The other two places, I will leave names out, 1 was a lot cheaper, but customer service was off. On top of that, I read some bad reviews. The 2nd spot, was a bit cheaper, about $400 but I wasn't too sure, had an off feeling about them too. Extended Homes was the most expensive, however, the service I received from Rachel made me feel so confident. To me, because of her reassuring us and the way she helped us every step of the way... she even told us not to do a few things, made me feel like she truly wants us to be happy, and not in it to make more money. I wanted to use a local business like Macadam rather than a big box to replace the carpet in our…read more220 sf bedroom plus 20 bound stair treads. The sales rep (who I won't name) helped us select carpet and scheduled measurement with one of their preferred installers, Carpet Workroom. So far so good. A few days later, I received the proposal and went into immediate sticker shock at the $6,785 price tag. $2,995 of which was for "fabrication and installation of the stair treads", plus another $1,250 for "time spent removing the old stair tread carpet pieces and preparing the substrate for the installation of the new carpet tread pieces". When I asked the sales rep for an explanation why these costs were so high, I received the following reply: "The amount of time it will take to prepare the stair treads by removing the adhesive that exists is costly...removal of the adhesives from the current installation can take a very long time to remove even with chemicals and scraping." Here's the crux of the matter: No adhesive was used on the stair treads or on any other part of the current installation. Only traditional carpet tack strips were used. The stair treads can easily be removed in a matter of minutes, and the carpet tack strips can be reused to install the new carpet. I pointed this to out to the sales rep with photos to prove it and indicated willingness to revisit the bid if he would provide a revised proposal with a reasonable price for fabricating and installing the stair treads. He did not reply. I subsequently went to another local company. Their bid? $2,800. Right about what I thought the job should and would cost. Caveat emptor.
