I was told this was the "In N Out of TX".... I can see why one would think that but it's not the same. Came here for a late night snack after the bars, and luckily they're now 24hours! We ordered a cheeseburger and fries and I'll say that the produce tasted fresh, the meat itself and bun were good. My highest disappointment was that there was no secret sauce on our burger so it was pretty plain. The fries were okay. A little plain too but their ranch was pretty bomb, not gonna lie. I feel like this is the one millionth P. Terry's I have been to since moving to Austin (which I did way back in 2019), and honestly I am not mad about it. It's lovely like the rest. The staff is friendly and they are cranking out burgers for lunch and dinner at a wild rate. I am just realizing that I have never had P. Terry's breakfast food. I might have to do that soon! This location is well kept and the vibes are cute, so really it's a perfectly fine place to stop in for your burger fix. The veggie burgers are just as good here as they are at any other P. Terry's. I'm told the regular burgers are good as well. It's taken a million for me to say that this chain has really nailed consistency. Lol. What a vibe! This place has such a great setup with a bunch of outdoor picnic tables, lights, accessible bathrooms with codes for entry. Came for a pop up disco on national cheeseburger day and so happy I did! What an amazing event and great food/service. Terry's is an Austin staple and, to a lot of outsiders, a staple of a post-Austin City Limits Music Festival meal. With 75,000 attendees visiting Zilker Park each day, foot traffic to the surrounding businesses off Barton Springs is inevitable. When the festival's headliner wishes the crowd good night and the sweaty, sunburned attendees head to the exits, the horde of slightly intoxicated 20-year-olds is starved for a cheap and greasy meal. The original and first-ever P. Terry's is a clear heavyweight for most post-ACL festival-goers. Earlier this year, that P. Terry's changed its hours to be open 24 hours, but they're putting a full day's worth of work into the two hours after ACL wraps up for the night. In addition to the walk-up window, the two drive-thru windows are blocked off from traffic, allowing more foot traffic to attack P. Terry's from all sides. Those employees are putting in work like it's the extra innings of an elimination game. The line moves steadily, with orders going out at a constant rate. No more than a minute for a shake or a soda and no more than ten minutes for a meal. Maybe it's the 11 pm hunger, but I think that when a restaurant like P. Terry's is trying to get as many orders out as quickly as possible in the wee hours of the night, they hit even harder. It's the passion they put in. I went to this P. Terry's all three days of ACL Weekend Two and ordered the exact same meal: the double cheeseburger combo with fries and an Oreo shake. Their shoestring fries and densely packed burgers hit every time, and that Oreo shake is the perfect amount of sugar to keep me alive until I get back to my apartment. The outdoor seating courtyard is a decent size, and people go in and out, so it was never a challenge to get a table. But if that is too difficult and you're too hungry, you can be like the hundred other ACL attendees and eat your burger off the curb like a true American patriot. The food is higher quality than most chain fast-food restaurants, and the prices are still affordable. A double cheeseburger combo with fries and a soft drink is still under $10. I am visiting Austin once again. This is my third time visiting a P. Terrys, which is located mostly in the Austin area. They are all different, in regard to the building design. I ordered a hamburger meal with lemonade. The fries are cut like a shoe string and seasoned well. The hamburger bun has a sweet taste to it, and a egg bun. The lemonade is supposed to be freshly squeezed, but I'm skeptical. It tastes like Simply. It's definitively different than braums. Got to try this place while I stayed in Austin for a few days. I honestly didn't know what to expect. My sister and I went through the drive thru and ordered a bunch of food for the family. Some items that I got to try: Cheeseburger (no veggies) Cheeseburger with veggies Fries Strawberry Shake Drive thru was rather quick. The person taking our order rushed us a bit. Every time we added to our order, his response was like, "uh huh... ok. uh huh.. ok.. uh huh.. ok.." Food didn't take too long. When we finally got home, first thing I tried was my son's cheeseburger with no veggies. The first thing that popped in my mind when I tried his burger was McDonald's. It totally reminded me of McDonald's cheeseburger. The taste was very similar. The fries, on the other hand, were nothing to compared to McDonald's. They were a bit limp, soggy and overcooked. I didn't really like them as I do McDonald's. The strawberry shake was pretty decent, but I prefer In N Out's version. And if I do end up ordering here again, I'd prefer the cheeseburger with veggies. Overall, this establishment is a grade lower than McDonald's. Wow - I last reviewed this P. Terry's in 2015 - almost 10 years ago. I was a vegetarian then, so I thought I should update the review even though I'm not changing the three star rating. I had a very late night burger from P. Terry's a couple of weeks ago (we had a delayed flight that got in after 1 am). Good news? P. Terry's is open until LATE (1am on weekdays, 3am on Fri/Sat and Sat/Sun night). However, I just think their burger is okay. It wasn't hot enough that the cheese melted, and it was a serious of wedge of cold lettuce on top (the ratio of burger to lettuce had to be 2:1). Not bad, just not great. This is the original location, and I like to support local spots, but P. Terry's just isn't anything I would demand friends visit on visits to Austin. read more

I was immediately shocked by the affordability compared to other burger chains. The service was standard for a drive through. The burgers were just okay? Like not worst burger I've had, but nothing special. The menu says there's a special sauce but they just have skipped that. The fries has no flavor and were sorta damp and limp. My husbands milkshake was liquid, like it has sat out. A little disappointed. I appreciate this place for keeping prices and the menu nostalgic, but I don't see the draw outside of that. read more

My boyfriend and I came here and had a great old time. P-Terry's always has a bit of a local feel to it, but that's particularly true for this location. The employees were super nice, the patrons were all super cool, and the food was good and promptly made. What's not to love. The outside seating area had a quaint simplicity to it that felt oddly West Coast (in a good way) and made for a good spot to chow down on some delicious burgers and milkshakes. First time at the famous P. Terry's and I approached it with the perspective of comparing it to In-N-Out. After all, both are regional burger joints that focus on fresh ingredients. While the fries are better here, think I prefer In-N-Out's burger more. Double Cheeseburger: The centerpiece of a burger restaurant. The patties were kinda thin and cooked well done. Not quite a "smash burger" because it's not thick enough, but similar texture. The cheese was yellow and mild and fatty, a nice complement to the burger. It hadn't melted much, so I imagine they added it after the burger left the grill. I asked for pickles and onions, in addition to the default toppings, but only got the pickles. Seemed like they were a little too heavy on the iceberg lettuce, making some bites seem too salad-y. Fries: Very thin with a moderately crispy texture. Fresh once-fried fries are notoriously hard to get crispy, compared to big chains that fry-freeze-refry their crispy fries. While no competition for McDonald's, definitely better than the thicker limp fries of In-N-Out. Strawberry Milkshake: Since they're all about fresh ingredients here, I was hoping this would be like fresh strawberries blended with ice cream. It looked like they used a strawberry syrup and I didn't see any little strawberry seeds. Was lighter than a typical milkshake, which made it go down smoothly along with the burger. Lemonade: Decided to get this because it was freshly made. And it seemed fresh. But it was a tad too sour for my tastes, either needing more water or more sugar or both. read more

This review probably shouldn't count for much as I've only tried their root beer milkshake, but it was yummy! It tastes like a root beer float with a lot of really soft ice cream in it, I'm honestly I do about a quarter of the time I make my own root beer floats. It should be noted that they have an interesting drive-thru system at the moment. You place your order at the order menu location of the drive thru where someone working inside takes your order. Then someone working outside will walk your order to your car while you wait in line (maybe because some orders take longer than others maybe) and that person will also collect your credit card, bring it back to the building to process payment, and then walk the credit card back to you. They do not offer a receipt. It's just a little bit of a wonky system compared to most fast food joints. But hey, if it works for them it works. Came here because we were told that this was Austin's version of In N Out. I didn't think much of it. Coming from California, any burger place invites comparisons to In N Out, and for good reason. In N Out checks many boxes: it's fast food that feels fresh, it's inexpensive, it's consistently good. It's popularity (and maybe even the hype) is well-earned. That being said, I think P Terry's is just as good, if not better. This is borderline blasphemy for a Californian to admit. I had the double cheeseburger to give an apt comparison to In N Out, and it hit all the same notes: ingredients tasted fresh, it wasn't super greasy, all around just a good cheeseburger. Now, where it wins is that the fries are better (One of In N Out's weak points) and somehow the price point is even lower than an already inexpensive In N Out. Admittedly, the burger comparisons are ultimately a little silly. In the end, we're just talking about a fast food meal, but I hope that this at least helps give you a reference point. Personally, I'm back in California surrounded by In N Outs and I find myself wanting a P Terry's burger. Lucky for the ATX, they get both. Try it out! read more
