Just left Pace's Steak House. I've been on a streak of negative reviews but that all changes tonight. They used to have a restaurant in Port Jefferson and we ate there many years ago. Wasn't impressed and eventually they closed and Old Fields came in. The Hauppauge location is the original and I'm happy I finally dined there. First, they have valet parking. I love this feature. I like just pulling up and letting someone else worry about parking my car. We had a reservation but walked in about 15 minutes early. No problem, we are immediately seated in the "Library Room ". I love the decor but immediately out waiter, Adam, introduces himself and has water followed by bread, brought to the table. Adam takes our drink order then runs throughout the specials. Adam and the rest of the wait staff are professionals not kids working while going to school, or "finding themselves". They speak properly and with knowledge of the food they are serving. I start with an app of Kobe Meatballs. These are not Swedish sized Meatballs, these are the size your grandmother used to make.i could only eat two and had the third packed to come home with me. These Meatballs are the real thing, real Kobe Beef, not the so called "American Kobe", whatever that is. So I order the 10-12 oz Filet Mignon and my wife has the marinated strip steak. Both cooked perfectly. Side note, table across from us orders the Porterhouse for two, along with a bottle of ketchup. I cried when I saw that and I'm tearing up now. They should have been asked to leave. Let's move on. Along with our steaks we had sautéed spinach, also yummy. This is s real Steak House, not Friday's or Applebee's, oh no. Went for the first time & decided to sit at bar on a Monday night. Very quiet night except there 3 men at the bar speaking loudly and dropping the F bomb often. I am there with my wife & too old to get into a fight, but had to move when I hear the one guy say she wanted to F me!!!. I don't know why people at an upscale steakhouse think this is acceptable? I was also surprised as I saw a manger walking around that the men were not spoken to. I know you don't want to turn away business, but this should not be tolerated. Bartender was great ! Very solid pours and friendly! I liked the overall vibe of the steakhouse, when seated I was immediately greeted by the two waiters that would be dedicated to us for dinner . I ordered the porterhouse for 1 , a petit filet mignon and for the sides we had onion rings, sweet potato and sautéed spinach. The steak was good and cooked to the requested temperature. The porterhouse for one was a good portion and took up most of the plate so it is understandable that there is not much you can do with the presentation. As you can see from the petit filet mignon with the onion rings picture .... the presentation was lacking or non existent. The vibe in the restaurant reminds of nyc which is fantastic and the waiters and manager are very responsive. I believe this is the nicest restaurant I've ever been in long island area (stony brook, smithtown, port jeff) The food review Porter house cooked as medium rare which was done okay. The meat itself tastes like regular stake. We had to ask for sauce. I honestly had better stake at wolfgang in city but im okay with this stake. There were three of us for 2 serving porterhouse and the amount was enough. Lobster tempura was great. It tastes like shrimp but with different texture. The sauce is chili sauce. I even dipped my stake there and it was okay. The portion was not good. There were only three. I wish there were more!! French onion soup was amazing. I was surprised with soup coming out through cheese but overall i really enjoy french onion soup. It reminded me of this french restaurant I visited awhile ago. Also the last picture is something that was attached to the top of garlic which is by side of steak. At first i thought it was hair but my acquaintance said it's part of garlic. I asked the waiter after we finished our meal and he had no idea‍‍ If the stake was better I would've given 5 star and not sure if the stake is dry aged. The ambiance was fine, table big, service was very good. Actually the avocado appetizer was delicious, the salads with blue cheese were delicious, the dessert was to die for. The steak was awful. We are steak snobs and this was not good. The porterhouse for two was burned on the outside. Not a delicious char but burnt. The filet side was passable in places but the sirloin was inedible. The couple at the next table were complaining about the same thing. If this was an aged steak, then the kitchen totally blew it. Will not return. We love Paces. We go every month or so and have never had a bad meal or service. The staff is always around for any need you have. and the food is second to none. Our bone in filets were cooked perfectly and were fork tender. Yes it's pricey but all upscale steak houses are, at least you'll know you're getting the best for your money. read more

Ten stars out of five! Even the BREAD was good! I don't even know where to begin. Pulling into the parking lot, the place seemed very unassuming. The atmosphere is dimly lit and old fashioned. The food has exceeded more than my expectations... I ordered a marinated New York shell steak. Given my past experiences with steak houses in the tri-state area, I wasn't expecting a whole lot but Pace's threw me a curveball with this beautifully charred monster sized steak. We arrived earlier & headed to the bar to wait for our friends to arrive. They had a gentleman who was singing & playing the piano. He was truly amazing. We were all seated in the back room which was like a library room & it was extremely loud during dinner. Our waiter told us what the special was & gave us a great recommendation. The bread basket had amazing Flats. I had no idea that the pre-sliced bread had garlic butter on it until the person mentioned it after I got it all over my hands. I could have done without the butter. It lacked the garlic. We started off with. Warm appetizers Calamari, Shrimp, Crab and Baked Clams would have been the best if they had more clams. Dinner arrived the Presentation of my Seafood Platter was delicious & amazing. My husband Filet looked lost of such a large plate. The Porterhouses was marinated in a teriyaki sauce which made the texture of the steak not enjoyable. They would never order the teriyaki on it again. No one ever came over to the table to ask how our food was after it was served. For dessert we had the lava cake which had a frozen taste & the look like the volcano had exploded. I guess it depends on what chef is there as far as ratings go. We were last there 1 year ago to the day and it was fantastic then. Today not so much. First issue were the gnats flying around us. Then the meal. Petite filet asked for well done ( don't judge please) It was burned to a crisp and tasteless. Creamed spinach barely warm and tasteless as were the garlic mashed potatoes. The lobster tail tasted odd and was chewy. We were so disappointed with our meal. It's a very nice restaurant inside and friendly staff. The manager was kind enough to remove the steak from the bill, he saw for himself it was literally inedible. Shame on the chef to send something that looked like a piece of tire on a plate out of his kitchen! Don't know if we will try it again , will keep my eye on current reviews. Ate at the bar for my first time. Laura my bartender was wonderful. They were actually filming a Yelp video when I was there. Maybe you'll see her. Found out my awesome waiter from the previous time was named Kyle. How did I find that out when I sat at the bar?! Because you meet the nicest people at the bar, & some nice ladies Gina & Crystal introduced me to him. I had ordered the mussels Luciano which were on special before JoJo showed up. My coworker JoJo met me because this is his spot, on a regular & he informed me I HAD to get the Fun Platter for 2. He was spot on! The Fun Platter was a filling Platter! Best bang for your buck. Shrimp Cocktail, Fresh Mozzarella with Roasted Peppers & Pesto, the most delicious Caesar salad & Steak. So why 4 stars & not 5? Still temperature issues for me. Ok steak, good drinks. Everything else was a miss. The "colossal" chilled crab appetizer was pretty small with coctail sauce that had more sugar than the Domino factory. The lobster tempura rather bland. The duckling - 2 entirely overcooked, dry duck legs. The porterhouse was so,so and for $16 they added 3! scallops!! 3! That is just an insult! By far the best steak I have ever had. I live not to far and can't believe I haven't been here before. This is a real steakhouse.

The food here is usually pretty good here. We went for Valentines day a couple times now but always seem to be too close to the bar which is too loud. There is a door separating the bar and restaurant which when closed was good but sometimes the door would be left open and you could hear the people at the bar very clearly. I most recently had the stuffed salmon which is a seasonal item for $38. The stuffing had a few pieces of seafood like a tiny scallop and shrimp. The flavors worked really well together and the salmon was flaky. My boyfriend had filet mignon, steak sauce, and steak fries. The steak fries were pretty good, nice and crispy with fluffy inside. We also ordered the lava cake for $10 which was pretty good. We dont think we will come here again because the bar is just too loud even when we're in the restaurant section of the building. I love the feel of this place. Very relaxing and nostalgic. The bar is sexy and welcoming. The dining rooms are on the darker side, cozy and romantic. I had a nice glass of Pinot noir with their bacon cheese burger with all the sides served to you on a silver platter. What a gorgeous presentation for a cheeseburger. My brother really liked it here, I found it just alright. While the service is really good, the steaks are about average, nothing too special. He had the ribeye and I had the filet. While juicy, I found it to be a little bland. For apps we split the Kobe beef meatballs, which were better than the steak! I also got a side of baked potato, but still not the crispy baked potato I love! As simple as that side is, I personally just love a good crispy baked potato with a steak, and this wasn't it. Hubby and I went tonight and we really enjoyed it! We had a Groupon that cost $30 for a $60 voucher. You are required essentially to use the valet parking...which is a bit rediculous considering there is plenty of parking. It is dark and decorated somewhere between a typical steak house and Italian restaurant. Service was wonderful. The bread they put on the table is delicious. All meals come with complementary salad. Had the creamy cucumber dressing, it was very good! I ordered the lobster bisque. Nice amount of lobster pieces in the huge bowl of soup. Very generous portion. We ordered the porterhouse for two. It comes charred and you can get sauce options on the side or on the steak.
