We made reservation sometime ago and requested a seat next to the window to see the ocean. When we arrived, they sat us in the farthest seat away from the window. When I mentioned this as they were seating us, the hostess said you can still see the ocean. I said I can clearly see the ocean, but this isn't what I requested and there are only three people here in the entire restaurant. There are 20 tables open between us and the window. No change. Should've likely got up and left at that point. Anyhow, our waitress was very nice. The food was so so. Pricing was decent. Nothing to good nothing too terrible. Unfortunately, they are closing at the end of the year. What a shame. We took our granddaughters for their first fine dining experience. They both got the filet mignon on the kids menu and it was cooked perfectly and they loved the broccoli. My wife and I got the salmon of course and I am really going to really miss that dish. This place was fantastic! None of us had been. 3 of us are from SD (1 near Del Mar) and 2 from NorCal. Our NorCal friends asked to do dinner with a view of the ocean. I googled best restaurants in Del Mar w/a view & this was on more than one list. The view from the upstairs outdoor area was amazing and the food was delicious! 3 of us had the steak frites w/an Asian flair in the sauce & chimichuri. We all ate every bite. Portion size was perfect, which explains the lower price point. 2 of us had different fish dishes. The mushroom risotto that came with one was so good I would have ordered it as a meal. The cocktails were fun and creative, not your every day run of the mill and the wine list was well rounded. Even had Conundrum (white) which is rare to find at restaurants these days. The mango sorbet was the perfect amount of sweetness and so silky, not icy at all. The service was very attentive throughout and we never felt rushed. They were kind enough to let us have our pick of tables and even took group photos for us with the beautiful sunset and ocean view backdrop behind us. Parking is easy as this restaurant is in the plaza so that is an added bonus. We had a great time and will definitely be back again. read more

A little bit about the background: Was putting on a party for my wife's birthday for about 30+ people. Initially, I was going to have the event at the Italian restaurant (remained un named) that is also in the Del Mar plaza. The weather was turning out to become an issue and the Italian restaurant represented was trying to sell us on moving the party to a shoe box. We ultimately cancelled. I walk over to Pacifica and the Manager Eli was so cooperative and open to our business that the stress from my previous encounter left me within minutes. When we arrived they provided us with the most amazing server and staff that everything went without a hitch. I had attendees come up and comment how great the venue and staff was. It's actually nice to be somewhere where you feel the business is appreciated. I should also say the food was great and I'm looking forward to going back. It had been sometime since I visited Pacifica so if you're are like me make a return visit. You might be pleasantly surprised. read more

Drinks are decent as well Cons: - food is extremely bland and overpriced according to 4 out of the 5 ppl at our table, myself included. - I had the seafood cioppino, it tasted like they boiled whatever they could find in a plain pot of water with a single tomato into it for "flavor", not worth $40... the fish in it tasted old and a bit spoiled. Don't order the burger - the bun consisted of plain pieces of bread - not very sanitary. My friend's wine had a bug and stains on the cup. We visited Pacifica Del Mar recently for Sunday Brunch. Reservations were easy via Open Table however there is no distinguishing between inside or outside. Unfortunately their entire outdoor view dining area was closed off for some wedding party happening later. We drove literally an hour for this experience and were sat at a table inside, in a corner surrounded by walls. The restaurant and all the linens were stunning I will say. We did wind up electing to sit at one of their small exterior tables immediately adjacent to their main entrance. While we had some sort of view, that experience was rather undignified as hordes of passers by traipse along through the plaza breezeway, inches from our table. Despite these disappointments, the food was excellent! I ordered the Corned Beef Hash which was rather unorthodox but delicious. The menu did call out poached eggs and I received over-easy sadly. The waiter did comp my drinks which was nice but was hoping for poached. My wife's poached eggs perched atop her Benedict were perfectly cooked with creamy yolks and properly set whites. I look forward to visiting again soon for dinner. I might call ahead first to make sure I can get a decent table. read more

We've dined here for both Happy Hour and Brunch/Lunch. All night Happy Hour Sundays and Mondays in the Ocean Bar is a main attraction for us with the $1 raw oysters. Items on the Bar Menu are discounted $2-$6 during Happy Hour. At Brunch/Lunch, we've enjoyed: Sugar Spiced Salmon Hash (5/5 $18.00) -- Two perfectly poached eggs with delicious medium rare grilled salmon over yukon gold potatoes, asparagus braised fennel, smoked trout roe, and hollandaise. This dish comes with a dill hollandaise, but we've substituted their Old Bay hollandaise (excellent choice). Short Rib Hash (4/5 $18.00) -- Two perfectly poached eggs with braised short ribs over red and yellow bell peppers yukon gold potatoes, and brocoli. I had made a Tuesday, 7:30 dinner reservations for 2 on TOCK, requesting a window seat with a view along with letting them know we were celebrating an Anniversary. We did not use the parking garage, we found street parking. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated at a table with a view. It took a while for our sever to acknowledge us sitting there, finally he came over and introduced himself: Kaleb. We ordered cocktails while deciding on what to order. We order a 1/2 dozen Oysters on the half shell, the Mixed Greens Salad, Steamed Mussels and Pan Roasted Alaskan Halibut. The Oysters were excellent along with the Halibut. Salad was good, Mussels were big and fresh but the broth was very blah, not much taste. Our server Kaleb was OK, not the friendliest, very disinterested as I took not the other servers very energetic with customers celebration Birthday well wishes. So all in all an OK meal with OK service. BUT to note Management Customer service was excellent! Sending my highest compliments to the chef for the fantastic halibut and salmon dishes. While the bok choy was overcooked and soggy, the halibut, sticky rice, and curry sauce that they were served on top of were unbelievably delicious. The sourdough was fresh, perfectly crisp and crunchy crust with a soft and chewy center. I also loved the Mulligatawny soup, though I did find it a tad heavy on the salt and not super forward on the curry flavor. My one complaint was the excessively slow speed of service. It took us 1.5 hours to get our food, so not sure if they went out fishing before playing their dinner. It tasted fresh enough to be possible ;) read more

The mango was completely unripe - rock hard with no flavor at all. I don't normally send food back, but that was really not acceptable. Server was very apologetic and offered to bring me something else. Next I had the smoked salmon Benedict, which was a tad slimy in texture with "eh" hollandaise sauce. Fruit bowl was at least ripe though. From outside of town & came here to discover this gem of a place --in all honesty--by mistake & so glad we did! I use to regularly visit this establishment and thoroughly enjoyed it. As of recent, the last two visits have been highly offensive. The staff are arrogant, and do not have a mindset to cater to their customers. We even had staff bad mouth us as paying customers to other staff within ear shot and making it very apparent they were talking about us. When we sat down at the open seating, we weren't acknowledged so we went to the bar to order drinks and the waitress got mad at us for not ordering from her and verbally told us that and then the rest of the service from there was horrible because we ordered from the bar when she didn't do her job. She then ignored us and served other people before us who were seated after us. We will never dine here again. For how amazing the location is and how much potential they could have it's very disappointing to experience this. It's no surprise Monarch across the way has a 2 hour wait and you can walk in to Pacifica. Management should really evaluate and train their staff properly. read more

10/10 meal 10/10 service! Glasses were always full and never had to ask for anything, the waiting staff was always one step ahead and personally this is what sets a meal over the top for me. The food was absolutely divine and bursting with flavor, and also came out very quick. We had a half dozen of oysters (they come in every other day and had come in that morning) - so fresh and delicious. We also had the ahi poke nachos, the halibut with a green curry (best dish of the night), and the shrimp and lobster pasta. The view is worth the price of admission on its own but when you follow that up with amazing food and excellent service there is simply nothing better!! I had the diver scallops and my husband had the pan roasted halibut. Both were absolutely amazing! We ordered the Hamachi Crudo as an appetizer and, let me tell you, I could eat my weight in that stuff. SO DELICIOUS!! We finished our meal off with the key lime tart and banana browned custard. Birthday dinner celebrating my girlfriends and the service and food was eh. I imagined it to be better given the gorgeous atmosphere and location of the restaurant. The server didn't seem to want to be there or at least to serve our table of 8. The rice that came with the halibut was dry and super dense. It soaked up all the green curry sauce. We had the espresso mousse for dessert but the mousse was more of a thick ganache and not the light and fluffy texture. We were at the DM Plaza for yet another beautiful Friday late afternoon stroll to take in some live tunes on the upper deck and people watch, encountered a massive MemDay crowd. Twenty years ago, I dinned at this restaurant. Somethings get better with age and this restaurant's food and service definitely have! Beautiful views of the Pacific ocean, watching the sun set and having one of the best servers, Coop, made our family celebration even more memorable. Coop made excellent recommendations, brought positive vibes and joy to our evening. Everyone of our party of 6 was absolutely pleased with their food, drinks and experience. We started with warm olive sourdough bread with butter, which was served hot and hit all the perfect notes of comforts. The fried calamari was a salty and perhaps the least of our choices; nothing ordinary and I would suggest making another choice. The the exquisit yellowtail crudo was served in an aguachile salsa, pickleed red onions, avocado, tortilla disks and chilli oil. fresh and absolutely. The poached lemongrass shrimp was perfectly prepared but lacked the lemongrass flavor I was anticipating to exprience. The pan roasted alaskan halibut with a soy glaze served with sticky rice, green curry coconut sauce was heavenly; velvety, creamy, exotic and absolutely delicious. The catch of the day was opah which had a panko crust, served with mushroom risotto pea puree and pickled mushrooms was perhaps the favorite order at the table. A close second was the filet mignon. Perfectly prepared and seasoned, served on top of sunchoke puree with roasted fingerling potatoes, broccolini and pink peppercorn chimichurri, this dish was a home run! The soy yuzy glaze special was not as spectacular as the filet, but the sauce made this dish outstanding. For drinks we had several rounds of the French Kiss! Even the men at our table loved this pink drink. Vodka with raspberry martini was perfetly sweet, tart, and refreshing. We ended our evening with an espresso martini which hit all the right notes. Wow, what a great place in Del Mar! Made a last minute reservation on a Monday, and got in just fine. The view from the deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean is just incredible. But, if you don't want to be in the full sun, they have inside dining as well, still with nice views. My wife and I tried the halibut, the clam chowder, and the shrimp appetizer, all of which were just outstanding! I really enjoyed the halibut and the crudo, and their other non-seafood dishes were good too like the spinach salad and their Pacifica Burned Cream dessert (this one is a MUST TRY!).
