Disappointing Service and Unacceptable Treatment!
I regret to say that my recent experience at this restaurant was deeply disappointing, and I feel compelled to warn others. As a resident of Le Marais, I have visited this place before and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. However, the most recent visit was marred by unprofessional, sexist, and xenophobic service that left a sour taste, despite the good food.
Upon arrival, my companion (a French speaker) and I were offered a poorly positioned table. I was made to sit in a way that inconvenienced other guests, and when I moved to the other side of the table, the server--who was a young woman working for the summer--approached me in a commanding manner, telling to change seats. Interestingly, she addressed my companion, even though I was the one who had moved, which I found to be rather sexist. Despite the uncomfortable situation, I complied, inconveniencing other guests in the process. (To add, we were served wine of a lower quality instead of what we ordered).
Things only worsened after my companion made a light-hearted joke about the seating arrangement. The server reacted sharply, disappearing into the back after labeling the comment as "rude." Moments later, another young server approached my companion, repeating the same accusation. This was followed by the chef (the most senior staff member) who also scolded my companion for rudeness -- all this despite NOT having witnessed the original interaction!
My companion apologized, even though the situation had been blown out of proportion. We chose to stay, hoping the incident would pass. Our experience continued to deteriorate.
After finishing our meal, I wanted to speak with the manager, hoping we can normalize the situation. What followed was truly shocking: two servers immediately interrupted me, incorrectly assuming my companion was my husband -- a sexist and false assumption, and telling me that I could not understand the situation because I don't speak French -- a xenophobic remark. The manager, without hearing me out, rushed to my companion outside and, in front of all the other guests, instructed him to "restrain his hysterical wife." This level of disrespect and humiliation was beyond anything I could have imagined or tolerate, especially in a city like Paris!
It's truly unfortunate that a place with such potential was tainted by such appalling treatment. I would strongly advise potential patrons to consider other options in the area, as this kind of service is not only unprofessional, but also intolerable. read more
