This company advertises that they provide safe, reliable electricity service when in fact THEY DO NOT! They have a substation in South Corvallis Oregon that is constantly going down and nothing is ever done about it. Today we had an outage due to this same substation and it went down at around 5 last night and we just now got power back on over 12 hours later with winter weather!!! I would rate them zero if possible. I am not surprised they are low. We are on partial power in our home because they did not coordinate with our electrician when he opened a ticket. They showed up once at 10:30 at night (as caught on our ring). Prior to that visit our partial power was in and out. 30 minutes after their visit it stayed off. Our contractors called on the 20th to advise they needed the power shut off so they could fix the issue. They showed up 2 days later without contacting the electrician to coordinate the shut off so then left without shutting it off. 12 days later without power in most of the house they finally came out and we are getting the issue fixed. I hope once fixed they turn it on faster than they shut it off. Apparently PGE would have just let the electrician do it once they got the permit (which they got on the 21st) . read more

Our circuit box was arcing. one technic treated it like it wasn't a big deal, the next came out right away (because even I as someone who knows nothing about electrical work, knows that that's dangerous) they shut off our power for us as requested, they told us once we repaired the circuit that we could call them day or night and they'd turn our power back on no problem. We just had another tech come now that we've repaired it and they are refusing to turn our power back on, citing a bunch of licenses and stuff that were never mentioned before and now we are stuck for another week without power because their technicians can't communicate with us or each other properly. everyone that's come out except the last guy has been pleasant but seriously. you are working with peoples electricity, most people these days need electricity to do things like, I don't know, COOK THEIR FOOD?? You need to communicate with each other and your clients instead of letting us sit in limbo waiting to find out whether or not we're going to have electricity today. if there were permits and licenses required for us, THE HOME OWNERS, to repair our circuit box then that should have been communicated before our power was shut off, it's that simple, and instead we are now screwed out of our electricity for another however-long-it-takes. read more

The staff on the phone are friendly however, the amount they charge is absurd. My bills have increased from $600 to $1550 in less than a year and half. Prices just keep increasing for their "valued " customers. I use $200 worth of power, yet the bill is $500? Make that make sense. They need to stop telling us ways to save on power usage because it doesn't lower the bill any, it just pisses us off more. Well here it is again....hottest day of the year (105 degrees) and for the 3rd year in a row power is out and won't be back most of the day. Seems like they should have figured it out after the second time that power usage is high on the hottest day of the year and may overload their systems? At least this year I got dry ice for my deep freezer before it was all gone (I learned my lesson last 2 years). Also has a plane crash last Christmas (Independence) they ripped all the chain link fences down to get to the wires and then left them sitting in a pile? When contacted Pacific Power said "yes we are liable to put it back" (Albany district manager). here it is...7 months later.. .fence still in a dangerous pile and nothing done despite assurances it would be fixed. read more

I live in Redmond OR. Our power is off pretty consistently. And, Pacific Power keeps on raising our rates (they are currently asking for another 10% raise. After 8% recently). Berkshire Hathaway folks are laughing all the way to the bank. The biggest problem I see with Berkshire Hathaway holding of Pacific Power is that it's less reliable than 3rd world countries power grid. We have outages regularly, once or twice a month, without explanation. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in a third world country. I can't say for sure, but I'm feel like the power was more consistent than it is here with Berkshire Hathaway power. Boo! read more

Rocky Mountain Power is so proactively on top of this Jan 2024 Portland winter event that after I called in what turned out to be a 5-min power outage this morning, one of their circulating crews didn't just come by and circle the block a few times, but also stopped, got out of the truck, and inspected my address' service panel. I'm impressed! I don't hate it even a little bit! They've generally been very on top of outages, except for one event back in I think 2022 that just totally overwhelmed them and left my block without power for about three days. I get that, though. Portland has a lot of trees and is right on that rain vs. snow climate line that often means "nope, neither, you're getting ice." Sometimes things happen. read more

I am a long term customer, and I have been living at the same address for 17 years. My usage by kwh rose dramatically this past winter when compared with the same months last winter; as much as 70%. I called and asked if they would investigate. They supposedly sent someone out to check the meter, but I have no idea whether this was done. They give you a ten day window, they don't call in advance of their coming, and they say that they'll knock on your door, but it seems they managed to visit when this retiree was out of the house. The only other effort they made was to have me speak with one of their energy "advisors" who do nothing but read a series of questions from a script. I informed them repeatedly that no changes had been to my household or usage, but their position was clear and that it was our problem to identify and fix if possible. They won't perform a physical inspection. TLDR: The extent of their customer service is to make sympathetic and concerned noises over the phone, but you will not receive any actual service. A month of my time was wasted learning that they will do nothing. read more

I made a payment arrangement which they cancelled/lost within a couple weeks and then turned off my power, even though I had sent in a notice that I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic. After paying $500 to get my power back on, I had no way to purchase food for me and my service dog, no money for transportation, & no toilet paper. Btw, I'm also a disabled veteran. I've graduated and started living alone for the last three years and practically every other month there auto pay system shuts off the power because the bank is still processing the money and having to pay $685 every other month to turn it back on is so fucked up they really need to fix the system they use. I got over charged for 10 yrs not just a little each month alot. For a 1200 foot trailer on a good month I paid 190 on the worst 890. I never caught it till I moved and got a bill that was less than 90. On that good month if that's what you want to call getting rapped the had me using 1500kw of power at my lowest to more than 2400kw on a average for 10yrs. They were triple charging me and now that I had to move they won't pay me back. I don't know who can use that much power for a single home when I put new appliances energy efficient. New ac new waterheater and had my windows done and only had my heat in the winter never higher than 68. What a joke don't think I'm done when I get this review over I'm calling every company that reviews your asses and then getting ahold of the governor just for fun and moving on to federal if you monkeys don't make this right. I would not even give them a one star rating. We have been attempting to work with the Albany office, Chris Clark and Nicole Willis for the last few months. Absolutely ridiculous. We jumped through every hope they told us to. We will now be without power until June 6th. We have been without power since April 25th due to construction at our place. In my opinion Chris Clark has done everything he could the extend this situation out, to even bad mouthing other municipalities. Thank goodness we had prior interactions with the agency Chris was talking bad about. I called the other agency and had everything taken care of within about 1 hour. Chris stated Pacific Power had requirements that were not mentioned in their current Electrical Requirement. When I told him what the manual said, Chris' response was "I'm not going to debate it with you". When we asked to get a firm estimate from Chris, he sent over a vague page with no break downs as to what we were being charged for. When I asked about it, Chris stated they don't break the charges out. Yet somehow on our bill it was broken out. And the estimate turned out to be about 60% high than what Chris had said it would be. When I asked about this, I was told "Well, that is what it is". In my opinion, you cannot believe one word Chris Clark says. I feel he has been intentionally misleading. If is no wonder why the Albany office has such a terrible reputation. I guess if there is a bright side to this it is this, we will not have to deal with Chris once this project is done. I have called Pacific Power Customer Service 3 times now on the same issue, total hours of 3.35 minutes to update service to myself on 3 properties. I received previous billing on two properties after a 1 hour and 55 minute call with hold times to get supervisor approval to send the previous billings. I did get 2 but not the third with the largest bill due. Do you think that I could get that after another 2 calls and requesting a supervisor? Nope. I had to tell the rep several times that I heard her the first time she explained (after explaining another three times for me to listen through) but she was not understanding, after getting supervisor Jennifer she hung up on me. I called back for another 30 minute call only to be told that she couldn't send me what I needed. Once more I said yes I know that's why I asked you to speak to a supervisor, after a 12 minute wait I hung up. What a ridiculous company. read more

I am very frustrated with Pacific Power, my local electrical utility... Last spring they hired Aclara as their sub-contractor to replace meter bases on homes in our area. When Aclara reconnected power to our home, it somehow wiped out the electronics in our 1-year old washing machine rendering it useless. Pacific Power passed the buck and says I have to deal with Aclara... The long-and-short of it is Aclara disputes that reconnecting power with a new digital meter base could ruin a washing machine, and they will not cover it. It was an instantaneous thing where the washing machine quit operating and would not show anything in the display. Did diagnostic testing - power was there inside the machine, the "computer" that controls the machine was kaput, and it is an expensive repair that would take weeks to get parts and repair. Having someone else do the work would cost more than buying a new machine... I called back my supplier of power (Pacific Power), and spoke with Michael (supposedly Employee # 20248). Pacific Power's rep Michael said essentially said too bad - it's not our problem - take it up with Aclara...WOW! Really??? My analogy to Michael was if someone hired my company to do a project, and I have a subcontractor that comes in to do part of the job - or even the whole job - it is me that has the business relationship or contract with the customer. If my sub does not perform their work properly it is me and my company's responsibility to take care of the problem. And this is the same situation with Pacific Power. Their rep Michael disputed this and said no - it is the responsibility of their subcontractor Aclara to take care of it, and if they won't, it's not Pacific Power's problem...don't waste his time. Not really sure what the point of reviewing the power company is...like we have a choice of power companies? I've been a PGE customer for 25 years, no complaints....power is on all the time. PGE is owned by Scottish Power. Just moved a couple of months ago and was surprised to discover that my power company is Pacific Power and Light (PPL), which is owned by Idaho Power. They were very nice on the phone getting my account set up, and they noted correctly that they are net metering the solar power that I'm generating. After I received my first bill, I was able to sign up for green power options, and we decided to go for the top shelf option which is 100% green power plus money for salmon habitat restoration. The guy on the phone was well informed and enthusiastic about the green power program. Lots of info on their web site. If you don't sign up for green power, about 70% of it would come from coal generation. read more

This is the worst utility I have ever dealt with. They are so bad that if you are considering buying a home I would recommend checking which power company service area it is in, and factor the nightmare of dealing with Pacific Power into your buying decision. I called up Pacific Power because an electrician told me the old thread connections that were fraying on the service line could become a safety hazard. The account is under my partner's name but I live at the service address as well. When I told this to the person on the phone he told me he couldn't help me and sounded quite smug about it, to boot. This is for a potential safety hazard! Old frayed fabric could mean exposed wire. To avoid a similar debacle in the future my partner called and added me to the account. Fast forward six months and I call to simply request the amperage the service line can handle, give my information, and AGAIN am told I cannot be helped, even though I was supposedly added to the account on a previous call. Again, the person on the line seemed rather satisfied when she told me she couldn't help me. So I just called back and gave my girlfriend's name. I sensed the doubt in her voice and basically dared her to say something on a recorded line about a man's voice with a woman's name in this day and age ahahah. On Monday afternoon, 8/13/2018, my Pacific Power & Light smart meter was installed by an independent contracting company, Aclara. The installation only took 4-5 minutes but when I went out to look at the meter, I couldn't open my gate that accesses the side yard. It was wedged shut (The two sides were off kilter so wouldn't open or close.). I called PP&L who told me to reset the breaker and everything would probably be ok. After I explained to her what a gate was (a way to go from the front yard to the back yard!), she referred me to an 866 number to file a claim. I did that immediately. The representative assured me she would expedite my request. On Thursday, 8/16/2018, I called them back. That representative said she could not find any record of my call. Finally, after being on hold 6 or 7 minutes, she found the information. She stated she would have someone call me. As of today, 8/21/2018, I have not heard from anyone. I'm hoping that posting on social media will spur them on to contact me. read more

Option doesn't let you go back so if you press the wrong button you just wasted five minutes and have to restart their payment system process all over again.
