from the street to the valet station. (sometimes I really hate valet when there is no choice! - 20 minutes in and 10 minutes out-- I could have parked down the road and walked!) We enjoyed a couple appetizers and a main course each. I had the BBQ sugar spice salmon- very moist and lots of flavor. It wasn't outstanding, but I did enjoy it. We shared two bottles of wine-- the wine list offered a reasonable amount of choices, but they are marked up extensively- beyond the normal 100%. We belong to a wine club and decided that next time we'd bring our own and pay the $10/15 corkage fee instead of paying $40 - 100 per bottle. The dinner ended with dessert- the yummy bon-bons that I wished I had ordered just for myself :-) Overall, our bill for four people with wine and dessert was about $340, so it's not cheap. Excellent service- this is one of those places where if you get up from the table for a few moments, you'll come back to find your napkin neatly folded across your chair. The wait staff is very attentive. The view of the ocean seems to be the biggest draw- great for a date. (oh yeah, I had my "Love Connection" date here many years ago!) I would come here once in awhile, but not make a regular spot. read more

One of my favorite Seafood restaurants in San Diego. 1) Nice ambiance inside and outside on the porch. If you can get a seat outside during sunset, score!! 2) Like all the other reviews, the Barbecued Sugar-Spiced Salmon with Chinese beans and garlic mashed potatoes is mmmmm good. The pan seared scallops and pan roasted seabass are tasty too. 3) The Japanese Clam Chowder sounds scary but actually pretty good. I recommend trying it if you like clam chowder in general and open to trying something different. 4) It's one of those $20 + seafood restaurants, but at least it's well worth your buck. read more

Yummmmm! 1/2 order of oysters, small but sweet.. which is what we like :-) I ordered the shrimp prawns that came with garlic noodles, there were about 4 prawns. the garlic was strong (which i like), but it was SUPER buttery too. the hubby got grilled swordfish and he really liked it! the view here is AMAZING! our server was real nice, refilled when we were low, gave us more bread when we were out, he was on his game. We'll definitely be back to try some other options (hear brunch is pretty good - and their steaks too), but obviously it's not a place we can go to ALL the time - it's pretty pricey. read more

There are so many good things about this place that you can imagine they have. Great for fancy date nights. Views of sunsets from here can hardly be topped. Great food, great drink selection, courteous servers. I'd give 4 stars. Now for the incident...... I normally don't have major issues with nice restaurants like this one because they generally do a great job and maintain consistency to keep everybody happy. I remember finding a hair in our food. I notified our server about it to see what would happen. I suppose we were anticipating some sort of reaction. That reaction never came. No replacement of that order of food, nothing complementary, no dismissed charges. It's almost as if they meant to leave the hair in there. That incident costs this review one star. Couple that with somewhat expensive prices, and I end up with hesitation from returning. I won't say I'll never return, but I can't confidently recommend this place either. San Diego has many restaurants like this. It would be a shame for a place like this to be overlooked all because they can't resolve their hairy situations. And that might be all it takes for them to earn back their missing star(s). read more

Went to Pacifica Del Mar for lunch today. It was the first day of the new mask mandate. Was extremely disappointed to see the manager not wearing a mask and he said he wasn't enforcing it among his staff. Less than half the waitstaff wore masks, one who did wore it below his nose. Not only is this restaurant not following the law but they are putting their customers at risk. Even though the food is good will not return to this unmasked restaurant. read more

The bread brought to the table was too doughy but the service was excellent as they offered to store our luggage while we dined. This is our second time coming to Pacifica and it was even better this time. We got seated quickly and got a table right at the front with a great view. Paul was our server - he was friendly, helpful, and incredibly attentive. The food was delicious. I had the Maine Lobster which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the halibut which was crispy but moist. We both had the Burnt Cream for dessert (add the bananas, it makes it!) which was rich, creamy, and perfectly sweet. Overall a great experience, made even better by our amazing server Paul, we will be back again soon! read more

Outstanding food and service. Our gracious hosts had arranged dinner in the private wine room for 11. We savored a selection of most appetizers, crab cakes, calamari, curried mussels and salads, all excellent. Entrees came in all colors and each better than the other, Bronzino, sugar-spiced salmon, Chilean Sea Bass, fillet mignon, seared rare Ahi, all finger licking good with an array of beautifully blanched side dishes all cooked to perfection. Deserts were all excellent, lemon tart, sorbet, crème brûlée. To crown it all, the service was outstanding and very attentive down to the last drop of water, wine and champagne. I highly recommend Pacifica! After an extremely disappointing experience at Chart House (ended up walking out after sitting for 30 minutes with no water or drinks) we came to Pacifica. If you're nearby San Diego area, make sure you make a dinner reservation to this spot for dinner right before the sunset. You will not regret it and whoever you brought will have that moment where they take out their camera to take a picture of something other than the food in front of them. If you have a chance to sit outside facing the ocean, you will get the most amazing view of the sun setting for the day. It could be very romantic or just an awe moment for everyone. Every time I go here I see this happen with others at other table as well - just stop and look out into the ocean and the setting sun. Okay, enough about the amazing view. Now to the food. Yes, this place is not your everyday dinner spot unless you are just made of money. However, it is a spot you should for sure have on your "nice-dinner-date" list. It should be on the TOP! The food is cooked very well and as the nature of the restaurant, everyone is so attentive and service is right at point. I usually get one of the fish and I have to tell you, this place marinates it better than any other seafood restaurant I know. But that does not mean they slack off on the meat - their filet is cooked to perfection. When I come here, my mind just comes in a state of peace with the view and just the atmosphere this place creates for you. Just such a beautiful restaurant. I do definitely recommend the Cod and the Filet for you and oysters are very fresh as well. I am one of those sensitive ones who cant eat any kind of oysters - usually only eat Kumamoto, Kushi and Shikoku but their oysters are just as great. Yum yum yum!! read more

I was very disappointed with our last visit to Pacifica. A shame because it's been our favorite restaurant in Del Mar for years now- we try to go every time we visit from the Bay Area. The food was seriously lacking. We ordered the octopus, the mussels, and our favorite, the signature salmon. The octopus itself was good, but it was served with canned beans and canned black olives. Seriously? That's like something I would've eaten in my college dorm room, much less a sophisticated seaside restaurant. I expected so much more. The flavors were bland and much less inspiring than the menu description. It would have been much better with Spanish green olives or kalamata and perhaps some house cooked butter beans. I will say that the mussels were fantastic. I loved the spicy broth they came in. But our favorite Salmon had to be the biggest let down. When we first had it several years ago it blew us away. This last time it was served with no wonton shell which is critical to the dish and the fish was completely unseasoned. Very bland cooked salmon- cooked well, but no salt. When we asked about the missing wonton we were told they couldn't get them in stock and there was nothing they could do about it. I get it, COVID times are weird, but if you're going to change a dish on the menu, especially a signature one, you should consider telling your patrons before they order it. We would've likely ordered something else and been slightly more content. The server didn't seem to know about this menu change either. So overall pretty bummed about the experience. My wife and I rarely get a night out and we were only in San Diego for one night alone without the kids. Not sure that we'll be returning to Pacifica anytime soon. We might give Jake's a try instead next time. read more

Came here for lunch during Restaurant Week but didn't feel like the deals were that great so I just got one solid main course. Since we had reservations, there was no wait either - but at around noon on a weekend it wasn't too crowded anyway. I ordered the Blackened Salmon Salad and ended up liking it a lot. The salmon was really yummy and it was cooked to the perfect texture with superb flavors. The salad vegetables were also very fresh, and I thought that the addition of the ginger and sushi rice really rounded out the meal. I will say that I wasn't a huge fan of the dressing, though. Overall, I'd recommend checking this place out if you like seafood! The food is solid, the service is fast and friendly, and the location is great (view of the ocean from the outdoor dining area). One thing I will point out is that our table wasn't offered bread at all...not sure if that's just because you needed to do the Restaurant Week menu to get it or what, but we only got our basket when we asked for it at the end after realizing we never got one. read more

Awesome view! I typically drop by the Breeze Cafe (the less pricey restaurant of Pacifica Del Mar) during my lunch hour. The Breeze Cafe is located just downstairs of the more formal Pacifica dining room, and is a great casual spot to lunch at and to soak in some Vitamin D out on the patio seating area. Just as the name of the cafe suggests, on a perfect sunny day, you are guaranteed to enjoy a soothing breeze while you dine. The sugar-spiced salmon wrap is a go-to dish. Perfectly spiced salmon wrapped in a green tortilla with sticky sushi rice and cabbage slaw is such a yummy combination. The housemade yam chips on the side are a must as well. It is airy, crispy, and lightly salted. Unfortunately, on my latest visit the rice used in the wrap was not sticky sushi rice, and that definitely diminishes the texture and taste of the dish. In one bite, all the ingredients in the wrap should work well together, but one should be cautious in changing an ingredient, as it plays one puzzle piece to an entire picture. read more
