I rarely give such poor reviews, this experience was truly deserving of a 1/5. In short, this tile company will lowball you to get the bid signed, only to nickel and dime you for what they deem as "changes" right in the middle of your installation. To give context, I agree that asking for something net new should be paid for. We changed our hearth cutout size by a few inches the week of, called their team and signed an understandable change order. The project started off well, we had a home visit to spec out all our requirements. We even had a CAD drawing of how we wanted the tile cut and installed. We got a bid, slightly lower than others, so we went with them. A few weeks later, the installation team arrived and began work. That was a little challenging because they didn't speak English. When we asked their support person about this later on, they made it seem like it was on purpose, to prevent us from making "changes." When in reality we were not asking for changes, we were trying to answer their questions about how the tile would be laid out or look. This company is obsessed with any opportunity to charge you extra, disregarding a smooth experience. The CAD drawing we provided them, and requirement we gave them at the start, instructed a specific 45° cut of the tile. Their work order had no note of what kind of cut they would use, one way or another, so we didn't think anything of it. Instead, WO only cited the square feet of tile to be installed. Right in the middle of the installation, we ran into a total of 4 issues that needed to be solved. All should have been planned for given our CAD drawings and their measurements/expertise. Clearly they are not good at the details, whether on purpose to get you to pay more along the way, or by accident. Neither are good reasons. We found ourselves stressfully trying to communicate to installers using Google translate, or intermittently getting calls from the office to straighten things out. The worst part is that they had to stop early on day 1 because a measurement for Schluter was wrong (something they should have noticed in their measurements). This seemed more like a leverage strategy, to stop work and get us to sign another change order to cut our tile the way we wanted from the very beginning. We pushed back on this second change order, citing that it was discussed at the beginning and not noted as an extra cost. The customer service was abysmal, disrespectful, and they told me that they wouldn't put the customer experience and relationship over their own mistake of missing a detail. You will always be the one at fault, they will always be right, and you will pay for it. Go elsewhere for your business. read more

This review reflects my personal experience with Modern Flooring in Portland. We had our floors installed about a year ago, and almost immediately we started having problems. Within the first week, the flooring began buckling. When the project manager came to look at it, he told us the issue was caused by not leaving enough of a gap for the floor to expand. Despite this, the company refused to take responsibility for the installation. Instead, they blamed the flooring itself, saying there was too much moisture. What made this situation more frustrating is that only one installer was sent to do the entire project, and he finished our whole house in just a day and a half. From the looks of it, it felt rushed and not done with proper care. We had purchased the flooring from Lumber Liquidators. Shortly after, the company went bankrupt, leaving us with no way to address the issue with them. Because of this, it felt like the installer placed all the blame on the product rather than acknowledging the possibility of installation mistakes. It also seemed like they were rushing to finish so they could get paid quickly. Now, only a year later, we're stuck needing new floors. Our installer showed up around 9 a.m. and got right to work removing old carpeting from our guest room floor. He had the new flooring and trim (molding) installed completely by 12:30 p.m. He even vacuumed the carpets from the front door, down the hall to the guest room. My experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. From the very beginning, talking with Samm and Sergay, their professionalism was questionable at best. The floor installation we paid for was riddled with mistakes--uneven boards, gaps, and dips when standing on them due to not treating the subfloor prior, which we did pay extra for. It looked like a DIY project gone wrong, rather than a job done by supposed "experts." But what really took this experience from disappointing to infuriating was their utter lack of accountability. After numerous attempts to contact them for a resolution, they've taken to screening my calls. I've left messages, sent emails, and even tried reaching out on social media, only to be met with radio silence. It feels like they've ghosted me after taking my money and leaving me with a shoddy floor. If you value your time, money, and sanity, steer clear of Modern Flooring. Their customer service is nonexistent, and their work is subpar (to put it nicely). I'm left with a mess and no recourse, which is the worst kind of situation for any homeowner. DO NOT USE THEM. They put in my floor around August 2024. The number one item is that they put the Quiet Walk underlayment upside down and refused to fix it. And, only when I gripped about it, they taped the seams of the underlayment as directed by the manufacturer. Second, 7 months later, you can see gaps in the Kitchen and Laundry rooms that are embarrassing to say the least. I spent $25k on my floor including the labor from LL Flooring and it looks like I will have to have all the work done again because, as predicted, the upside down underlayment is causing the waterproof flooring to fail. read more

This company is not reputable. They are not reliable. They use Google Voice numbers on purpose so that a customer or a potential subcontractor cannot gain access 2. The owner or the employees real phone numbers, they're very deceptive, they take advantage of people and I would not recommend this company to anybody read more

This company was a sub for L&L flooring. We scheduled an install date and they didn't show up twice. Totally incompetent. I had to ask for a refund of the installation. Nice try but I am not the competition. Gets a reliable crew. read more

This company did the kitchen and downstairs floor in my parents home, who are in their late 70s, just about a year ago. We began selling their home a few months ago, with what should look like new floors, but in the kitchen their install totally failed and looks TERRIBLE. Why? Their installer hammered-in 7 rows of flooring that meet the doorway, because he needed more room to put in the transition strip. Why does that matter? It caused every board across 6ft x 12ft of flooring to buckle. Now, all the edges are slowly breaking. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE!! They refuse to honor their work. They suggested maybe it was a bad batch of boards and offered a discount on new work, but the downstairs looks fine... It was not the boards. ALSO, they did NOT do the work themselves. THEY SUB-CONTRACTED it to an amateur, who obviously did not know what hammering-in would do... Good priced product, but DO NOT TRUST their installation quality or honor. read more

Working with Modern Flooring on our project was definitely one of our best experiences on our project. We very much appreciated the great communication with scheduling and professional follow ups throughout the project. Samm in the office was great and pleasant to deal with on the project communication every step of the way. Our installer Orlando & his wife (husband and wife team) showed up on time every day and did a great job on the laminate floor and base trim install. They respected our space and cleaned up better than most of the other trades we have had on the project. I would recommend Modern Flooring for your flooring install project and would definitely use them again! read more

The pervious post by Robert M. pretty much sums up our experience with Modern Flooring as well. This company was contracted out by LL Flooring when we purchased LVP for a renovation project. We were promised an install date, it got moved back two weeks, then delayed again after I took the day off work to be there. I guess they are like a middle-man company that hires other random businesses to do their installations. After getting the run-around, we finally had a company come out for our install. All went well the first day and a half, but then they rushed to get it done and the final product was sloppy (the days I was not able to be there during the install). We had many issues, like flooring over an item upstairs and covering a heating vent in our bedroom. Sergey came out to assess, and verified the many problems and use of wrong transition strips. We were told the work would be fixed. We were then ghosted by Samm who had her new receptionist tell me their contract with LL Flooring was void and they would not be doing any repairs. We spent a lot of money for an unfinished project. Horrible experience with a horrible company. read more

Please stay far away from this company as humanly possible. They were subcontracted via LL flooring for a job in December of 2022. They installed all 2100+ sq feet of my flooring incorrectly. They subcontract smaller companies under them and hire folks they've never actually met in person before nor know the quality of their work. During the entire process in 2022 we expressed our concerns throughout the project. Shortly after installation issues with the sub floor and bowing of the floor began. LL Flooring sent out a 3rd party inspector who confirmed that everything had been installed incorrectly and the floors wouldn't be covered under warranty which means they completely botch the first job and would need to rip out and reinstall everything they originally did. After going back and forth they finally came up with what sounded like a fair resolution to reinstall. After cancelling our revised schedule 3x they are now acknowledging that they put together a reinstall plan that isn't possible logistic wise. Dealing with Samm throughout this process. She's somewhat pleasant to deal with but has definitely lied to my face about quite a few things including putting together the reinstall plan / schedule without ever actually consulting with the team that does the actual installation. There are many companies out there that are ethical and can actually do a good quality job. This is not one of them. read more
