Wilson Carpet One Floor & Home

Wilson Carpet One Floor & Home

We live in SW Colorado and were familiar with Carpet One stores from where we also own a home in…read moreIowa, so we knew their reputation was very good. We now own a town-home in Tigard and needed to replace the carpeting, so in January of this year we visited Wilson's Carpet One in McMinnville and were very happy with how they do business. Larry was very accommodating to us, ordered the carpeting before we left to go back to Colorado and we notified him that we would return in April to have it installed. Then came COVID-19 and we had to call and postpone installation until it was safe for us to return to Tigard. Finally we were able to return in August, notified Larry of the date, set up a time to install and things went like clock work. We were so thankful that Larry went along with the long delay to get the carpet installed and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The installers did a great job, were friendly, courteous and nice guys to have around for the day. We love love love the new carpeting and the superior installation work. We don't understand the poor comments here from some of the people, as we are so happy with how everything went; the quality of the carpeting the company offers; the friendly atmosphere in the shop; the accommodations under adverse conditions and the great installation. We will continue to use Wilson's Carpet One in McMinnville as often as we need to and will also recommend them to anyone we know that needs flooring. We've heard that there are companies that will pay people to write nasty reviews about other companies and maybe that's what some of the negative comments here are about. They find it very hard to believe about this company.

****PHOTOS DO NOT LIE!!!**** NO QUALITY & AMATEUR WOOD FLOOR…read moreREFINISHING is what happened on my project. Larry, owner, was argumentative, insisted he visited the property on completion and the workmanship and floors were 'beautifully finished'. I am an out of town owner, boy what a surprise I had when I was able to visit this property in person!! Prior, with carpet and vinyl, Wilson's did good. It was their floor refinishing at my property that, as you can see, left me feeling GROSSLY deceived, especially for being an out of town owner & trusting them !! My experience was that it became very hard to get them to understand this was their mistake & their responsibility. The communications broke down so I chose to go elsewhere and have another company repair and refinish this mess you are seeing!! I would NOT recommend to anyone having hardwood floors!

Our installer showed up around 9 a.m. and got right to work removing old carpeting from our guest…read moreroom floor. He had the new flooring and trim (molding) installed completely by 12:30 p.m. He even vacuumed the carpets from the front door, down the hall to the guest room. My new renter is thrilled to have new flooring to replace carpeting that causes allergies. Thanks, Modern Flooring Services! We'll call you when the blue room is empty. We want new flooring in there, too! HR Sombs

I rarely give such poor reviews, this experience was truly deserving of a 1/5. In short, this tile…read morecompany will lowball you to get the bid signed, only to nickel and dime you for what they deem as "changes" right in the middle of your installation. To give context, I agree that asking for something net new should be paid for. We changed our hearth cutout size by a few inches the week of, called their team and signed an understandable change order. The project started off well, we had a home visit to spec out all our requirements. We even had a CAD drawing of how we wanted the tile cut and installed. We got a bid, slightly lower than others, so we went with them. A few weeks later, the installation team arrived and began work. That was a little challenging because they didn't speak English. When we asked their support person about this later on, they made it seem like it was on purpose, to prevent us from making "changes." When in reality we were not asking for changes, we were trying to answer their questions about how the tile would be laid out or look. This company is obsessed with any opportunity to charge you extra, disregarding a smooth experience. The CAD drawing we provided them, and requirement we gave them at the start, instructed a specific 45° cut of the tile. Their work order had no note of what kind of cut they would use, one way or another, so we didn't think anything of it. Instead, WO only cited the square feet of tile to be installed. Right in the middle of the installation, we ran into a total of 4 issues that needed to be solved. All should have been planned for given our CAD drawings and their measurements/expertise. Clearly they are not good at the details, whether on purpose to get you to pay more along the way, or by accident. Neither are good reasons. We found ourselves stressfully trying to communicate to installers using Google translate, or intermittently getting calls from the office to straighten things out. The worst part is that they had to stop early on day 1 because a measurement for Schluter was wrong (something they should have noticed in their measurements). This seemed more like a leverage strategy, to stop work and get us to sign another change order to cut our tile the way we wanted from the very beginning. We pushed back on this second change order, citing that it was discussed at the beginning and not noted as an extra cost. The customer service was abysmal, disrespectful, and they told me that they wouldn't put the customer experience and relationship over their own mistake of missing a detail. You will always be the one at fault, they will always be right, and you will pay for it. Go elsewhere for your business.

Paulson's Floor Coverings - Though we were there for carpet, looking at other types of flooring and tiles was fun

We visited the store several times with lots of questions, and he answered every one of them patiently and pleasantly. We picked out our carpet and tile and arranged installation. Ron made a measuring error on the carpet order, but as soon as he caught it, he owned it and fixed it right away. The carpet installers were quick, efficient, and polite. The tile work turned out beautiful, genuinely great craftsmanship. What really stood out, though, was this: when we got the estimate for the carpet installed, we couldn't afford it. We told Ron we'd come back and pick something cheaper. He said, "No, don't bother, I'll talk to my supervisor and get you a discount so you can have the carpet you actually like." And he did. Overall, a great experience from start to finish, and we love the results.

We decided to pay a little bit more to have the two rooms done on different days, so that we would have space to move furniture one room at a time, avoiding having to haul anything up and down stairs. During the decision making process, we quickly got our terminology worked out, so we could be sure both parties knew which room was which for estimates and for scheduling. Paulson's preparation recommendations were very helpful - we knew ahead of time to clear any and all artwork on walls between the front door and the rooms being carpeted. We are very happy with the results. Just FYI, the parking lot does not have an entrance from SE Grand, and Salmon is one way, so circle the block to park.

There are so many flooring businesses it can be overwhelming. Area Floors seemed less pushy than the other places. They were also so straight forward. Their selection wasn't huge, but we settled on a material that was almost exactly what I had envisioned in our home. It also was totally in our expected price range. Originally I had planned to save a lot of money by installing the flooring myself. We were running out of time to move into our house and we realistically didn't have the time anymore. They set up a contractor to install the flooring for us from a short list of companies they trusted. The contractor showed up on time, and were ready to hit it. They completed the job in two and a half days, just like they estimated. Area Floors set up a payment plan for us that seemed scary at first but was totally easy. I can't think of one complaint.

They will not stand behind their product. The issue you have can not be exactly described in the warranty verbiage, but they'll find something else that they can try and put your issue under as a reason for exclusion. This is what happened to us, after spending thousands of dollars on flooring with them. If you need flooring - don't buy from these guys. Go somewhere else.
