I stopped by Pablo Picante after a morning at the Book of Kells exhibit. It was the only place I could find in the area that fit my requirement of a portable lunch since I was on my way to another sightseeing location. The people working the counter were extremely nice and service was pretty fast. My burrito, however, was just alright. I liked the tortilla but the inside was good but not great. I also remember asking about the types of sauces they had and one of them was simply tomato and mayo or something like that. Not very authentic, unfortunately. Pros: quick in and out, a cute table or two outside, friendly staff, good location. Cons: Taste. Wish it was more "authentic." Mi amigo Pablo has expanded to two burriterias. Location numero dos is spacious and bright, with seats for a few dozen at two long tables and a curving high counter after you've squeezed in through the muy pequeno front door. The music is wonderful. Surfer riffs intersperse with south-of-the-border beats like limes with tequila. I like the mural on the far wall, documenting la historia de Pablo through Mexico and the southwestern US. Sadly, they have misspelled "Tuscon," Arizona... For the first time, I got a bean and cheese burrito. It had more texture than I expected, with whole black beans rather than just refries, plus rice. Sadly, it was also cooler than I expected: not toasted long enough! I didn't find any melty cheese adorning my bites and I would have loved that. They put in lettuce for crunch, which was a very nice touch, and the salsa of my choice. Pablo II has created a salsa menu with five spicinesses, including characterizations of the peppers. High-cinco for that. I approve. I predict grande success for Pablo in his new place, which is muy central but also off the drunken path just a bit. As he's honest-to-goodness right across the street from my doctor, I see myself racking up many prescriptions for tastiness! PLUS they now have a student special called El Cinco. First stop for Yelp's Burrito Blow Out and it really is an auspicious start. It's a very casual and colourful place, just like you'd expect from a burrito bar. I love the moto they have outside, it's quite democratic: "Burritos para todos!". So don't expect too much snobbery from these guys (: And that's exactly what they deliver: nice staff, a well explained and diverse menu and big portions. I tried two of their burritos and they were both consistently good. What I really liked about them was that the isolated ingredients all were flavoursome, not just a bunch of mushy stuff thrown together with a salsa. It was quite dense too, and it held perfectly together until the very end (oh yes, I give it full five stars on the "Stay togetherness" point). The sauces are good - I only tried the Picante and Salsa Verde; I like hot sauces and these really suited my taste as they're hot enough to make you have a sip at your drink every other bite but not terribly overpowering. Fresh & Delicious ! I have been a fan of Pablos since it first opened and have stood in the Q half way around the block at Pembroke Street many a lunch time - and always worth the wait. The portion sizes are really good and the ingredients are super fresh. I had a taste of all 5 different salas yesterday and have picked some new favourites. I find the burritos are not as flavoursome as some other burrito joints but maybe now that I have a better understanding of the different salsas I might be able to spice up my order a little bit and get it to my own taste. The restaurant itself is great - I love their sense of humour and you can't help but love Pablo ! In terms of value I think they are pretty good - everything is well priced especially the bottled beer at €3.50. read more

Their burrito failed on a few fronts. Size matters and I was hoping for a Mission style monster but it was more a baby cousin in size. A burrito also needs to be tightly wrapped to combat the natural mushiness of the ingredients. Mine couldn't quite muster the backbone needed to be sturdy. I also got one of the spicer salsas but couldn't taste any heat at all. Your heat needs be cranked up! And finally, the ingredients were just bland and needed more flavour. I finally got to try Pablo Picante again after the original kick off for the Blow Out event. The service was very friendly and attentive. From what I could see that wasn't just due to my passport ;-) The staff seemed to be mainly spanish / portuguese speaking which to me added to the Mexican atmosphere. Interiour is simple as you would expect it. Just the music took away a few points for me - quite a change in style from title to title. I went for the "El Classico" burrito and almost stuggled to finish it as it was quite big and rich with fillings - but delicious. As I don't like it too spicy I went for the "medio" Salsa which was lovely. Nonetheless I tried one of the sauces on the table. The green one and it almost blew me away ;-) I was glad to have my water. Overall a very pleasant dinner and Pablo Picante are on my list to visit more often. read more

Im lately a fan of burritos it seems and the pulled pork burrito i had here today was nice, filling and spicy good. The staff seemed genuinely to enjoy working there and had a smile for each customer that came their way. I was served by a nice girl that was patient as i pondered over how spicy i would like my salsa; mild, with jalapenos or really kick ass chilli. I chose the mild spicy and that was enough! The tables are trendy but not too comfortable as the actual table was too far away from the bench and meant i have to sit on the edge of the bench which is not good for my temperamental back. Now this could be of course my own fault as my taste buds have been ruined by other Mexican food establishments that have lambasted me with greasy and sautéed burritos. Pablo does have the most authentic feel of all the Mexican Restaurants I have been to in Dublin. You don't feel like you need an emergency surgery after one of their great options. My hangover go to place. While everyone around me talks about how big their fry is going to be, all that's in my head is ...what time does Pablos open again on a Sunday? As a relative newbie to the world of burritos ( I used to think they were just posh kebabs) I now can't imagine life without them. Also as someone with no imagination, Pablos menus do it for me as they already have a pre set list of burritos ideas you can order. None of this... choose your individual ingredients lark from our list of 100 items and hold up our queues. While a Victorio Verde (veggie burrito) might not be everyones taste for breakfast I would highly recommend it. In fact I might just get drunk again so I can have one again in the morning. read more

I love just the basic bean and cheese burrito. 5 euro. Very nice. I don't know why, but this Pablo Picante tastes better than the one on Aston Quay, but similar to the one on Dawson street. Anyhow, its very good and tastes similar to the stuffs I've eaten before. I think it's the refried beans. I think this might be unpopular to say, but I've tried just about every Mexican restaurant around city centre and this chain is probably the best - just not the one on Aston Quay. read more

BIG SAD FACE :( I am a serious burrito hunter. In the case of Pablo Picante, the hunt started out slowly. I tried stopping by twice but they were always closed. Now their website has been updated to include the new location and it states they are closed Sundays. No wonder. Finally, hubs and I had no dinner plans for a Tuesday night and we excitedly set off for Clarendon Market. First disappointment of the night was the announcement as we came in the door that they were sold of out of meats except for Mexicali Mince. In English that translates as hamburger mince so hubs and I both opted for the Victorio Verde vegetarian option with guacamole included. Second disappointment was ordering mine "extra extra extra spicy" and sadly, Pablo did not deliver. I was handed a bottle of hot sauce (tasted a lot like Melinda's Habanero Sauce, which I hate due to the high water content, lack of heat, and little pepper flavor). Needless to say, that did not satisfy my craving for heat. I noticed my favorite hot sauce of all time--Yucateco Green Habanero--in a glass cupboard on the wall and my tongue perked up. They also had Dave's Insanity, which packs serious heat. I asked for some but was informed that the sauce selection was only for looks and they don't let customers use it. Boo. Third disappointment was the sad burrito itself. The content was overwhelmed by a tasteless white rice with no hint of the lime or cilantro promised by the menu. I detected no beans, even though the menu clearly stated I should have received both black AND refried beans. They either skimped or forgot all together. Then there were the grilled vegetables, which consisted mostly of cooked mushy tomatoes supplemented with some small diced red onion and a few stray green peppers. Stewed tomatoes? Seriously that is gross. I blame the tomato mush as the main culprit in the resulting drippy wet-diaper burrito situation I had on my hands. One star for decor and one star for the delicious guacamole. Unfortunately, (wo)man cannot live on guacamole alone. Que lastima. read more

Holy guacamole Batman, I'm a Pablo Picante convert! I had been to Pablo Picantes on two occasions before at two different locations (here once and the Pablos on Baggot street) and to be honest, neither blew me away. But after the first Burrito Blow Out evening here at Pablo Picante on Clarendon Market, I got an better understanding of their salsas and their difference meat fillers, that I was able to choose my next burrito order more carefully. Today I went for the Cali Carnitas with Smokie Salsa and it rocked socks. It was fresh, it actually tasted fresh because of the lime juice. The pork was very tender and not dry. The Smokey sauce added a really nice flavour to it overall. The beans were not hard and had flavour to them, something I have noticed not to be the case in other burrito houses. I think my main mistake when it comes to burritos is I normally order beef filler, when I should be diversifying to other fillers. I am glad I went for the pork today. One aspect that lost a star was the Atmosphere, which was for two reasons: the loud bang the door makes every time some one let it slam shut and the constant shouting of order numbers by staff as they became ready. So I think I will go upstairs next time. Also another star lost because the burrito did start to leak and fall apart as I got to the last quarter, I had to grab a bunch load of napkins and a fork from the counter an impending messy disaster. The lady working the floor, clearing tables and bringing orders to people was very nice and very helpful to every one I saw her dealing with. Overall 5/5. Pablo Picante has now three locations in Dublin (Lower Baggot, Temple Bar, Clarendon Market). The one at Clarendon Market is the bigger one, with more seating options and an upstairs area. What can I say, the food is great! Large burritos, fresh ingredients, and very very tasty. I got my "Burrito education" in Southern California but Pablo Picante gets everything right - they have a variety of flavors, meat choices, and salsas. On top of it, the staff is very friendly and helpful if you have questions about your burrito. Adding a Breakfast Burrito to the menu and my dream would come true. This review was posted about the wrong location a while back, I just realised that so here it is again for the right branch of Pablo Picante: Definitely the only place in Dublin that serves good burritos. The ingredients are fresh, and while I hate coriander (and it's mixed into the rice, guacamole and some sauces) I couldn't taste it at all, so yay for me. Why two stars? I remove two stars because after I purchased food and drink for myself and my partner, we asked for a glass of tap water. They would not give it to us! Their excuse was ludicrous: we have no cold water out of the taps. I have to add that I'm very visibly pregnant (a few days short of 9 months) and I just wanted a damn glass of water with my drink in case it wasn't enough. This place seems to have turned for the worse in the past year or so. Food is overcooked and oversalted to disguise how bland it is, the chips are stale and taste like the ready salted chips from Tesco, the guac is mealy and usually brown. The sauces and veg are watery, especially when packed into a burrito. They must make their money moreso on demand rather than reputation as there are lots more delicious food places in the area to buy your lunch from. Staff are rude too - but that sort of attitude is more often than not coming from the top down at management level. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Who is the best burrito place in Dublin? I don't have the pretention to answer that question, but Pablo Picante is definitely in my top 3 list. This cute taqueria hidden in a small street of the city center will delight you. It's a great place to go eating even in groups of 7 or 8 as there are a few big tables. You can also eat outside if the sun is showing. You have a choice of approximately 8 burritos, all more exciting than the others. I went for the Senor Sli; Delgado, a burrito without rice but with chicken, feta, pintos and guacamole. It was HUGE, and super tasty. You could tell that they were using fresh products, the chicken was very tasty, the sauce delightfully spicy, and the feta was truly a great addition to the burrito. I also tried the chicken quesadillas. And that my friend, is a reason to loose your mind and take 10 pounds in one single day. Cheesy, tasty, crispy. Well, more like 'cheeeeeeeeesy'. Pretty decadent tortillas covered in cheese, filled with chicken and grilled at the perfection. You deep them in hot sauce or guacamole, and daaaaamn that's good!! As a consequence, I would definitely recommend going to Pablo Picante of Clarendon Market, which has their full menu and a great location where the bravest wrestlers can even eat outside. Pablo Picante, as long you keep the quality of your food you will have no problem with the other Mexican places. This is defo the best burrito place in town. My favourite burrito is the chicken Sonny Son Diego and recently tried their light chicken option which has no rice, and the good thing of it is that you can eat it all and you won't feel that your stomach is bloating. So highly recommend. Order an extra side of cremosa sauce and u will be in heaven. The only negative point of this place is that they close at 9pm and they simply won't serve u even if it's 9:05.. Sorry but I just don't get this place... Last Thursday was my second visit (ever...) and I went back because of the Yelp Burrito Blow Out otherwise I wouldn't have... Don't take me wrong I absolute love burritos but not in this place... It just didn't do it the first time and it didn't do it the second time either... Went with 2 friends, I ordered first... I didn't know what so I ordered the "Señor 'Slim' Delgado" cause I saw ppl going on about it on Yelp! and a drink (which was not too bad for the price)... Then one of my friends asked for quesadillas without any spice (she can't eat spicy food at all)... The girl at the till said the quesadillas had no meat if that was ok for her so my friend asked "what can I order from the menu that would have no spice?"; the girl at the till said, "ehmm... Cheese?" - Apparently all their meat (pork, chicken, beef, etc...) is spicy or has been cooked in some sort of spice... My friend was left there without any other alternative so she didn't order anything and went home... I stayed with my other friend cause my order was already paid and they were preparing it otherwise we would have left and went somewhere else... The burrito I ordered was average, nothing special.... The chicken was supposed to be roasted and marinated but it was kinda mushed, the black beans were liquid-ish and I didn't taste the feta cheese nor the guacamole (saw it in there though)... That's why i saw on our table a green sauce that looked like guacamole so I reached out and added a bit to my burrito and OH MY!!OH MY!!OH MY!! it was hot... so hot that I start crying!! How can they have bottled sauces on the tables without any type of label?! I'm sure that wasn't guacamole and im not the first person to think otherwise... So I have to give this place a 2 stars... why?? 1st - cause the staff didn't offer an non-spicy alternative to my friend (only cheese)... Its very Mexican with the tiles on the outside and wooden chairs and bright floral tablecloth. Anyway, I had a vegetarian burrito ( victorio verde) or something like that and m God it was delicious. Everything was good, atmosphere, food, music all together. I know i am coming again for those crazy burritos. read more

Ever since going here last year, my family and I have become regular customers here, going at least once a month, sometimes more. With their massive portions, low prices and delicious, fresh ingredients they have quickly become one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. Although my guess is that its not quite as good as the Californian burritos that it says it is, I'm sure that this is as close as you can get to it in Dublin I would suggest to go there to everyone, especially if you are a student because a burrito only costs 5 euro! read more

Love the decor of this place but I had burrito last night which was not very nice. I went for the pulled pork with salsa Verde. The burrito was ok in constancy but the taste wasn't great. Also some of the ingredients were really cold so my first bite was basically a cold mouth full of chilli sauce. As I progressed through the burrito I kept on getting bits of chili stalks which I had to pull out of my mouth. About two thirds through I gave up eating it. I've given three stars because on the previous night I had some sample food there which was very nice. Otherwise this would have been two stars. Fake mexican food. I don't even want to call it 'tex mex' because all the meats are slow cooked, not marinated and grilled (except the ground beef). Tortilla chips are fake too. It's like eating bland doritos. I find that Boojum, Burritos & Blues, etc are all the same and it pains me that there's a burrito called San Diego - which as a San Diegan, I find offensive. I went here for the Yelp Burrito Blow out. The staff were super friendly and the decor and atmosphere were really cool and fun. I tried all their dips and salsa and I have to say they all were very tasty with a great range of flavours and hotness. They use as many traditional Mexican ingredients as they can source locally and try to keep all their recipes as authentically Mexican as possible. I sampled some of their tortas and they were mouth watering good, I am salivating just thinking about them as I write! I am just to try their burritos, they had no veggie burritos to sample, but they looked delicious. I will update the review when I go back, and I will be going back! read more

My second visit but my first time actually eating here. I went for the Victorio Verde, minus the feta cheese, with jalepeno and the new edition salsa diablo, 6th on the scale. HOT!!! I had to stop a couple of times to wipe the tears from my eyes. Total win for the spicy goodness. Also, top points for dispersion of ingredients, every bite was filled with flavour and texture. The tortilla itself was nice and toasty on the outside too and the huge helping of peppers and beans made it a very generous meal. My only gripe was the service - sorry guys, but we placed two orders and only one came. After a very polite 15 minute wait I asked where our order had gone and there was a lot of confusion. When we finally got the burrito there was no apology. Very bad call, since we came bearing passports! That's the only reason I'm deducting a star, as the food was amazing, and the venue too. I was here recently for a yelp event, but had been here once before on my own. The food tasty, fresh, and definitely authentically Mexican. The staff here are very helpful, and if you have any questions about the burritos or salsas, they are really good at giving recommendations. Both times I've been there, I had their Cali Carnitas burrito. The rice in the burrito is a lot softer than other places I've been, and their cheese is actually melted, as opposed to some other places where the cheese is added, but not melted in the burrito. The burritos here come off a set menu, but if you want to make your own, they give you that option as well. So the sky's the limit when it comes to what you want in your burrito! I guess so long as it's an ingredient that actually belongs in a burrito, ha ha. I also really like that they have a wide variety of salsas (warning, the super picante is HOT!!!) Being that I'm not Irish, I'm used to have the really spicy Mexican food from back home, so I really like that they offer salsas that are ACTUALLY hot. read more

My first experience at Pablo Picante was for the first venue on Yelp's Burrito Blowout. The event itself was a lot of fun. We got to hear about Pablo Picante's beginnings and about the burrito's entrance into Dublin. The slideshow was very informative and it was interesting to hear what they were trying to accomplish with Pablo Picante. They brought out all of their different salsas and portions of food they offer, which I would have loved to try but didn't really get the chance. Sadly, the food that was brought to our table was not enough to go around and I only got to sample one triangle of a cheese quesadilla :( It would have been great if they could have brought out some tortilla chips so we could have had a chance to try all the different salsas. After a bit of sampling we had the opportunity to try different mezcals and tequila. We were taught how to really enjoy them and not just use them as a "shot" drink. In the end, I ordered a barbacoa burrito. I have to say it definitely was one of the better burritos I have had in Dublin. The textures were just right and I really enjoyed the smokey salsa. The burrito stayed together nicely which is always important and the distribution was even. The beef was cooked nicely and was perfectly moist (not too moist though, I hate when its overcooked!) I will definitely return to Pablo Picante again, and of course thanks to them and Emily for putting on the event! read more
