Shrimp fried rice
Stephanie W.

We came here for a birthday dinner with a group of 10 people on a Friday night and it was pretty dead. It was just us and two other tables the entire night. I came here for weddings and dim sum in the past before and the vibes have definitely changed. They closed off all the tables by the windows so we couldn't even get a table with a view, which defeats the purpose of their location. The staff recommended us a set dinner meal and said it was pretty good so we went with their suggestion. The dishes came out steadily but our fried rice did not come out until 7 out of the 10 dishes were brought out. You would think the rice would come out earlier so that we can enjoy it with the rest of the food but we had to ask them and tell them to bring the rice out quicker. Some dishes were good but others lacked flavor and didn't taste fresh. Some items were a bit undercooked as well. We paid $500 for this meal and it was very disappointing. There are lots of other restaurants in Alameda that are better quality and much cheaper.

Undercooked and freezer scented shrimp dumplings

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had on the island. I was shuffled between at least five different employees just to get seated, place an order, get a drink, and finally receive my food. I was dining alone and ordered only shrimp dumplings and a glass of Chardonnay, yet the wait was excessive. The wine arrived in what looked like a tasting-sized pour, and at $16 a glass, it felt particularly disappointing--especially since it was the only white wine option available. The restaurant itself felt neglected. The tables were wobbly, the décor was dated, there was a noticeable cigarette smell, and I even had to replace my own chopsticks after noticing lipstick on the pair initially provided. After waiting so long for my food, I stood up to ask for my check and cancel the order. At that point, the dumplings suddenly appeared, along with an offer of a fried bun as compensation. I declined and suggested they at least comp the wine given the experience, but they did not. The final bill was nearly $30 for a mediocre glass of wine and shrimp dumplings that were undercooked and unappetizing enough that I threw them away after a few bites. If you're looking for a quick meal before a movie, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. This was a disappointing waste of both time and money.

We came here to watch the dragon show. This restaurant is so beautiful. The show happens once a month .I thought it would be outside. So, next month I will be prepared. I will be watching the show and dining. The food smelled so good. Now mind you my cousin told me her daughter would love the show! She almost tipped the table over! She was terrified! So, I will be dining alone! I also, must read up on the history of the show. Thanks for viewing.

Solid dim sum option near the Marina with a nice view of the water. They should have higher reviews than these 1-2 stars. As an ABC, there's ample portions and average prices, and service is fine too. Similar ambiance to East Ocean but they have their own parking lot which is easier. The beef ball, beef rice roll, and baked bbq puff were our favorites. They do have an automatic 15% gratuity added to the bill as a FYI.

Came on a Sunday morning for Dim Sum because I saw that they have one of my favorite item, which is the Zhongshan Dumplings, made with fermented bean curd & pork and steamed. I love that as a kid and still do, always look for it when I'm at dim sum, but no one has it. I was delighted when I saw it on the menu. But that quickly went away because the dish had no flavor and thats goes for ALL their dim sum, every dish we had was lacking the authentic flavor. It was blend. Very disappointing. This is what we had - Shumai, Hargow, Beef Cheung Fun, Green Beans with Fish Cakes, Roasted Pork Belly, Golden Egg Yolk Bao, Honey Walnut Prawns, Gai Lan with Osyter Sauce, Beef Meatballs, Chinese Beef Tripes, Black Bean Garlic Pork Ribs & Lastly the very Chewy Fried Calamari's. The service was good and the servers were attentive. They refilled water and tea pretty fast.

Under new ownership! This place is definitely changing for the better and worth a second look! I love the ambiance and the view makes it what it is. The food is fantastic and I especially loved the Peking Duck and the Walnut Shrimp! The beef was very flavorful and the sticky rice was to die for as a nice filler with some meat. The service was great and they check in on you at the perfect rate to make sure your needs are met. We also had the Primitivo and the Mission wines which were a nice pairing with the food. The price is well worth it and if you are here or visiting from out of town! I very much will be coming back again here soon with my partner!

It's been years since I've stepped foot inside this restaurant. I remember their food being really good so decided to stop by for dinner with my family on a Saturday evening. I like that this restaurant is next to the water. The restaurant itself is huge and can accommodate weddings and big events. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and there were only a few tables occupied. The interior is a bit outdated. We ordered a few dishes but our favorite was the Mongolian Beef and the Marinated Pig Knuckle and Jelly Fish. The jelly fish was fresh and super crunchy. The buns for the Peking Duck did not look presentable and the duck itself had more meat than skin. The Salt & Pepper Pork Chops was not crispy and had a weird taste (not fresh) so it was brought back to the kitchen, and we replaced it with Salt and Pepper Fried Cuttlefish. The fish was a lot better but the batter could have been crispier. The House Special Fried Rice was pretty good and reminded me of a home cooked meal. The dishes could have been hotter when they came out. I'm glad I was able to stop by for dinner since it's been a while. I think their food is pretty authentic, but it just needs some tweaking to make the food taste better.

This place has th best view of all the Dim Sum Restaurants in the East Bay since it is located at the Marina. I wish they could improve on their food. I tired to wash off the grease from the vegetables by rinsing them with tea. Usually the oil will immediately separate from the food, floating to the surface of the tea as a slick layer. But somehow this didn't happen. Making me wonder why.

Beef brisket clay pot

Dropped by on Sunday evening for dinner service. There was a wedding banquet reception being held that was partitioned off and two large party rooms being occupied. The remaining area had about thirty tables with maybe six tables being occupied. Not many people dropping by besides the large parties. Ordered a variety of dishes to try. Don't recommend ordering the dinner set combos as the portions were significantly smaller and options weren't great to choose from. Combo sets were at the $32/person and picked roast duck, honey walnut prawns, and salt and pepper fish. Set comes with fried prawns, wonton soup, yang chow fried rice and red bean dessert soup. The duck didn't have much meat and seems like it was crisp up with oil being poured over. Salt pepper fish didnt have much flavor and the batter wasn't very crisp. Walnut prawns was standard as the wonton soup and fried rice. The fried shrimp was okay but rather have something else. In addition to the combo set, got the lobster, beef brisket clay pot and steamed oysters. The lobster and beef brisket had good flavor. The oysters didnt have much flavor and wasn't very plump. The food came out quick considering the parties going on. Not all items were eaten together as I had to ask about two remaining dishes. Service was on and off. Some individuals were attentive and at some points we have to wave down. I had dim sum here before and thought it was really good. Had good memories so will return in the future to try again. Parking was pretty tight as night so it might be a reoccurring problem

fish scales which we tried to remove ourselves

The thing that absolutely disgraced me and my family's experience was the $70 steamed fish we ordered which was not cleaned of fish scales. It was not just a little bit of fish scales here and there, it was as if the chefs forgot to clean the fish of scales entirely. The dish was inedible. Our server was super nice and tried to correct our dish. They ended up refunding us entirely and gave us free dessert to compensate. Apart from our misfortune with the fish dish, the service was decent. The ambiance was quiet due to lack of dinner customers and service. The view was amazing.

Definitely a must if you're in the area & craving some good Chinese food. A lot of options to choose from. The staff and service were beyond amazing. Highly recommend!

Jenny H.

I love the dimsum and the view. The salty fish fried rice is really good! Everything tasted good. Staff is nice. Only thing is that the br has a smell lol but hopefully it is gone by now

Waterfront dim sum - taste, fine. Prices are lower than East Ocean. Better options in the area.

I knew I wanted good Chinese food in a clean, safe area--not in Oakland, but with food just as good. We found Hong Kong City Cafe in Alameda, and the reviews looked promising. We walked in around 8:20 p.m., and the gentleman at the front let us know they closed at 9 p.m. I appreciated him making sure we knew before we sat down. We ordered some of our usual dishes so we could compare them to our favorite Chinese spot. The pork fried rice was good, but it had a little too much shredded lettuce for our liking. Thankfully, the pork was super tender and flavorful, so I would still give it an 8/10. I ordered the Wor Wonton Soup, and it probably had the best broth I've ever had. I can't explain the flavor--it was just DELICIOUS. It came loaded with pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, and shrimp-filled wontons. My husband ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and we both agreed it was the best we've ever had. I think the char on the vegetables really makes a difference. We also tried the Walnut Shrimp. It tasted more natural than other walnut shrimp we've had. We wished the shrimp had a little more crunch, but it was still really good. Overall, this was a 4/5-star experience. We wish we could have stayed longer, but they were closing, so we didn't want to hold them up. There was also a table of about 10 people drinking that made the restaurant really loud. Obviously, that's not the restaurant's fault, but it did affect our experience.

The broth was salty (but I love that) so I enjoyed. For the lunch plate, the friend rice was literally just rice fried with a scrambled egg. If you're into the healthier/plane fried rice, this is for you. If you want the salty, combination fried rice, don't do this add on. The chicken itself was VERY breaded and VERY sauce heavy, so if you're into that, this is for you. Personally, I like to taste the protein so I will probably opt for a different dish.

And it wasn't until quite a bit into the meal when the dishes started coming fast and hard. And next thing we knew, the table was piled high with food that all seemingly arrived at once. The portions were pretty sizable, and the food quality overall good to acceptable. They have a pretty large menu, so there is no shortage of options to choose from. Parking is available in their private lot, which is a huge plus.
