Our first visit to Oxbow was nothing short of amazing! We tried the birria tacos, bang bang chicken, chicken sando, Brussels sprouts, and from the kids' menu, the mac n cheese and fish and chips. Every dish was a hit--perfectly al dente pasta, crispy and flavorful Brussels sprouts, and fried chicken cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding, and the restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting. Even the kids' menu impressed us with its quality. The view of mount Rainier is spectacular at this location. Very good for occasions and celebrations. Food was very average at this urban kitchen. Ordered 8 oz ribeye steak at medium but came out medium well. The seabass that we ordered was very fishy and still undercooked in the very middle -- just a tiny spot maybe a quarter inch wide. This is a must try spot in Sumner! We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and 10oz Steak. You have to get the steak with a truffle mashed potatoes! The miso sea bass is not over powering with miso and was flaky to touch. The steak was cooked well, but the highlight was the truffle mashed potatoes. Preston was our server and everything he recommended was spot on! This place we stumbled upon, but would be a great place to just hang out during the summer on their deck. This is a must try! So disappointing to go to happy hour with 6 friends and have no where to sit even though all tables were empty except 2 in the whole dining area on a Tuesday. All seating in the bar is set up for singles or doubles. The couples sitting there,do what everyone does, sit with one or two chairs In between each other so no groups of 3 or more can sit anywhere for happy hour!. So many great things to say about this place, so let's dive in! First, for those who live in the Southside, we know a great restaurant that serves higher end meals, is hard to come by. They accommodated us on a Sunday afternoon with no problem. We sat by the window and had a great view of the river. Our server (Preston) was so good! He handled us like a pro. Our food came out quickly too. We ordered essentially everything off the menu or so it seemed. I want to especially point out the Brussels sprouts. WOW! I always order them whenever on a menu and I have to say I think these are the best I've ever had! They are literally that good. Good food and dining experience tends to be hit or miss or older, same old, same old stuff around here so I was excited to try a newer restaurant! Great service from start to finish, very friendly and attentive. The space is beautiful! I'd love to come back when it's warmer to sit on their patio. Came in for brunch yesterday, and there were so many good menus items to choose from we'll have to come back so we can try them all! I got the Neptune salad, it had huge prawns and big beautiful Dungeness crab segments as well as a lovely soft boiled egg and other veggies, just what I expected. Husband order the (gigantic!) Pork Royale sandwich with pork sausage, pork belly and a perfectly cooked egg. I've worked in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years and I can tell you, eggs like that are tricky, but these were perfection! Our son couldn't decide so we got him the mac and cheese as well as the chicken tenders on the menu, they were both obviously hand made and not from a box or the freezer like some kid menu items. We noticed that no one ordered anything sweet, so the server suggested we start with a "Side" Belgian waffle! (who knew that was a thing?!) I loved it, berry compote and fresh whipped cream piled high, it was perfect for everyone to have a couple bites and we all satisfied our breakfast sweet tooth. Coffee was fantastic, (refills fast and numerous) and we also tried one of their breakfast cocktails to share, the Burning Orchard. it was well balanced and it went beautifully with not just his sandwich and my salad but the Belgian waffle too! Yum! Yum! Yum! I took my mother to Oxbow for brunch after it was recommended by a friend. She did not steer us wrong. I got the Wagyu Corn Beef Hash which was incredible. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The Oxbow Old Fashion was excellent and definitely one of the best I have had in a long time. We were seated right away, and our waitress was very attentive. Even the manger checked in on us. Wow! It's a cool and hip restaurant with outdoor seating on the water. Don't waste your money. So disappointed. Over priced drinks and food. Our steak was served rare and cool when ordered medium . The salad was advertised to have an anchovy dressing and there was not a hint of it to be found. Just an overly wet lemon forward dressing with basic croutons on top. You will get better food and service and value on the waterfront in Tacoma. 2 drinks ($20 martini $15 mixed drink), 1 entree and 1 soup = $100. read more

The loss of stars comes from the bartender. Drink times 15 min for the first round, and the second round didn't come until we were almost done eating. It took a few minutes to be greeted and seated but after being seated our server was very attentive moving forward and throughout our meal. For drinks, we got the pomegranate cosmo and my boyfriend got the Sumner. I loved the pomegranate cosmo, it was sweet with refreshing. Definitely recommend if you like sweet mixed drinks! My boyfriend liked his drink, it wasn't sweet but you have a balance between the gin and champagne. Next, the BLT Buns! It's was delicious and I loved the tomato jam! Next, he got the chef's special which was black pepper steak medallions! The sauce was delicious and the mashed potatoes were delicious as well. I did get the Ribeye which was seasoned well and tasted great. My only recommendation is get mashed potatoes instead of fries. I didn't enjoy my fries. As one the newest spot in sumner I had to try it as it's in my backyard. I made a reservation as it does tend to get crowded and very busy. We went for dinner and sat on the patio. It's a very cute place right off the downtown river. Food was good, drinks were great. But the bees were out in full force. Which made the experience not the most enjoyable. Grand opening 2. 4 months later 3. 3 months ago My general opinion is that you have a restaurant with a beautiful location that hasn't a clue on how create premium cuisine. With wine marked up at an excessive rate (John Howie Steak, Daniel's, Ascend, etc. don't mark their wines up at the % Oxbow does), inexperienced bartenders, and extremely inconsistent staff, food that is either over salted or simply all over the place taste-wise, it's somewhat of a miracle they are getting the reviews you see. In addition, let's talk about the sound quality - with no sound dampeners, the inside is extremely loud. Talking to someone right across from you can pose as a challenge if the establishment is 80-100% full. Fix this and that would be a start. Someone else commented about Seattle prices in Sumner -- yes, I would agree the prices are way too high for the sold product. Price isn't a big deal when the product is actually of high quality. It's surprising to me that Oxbow could be missing so many marks when their sister restaurant, Toscano's is so good. After given this place three chances, all strikes, I won't go back nor would I recommend this place. Toscano's on the other hand--definitely check that place out. read more

First time here. We got the clam chowder, roasted chicken and shrimp and grits. The chicken was way over cooked and over salted. Literally zero moisture in the chicken. The shrimp was undercooked and covered in a salsa. The clam chowder was delicious so good job on that. Unfortunately we didn't even eat our two entrées and didn't take them when we left. The server was great. Food, not good at all. We sat outside which was nice because it's shaded during dinner. We had a lovely dinner last night. I'd like to give points for serving ice wine, which I love but it's often available. The Korean wings and salted caramel sundae were superb. Our main courses were ok; my husband had the carne asada taco board which tasted fine but wasn't cut correctly. I chose the fish and chips which would have been great but I dislike rosemary and it was in the batter. We chose to dine upstairs and it was quiet and lovely, downstairs was very loud. He's weird about well-done and I've never heard him (ever) say something was too well-done. He said the burger was super well-done to the point there were some hard, crunchy areas. He said it was still good, but it was verrrry well done. I had the Spicy Chicken Sando. It was also very good. Great big piece of juicy chicken, slaw was nice - not mayonnaise-y, and the aioli was great. It was not spicy! Not kind of spicy. Not a little spicy. Not it eventually builds spicy. Just. not. spicy. Menu says 'sweet-heat glaze'. Absolutely no heat whatsoever of any kind. Still a good sandwich. There's a delightful new restaurant in Sumner perched along the White River just a stone's throw from the Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse. Oxbow Urban Kitchen is an upscale affair in a brand-new building featuring a large open deck above the river. The food menu is unique while the drink menu is expansive. Oregon venison anyone? My pork chop with wild rice was delicious as were my companion's flank steak and halibut. Our server, Kurt was great, steering us toward superior dishes and drinks. The restaurant is an inspired partnership between Puyallup restaurant pioneer, Jim Anton and his son, Alex. Many will remember Anton's Restaurant which for over 40 years starting in 1963, and also had a Puyallup Fair concession called Anton's Farmhouse. Those ventures were owned by Jim and his late brother, Anton. If our meals last night were any indication of things to come, the Anton family will be nourishing discriminating diners for a long time to come. read more

Very disappointed in Oxbow's. We live in the area so wanted to give it a try. It was our anniversary so we decided to go here as a treat. We ordered a dozen of oysters as an appetizer which were decent but we only received 11. They did bring 1 more out but how do you miscount 12 oysters? For dinner my wife ordered the pork chop based on the servers recommendation. I ordered the planked halibut. The pork chop came with polenta or grtis, figs, and then broccolini. We didn't really care for it as the seasoning had a strong sage or thyme flavor. The halibut was okay, even though it said planked it came out in a bowl with fingerling potatoes and carrots. Both were underwhelming for the price. A $15 bottle of wine in the store was $48. When we received our $187 check I noticed that there was a 4% service fee added to the tab. I asked what that was for and the server mentioned that it was to help pay their medical insurance. To me this is just wrong, either increase your already high prices to hide the service fee or suck it up. I will not frequent places that charge a service fee. Out the door with a tip we were at $210. Not worth it at all and will not be going back. I think once the new vibe is over this place will be in trouble. The server was nice so no complaints from that standpoint. read more
