Pretty solid for Chinese food. Ordered the 3 dishes and soup. We had individual bowls of soup with dried bok choy and carrots. Soup was ok a bit bland. Entrees we ordered were beef with broccoli, the black pepper beef and the seafood tofu clay pot. We also ordered the wet Chow fun with scrambled eggs and shrimp. Food came out piping out and very tasty. Service was a bit slow as it was the street festival and they were busy. Definitely need to come back to try other items in the menu.

337 8th St Oakland, CA 94607 I was walking around Oakland Chinatown looking for a new place that serves noodle soups, and I decided to try Hay Yue. The storefront doesn't look nice, but the inside is clean and spacious. The staff mainly speak Chinese. The lady offered me a table, and gave me ice water and menus. While we chatted, I learned that Hay Yue and Guangdong BBQ (next door) are operating together. You can order their meats on the Hay Yue menu. I decided to order: - Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $13.98 - Deep Fried Shrimp, $10.98 (Note: $25 Minimum to use credit card) The beef stew noodle soup was good. It could of used a richer broth to go with the generous amount of thin noodles. But it had nice fatty beef chunks with tendon. Also some bok choy. It was good for $13.98. The fried shrimps were fresh and plump. Crispy batter and served up HOT! You get eight (8) in an order. Dipping sauce upon request. I think the restaurant should get rid of the ugly parklet in the street. It has no purpose now, and the restaurant has a large dining room. I will return and try their chow mein.

My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday. It was his pick for the choice of restaurant. This is our first time here. Service was not bad. We requested ice water for my husband and got tea for me. Those came right away. We ordered three dishes and came with soup. Overall, not too bad. If you want some Cantonese food in Oakland that has descent table seating, this is the place to go. They have QR code you can scan and order your food.

We got three dishes for ~$43. They forgot to bring complimentary soup so we just had to flag down a waitress. The salted fish eggplant clay pot was so good... and hot (temperature wise). It was oily but honestly that's to be expected lol. The pig intestine was so good.. the jalapenos were just a nice spice. The chinese brocoli was good and crunchy. Next time I'd just ask for chef to not put that much oil, but it was so good lolol The lemon tea was good and refreshing too! The staff are nice but when it's busy, it can be hard to flag someone down. Food came out fast!

Hay Yue opened where D & A Cafe, TK Cafe once was. Large tables & small. A few flatscreens. Was seated quickly upon entry. Given a menu. Patrons in morning mostly grandmas & grandpas. Online menus difficult to read. Mostly out of date. Handed almost 10 menus. Just picked the breakfast types. Landed on specials 9-11 a.m. Offerings (Guangdong, Hong Kong, China): HK in morning: breakfast specials-rice noodle rolls, porridge, rice noodle soups... Bites: Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls (7.50) -generous serving. NoodleTexture semi-silky, some falling apart. Sauce was salty. Medium size shrimp crunchy, flavorful. *HK Milk Tea comped-tasted slightly bitter, probably cuz I forgot to stir condensed milk to mix. Slurps: Mix Porridge (7.50) -tasted uber hot, watery. Didn't have much appetite to finish. Didn't stir bottom. Later when cooled. Discovered lots of offal on bottom: kidney, liver, hearts, pork pieces + ginger. Broth very tasty. *you tal ( fried Chinese donut) comped-crunchy, freshly made. **didn't know about freebies until waitress reminded me. Didn't read small print in Chinese. Spoke Cantonese with staff. 4.5 stars Breakfast special worthy. Quantity-only rice noodle roll slightly lacking. Quality-Great. *no rating for regular Guangdong menu

    Receipt and price

5/5 for portion and value. We ordered two lunch rice plates ($13-14 each), and they came with drinks, two sides, cabbage, and a large portion of rice. The BBQ was a bit dry and looked artificially colored, but the soy sauce chicken and roasted duck were juicy and tender. We tried both cold and hot milk tea, but they were lacking tea flavor. The free soup was a nice bonus. Overall, a decent meal for the price. The servers were all nice and friendly. This is a great plate for a quick cheap bite

Ordered take out and was quick, decent priced and so fresh and good. The service is quick, in Cantonese. Very satisfied.

Date: 10/25/2024 Time: 12:30 PM 70° Sunny I received a telephone call from my younger sister, inviting me to join her and my oldest sister for lunch at this restaurant. I have never dined here and it is my first time. After perusing the chow fun menu, we decided on having beef chow fun, Satay chicken chow fun and Singapore curry rice noodles. Service was prompt. We didn't wait long for lunch. Then the restaurant was not busy. The ambiance is a well lit restaurant with two flatscreen TV's mounted on the walls. Other decor included plants and bamboo in red planter. Beef Chow Fun: The aroma of this dish was pleasing. It was okay, but oily and greasy. (3 stars) Satay Chicken Chow Fun: Nice presentation of sliced chicken, green and red bell peppers and pineapple atop the chow fun. It was delicious, despite the chow fun being in clumps. (3.5 stars) Singapore Curry Rice Noodles: I haven't had this dish in I don't know how many years. It's one of my favorites. Rice noodles with curry and loaded with shrimp, slivered chicken and char siu. Delicious and quite enjoyable (4 stars). Fresh Chinese broccoli was excellent, sautéed to perfection, not overcooked and crunchy texture. (4 stars) The portions were generous for all three noodles dishes. I would like to return in the future to view their dim sum menu. Overall rating (3.5 stars rating rounded up to a 4 stars rating).

Back at it... Trying to discover a restaurant that will not disappoint offering flavor, customer service and affordable prices. Hay Yue Restaurant is located in Chinatown Oakland. This place is all about Chinese comfort food. The restaurant has a feel of a Mom's and Dad's, don't let that fool you. It can get noisy at times but it's not tremendously bad. I personally didn't mind it. I was greeted with a cup of artichoke soup which was surprisingly good. Then the rice and dishes. Great flavor! The tofu really stands out! The sponginess and mix of salt and sweetness just kept me wanting more! I loved the flavor and seasoning! I definitely loved their customer service, the menu is in Chinese I had to get help from the waiter translating the dishes names to English. I thought that was cool! I definitely recommend Hay Yue restaurant! And I'd love to revisit and enjoy more of the dishes this place has to offer.

drove by and stopped in with my family. saw a few families seating in and wanted to see what the hype was about. they closed at 9pm which is a lot later than a lot of other stores in chinatown. the menu is pretty broad with popular chinese dishes. honestly really affordable and huge portions! their online menu is limited towards the end of the night but that shouldn't deter customers. pretty solid place for a family outing, might top shooting star cafe for us.

It's getting harder to find places in the Bay Area that still do it this way, mostly because restaurants just don't have the space anymore for carts to weave between tightly packed tables. That alone makes this place feel a little special. The food itself tastes fresh, and yes, the hot sauce passes the test. I've had a few unfortunate (and slightly traumatizing) encounters with off-tasting sauces during the pandemic, so now I always do a cautious smell-and-taste check first. They also serve "tofu fa" (tofu pudding) with a sweet ginger syrup, which was a pleasant surprise. It's one of my favorite desserts and not something you see often at dim sum spots these days since it's not in high demand. Definitely brought back some nostalgic, childhood vibes. Just a heads up, this place gets busy quickly. If you can, try to arrive within the first hour after opening. Otherwise, be prepared to wait a bit, it's popular for a reason.

Favorites like the classic dumplings and steamed items are always satisfying, and it's a great place for sharing a variety of dishes with a group. We organized a large gathering of over 40 people for a business meeting, expecting at least a basic level of accommodation. Last year, this same restaurant had no issue providing WiFi access, which made it a viable option for professional use. This time, they flatly refused to share WiFi, offering no reasonable explanation or alternative. For a business group of that size, this is not a small inconvenience, it completely undermines the ability to coordinate, communicate, and function effectively. We turned some of our party away so the restaurant actually lost business. What makes this worse is the inconsistency. If the service was available before, there is no justification for the abrupt change, especially without any effort to work with a paying group of this scale. It sends a clear message that they are not interested in supporting business clients, regardless of group size or prior relationship. If you are planning any kind of professional gathering or need even minimal flexibility from the restaurant, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. This was a frustrating and avoidable experience that reflects poorly on their management and customer service. The food was okay, last year the room was perfectly decorated this year it looked like it was set up for a wedding which was rather odd for a business meeting as well.

This time, we ordered a few dishes to try - the classic sesame paste noodles, Shan Dong chicken, the fried rice with shrimp, and the hot spicy eggplant. Since we did order delivery on a busy Saturday night, it took a little over an hour for our food to arrive. The food was expertly packed and we were given plenty of utensils and napkins. The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. I'm always looking forward to my next visit and I love supporting Shan Dong!

After walking around to visit the many vendors, I decided to have lunch at Yung Kee on the corner of 9th & Webster Streets. One of my friends has dined here and recommended this restaurant for lunch. After perusing the menu, the choices were narrowed to chicken congee or shrimp and scrambled eggs over rice. The congee would have been good and the weather was cool. However, the last time I had shrimp and scrambled eggs over rice was at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco near my job in the Civic Center area over 12 years ago. Eats: shrimp and scrambled eggs over rice and a pot of hot tea. Drizzled with some soy sauce, my dish was delicious. The hot tea was perfect, flavorful and soothing when I drank about 5 cups. This was total comfort food and beverage that I almost doze off in the restaurant. For $15, it was a good deal. The only drawback was one of the employees was mopping the floor when I was eating my lunch. I will return in the future to have lunch again. I might even order food to go for dinner.
