Spruce Box was the most timely, friendly, and the most reasonably priced. I really appreciated their great communication. The work took two days. Tim did a great job and was very friendly. He checked in with us throughout the process to ensure that we were going to be satisfied with the finished product and we are. I would definitely contract with them again.

The scope of my project was complete door replacement (I supplied pre-hung doors and hardware) and…read morereplacement of a rotting chimney enclosure for my home in Gresham. I have worked with many contractors over the years and my experience with Spruce Box was one of the worst I have worked with for small projects, due to a lack of good project management, quality control and professionalism in addressing quality of work issues. The painting of doors was terrible (trying to use cheaper paint than agreed upon and without tinting to match existing) and remain so, even after painting of some doors three times. They sparyed doors in my garage instead of a shop ( assuring me the results were equivalent) but the painting was a disaster because the painter worked for residential developers and not high-end interiors. Why did they hire this painter for my job and why did they not fire him after his many mistakes??? The hardware installation required re-installation in several instances due to not reading instructions and or lack of experience installing hardware. Trim Paint on the exterior siding and the chimney enclosure requires a second finish coat of paint. The patio door paint is discoloring and scratches off easily - probably due to prep or number of coats of paint. Bathroom door swings open by itself. On the plus side, the crew was generally friendly, kept the house clean and corrected their work when I pointed it out to them. however, many mistakes should have been caught by them. I believe overlapping scheduling of projects led to a rushed job and was even told as much by the crew on a couple of occasions. Response to the issues during the work was minimal and required my constant attention. Now (5 months after the work) and a walk through to identify the issues, I am told by Xavier (owner) that they had barely broken even on the job financially, and would they therefore would not follow-up on the correction of mistakes or paying me to make these repairs on my own. They no longer return my calls, and have essentially ghosted me. This might happen with a bad friendship but should never happen in a business context. I WOULD NOT HIRE SPRUCE BOX NOR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE FOR ANY PROJECT BECAUSE THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL, DO NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK AND THEIR HIGH PRICES ARE NOT COMMENSURATE WITH THE QUALITY OF THEIR WORK.

David was prompt, arrived when he said he would, was extremely polite, and made sure he understood what I was after. I'd highly recommend SunWest for your projects and if they can't do what you are after, they would know of reputable and quality other providers. Give SunWest a call!

Tim came out and accessed our project and the main issues that needed to be addressed right away. Our home inspector had discovered that the water damage noted in the basement was coming from poorly grouted tile in our bath and every time we showered water was running down our wall. We knew when bought the home we would need to attack the bath right away and Tim's professional, cost conscious suggestions made us feel we were in good hands. Communication was great, he was on the job and answered all of our questions. We decided to do more work than what we initially intended to do and he referred us to a great plumber who was just as professional as Sun West. Sun West demo'd walls, moved a doorway and window and totally re did all the tile and trim in the bath. We were very pleased and love our new bath!!!!! When we are ready for the next phase of our project we will be calling them again.

Phenomenal!!!! Recast Homes spearheaded by Krisanna is the kind of contractor that your dream you…read morewill find yourself working with. Her enthusiasm, taste, style, persona, eye for detail, organization skills, project management, and overall friendliness are beyond reproach, Myself and my wife had been on the fence about selling or renovating and were losing hope of finding a contractor until my wife found Krisanna and Recast Homes. From the moment we met her both my wife and I felt at ease, relaxed and the weigh of what seemed like the world was lifted. It was now an easy decision and we were staying in our home! One thing that jumped out at us and was a fantastic bonus is that she is not only a GC but also an interior / exterior designer. We spoke with Krisanna about remodeling our kitchen, making our laundry room more functional, updating the downstairs powder room, changing the flooring, redoing the stairs, building a loft and adding a wall to separate the dining room from the front room. What happened next blew us away! She took all the ideas that we had and then added to and enhanced each of them. Krisanna laid out a clear and concise timeline for the project and was able to tell us what was happening on each day and week for the duration of the renovation. Once we committed to the project the scale of the project became apparent to us but Krisanna was able to get ahead of any issue and would meet with us in person and by phone to discuss colors, materials, style, lighting. Once all the decision were made the demo started on time and on the day we had planned. Like every renovation project there are always unforeseen issues and we had water damage at the back door, powder room and under the kitchen island from slow leaks due to old bad CPVC piping. Krisanna immediately informed us of what was found, had a plan in place and repairs scheduled the same day. She would also arrive to the house and say things "like I have been thinking about this wall ..... we should leave a section open at the top for added light" and it made the wall 10x better. The samples she brought, the colors, paint, the furnishings, accessories, stove ideas, kitchen pendants and faucets were all exactly what we had wanted but could not put together on our own. Her help with the flooring was incredibly and spent many hours with us at CFM helping us decide on what worked best for the cabinetry color scheme. The finished product is jaw dropping and the quality of the finish is outstanding. We are delighted with how the house looks and how functional it now is. I have an office again, we have a Loft for a kids play room, a beautiful kitchen, front room, dinning room, family room and the laundry room is exceptional. If you have project and need a general contractor or designer then the only realistic option is Krisanna and Recast Home. She is simply the absolute best!!!

Did you know that getting a skylight installed in Portland is hard? Well, it is, but not for the…read morereasons you would expect. I called all over town to anyone listed on Google looking for someone to do a relatively simple install of 2 skylights. As it turns out, it's damn near impossible to find a reliable company that is willing to sell you the skylight and complete the installation. I must've burned through 8 companies before I finally checked the Velux website for certified installers in PDX. Sure enough, Green City Skylights and Solar were one of only TWO companies on the list. I called and got Shawn, who owns the company. He responded promptly to my call, showed up to my house on time, and got me an estimate in less than 6 hours. This may not seem like much, but he was the only one of 5 companies to do all of these things right. His estimate wasn't the cheapest, but he was by far the most knowledgeable and likable of the lot. We signed with Green City 2 weeks ago and I'm already the proud owner of two freshly installed skylights. They did the work in less than a day, the crew were all good guys and obvious pros, and they didn't leave the place a total mess. I even volunteered to vacuum the schmutz that they did leave behind. If you're out looking for skylights, I feel your pain. Just do yourself a favor and make sure Green City is in the mix. They'll take everybody else to school.

He was helpful in choosing the right size for the space, and going over the different options for features, etc. The price was totally fair, and based on other reviews here I felt confident that the work would be of good quality. It took a week or so for the materials to arrive, and they came to install a couple of days later. We had 3 skylights installed in our attic, and they turned out fantastic. They did the drywall finishing as well, which we are very happy with.

BUYER BEWARE! This company has the WORST customer service I have ever encountered. I purchased…read morecarpet for 2 bedrooms and rubber flooring for my exercise room in early July. Was given two different install dates for each floor type. First install was for the rubber floor which happened without issue. Stan was my installer and he was GREAT. If that was the only installation, my review would be five stars. Installation of the carpet was to happen on 7/28 between 8am - 9am. Received a call at 9am that the installers truck broke down and he'd be here at noon. Noon comes and go without anyone showing up OR an update. Called them around 1pm and they say they found an installer and he's on his way. A crew of two guys show up, do a walk of the rooms & inform us we need to remove everything out of the closet due to the built-in inside the closet. We were told by the estimator/owner when we got a quote we could leave everything on the top rod of the closet, hence why we didn't remove everything. My husband starts pulling everything out of the closet & asking the installer questions about the installation inside the closet. He was frustrated that the plan changed but he's moving clothes out. The installers walk out without a word and never return. We didn't know what was going on so we call the store & they didn't seem to know either. Find out later the installer was "offended" by my husband. For what? No one knows. At this point I am offended by the installers unprofessionalism and disrespect. My husband did not yell, curse, or do anything that should to walk off the job. Gilford's response is they were taking him to a "nice dinner" to talk to him and would work on getting an installer for the following day and they'd call us with an update. They didn't and we ended up having to call them, again. Fast forward to Tuesday. We called around 11am because no update. They tell us an installer will be out "between 12 and 1" after another job. That time comes and goes without an installer or update. Text them for an update: he's finishing up and he's coming today. At 4:00pm when no update or installer shows, I call the office to be met with more rudeness and unprofessionalism. Rob starts yelling, talking over me, told me he doesn't care AND hung up on me. Apparently he didn't like that I'm frustrated with their missed commitments, lack of communication and unprofessionalism. Told me I'm "flipping out". I don't know who wouldn't be frustrated with the situation. Rob doesn't know how to deal with customers or de-escalate situations and made it worse than it already was. Installers show up at 5pm and don't leave until after 10pm. Still have to put everything back and set up beds in order to sleep so we don't go to bed until nearly midnight and I have to work the next day. Why wasn't our installation prioritized for that day since it was missed on the promised day? Why were we put off until the LAST appointment instead of the first? Again, no customer service. I've waited 6 weeks since our installation before writing this review to see if they'd reach out and apologize for their screw up and Rob's disgusting response towards me. Nothing. Not an email or a phone call. When the 2nd set of installers heard the story, they apologized, which I appreciated, but felt it was the owners that should have been making the apology. It was the first time these installers worked for Gilford. Why do they recognize the behavior was unprofessional but not the owners? I have more floors to do but I'll be looking for a company that doesn't berate customers when they want an update on missed appointments. Rob made it clear when he said he "doesn't care". It shows and I'll be giving my money to a company that does care.
