Either your oil needed to be changed 2 days ago, or your timer stopped working. Both came out brown and tasted of bitter overused oil. Now to the burger. I do appreciate the amount of pickle slices on this burger, but this heavy hand was also responsible for the mustard levels! I think i'll be tasting mustard for a couple days. I remember walking to this place when I was growing up and the thing I 100% give them credit for is that they are the same quality of food today as they were back then. When you look at a lot of fast food burger joints that were around back when I used to eat here - Jack in the Box, Wendy's - what they serve today is VASTLY different than what they used to serve back then and a lot of that has to do with cost and speed. Short Stop has managed to keep both of these in check while still delivering a great product and I respect that! Burgers here are phenomenal and the crazy part is you can't compare them to anything because they have their own unique taste. Its certainly better than anything you can get fast-food-wise like Wendy's or Jack in the Box. I've only had P. Terry's once and I'd say this is even better than that. It tastes grilled but not with the overly charcoal taste of say Burger King and all of the lettuce, tomatoes and toppings just taste very fresh. Usually I don't like tomatoes on my burger or onions because people just overdue them and it derails the taste. They have gotten that formula down where when you take a bite it's the perfect blend of everything doing it's part to create a full, unique taste palette. And this one of the only places where I can get a burger and there won't be anything left. Fries are usually also on point. I've always heard good things about the fish but I'm never in town on Friday's when they serve it. But if it's anything like the burgers I believe the hype (and that's rare from me!). The only reason for the -1 is I did see that 77 health score rating which is concerning, especially when they're usually up there in the 90's. Please don't tarnish this gem. I'm thankful every time I come to Austin and this location is still standing and still open for business and I make a point to stop by and do my part to keep it that way, but that also relies on you doing your part as well.

It was either too busy or just out of the way for me. At my girlfriend's request, she wanted De Nada. We got De Nada. With no reservations and no plans on a mid-Saturday, we were understandably banished to the outdoor tables. It was a hot day, but with the fan blowing and the cold drinks flowing, I thought we'd be alright. We scanned their QR code menu and got our drinks ordered. Me with a Modelo Negra, and my girlfriend with their Beso De Sandia frozen, with Mezcal, Chamoy, watermelon, and lime. We also ordered chips with Queso Blanco and Salsa Verde with our drinks. The queso was brought to us within the minute we ordered. No joke. It was efficient. Capital F fast. With our drinks eventually brought out, we were honestly chilling. My girlfriend previously had a vegan enchilada she really liked that they didn't have this time, so she went for a Camote taco. I went for their Pollo and their Barbacoa. While we waited, we were putting in active work on that queso, which we knew we would feel later. The tacos came out very quickly too. On my Pollo was confit chicken, poblano peppers, cheese, cilantro, and onions. I was hungry at this point of the day, so it wasn't long before I destroyed it. The Barbacoa had beef, habanero salsa, cilantro, and pickled onions. It was also an excellent pick. On both, the blue corn tortillas were thick, added a touch of sweetness, and just made the experience a little more fun. In seeing the pink menus, the overall aesthetic of De Nada, hearing the talk of the town, and just knowing the run around here, I didn't expect De Nada to have cheap tacos. $5.50 for the chicken taco is a little hard to justify, and $7.75 for barbacoa is intense, but everything hit the spot, and we rolled out spending about $50 plus tip between the two of us, so it wasn't anything too out of the ordinary for a lunch. I just do think going in with the expectation that it's those Austin prices, you'll be less shocked down the stretch, and if you're less shocked, you can actually enjoy the great food they throw down here. They kept telling us we had hit the limit of how many drinks we can have. The limit is two large margaritas per person. All of the cups were on the table, so it was very easy to see that two of the ladies had had two small margaritas and I had had one large margarita. Despite the physical evidence of this, they kept saying they needed to check their order. Well, we would also like them to check the order if they were planning to charge everyone for two large margaritas! Then some friends joined us and the staff said there was a two hour limit to our table. We said we had four new people joining, who were going to order food and drinks, and could we stay with them? They continued to insist that we needed to close out because we had hit the limit, which we hadn't, and then wouldn't let us add chairs to the table. But then they made us move tables to a different section. Now they have still not taken a new drink order because they are claiming we hit the limit that we haven't hit. It's a Wednesday night and there are plenty of open tables and no one with me is actually drunk. What is happening here?
